We blinked and we had the app, salad, main course , then dessert. We Maybe waited less than 5 mins between each. Portion sizes was not a problem. I was stuffed when I left. I ordered the Greek sampler and I was in love with almost everything. I say almost cause the gyro meat was good but just ordinary. The rest was different and I would order each one separately. The grape leaves was mostly meat with is def different than usual where as they are usually all rice. I co worker order the lamb chops and had no regrets. I told him a dog would not even want those bones after he was done with them. The service was good but nothing out the ordinary. I had the heath bar dessert and was slightly disappointed but it could be a personal preference. The staff, restaurant and presentation was good, but if you are looking for authentic Greek, they miss the mark by an American margin. The spanikopita was anything but a pastry, rather, an over salted spinach mix in a pan layered with filo dough on top. We couldn't eat it. The pastitsio was tolerable but when using nutmeg, one should be cautious not to add too much and make the dish taste like the floor of a Christmas shop in December. Similarly, the moussaka was edible, but the eggplant wasn't prepped to prevent slimy-ness. The grape leaves were too meat chunky to meld the flavors and were also falling apart and the gyro meat was likely fresh sliced off the spit but not sautéed so it was rather rubbery. All together, I would rather dirty my kitchen making these dishes myself, but if you're unfamiliar with true Greek, I'm sure you would appreciate this Americanized version. read more

This is a place that I have loved for twenty years and some.... I graduated college in 1998 and left the area. Everytime we came back through we made it a point to eat here. Now my daughter goes to school I'm Chattanooga and I have passed down the love of Acropolis to her. Their salad is simply the best. The house dressing is divine, and while I have bought several bottles to bring home for myself and as gifts, it is always better there. A helpful tip though, if you are using at home, our into a wide mouth mason jar, shake and then take a small dressing ladle to dispense over salad. Do not pour from bottle as the herbs go back to the bottom and you only get oil not the delicious mix that is Acropolis dressing. I am a fan of their pasta dishes and have never gone wrong with one. However recently my daughter got fish and shrimp that she said the fish was good but the shrimp were not. However she said the spinach artichoke appetizer was outstanding. My mother who used to love this place for their manicotti and Chicken Verdi has had difficulty nfinding new favorite dishes and twice now leaned more to their Greek food which she didn't care for but that was not because of the restaurant, we've never had Greek food and it was just not something she cared for Their desserts are always huge and worthy of splitting with someone because they are indeed as good as they look. The staff is always very friendly here. That is a bonus when you can go somewhere for so many years and not be able to think of one bad experience with a poor server or attitude. I mean it's a brad new era it seems and no one wants to work. And on my last visit our waitress simply asked us to be patient due to staff shortage....that was a bonus, just knowing what was going on. To be treated kindly and like we matter by staff that seem to really want to be there makes the restaurant welcoming I can't wait for the next time I go to see my daughter and can take her here again for a nice meal and some quality time. read more

Worst service I've ever received at this restaurant. Me and my dad come by all the time on Sundays and typically love the service and food but today we were not so lucky. Our server Paula seemed like she could not get rid of us fast enough. We never got refills. Our food came out and she never came to check how everything was. Her entire demeanor was horrible our entire visit. The hosts at the front were amazing and seemed to work very well together considering the busy flow that I noticed. This is such a great little local spot in the middle of every chain America has to offer. I absolutely love the soups, lentil being my fave. Also the desserts are next level - so many to pick from and so many to share with friends at the end of a great meal. I love the cookies personally and take some to go after I eat. I ordered online for takeout, it was an easy process and they even had pictures posted for some items. I got the gyro with a greek side salad and the Finika cookie and Baklava cookie. The side salad was lettuce with 2 tomatoes, 2 olives and a few cubes of feta cheese. While the cheese was good, this was pretty disappointing. I was just expecting a little more for paying an additional $3.50 to add it as a side, the dressing was ok. I will pick a different side next time. The gyro made up for it though, wow was it amazing! So full of meat, the cucumber salad on top was great and the tzaiki sauce was so good. Possibly one of the best gyros I've ever had. First let me say we had our two big 150lf Labradors in tow as we had no one to leave them with on this trip. So we called to see if they were dog friendly, as in most places in Tennessee they said they were ok with that as long as we could eat outside on their outside porch, which we did. When we arrived it was in the 40's at night. They were very accommodating. They lit some outdoor heaters and moved them near us and made the outside area slightly romantic with the big flame heaters going and the lighting. Next thing we knew several more people were joining us. All food was delicious. My wife had the pot roast, and I had the Chicken Parm. The waitstaff was excellent and very attentive. We stopped by this place for a quick lunch. We were not disappointed. They followed good Covid practices. We started to eat outside but chose inside since it was a tad windy. We all had the gyros pita lunch. I had the chicken rice soup. Everything was good and tasted fresh. Thier Taziki sauce is homemade and slightly chucky. The flavor was really good. Hadn't ever been to this location under this name, but I remembered the same family used to have Little Athens. On a one day trip from out of town, we decided to swing by for dinner. Perhaps my expectations were high and my glasses rose-colored, because I was underwhelmed. It was good, but not fantastic. We started with the savory pies which were good even if the filo was a little overpowering (in volume) to the light and mild filling in the cheese and spinach pies. The Greek salad had way too much dressing, making the greens soft and drippy. The Greek Combo Platter was a given. Every component was good, but honestly lacked in much flavor beyond mild. I was looking for a pastitsio to rival what is found at our local Greek festival, but it was no match. The bechamel on top was the best of layers which didn't quite seem to marry as expected. Moussaka was pleasant and mild in flavor. Stuffed grape leaves were a little more dense with meat than rice but were still good. The Greek Lemon Chicken was highly recommended. It was tender and well cooked, but short of the show stopper it was said to be. We did also take a tray of baklava for later. Haven't tried it yet, but it looks very good and will be savoring it later. I do regret not having the saganaki as the table next to us did. I was SO excited to try this place after seeing all the fantastic reviews. First off with the name of the restaurant you go in expecting greek/Mediterranean but what you get just seems like confusion. Some Italian dishes, some Greek dishes, shrimp and grits with andoullie sausage... it's like the menu doesn't know what it is supposed to be. I ordered the gyro dinner and opted for the garden side salad. When the waiter didn't ask what dressing I preferred I was assuming they just had like a Mediterranean house dressing. However, when the salad was brought out it had ranch with it. The waiter sat it down and THEN said he could get a different dressing if I wanted something else... l mean odd that the question wasn't asked on the front end, but I ate the ranch. The gyro dinner that came out was alright, not what I expected from a full service restaurant. I've had better from fast food style Greek restaurant in my hometown. There was also bread brought to the table with cinnamon butter. Very texas roadhouse-esq. At a meditteranean spot I would usually expect some oil based dip. Either way the bread was undercooked so it didn't even look appetizing. I never usually get emotionally reactive to a restaurant experience, and I have never stepped foot into the Acropolis Grill before today. I'm from Atlanta, and I have had it recommended multiple times by family who are from here. I FELT fantastic when I left this place. When I say that this is a family restaurant, it is, in every sense of the word. The place was filled with large parties, and the atmosphere was lively and happy! It was not until the end of my meal that I learned of the history of this establishment. That's when I realized who Ms. Betty was. The late Chef and owner Teddy Kyriakidis's lovely wife. She could be seen buzzing all around the restaurant, keeping an eye on things! What an amazing experience they have created! We started with drinks. I am a huge whiskey fan, and this place has one of the BEST bourbon lists I have seen anywhere. (they have Pappy!) I had a perfect classic Old Fashioned made with Chattanooga Whiskey. We ordered an appetizer which included both whipped feta and hummus. I have never had whipped feta like this before, and it was AMAZING! Must try! Next my wife ordered the Gyro platter, my sister in law, an excellent grouper with a Thai chili sauce served with rice and green beans, and I had the Greek sampler that included gyro meat, stuffed grape leaves, moussaka, and pastitsio. All came with a wonderful Greek salad. The dressing is legendary and is sold in bottles up front. Sorry no pics of the entrees. We CRUSHED those! Authentic, Perfectly executed, and incredibly flavorful! Luckily there were no picky eaters at our table, and we shared everything on our plates! We finished with three desserts. I had been staring at the Strawberry Cake through out our short wait and got that, of course! It did not disappoint! You could tell it was homemade and my understanding is that the desserts are made on site. We also had a coconut cream pie and a chocolate dipped cannoli. The latter two were quickly dispatched, but there was no way I could eat all of that cake! It came home with me! I dine in restaurants all over the country, and I've got to say that our server, Daley is one of the best servers I have ever had, hands down. Yes the food here was fantastic but it was Daley's service that set our experience apart. She was so engaging, attentive, and had the best energy about her. Really the best attitude in an industry that unfortunately is chewing up and spitting out some really fine people! She is a keeper, and truly seems to love her job!
