Pretty good ambient...Great Music!!! And drinks are two dollars from 8:30 to 10:30 you can't beat that

just went for the first time on a saturday and I had a good time! The place is alil hidden, so we did pass it but eventually found it. The parking is free, which is nice, and there is no cover. When you first enter, you have the bar to your left, and tables/seats to your right. You walk acouple of steps and you hit the mini dance floor . I danced the entire night on the small dance floor. It was saturday, so he throw in some rock en espanol. Bar service was pretty decent..bartenders seemed cool. My only major complaint is the dance floor, yes I know this place is more like a bar...but when you have good 80's music, people are gonna dance and well, I got stepped on alot, and bumped into....no bueno. 2015- 2 dollar drink(beer included) specials during certain week days from 830-1030. stopped by a few times, still have a good time here. I did experience the water down drinks that are mentioned in a few reviews, so I stick to beer when I come here. read more

I'm a sucker for new wave and anything 80s, and every time I come here I have soo much fun! Their music selection is awesome, and they even play rock en espanol! Though the dance floor is small, it's still a great time. I hate to stereotype, but I've come to find that female bartenders tend to be a little mean, but Anarchy's bartenders are really nice and I always leave appreciating their customer service! This place has great free parking, no cover to get in, and pretty good prices for drinks, and cool music on reggae night. Most beers are $4 and mixed drinks are around 6 or 7 bucks. The place is kinda small, but it's nice and cozy. However, the bathroom is right next to the dance floor which is kind of an inconvenience since some drunk guys think you're trying to dance, but you're really trying to get to the restroom to clear out all those drinks you had earlier :-P Overall, it's a cool place to hang out after work. read more

The Anarchy Library is a great punk rock dive bar in Downey, that hosts all kinds of events. Mainly band shows. I'm happy to say I've known the staff from around 2001-Present, and to have witnessed the greatest of personalities there. Maybe I might be a bit biased because they've helped me book shows with THE DEVIL BATS from time to time. Those guys were so helpful then, but now it's a bit difficult to book shows now because they are planning accordingly. They've got all the good drinks. At a reasonable price too, yo!!! They've even got a blazonry of their own custom drinks too! Not much food. They host club events too, all girls night, 80's night, just check out their website for more info. I'm gunna enjoy coming here again and again. I went 2 Thursday nights in a row and had fun both times. I was drunk both times and danced my butt off both times. Thursday nights is 80's night. I really love the look and feel of the place. The bartenders are not stingy with the alcohol and above all they are nice. At the request of my friend nacho to write up more reviews of my adventures, I am here to say what a bangin' time I had at this place. It's very hole-in-the-wall. There's a liquor store right next to it, LOL but the neighborhood doesn't seem sketch at all. We found parking across the street by some apartments. I went on HALLOWEEN night. This was an after party stop as we were inching close to 12:30am when we arrived thinking that many people would be in costume and we'd just end our night by dancing/drinking and having a good time. Well, when we got there we got greeted by the nice bouncers, "wasssup mickey" (that was my costume!) and once we got in NO ONE INSIDE had a costume on. AWKWARD. I almost turned back to call it a night but something just told me to stick around and then they started playing mah jams. lots of 80s, rock en español, and dancy rock hits. I was all for it. Since we got there late, I only managed to get a drink or 2 in me so I was pretty much sober. I had an awesome time while sober, that's how fun this place is. The crowd and the bartenders were friendly. No one was there to impress (been to too many hollywood clubs, yuck) and everyone was dancing. I got many compliments on my costume! And the rest of the night I just didnt give a crap and danced my butt off. ...then they turned on the lights, ah 2am. BOO. Next time I shall go earlier! read more

This place is ok. The door guy everytime I have been here just makes me and my friends uncomfortable. Like chill old man no one is here to see you , scan our ids and let us in already !!! The bathrooms never have toilet paper. Like I'm sure it's not that hard to refill , you have enough guys on the floor I have seen not doing anything . The owner comes in on the weekend to sell Jell-O shots which are not so good but hey they are $5 . I find it interesting that this is a 21 and over and they check ids at the door but he brings his nephew or son which is obviously NOT21 . Anarchy library seems to have some double standards . I've been here many a time and it's a good place to get a drink if you dont want to drive far from Downey. There really isnt much in Downey as it is and since I live close by it's a good place to go with a group of friends. It's a bit small and even though small bars are good to go to since it is a bit more intimate this would not be the upside to the Anarchy since the music is quite loud most of the time. This bar was actually pretty cool despite the dimly lit and sketchy environment. Bartenders were professional and were constantly making sure that everyone was served. Music could have been a bit more mixed but it was good. I've been to places where bartenders stay on one side of the bar for most of the night, which is b.s.. Geneva W. decided to have her Birthday Bash at The Anarchy, so away we went. Getting off the freeway, we drove through some residential and commercial areas of Downey to eventually arrive at this little suburban hotspot. Having the best parking spot available open up as I drove up was just a sign of the wondrous night I was going to have. The door & bar staff got their job done without pissing me off, which is all I can ask for. The staff reserved some space for the party and even created some signs that grossly misspelled Geneva W.'s name. We had enough room to sit comfortably, easy access to the bar, and easy access to the tiny dance floor and its accompanying bathrooms. Make sure you get there early, take advantage of the cheap, but oh so stiff, drinks and get the courage to dance along to some 'alternative' jams that you've never thought could be danced to. The best I could do to describe the dance floor scene would have to be to call it some sick hybrid between the 90's favorite "The Carlton" (from Fresh Prince fame) and the quazi-dancing crowd from Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit." No cover, reasonably priced drinks, pretty alright bartenders, and a ladies' room to make all other ladies' rooms in bars around the world bow in deference. Everytime I go to the Anarchy Library there's something different going on. Most of the people who frequent the place are pretty chill, and willing to have a random conversation. The door guy, and bartenders are very friendly as well, and attentive. Even on weekday nights the place can get a little crowded. The place has changed over the years. But only a little. Mostly because I rarely see bands here anymore. There is live band karaoke once a week, but i don't count that as "live bands". I sorta miss showing up and catching random metal, punk, or even pshychobilly bands. Now its mostly DJs. I think the prices on drinks went up a bit too. But honestly, this is one of the best bars around, and even better than most bars in LA. Always a good time. Even on the cheesy ass nights when they play shitty spanish rock music. Just tune it out! So, The Anarchy Library has emotions and feelings of its own. Some days you walk in there and it seems so happy and vibrant; it feels like the place to be. When you walk in, your senses are inundated with sights and sounds and smells that are unlike that of the world you just left behind. You dive into a dim world, where heat is created only by the movement of large mammals that are teeming in this environment. They move to the rhythm of 80's, new wave, and Rock en Espanol in perfect synchronicity. As you navigate your way through the sea of hefty women, you occasionally discover someone pleasing to the senses. You'll find someone as cute as a button if you're patient. These are not easy to come by, but once your eyes adjust to the dimness, you'll run into a couple, but you must be patient, like a fisherman. You don't wanna move around too much and spook the fish, just pick a spot and let them come, observe their every movement and just hope they take the bait. Analogies aside, you see an abundance of overweight women, and occasionally someone cute, but it's still a fun place to be in. This is not to say that all overweight women aren't cute, one of the bartenders is both. She's hot! On other days, The Anarchy seems in a state of depression, with hardly any activity. Instead of large mammals crowding up the scene, you have a few bespectacled individuals just staring off into space, drinking their pain away. This is generally on a day during the week, but the Anarchy that is usually full of activity --and somewhat controlled chaos-- goes to sleep. It is a depressing sight and experience for the few that attend. The restrooms are not reeking of piss during these days. The floors and walls are still Grimy as shit --hell, you might even see a shit stain, but you won't see the floors through an inch or two of piss, and that's how you are able to gauge if things are gonna crack or not. Every night that I've been to this bar feels a little different. Although the crowd is generally an edgier crowd, you find all kinds of peeps there, which is why you get a different feeling every night. Sometimes you walk in there and see a bunch of "rockerbillys" clutching on to the trends of the past; sometimes you see a few bald-headed hoodlums who seem to be enjoying the music and the beer; you also see some so-called hipsters, but the best nights are when you get them all! Cell Phones get STOLEN here!!! Yes just like you read it.. Went there this weekend with some friends and sat at the bar. I had my phone on the counter and turned around for one minute (was sitting at bar the whole time) turned around and my phone was gone. The bartenders response to this was "yeah sorry it happens all the time here" WTF??? Seriously .
