Whenever I'm in Portland, it's become a tradition to go to a jazz show at the 1905! I haven't seen a bad show here! I wish dinner and live music was more common than it is, but that's what makes this place a gem! There are always great artists to choose from throughout the week! Eating here supports the local artists doing what they are good at, playing music and performing it for people to enjoy! My friend and I both ordered the pastas! I didn't love the red sauce pasta as much as my friends white sauce pasta. We also ordered drinks, a paper plane and a margarita which wasn't on the menu, but our bartender was able to make them. The show we saw was spectacular and with the restaurant being small inside, it makes the shows quite intimate. Our servers were cool, trendy and nice! They advise that you don't talk during the show to be respectful of the artists and those enjoying the show. Since there are usually 2 show times, you are kind of rushed out so they can reset the room for the next show. Overall, a great spot to support local musicians. The food wasn't the greatest but I do enjoy coming for the shows.

Now THIS is a proper jazz club! The focus her is the music, first and foremost. It is SO refreshing to go see a show, and actually be able to hear the music without the distraction and annoyance of patrons shouting above the music to themselves. The 1905 is TINY inside, and has a large outside dining area. Inside tables are reserved seating with tickets sold in advance. This is great because it takes the pressure off of arriving early for a good seat. Be aware, though, that only certain tables are made available for parties of one. The PA system is outstanding! VERY clear sound, very appropriate volume levels, and excellently skilled sound personnel. Late show menu options are basically limited to pizza, which was a lot better than expected. Service is warm and friendly (almost "over the top" friendly). Parking is a challenge, but it's definitely worth it to see a show here.

We went last night for the Mel Brown band and it did not disappoint!!! It was our first time there and we enjoyed every second. The venue is very intimate, especially if you sit in front of the stage like we did. We preferred to be that up close! The Italian food was surprisingly delicious as well. They had a hot mulled NA apple cider that was divine as well. The customer service was warm and inviting. We'll definitely be back.

During my recent excursion to Portland, Oregon I made online reservations for a Jazz venue by the name of 1905 based on reviews, and a Google search for live Jazz performances in the Portland area. A quick view of the establishment's website and checking out their schedule for the weekend of my travel, I hopped over to YouTube to preview the scheduled talent for a taste of their skills and the quality of their Jazz. The Ben Fowler Quintet on Saturday night was selected, and I was confident that the music would be enjoyable. 1905 is located at 830 Shaver Street, and to my surprise the venue is a quaint Jazz spot, with a garden area nestled in a suburban residential area, just around the corner from local popular entertainment area on Mississippi Street. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly hostess that explained the previous performance had just ended and they would take about 20 minutes to prepare for the next show. As we waited we were given a place to sit and refreshing water to combat the summer heat. Once inside and seated at our table the waitress introduced herself, presented menus, and took our drink order; one Old Fashion and a Manhattan. In addition, we selected the Caesar Salad for a little something to enjoy during the performance. The seats were at a table in the second row, which was like four feet from the stage for a very close-up and personal reviewing experience. From the very first note of the performance I was in total awe! Every one of the musicians was a very accomplished artist and musician and their combined contributions created an evening of Contemporary Modern Jazz that overwhelmed me to say the least. Ben is a huge fan of saxaphonist Kenny Garrett, and chose to play a few of his well acclaimed creations during the presentation. The quintet was composed of saxophone, piano, up-right & electric bass, guitar, and drums. A great show! Totally, over-the-top and delightfully in all regards! I am more than willing to fly to Portland frequently for the genre of music that I crave. Want to thank 1905 for hosting the event, and being a great host! The beverages were great; the food was delicious; the staff were very professional, and customer service oriented; the venue was comfortable; great acoustics; and the atmosphere was VERY warm and delightful. Great place to dine, and have drinks with that special someone!

This place is dope! A very very intimate jazz spot where you can literally reach out and touch the performers. You feel like you're in the performance with them! I mean it was truly magical. The band for the evening was very talented and I enjoyed every minute a this spot. The food wasn't the best though. I ordered the mac n cheese and it had a funny taste to it. Kind of like the cheese was burnt and it just tasted off and not like mac n cheese. I also ordered the garlic bread and it was just okay, also needed more flavor. My bestie ordered the mac as well and she didn't like it either. I loved the venue and what they do, but I would say they may need to look into their menu items. Otherwise, I definitely recommend this spot. Parking was difficult in this area but we eventually found something nearby.

Wow! What a fabulous jazz venue! The Mel Brown B3 Organ Group is not to be missed. Simply as good as it gets when it comes to masters of jazz. The service was excellent. The wine and food delicious. We can't wait to go again

I decided to finally try this place after seeing it pop up on my socials for a few weeks and I was delighted by it. Food: 8/10 overall 1. Pepperoni pizza: 8/10-the pizza came out piping hot which I absolutely love!! Pepperoni pizzas can be quite greasy but I didn't find this one to be too greasy. I loved that it had plenty of cheese, meat and not too much sauce. It was just thin enough to not be a thin crust pizza. 2. Caesar salad: 8/10- not much to say other than it was a good salad, adequate dressing to greens ratio and nice thick slicks of cheese 3. Old fashion: 8/10- nice and stiff Venue: I came here to check out Dave Meder Trio and it was delightful performance to watch. The venue is quite small so you are pretty close to your table mates but I love the intimacy of the place. I will note that at first I thought the service was extremely slow and nonexistent but I realized everything is ordered electronically and then brought to you, once I figured that out it was smooth sailing. Overall great venue to grab a drink and catch a nice concert. I will be returning.

Great little jazz venue! This was my first time here. Be prepared to cozy up to people inside as the seating is very tight. We just had cocktails and they were good. The server now comes to your table for all orders.

    Smoking/vaping on the patio?

We allow smoking on the patio after 11:00pm (the same hour we turn 21+). Cannabis use is not permitted.

Can patrons sing jazz with the band?

I think it would depend on the band. Not appropriate the night we were there.

    Is this place dog friendly?

Outside in the summer time I've spotted Spot a few times. I've never seen a puppy indoors though.

When we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome by bringing my guest a drink on the house for their retirement celebration. I knew the menu but tried some new things! We shared everything. My favorite item I have to order each time is the Tuna Tartar. Its favors are rich but delicate. The presentation is perfect and my guest was impressed. I got the dumplings for her but if I had to skip something I'd do those. They were good but compared to all the other items we had, they were lacking. The only thing not pictured is our wagu braised with sweet potato. That was phenomenal. It pulled apart and melted in your mouth with every bite. We ended with two very different deserts, the strawberry mochi and whipped crem brûlée type desert. Both were tasty. Price range for all plus three alcoholic drinks was $165 not including tip. We were full and happy. Great service as always and it was full, busy house tonight inside the place. I wouldn't change anything other than trying some new things next time to add!

My favorite items of the visit were the sake selection, the whole fried snapper (best bite - amazing), the tuna tartare with furikake chips and caviar, and the super tender beef cheek. The mushroom small plate was also pretty good! I didn't like as much the milk buns, they were just ok and I only liked 1 (rooftop grown chive) of the 3 butter shmears it came with. Wasn't woth $6 per bun. While it was a quality cut of meat, the Snake River Wagyu steak dish needed salt and the sauce below it wasn't as flavorful. Perhaps needed cracked black peppercorn, or something to punch up that flavor. I wasn't as impressed with the octopus salad either. Very scant thin tiny octopus slices on top salad greens with lots of sliced raw bell peppers. You'd think it should be called a bell pepper salad with the amount it had in it, instead of the hard-to-find octopus! I couldn't detect a flavor note of the dressing either. Other dishes we tried were lobster bao buns and the seared scallop on jalepeno grits... they were ok but lacked a little flavor. I could not taste the jalepeno on the scallop dish, and the lobster slices were fairly scant and not very succulent. We split the strawberry mochi cake for dessert and it was fun that they added Pop Rocks on top, but the mochi was too tough and dense. A chiffon cake or something light would've been a nicer alternative to end a rich dinner. Service was excellent, and each person who spoke to us or delivered a dish was beautiful & friendly. Be prepared to share dishes when you come here, about 2/3 per person. Prices are on the higher side but I think it matches with the sophisticated ambiance and quality of food. Lots of free parking in the Cascadia parking lot just outside. Will likely come again down the road, for a date night.

To speak about Teardrop Lounge, I should probably start with this:…read more Ladies and gentlemen, I present my favorite cocktail bar. Not the best -- I'm not arrogant enough to claim that. I haven't been to every cocktail bar in Portland, and saying something is the best usually says more about your lack of experience than your conviction. But favorite? That I can stand behind. And I want to get that out of the way early, because of the amount of praise I'm about to pour on this place -- fully earned, completely intentional. The biggest crime here is that I only discovered it two weeks ago, after living in Portland for a year. It had been recommended to me countless times, and I ignored it. A mistake. A painful one. But now that I've found it, I don't plan on making that mistake again. I'm not typically an Old Fashioned drinker. In fact, I usually hate them. But somewhere between curiosity and too many episodes of Mad Men, I decided to try one anyway -- fully expecting to confirm my bias. Instead, it completely flipped me. Bright, almost citrus-forward in a way that felt unusual but entirely intentional. Balanced, smooth, just enough burn to remind you what you're drinking without overwhelming it. It was the first time I actually understood the appeal. I'm pretty sure I grew a few chest hairs that night. That alone would've been impressive. But it didn't stop there. The space is beautiful -- clean, intentional, but not cold. The staff are excellent: personable, engaged, and most importantly, authentic. Not scripted, not performative. The kind of people you actually want to talk to, and hopefully, eventually be on a first-name basis with. Now, all of that gets it close to a perfect score. But what pushes it over the edge -- what makes this place stick -- is the White Russian. One of the first drinks I ever had. My dad's drink. Not because of The Big Lebowski -- that came later -- but because it's just always been his thing. And at some point, it became mine too. Typically, when bars try to "elevate" a White Russian, they ruin it. They overthink it. Swap ingredients, tweak ratios, add unnecessary flair. And more often than not, it ends in disappointment. Teardrop does the opposite. They respect it -- but refine it. The coffee liqueur actually tastes like coffee. The heavy cream is properly integrated, not just dumped on top. The vodka -- whatever they're using -- is clean, present, and perfectly measured. There's a subtle complexity to it without losing what makes the drink what it is. It's the best White Russian I've ever had. No hesitation. I've gone back twice just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't. If someone asked me what my death row drink would be -- this specific cocktail, from this specific bar, is in the conversation. Easily. Teardrop Lounge doesn't just make great cocktails. It reminds you why cocktails matter in the first place. And that's why it's my favorite.

One of the best parts was how approachable the bartenders were. We asked for custom drinks based on our preferences, and both came out perfectly tailored. Creative without being weird, and strong without being sloppy. What really stood out was the price point. For the quality of cocktails, the prices felt very reasonable compared to similar craft cocktail bars in other cities. The vibe was also great -- relaxed, cozy, and not pretentious. It felt like a place where you could come for a special drink experience without feeling like you had to "perform" or order off a rigid menu. We liked it so much we actually came back a second time during our trip. Highly recommend if you're into well-crafted cocktails, friendly bartenders, and a laid-back but elevated atmosphere.
