I never usually get emotionally reactive to a restaurant experience, and I have never stepped foot into the Acropolis Grill before today. I'm from Atlanta, and I have had it recommended multiple times by family who are from here. I FELT fantastic when I left this place. When I say that this is a family restaurant, it is, in every sense of the word. The place was filled with large parties, and the atmosphere was lively and happy! It was not until the end of my meal that I learned of the history of this establishment. That's when I realized who Ms. Betty was. The late Chef and owner Teddy Kyriakidis's lovely wife. She could be seen buzzing all around the restaurant, keeping an eye on things! What an amazing experience they have created! We started with drinks. I am a huge whiskey fan, and this place has one of the BEST bourbon lists I have seen anywhere. (they have Pappy!) I had a perfect classic Old Fashioned made with Chattanooga Whiskey. We ordered an appetizer which included both whipped feta and hummus. I have never had whipped feta like this before, and it was AMAZING! Must try! Next my wife ordered the Gyro platter, my sister in law, an excellent grouper with a Thai chili sauce served with rice and green beans, and I had the Greek sampler that included gyro meat, stuffed grape leaves, moussaka, and pastitsio. All came with a wonderful Greek salad. The dressing is legendary and is sold in bottles up front. Sorry no pics of the entrees. We CRUSHED those! Authentic, Perfectly executed, and incredibly flavorful! Luckily there were no picky eaters at our table, and we shared everything on our plates! We finished with three desserts. I had been staring at the Strawberry Cake through out our short wait and got that, of course! It did not disappoint! You could tell it was homemade and my understanding is that the desserts are made on site. We also had a coconut cream pie and a chocolate dipped cannoli. The latter two were quickly dispatched, but there was no way I could eat all of that cake! It came home with me! I dine in restaurants all over the country, and I've got to say that our server, Daley is one of the best servers I have ever had, hands down. Yes the food here was fantastic but it was Daley's service that set our experience apart. She was so engaging, attentive, and had the best energy about her. Really the best attitude in an industry that unfortunately is chewing up and spitting out some really fine people! She is a keeper, and truly seems to love her job! Highly recommend asking for Daley because she made our experience wonderful. If you want to see how restaurants in their hay days were run and want to have as close to a perfect (in my opinion) dining experience that is possible, try this place. Ask for Daley, GET HERE for the whipped feta and hummus, and any of their desserts, and enjoy! The prices are incredible!You won't be sorry. read more

Stopped by for lunch during a business trip. The restaurant is very nice, clean, accommodating. Staff was very friendly. The lemon soup was very good. It came as a side with my sandwich. I ordered the Gyro sandwich. The pita was fresh, but the meat had very little flavor. The tzatziki sauce on the side was no more than cucumber-flavored yogurt. The reviews that I saw were good, which led me to visit. Sorry, but I was expecting a little more. read more

The menu here is interesting. It's like... greek-ish. Also, italian-ish. I had eggplant napoleon, and it was alright. The eggplant is pretty heavily breaded and fried, which made it a greasier dish than I was looking for. With the spinach and everything on it, it got soggy quite quickly and that really made it unpalatable for me. Service here started out really great but our waitress was quickly distracted by other tables and repeatedly forgot to bring us things like bread and refills. The dessert here is fairly amazing, all things considered. They seem to be made in house and the cheesecake I had was delicious. read more

The Acropolis is very special. I have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years and have never been disappointed. They are more of a Mediterranean restaurant than Greek-they do serve a few, excellent, Italian dishes. It's owned by a wonderful Greek family and though the older gentleman has passed away, his wife does a wonderful job of making sure every guest has an excellent meal and an enjoyable experience. Regardless of what you select for an entree, you have to try the Saganaki. Its a delicious, broiled Kasari cheese, flambéed tableside. It's delicious on their wonderful bread. Of course, they made an incredible gyro! The used to serve roasted lamb but now it is sometimes offered as a special. In liu of roast lamb, they do have excellent rack of lamb. I did try their lamb lollipops, as a special, and they were incredible. Did I mention that they have a bakery and make all deserts in-house? If you love Greek food, you have to eat here. My wife and I sometimes drive the 75 miles from Knoxville to Chattanooga, just to eat here! read more

My son's soccer team had a few games in Chattanooga. The Acropolis Grill was so welcoming when I called for reservations. When we arrived, they were all ready for such a large group. The entire wait staff were friendly and attentive. Everyone loved the food-so fresh and tasty. We also loved the fresh bread and butter! Best authentic Greek food! Wow wow & wow!!! Very friendly service and truly great food. The Avoglemono (lemon, chicken & orzo) was wonderful. I had the mixed grill and my meat was cooked absolutely perfect. Just as I ordered. The shrimp & scallops were also prepared perfectly. Delicious roasted asparagus and sautéed zucchini & squash. For desert I had the most amazing chocolate peanut butter silk pie. Somewhere between poor and meh. Just to get it over with, the menu is cluttered with strange things for a Greek grill. Lasagne? Fish and Chips? Bread was very sweet, almost like a breakfast bread and served with a sweet cinnamon butter. Very out of place. The avgolemono was too much like cream of chicken soup with a splash of lemon juice. It lacked the richness and tangy bite of a true Greek lemon soup. Spanakopita was surprisingly good, loads of fresh spinach and chunks of feta. Flakey delicate philo. Excellent. Fishermans platter was heavy, overly breaded, frozen seafood with bland seasoning. Flavorless scallops, crab cake with more breadcrumbs than crab inside the inch-thick layer of fried batter. Tiramisu and PB Silk Pie were inedible, there's no other way around it. Greek coffee was the best thing of the night - dark and strong, served properly. read more

This restaurant has been here at least 20 years. They have never disappointed me. Anything I have ever ordered has been great. However their desserts are to die for. It is family owned and very friendly. We stopped by just for dessert. Their cakes are freshly made. I enjoy eating here whenever I am in town. If you want Greek food, you should probably just learn to make it at home.... Went because my boyfriend and I wanted Greek food and there aren't a lot of options in Chatt. The atmosphere is nice, I liked the indoor glass patio area. I ordered a Greek salad and a chicken pita, pretty typical Greek food! The salad 3 olives, had hardly anything else on it, the lettuce was brown. My pita was soggy and the chicken was dry. We also ordered the salmon cakes and they came on a bed of beans, corn and lettuce, which made it look like they were trying to fill the plate. None of the extra things were fresh, the beans were soggy. The cakes had a good flavor. Our server was kind but a little aloof and didn't seem to even see how uncomfortable we were. I was pretty unhappy with the experience. Just a general disappointment. I hardly ate anything. Haven't been back since and probably won't ever be back. read more

This is our mediterranean goto place . We love the baked potato and minestrone soup. The Lamb chops are a little undercooked and rubberry for our taste but the Lemon Chicken is delicious. We had lunch here on our wedding day almost 17 years ago and stopped in on our way through town today and it was so delicious! I had the Greek lemon soup with the Chicken Souvlaki sandwich and my husband had the Gyro Plate and it was all amazing! The atmosphere was bright and happy and so was the staff! The service was perfectly great, our waitress was kind and attentive, and the ambiance outside patio was surprisingly sweet for being in a parking lot. But holy moly, this was the worst Greek food I've ever had - in any city anywhere. The avgolemono soup was just wrong, totally incorrect. It's like you asked someone who had it once twenty years ago to recreate it from memory. The gyro was mediocre at best, which, like, how do you mess that up? Low quality pitas. My husband and I ventured into The Acropolis Grill craving some Mediterranean food and we were not disappointed! Ordered some lamb lollipops, Saganaki, chicken orzo soup, and a Greek salad with gyro and falafel at the bar and we enjoyed every bite. Our bartender, Tristan, welcomed us with a warm smile and was very attentive despite clearly being busy. Lovely dining experience in a lovely, quaint restaurant! Well, they changed happy hour just for me. Happy Hour is week days 3 pm to 7 pm now. Great excellent clean conditions as the place feels like every thing is new. You can get a PBR draught for only $2. The bar is really nice. I have never been here until today but I was impressed. I think I will come back for lunch one day. As their menu is impressive too. They have lunches starting at just $7. Lunch is served M-F from 11am to 4 pm. The best thing about this restaurant is that Hamilton Place mall is about a block away. This area is what I call "hotel city" and "restaurant city". Stores stores and more countless stores are in the area. read more

Service is ALWAYS top notch and fast and I have never had a bad meal here. Prices are really pretty good for the quality of food that they serve and they are very helpful discussing their menu related to allergies. They do their best to make/find something for everybody. And the pastries are fabulous!! I love the eggplant stacks and my friend loves the lamb lollipops. We eat here at least 1-3x a month. Ambience is nice and really is more like a more expensive place. I had to send my salmon meal back because the fish tasted horrible!!!! I asked for it to be well done and it was the total opposite. It taste like it was old but the waiter gladly took my food Back and gave me a menu then made sure I got my food quickly. They give you bread and cinnamon sugar butter. If you take anything away from this review, it's get the Saganaki. So much joy was felt simply by setting a block of cheese on fire. A friend and I went to the Acropolis Grill for dinner and started off with the Saganaki. It's was delightful, especially when spread on either the white or brown bread they bring to the table. My friend practically inhaled his chicken and rice soup. My Greek salad left much to be desired. In all honesty, I've had better Greek salads at Panera Bread. The lettuce was also wilted throughout. As for entree, my Spanikopita was delicious. Very flaky and tasted wonderfully fresh. My friend's lamb shank was very tender, but he was unhappy with the taste. We think the kitchen used too much cooking wine or even a beer. Overall, we were happy with the meal. As for service, I don't know if our server was going through a time and a half, but she didn't know much of anything. We asked her opinion on a specific dish on the menu and her response was a pause followed by "ehhhhhhh." That's not at all comforting. When asked what soups were available that day, she said the very delicious chicken and rice followed by "And something else, I didn't look in the pot." Neat. Thanks for that. Would I recommend the Acropolis Grill. Yes. But maybe ask around beforehand so you get an idea of what's good. read more
