Let me start this by saying that I used to work here for a few months, and it's definitely the worst place I've ever worked at. I was a server and I was great at my job, but at some point, the boss hired a dishwasher who was nice at first, but one day, for literally no reason, he threatened to harm me physically and was homophobic towards me. Despite me being mature and talking to the boss directly about that incident, all that happened was a dumb meeting and him not being fired. Later, in another shift, I was in the kitchen and he called me a "stupid homo", while there were other servers around who witnessed this. One server, bless her heart, stood up for me, but ended up getting sent home because the boss "didn't want drama" and we had another useless meeting. Despite these meetings, I still had to bend over backwards to try to do my job while also trying to avoid getting harassed by a coworker. I felt unsafe and terrible every time I worked and that's why I quit the way I did. Afterwards, the boss told me she knew that I was in the right, but yet, why did she not fire him immediately? I came here about a quarter of 11am with intentions on getting some breakfast specials that I know every diner runs till 11am. As soon as I get seated the menus are already in the table, I reach to take a peak and the waitress is trying to swap them out for lunch. I told her no thanks we are here for breakfast specials and ready to order. She takes our order and the breakfast comes out lightning fast. I ask for Tabasco and she disappeared. The potatoes and sausage if that's what you call that were disgusting and the cheapest I've ever encountered. I get the check only to realize that the waitress charged me full price. Bottom line... keep an eye on your check, I'd like to believe that it was an accident but I seriously doubt it... This diner used to be a really great place to eat, now it has become the biggest disappointment to hit the streets since the Fiat. The food is hit or miss - mostly miss. In my most recent visits, the home fries were as crunchy as potato chips, the bacon cheeseburger my daughter ordered was served minus the bacon, and the food is generally over salted. The servers, no offense, look like they have walked the tracks. If the food isn't enough to turn your stomach, having it served by waitstaff who look like they just left a detox center, will do the trick. When you see this quaint little 50's style Diner...keep driving. I was drawn in by the classic decor, at first planning to order a cheeseburger and fries to go with my chocolate shake, but when the shake came in a small plastic glass, the kind most restaurants use for their water cup, I realized this would not be the authentic experience I had been expecting. I noticed that the dinner specials all touted a soup and salad bar. Attempting to roll with what appeared to be the diner's strengths, I ordered this along with the prime rib and mashed potatoes. The soup, new england clam chowder, was a shade of brown and tasted about as good as it looked. The salad, of which there wasn't any until I brought this to the waitress' attention, was very basic, offering only a few options to add on to the starting mix besides dressing. The mix included a few shredded carrots and red cabbage, but no way to add more. The prime rib, which I ordered medium, was well done and bland. The mashed potatoes, powdered of course, tasted bad even by powder standards. Now I don't cook; I just don't know how. So when I say that I could have done a better job, I want you to understand the gravity of that statement. The diner did appear clean and sanitary, which is the only reason why it gets two stars instead of one. Now to be fair, I haven't tried their breakfast, which other reviews seem to praise, but a 24-hour diner needs to be able to make dinner too. Making sure the food is not overcooked is a bare minimum. More to the point, they need to be able to deliver on the retro experience their decor promises. Something as simple as playing 50's music, or serving shakes in a tall glass (made of glass) can go a long way. read more

I haven't been here in about 2 yrs, because the last time ants, Flys and roaches called this place home. So during arts in the streets festival I thought I'd give it another chance. Was I wrong! I should have kept walking. My girlfriend ordered western omelet, home fries, bacon...me Louisiana panini, and our son over medium eggs hash browns and bacon. None of us came near finishing our food. The flavor or should I say lack there of, was enough to push the plates away. I grew up in West Reading and I used to love the dinner. The only reason this gets 2 stars is that the food is still good. The service how ever was awful. My girlfriend and I went around 11pm. Our waitress seemed very rushed and jumpy. Our plates hadn't been on the table a full 30 seconds and our server brought us our check. Great authentic Pennsylvania diner. I love that 50's look. However, it was nice to see that the interior was period looking but clean and up to date. Staff were warm and friendly and were attentive. Food was typical diner fare with the addition of some great belly busting specials including steak and eggs. I opted for a more local choice of egg sandwich with pork roll and a side of Scrapple. My friends and I decided to stop by this diner... not our best choice. We ordered pancakes, waffles and French toast all with fruit, turned out to be preserved fruit aka diabetes on a plate (no offense to people with diabetes). My friend ordered just strawberry and they put blueberries on it as well. She was very disappointed. My other friend ordered what was supposed to be a melted ham and cheese on a croissant, instead he got cold government cheese and ham!! It's a diner. Standard items on the menu. Son had a burger and fries Husband had the panini Ruben and onion rings - he loved it - I had eggs, sausage and home fries - it was good. The place was pretty busy at 12:30pm and we were seated I believe before anyone could properly clean the table. The seats had sticky syrup and there was food on the floor underneath the table. Yuck. To be frankly honest, I've never been disappointed coming to this diner. Its clean, the servers are friendly and their coffee is better than the mud you get at other diners. I was there last weekend and got the Belgian waffles. They were hot, fluffy and had a vanilla-y taste. Served with three containers of syrup and a cup of butter. Perfect! I've eaten here many a time over the last years of living in the area. The thing about diners (at least this diner) is...order diner food! Breakfast is awesome (all day) - burgers are great. I wouldn't go here expecting a unique experience (service or food) but they are consistent. Cheap eats, but I would never go back here. Even starving at 2am, the food just wasn't acceptable. Everyone makes fun of Waffle House, but at least the food is cooked to order. My breakfast had soggy bacon, the sausage was undercooked and still pink in the middle. How scary is that and the pancakes were so stiff and probably precooked and microwaved to warm them up. I had a fishman's special sandwich which was horrid. Roll was stale with a small piece of fish that was cut in half to try to make it look bigger over a thrown handful of three day old iceburg lettuce.
