Daniel the manager at the Oceanside location went above and beyond to make sure my dog was ok after an overly energetic day at the dog camp. I was boarding my dog there while out of state for a few weeks and my dog needed to go to the vet. Daniel saw to my dog's safe transportation to the vet, had his staff follow the vet's orders to the T, transported my pet safely back to the facility and took excellent care of him until I could return. I don't usually write reviews about places or people but this is well deserved! The Animal Keeper has been the best thing to happen to our fur baby! We have a Labrador Retriever who needed work. He wasn't aggressive just super playful and didn't know when to relax. Our first day there, everyone was so kind, especially our trainer Eric. I cannot say enough good things about him and his work. He completely changed our dog, in the best way! Cooper loves him so much. The first day after picking him up, he was already different. We're now able to take Cooper places without him wanting to jump on people and/or run away from us. It makes our life a lot easier. I definitely consider Eric the dog whisperer. He has this great chemistry with animals. I would trust him with my dog a million times over. 100/10 recommend Eric. read more

I boarded my guinea pig with them several times and have not had any problems until I boarded him last month. When checking in they did not have enough counter space for him in the exotic animal room so the options were having his cage set up on the floor or placing him in the cat room. Although the exotic animal room has a door to keep dogs out, the door is only sometimes closed even with animals in it. I was worried that a dog or another pet would get into my guinea pig's cage since his cage has an open top. If the staff had told me that they didn't have enough space for him I would have bought him a cage cover for protection or looked somewhere else that had space. The situation was not ideal but it was around Christmas time and I understood that they get packed, plus I had boarded him before and this has never happened. Because of this, I decided to have his cage on the floor of the exotic animal room despite my concerns. When I returned to pick him up about a week later, he was the only animal left in the exotic room and his cage was covered in his poop. There was not a single inch of his cage that was not covered in poop. When I got there my guinea pig was sleeping in his poop and had eye discharge and crusty eyes (which means early signs of sickness). It was obvious that his cage hadn't been cleaned the entire time he was there to the point there was mold growing on his poop. Seeing him in that condition was very upsetting and the first thing I did was clean his cage, I wish I had taken a picture for proof but getting him out of there was my top priority. I understand guinea pigs are messy and poop a lot but I spot-clean my guinea pig's cage every 2 days and his cage has NEVER looked like this. The supervisor claimed that there is a staff that cleans the cages every morning but that was definitely not true. I am not sure why my guinea pig was overlooked or why the staff that fed him twice a day didn't say or do anything about his cage. Basically, I was paying $24 per night for him to sleep on his own poop. Again, all my other experiences were positive but this time was so extremely bad I will not be going back. This is especially upsetting considering finding boarding for exotic pets is difficult. But if you are considering boarding your exotic pet for more than a few days I would suggest looking into animal hospitals. They are more expensive but at least you can have peace of mind knowing they are cared for by professionals. read more

I've been taking Rocky to Animal Keeper for 3 years now - since he was a pup. He loves playing with the other dogs and the monitor at Day Camp 2 or 3 says per week. I also board him there overnight when I travel. This place is great. Very nice staff, clean facility, and they show a lot of interest and care in Rocky. This place started out fantastic, super nice staff and very accommodating. I have been taking my husky here since he was 4 months old and now he is two. Recently over the last six months, every single time I pick up my dog there is something wrong with him, he had a skin rash on his face that lasted three months. The skin rash spread all over his face and I wound up having to take him to a specialist. They were helpful when it came to this situation, which I appreciated since it went on for so long. But...this last time I brought him to the animal keeper, he stayed for one night three weeks ago, I picked him up and a day later HE HAD KENNEL COUGH!!!! Not to mention he got vaccinated for bordatella AT THE ANIMAL KEEPER!! I am so disappointed with this place, they refused to reimburse me for the vet trip and antibiotics I had to put him on since I didnt sign up for the 'insurance'. I didn't realize that my dog would get kennel cough from the place he was vaccinated at! Something has changed at this place and I DONT LIKE IT! I WILL NEVER BRING MY DOG HERE AGAIN! Stay away!!!!! Every time I picked up my baby boy from this place there was something wrong with him!!! HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS LATER, and he is finally better! Stay always! read more

Our Bella loves staying at The Animal Keeper! The staff are always so friendly and it's so nice to see the workers play with the dogs outside. I always feel safe dropping off our fur child here when we leave for the weekend or go on vacation. I took one star off because every single time i take her here, we never get her toys or things that I leave for her back. It's a little frustrating. I suppose it's my fault for not remembering to ask, but I'm just always too excited to see Bella and forget to ask. Other than that, they're great. I've boarded my 4 dogs at Animal Keeper with no issues - happy dogs until this recent stay 5/30-06/03/2024. I picked up my boys early on Monday 06/03/2024. they tried to overcharge me for "playtime" as I dropped them off late on Thursday 05/30, which is not uncommon I've had to correct the billing almost every visit but I've just accepted that responsibility. However today is so unacceptable that Animal Keeper will never see my pets again! I picked up my 2 boys this AM and my older Wheaten was coveted in Shit! under his belly and back legs. WFT? We love the Animal Keeper! We've been going to them for almost a year now and they've been amazing. We used to board our pitbull here and they were great with him and his behavioral problems. He loved coming even though he couldn't play with the other dogs. Now we take our coonhound puppy and he has a blast! They're always super nice and accommodating for all our stays. Prices are decent compared to other facilities and making appointments is a breeze. The only thing I wish they had were cameras so we could check on our fur baby while he plays and we don't get report cards like other people which would be a nice touch if we got them. read more

The Animal Keeper brings my husband and I Piece of Mind every time we bring our 14 month old Black Lab Kane, to his second home! My husband was picking up Kane one afternoon and was greeted by Brenda.(Franchise Owner) My husband was floored when Brenda new Kane by name. This goes to show how Taylor, Bennett and entire staff are involved with the animals. In the morning when we get to the front door, Kane literally opens the door with a big push of his paw. I am thrilled with Animal Keeper! I bring my very big and goofy boy, Toro about once a week to get the wiggles out. He pulls me so hard to get in as fast as possible because he can't wait to play. He is well taken care of while there and I am always impressed with how well the handlers are in the yard. If there is a scuffle (which is rare), it is handled promptly and back to play time. All of the reception staff, especially Katelyn are so friendly and helpful. EVERYONE there that I talk to are kind and respectful. They truly love all the pets, even the more difficult ones. I recently started some training with Rurik and I absolutely love it! He truly knows dogs and cares about the relationship between us and our pups. I take my Birdie to the Animal Keeper during my work days and it has been a lifesaver for me! My dog is a high-energy, social dog that definitely requires company and to burn off steam and the camp the Animal Keeper does just that for me. The staff are incredible and I cannot stress that enough, I have gotten a call for every emergency and simple concern that they've had as well as just being welcoming to both me and Birdie. The environment is an inviting space that is super clean, both the inside and the camp that I've seen completely hosed down and sanitized. Have had a good experience here, the only issue is that the prices keep getting increased. Since I started using them a year and a half ago there has been two significant price increases- the most recent is up an $12 per night for boarding, which is significant especially for longer stays. I also wish they would add webcams or picture updates or something, which most other places have. read more

My pup loves coming here for daycare !! I like that it's outdoors and he always is so excited to spend the day here ! The only downside is that for boarding , the pups are left unsupervised overnight which makes me sad to think of. I go elsewhere for boarding but love the daycare portion here. I dropped off our dog at 8:00 am for a brush and bath appointment. I asked how long and they said we will call you when ready to pick up. I called at 11:00 and got voicemail to check on status. A little while later they called and said sorry the groomer called in sick. i asked why was he left there for 3 hours and no one had bothered to call and they said they were busy making calls to those who had not come in yet to save them a trip. I asked what time was groomer to come in and was told normally 9:30 -10:00 and so I asked why was the appointment made for 8:00 which they had no answer. I totally understand people get sick and things happen. what I don't understand is why a dog, who is scared to go in these places in the first place, to be left with no one calling us to let us know. This is poor customer service and a lame excuse by the manager to say they were busy calling people. it does not take that long to make a few phone calls. If this is how you wish for your pet or you to be treated then this is your place, if not avoid this place until they get new management. read more
