This was our first time visiting this restaurant. We chose it to celebrate our anniversary, mainly because of its high online ratings and its convenient location near our home. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed, which initially made us think we had made a great choice. Unfortunately, the experience that followed was quite the opposite. We started with a couple of alcoholic drinks and asked our server to recommend two sweeter options. What arrived was disappointing. One drink came in a glass coated with an excessive amount of salt--not just around the rim, but all over the side of the glass. Simply picking it up left my hands covered in salt. The other drink was described as sweet, but it wasn't sweet at all and had a strong bitterness from orange peel. To her credit, our server did take it back and add some syrup, which made it more drinkable. We also ordered a half dozen oysters. When they arrived, they were served with only lemon wedges and a chili-based sauce. Most oyster restaurants offer a variety of accompaniments and condiments, so this was somewhat surprising. For our entrées, we ordered the beef short ribs and the sea bass. The food arrived promptly, but the flavors were confusing and difficult to understand. My beef short ribs were served with Chinese mustard greens (xuelihong), and not the traditional pickled version--these were fresh and retained their sharp, pungent flavor. The beef itself was seasoned primarily with soy sauce and sugar, and unfortunately it was somewhat dry rather than tender and succulent. The sea bass was even more puzzling. The fish itself was cooked properly, but it was paired with bok choy, a relatively inexpensive vegetable. While the choice of vegetable on a $40+ entrée already felt somewhat odd, the real issue was the seasoning. The chef heavily flavored the bok choy with star anise. The flavor was so overpowering that every bite tasted as though I had accidentally bitten directly into a whole star anise pod. As someone who is very familiar with these spices, it felt less like creative fusion cooking and more like experimentation for the sake of being different. The result was not innovative or exciting--it was simply unpleasant. Rather than elevating the dish, the unusual combination distracted from it. At one point, we even asked our server for some hot sauce because the seasoning was so difficult to enjoy. She seemed somewhat surprised by the request, but the hot sauce never arrived. We're honestly not sure why this restaurant has such high ratings. From our perspective, the food lacked a clear culinary identity. It wasn't a successful blend of different cuisines that captured the strengths of each; instead, it felt like a collection of mismatched ideas that never came together. The ingredients themselves felt inexpensive, and the overall dining experience did not justify the price. We ended up packing most of the food and went to another restaurant afterward. Our server mentioned that they change the menu every week, which may explain why the dishes felt underdeveloped and lacking refinement. Regardless of the reason, this was not an experience we would repeat, and unfortunately we will not be returning.

There's quite a bit of New American cuisine restaurants in Pasadena to choose from. I heard some good things about The Arbour a few years ago but like anything else, new places open up and later ones get a bit forgotten. I came were for a business event that served up a multi course dinner. I'd say this place has a cool vibe that appears to have more local patrons than anyone outside the city. I was starving and the 1st course was a baby kale Caesar salad.. Sprinkled with with a crispy quinoa, and topped with shaved parmesan, this made for a well balanced salad. Caesar salad can sometime be too creamy, too salty or both. This was on point. 2nd course was the jumbo lump crab cake. Came with a shave cabbage slaw and dallop of tartar sauce. Not bad but would of preferred a lighter batter. Batter reminded me of frozen fish stick batter consistency. 3rd course, I was a bit impressed with the braised short rib. It was sizable. Came with artichoke heart, potato puree, rapini and a horseradish cream. Very good, super tender, flavorful, not too salty, and memorable. 4th and last course was dessert. Olvie oil cake with a chocolate ganache icing and passion fruit cream. Cake itself could of been a bit more moist. A bit more olive oil would of done it. Passion fruit cream didn't really go well with the chocolate ganache. A less tart flavor would of done the trick. I'd suggest raspberry! Overall, I was impressed with the food but what was even better was the service. The servers came around to make sure we were taken care of and on point with drinks. I'd come back again.

The fried bacon wrapped dates were yummy! I got a mocktail and it was basically a frizzy lemonade/ginger ale - not bad. For the main course, I got the pork chop. It was a bit greasy and I found the sauce to be too rich. My friend got the filet mignon and he liked it. The raspberry tiramisu was different, beautifully presented and delicious! Highly recommend that dessert. The bread pudding was good too! The ambiance was great: modern, open, elegant but very noisy because of the open-beam ceiling. Service was fine.

Location 4 stars: On the West side of S Lake Ave in Pasadena, California, slightly North of E California Blvd. Parking on the street and a private lot on the back. You can also use the mall parking structure for a fee. Venue 4 stars: Nicely appointed tables and booths. Full bar. No outdoor seating but they do have a well lit atrium-like area in the front. Service 4.5 stars: Polite and professional. Food 5 stars: Modern American fare in a comfortable upscale setting. And the food is great! We had the Fried Dates, the Crab Toast, the Shrimp Penne, the Filet Mignon, and the Black Pepper Crusted Chicken. All were excellent and highly recommended. Drinks 4.5 stars: Full Bar. They have a few specialty cocktails, spirits, beer, wine and soft drinks. The Bottom Line 5 stars: Great option for some wonderful food and drinks in an upscale yet not stuffy setting. Easy parking (specially in Pasadena) is the icing on the cake. Highly recommended!

I've been wanting to come here! Why haven't I?! Really tasteful dishes, even the salads are top notch. Our waiter Thomas was nice and genuine. Wish I ordered more, but I was so full I was about to ask the staff if they can roll me out. Nice layout.

This is a fabulous restaurant. The décor is elegant and soothing. And the highlight is their flavorful and delicious preparations! We tried their happy hour for the first time tonight, getting a range of items, including a very spicy and tasty jalapeno margarita, an amazing cheesy eggplant risotto, a fresh healthy yellowtail crudo, and a velvety divine butternut squash soup! The flavors were all spot on. Kudos to the kitchen! The only low-point was when our server, C, repeated our order and asked if it was correct, and I said yes, but then asked her to add one more soup, and she audibly let out a big irritated sigh and turned away back to the kitchen. I have no idea why that was such a big hassle for her. Maybe she was unhappy we were ordering off the HH menu? The irony was I had ordered two separate things prior that were not available: one that was listed on the online menu, that was not on the current menu, and the other that was on the table menu (mushroom soup), that they just didn't have anymore (so it was changed to butternut squash soup). I was completely friendly about the news, as I should be. At the time I wasn't sure I wanted the new soup so passed, but had decided after a few minutes when she came back to go for it. You'd think she would understand in that case, why I might take a moment to think about it. Anyway, people have tough days. We enjoyed our time out none-the-less and will visit again soon.

Oh, this one's a family favorite! The ambiance was pleasant, and the service was attentive. Most importantly, the food was delicious; everything we tried was flavorful and well-prepared. I heard the chefs trained at a culinary school, and I can definitely believe it based on the quality of the dishes. All in all, a solid choice in the area and definitely worth trying!

I had an absolute incredible meal last Saturday! Maine Lobster Salad was the standout! The lobster is incredibly fresh and tender, cooked perfectly. The crushed edamame and soy sauce perfectly complimented the freshness of the lobster so well. Every bite was light, edamame provided texture and it's packed with flavor. We had a very nice and attentive server. The ambiance is truly elegant, making is a great choice for a special night out. We had a party of twelve, and while the food was the highlight, we were unfortunately seated right by the kitchen, which felt less private than we'd hoped for such a large group. The high-traffic feel, is the main issue and not the noise level. It was a very busy dinner hour on a Saturday. I feel that the server was a bit short and seemed to be rushing us. Didn't really offer suggestions nor ready for any questions about the menu. The 4-stars is mainly for the lobster salad. The star of the menu.

The Arbour has to be one of my favorite restaurants in Pasadena. It is a fun (not too loud) an intimate restaurant for all occasions! We came here on a Wednesday night for my stepmom's birthday (she's never tried this restaurant before) and she was pleasantly surprised. We had a party of four and we had ordered for appetizers (some included the potato croquettes, and the beef salad), along with a personal pasta entrée for each of us. Their appetizers are great starters and very light. The Buccatini pasta is always my go to - the sauce is absolute heaven on earth and I never go for anything else. My stepmom and father are vegetarian so they had the mushroom risotto and another pasta dish - both were amazing according to them as well! When it came to her birthday and having excellent service, our server - Cessalie was amazing! She was so sweet and patient with us. Her service really added to our experience.

This place has its appeals, but unfortunately it's a miss for me. I understand why people enjoy the array of foods and drinks, and the dim setting for intimate occasions, but I don't think it's great to celebrate a birthday. The quality of food, relative to price, seems below average compared to other restaurants in the area. Although I enjoyed the duck and beef tartare dishes, and didn't care for the other dishes, the prices seemed higher than I would expect. According to my parents, the service can be a hit or miss, and my visit would constitute a visit. I don't imagine coming back here anytime soon, but respectfully, to each their own.

Service is above expectations! Ambiance is beautiful (until an alarm went off and they couldn't shut it off) Food was mostly over-salted. I had the bucatini and my father had the sea bass. We both were not happy with the salt level. The shrimp pasta was a bit over also but at least more manageable. My husband had the Yellowfin Tuna which he said was perfect for him so he was the only one to pretty much finish his dinner. I cannot say that this was the best first experience I've had for what I thought would be an upscale restaurant. I gave a generous tip because of the service but I don't think I will return for the food. I will add that it was my father's birthday and the chef's special dessert (not featured on the menu) was the highlight of the entire evening!! By far one of the best desserts I've ever experienced and should definitely be a signature dessert of this chef! Standing ovation!

Came for dinner the other night as a family of four. They were very welcoming and nice to offer us a seat at a table while still letting us order off their happy hour menu. We ordered a Caesar salad, raw oysters, garlic fries, their hamburger, a pasta, and their cheese toast. I did see other tables with complimentary bread but we weren't offered any. Food came pretty quickly and everything was delicious. My favorite was the pasta. It was steaming hot and was very flavorful. Definitely will be back again!

Can't believe it took us this long to try The Arbour especially after hearing so many people rave about the food. There is usually a few open parking spots up and down Lake but we parked in the structure behind. Our waitress was super friendly and suggested we start with both pasta appetizers (tagliatelle w/ pork sausage and the agnolotti) and boy were they good. Both pastas reminded me of similar pastas we've had at Osteria Mozza. Would head back just for these 2 pasta dishes. I love when restaurants serve you hot bread, just warming it up before serving makes a huge difference in my opinion. For our entrees we ordered the mushroom risotto, duck duo and the new york steak. All were exceptional and my favorite was the mushroom risotto. Ended the meal with the milk chocolate mousse and warm bread pudding. I preferred the chocolate mousse as there was a peanut butter crunch like cookie at the bottom. We will definitely be back as the food and service were exceptional!

A group of seven of us dined here the other night, most of us for the first time. EVERYTHING was perfect, from the craft cocktails (some watermelon creation) to the food to the service. It was one of the best complete dining experiences that I've had in years. The special appetizer was toast with sliced fresh figs on top of marscapone with a touch of honey. We were all blown away by the flavor of such a simple dish. My sea bass (with super crispy skin) was bomb, my son loved his steak and the others fell in lust with their spaghetti (fresh pasta with butter and cheese). Get the baked Californian for dessert. Do it. You won't be sorry. What I really appreciated was the great flavors attained with simple fresh quality ingredients. Very unpretentious. It's a bit pricy, but worth it. First the ambiance because of how the tables are set out is cozy and the views right to the open kitchen are great. Our server whose name I didnt get was wonderful, attentive, and friendly. Our apps and dinners were very good, everyone was satisfied. We had beet salad and apple salad which were delish, though a bit over dressed. We had salmon salad, steak, bucatini in sausage cream sauce, and the medit sea bass. All excellent, worth returning for. The only misstep was the dessert, the apple strudel. It was bland and should be removed from the menu. Great experience. read more

What an incredible anniversary dinner we had last night. From the second we walked in, the decor is stunning and the host was so nice. Our server was a PRO. He was so skilled at his job and really gave some great pointers on what to order, we were very impressed. The food. My goodness, this was good food. Everything was fresh, delicious.. and that CHILI!!! Just wow. Our drinks were fantastic as well. We truly had one of our best nights together- can't ask for more on an anniversary. Hubby thought our anniversary was a nice opportunity to try this place for the first time, and I'm so glad he booked it! We had a fabulous dinner - our waiter Jake really made the evening fun with his effusive personality and frank (and accurate) menu suggestions. The special appetizer was the rock star of the evening. Trout on buttered brioche with marscapone cheese, and a little red onion. Dinner was fantastic too - loved the chili with the beef fat candle, our two fish dishes and dessert. The farm-to-table concept was well executed in menu, décor, and the service was fantastic. An experience worth repeating! read more

Amazing restaurant, drinks are amazing, food taste great, and the service is awesome! I myself got a Manhattan and the drink came out perfect. My wife liked a dirty martini extra dirty and she also loved it. We loved the oysters and mushroom dish, tasted fresh and wasn't heavy. The Sea Bass was perfect, not to fish and cooked just right. Such a nice restaurant in South Pasadena! The food is excellent- we ordered a half dozen oyster and 2 different kinds of pasta. We had a chocolate mouse as dessert and it was amazing!! Our server was Bridget and her service was impeccable. They have a great selection of alcohol - i ordered the wine from opolo winery and it was smooth and delicious. Malbec was so so. Only down side was the bass boy went to box our food - we were eating 2 different kinds of pasta but he boxed everything together ‍ such a bummer read more

We really enjoy this restaurant! It's pricey but my husband have always been over the moon happy with our food! My favorite dish is the Shrimp Penne Pasta (there's always enough for me to take home for lunch the next day), but we've tried many dishes on the menu and everything is truly delicious! Parking on the street, and EASY free parking in a lot right behind the building. Great place! read more

I've been here twice for special celebrations for our large family. Both times our family has had a great meal and delicious drinks. One member of our party is a vegetarian. This restaurant is a great addition to the wonderful places to eat on South Lake Avenue. The ambiance, the energy, and the great service all combine for a great dining experience. I've enjoyed great appetizers... cheese plate, charcuterie board, ahi tuna at the bar. Bison tartare is also a great appetizer. Drinks are made with precision and experience. In talking with other customers, the visual impact of the food is only surpassed by its incredible flavor. Each plate that is delivered looks like a picture out of a food magazine. "Farm to Table" is definitely an appropriate statement. The crowd here is eclectic and composed of people that enjoy going out and eating. There are a lot of customers that are still trying the new place in town. Valet parking in the front along South Lake and parking off of Hudson by the back entrance. I highly recommend this experience. read more

Great service and great food. I highly recommend this hidden gem. I say hidden because we never knew it existed until recently. The craft cocktails are perfectly prepared; and their wine list, even by the glass, is outstanding. The food did not disappoint either. They clearly use fresh ingredients. This place is one of my favorite restaurants whose foods and service are perfect. Their beautiful and artistic presentations of foods, kind and attentive service, and great ambience...everything about this restaurant deserves more than 5 stars. They have plenty of options and choices from their appetizer, hot appetizer, entree and desserts. Anything you choose, it's going to be amazing and delicious. Even their bread is outstanding. Although the restaurant is very popular, you won't be overwhelmed by the noise. It seems like the restaurant has a magic power. You can feel a good vibe from all people who enjoy their foods, great conversations and lovely moments in this spot. You can feel very comfortable harmony of joys among other customers. The best thing about the Arbour is their private room. Well, to be fair, the room is glass so it's not exactly very private but it is an enclosed area and it is beautiful. You have to call ahead of time to book it but trust me, it's worth making the call. The service here is good but a little slow. It took a long time to get our drinks and food. However, the servers are really friendly and gave us great food and cocktail recommendations. The food is a tad pricey but delicious. We had a large party so I got to try almost everything on the menu and nothing disappoints. The steak we ordered was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. read more

Great experience at The Arbour. The service is fun and friendly, we really enjoyed Craig. He went above and beyond for me by getting my a glass of soda water and bitters to settle my stomach. He also had excellent recommendations for the the table. The atmosphere was awesome. I love the decor and the vibes, industrial chic as I previously saw it described is spot on. The windows inside give a little divide between sections with out closing off. Beautiful restaurant and the food was delicious. The risotto was creamy and flavorful. I also really enjoyed the pasta & shrimp dish. Overall, I would recommend trying this restaurant out. read more

One of the best birthday dinners I ever had was a T-bone steak cooked up by the brilliant head chef and his talented kitchen crew, and served with care by the attentive wait staff. Cocktails before the entree were mixed by the best bartenders in Pasadena. I had them bring out a tall frosty IPA when the meat arrived. You know I'm usually vegetarian? I didn't feel guilty at all. I guess the secret is already out on this place. I saw Dodgers pitching great Orel Hershiser while I was there! read more

PHENOMENAL!!! Literally every bite is a party in your mouth! The Arbour knows how to present and create really clean, innovative and delicious dishes. Every dish is cooked to perfection and they are very accommodating to your needs. The service is great and restaurant itself is very beautiful. Has a very modern feel to it. They also have complimentary parking in the back. Every dish we had was great so you can't go wrong with anything. This was my second time there and they definitely change the menu depending on season. Ask for Craig (server). He really knows how to explain the preparation and flavors of each dish. First and foremost, if you look past this beautiful restaurant, I promise you're doing yourself a disservice! 1. The restaurant- beautiful, romantic, dimly lit, and very comfortable. I have been wanting to try this restaurant out for a long time. We had a table of 6. We decided to try a few things for appetizers. We had a dozen oysters which were so small you couldn't even see the oyster in the shell and they were tasteless. Next up were the potato croquettes. They were big tater-tots again no flavor. Last app was the beet salad. We enjoyed that but it was so small. On to the entrees. 1. shrimp pasta with cream. Nothing to write home about. 2. The bucatini. Same as above. Just pasta with meat sauce. 3. Seared yellowfin tuna on top of garlic risotto cake. This entree was terrible! Tuna had no flavor or the cake. Yuck! 4. New york strip, the meat and veggies were ok but the garlic mash were way over seasoned. 5. Duo of duck. No flavor looked like it was cooked properly. 6. The seabass was done like a little mushy but had flavor. The restaurant is over priced. All I can say is that I won't be going back. read more

Everything about this place is perfect. Food, atmosphere and service. And excited that this is not a chain restaurant! No expense was spared in creating this incredible space. Every detail is perfect right down to the beautiful wine glasses. Our server Jake was so helpful and professional. We share the tagliatelli with sausage and chile chibatta apetizers which we plated like out of a magazine. The Pear salad and the Beet salads were so fresh and delicious. I had the dover sole spirals which we amazing and our friends had the linguine and clams that were the best this side of Italy. The wine list also extensive and reasonable. Not too fond of this restaurant. Service is good. Food was mediocre. Flavor just wasn't right with any of the dishes we ordered. Crowd was on the older side. The ambiance was ok. We went on a Friday night and it was really loud. Hard to eat and have a conversation there. Probably won't be returning for awhile. read more

Made reservations for a late Sunday evening date night. Glad I did because the place was full. We entered through the back (also where there's a parking lot) and got to walk through the entire restaurant. There's large tables, farm style, booths and (I think) 2 separate rooms for large parties. The ambiance was lively in a good way. We were sat right away, our table for 2 was very close to the next one's on either side (I'm not a fan of that) but it worked. Service was prompt and friendly. We started with a glass of the Sauvignon Blanc (after 3 the bottle would have made more sense!) and the beet salad, delicious- the goat cheese made it. For entrees we had the lobster risotto ($52) and the seared tuna ($43). I can't explain how amazing these 2 dishes were, absolutely perfect in flavor, texture, and quality, talk about elevating your palate. For dessert we had the espresso martini, now this was delicious, I have this drink at many places and this one so far has to be my favorite, smooth and well balanced. I'm so glad we finally tried this place out; definitely expensive, but worth every penny. Looking forward to more date nights. read more

We haven't even ordered anything from the regular menu yet and we went back twice! Twice we ordered small appetizer plates to share and from the bar menu and we were extremely satisfied. The beef tartar, raw oysters, burger, orecchiette... were delicious, fresh, beautifully plated and served hot and fast. The head chef orchestrated the kitchen with speed and efficiency! The lady bartender is great with drinks and chatted with everyone. The restaurant is nicely decorated in industrial chic... This is a great restaurant overall and we will definitely go back to order from the main menu, soon. read more

Came here for dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. I must say everything we ordered was delicious! We started off with a couple appetizer salad to share and they provided us with some sour dough rolls with room temp butter and some sea salt sprinkled on. One was a Cesar salad and the other was artichoke. The dressing for the Cesar salad was amazing!! The artichoke dish was really tasty with the mix green, sliver almonds and like dressing. For our main entree, we ordered the lamb chops, chicken and scallops. The portion was nice and everything was cooked to perfection and very tasty. For dessert, we shared a "California baked" which was also delicious! All the dishes were very well presented and we ate everything off our plates with nothing left over. That's how amazing the food tasted to us. Our server was also very knowledgeable and very attentive. His recommendations from drinks to entree were spot on. I recommend this restaurant to my friends and family. In fact, our group of friends already set a date in a few weeks to come back to try their lunch menu! I can't wait! read more

We had a fantastic party for 60 people at the Arbour. All our guests raved about the delicious food, the great service and the beautiful ambience. Thank you so much Ian and crew for the success! We worked with Chef Ian to come up with a great menu. His willingness to accommodate our millions of requests and changes were very much appreciated! As an appetizer, the diver scallops were cooked just right and paired really well with edamame, hummus & watercress. Our guests were very happy with this dish. For a pre main course, I think the lobster stuffed back into its shell made an impressive presentation. The perfect amount of pasta and sauce. As usual, I really enjoyed my Sea Bass main dish. Perhaps next time I would like to ask for non fried polenta. It's just my personal taste. My husband really enjoyed his medium rare NY strip loin! Oh the penna cotta dessert was beautiful and not too sweet which our guests all loved! I know we had a little misunderstanding about the timing of our speech at the party. Excellence top to bottom! My second time here and my goodness on every level!! Our server Judy was sheer delight, her timing was perfect in terms of reading our slow timing to enjoy a luxurious experience. We had the Brussels salad, the sea bass (omg perfect light garlic and crisp skin), finished with the apple strudel and fantastic port. This restaurant is all I could ask for on every level. An absolutely wonderful dining experience! I hope you'll go and I hope you'll get Jake as your server! We were a very large group, 14 people. Somehow Jake managed to keep all of the orders right and keep the wine flowing. He was personable without being phony. His colleagues who helped him were also very skilled servers. I had the apple salad to start...Pink Lady apples, pecans, frisée and arugula. It was very fresh...crisp lettuce and crunchy apples. I love pecans and they had plenty on the salad. The champagne vinaigrette was very light and didn't overpower the salad. I had the sea bass. I don't think I've ever had sea bass this good before. The skin was crispy. The flesh was firm and moist. My colleague tasted it and enjoyed it as much as I did. The polenta and the fennel that accompanied it were perfect pairings. Dessert...oh my goodness! The chocolate mousse with raspberries was awesome! It was more dense than the typical mousse and I loved that! Sometimes mousse is just too light! Not this one...dense, rich and chocolaty! It was also a nice portion...a substantial portion. They have a good wine list. We were all happy with our wine choices. They also give a good pour. I hate skimpy pours! I understand why we had such a great dining experience...we chatted with the manager on the way out. He told us about their emphasis on both guest satisfaction and employee satisfaction. That's the recipe for employee commitment and customer loyalty. I'll be back in Pasadena this Fall. I know I'll eat here when I return. Office dinner celebration for 9. Arbour has been in business for almost a year. The food is farm to table and you could taste the freshness and care that goes to choosing the produce. The food and service was excellent. My sea bass was a little bit salty, but the skin was crispy and fish was so good. The smoked duck was quite a show with a glass dome, when lifted smoke came out to reveal the dish. The best table in the restaurant is a table for 2 in front of the fireplace. They have a ton of indoor seating but also the patio is just so nice & relaxing here. Very chill, quiet vibes and they open at 12pm on weekdays. Perfect atmosphere for work meetings or a liquid lunch meetup. Even the bathroom was cool with colorful grafitti abound. I liked the whole vibe of Stone. It's a cool brewery plopped down in the middle of Pasadena! For non-beer people, a Miller Lite is 4.2% in comparison so why not have a much tastier craft beer in place of that swill! She ended up grabbing a lime herself from the garnish tray--which I understand isn't ideal--but the response we got was completely out of line. The male bartender became immediately hostile and started aggressively cursing at my friend. When I calmly asked the female bartender if this was normal behavior, he inserted himself into the conversation and said, "she put her fucking hand in the fucking jar," in a very confrontational tone. I tried to de-escalate the situation and respectfully explained that there was no reason to speak to us that way, but he continued the hostility and ultimately told us to "get the fuck out." At that point, I paid for our drinks and we left. What made this especially disappointing is that this has never been our experience here before. We've always enjoyed this bar and have had positive interactions with the regular staff. If this had been my first visit, I would not come back. I understand that what my friend did wasn't appropriate, but it absolutely did not justify being yelled at and cursed out. I hope management addresses this, because this kind of behavior is not reflective of the bar I've come to know.

Instead, she offered to replace it with a different cut of steak that she said would be more tender but cost more. And I fell for it, I agreed. The replacement steak arrived with only peppercorn sauce and no fries or sides (which she had mentioned beforehand), but what she didn't mention was how unpleasant the sauce was. At that point, I honestly wished we had just gone to Houston's. The one positive thing I can say is that we were seated on a side with a nice view of the surrounding buildings and street, which was enjoyable. Other than that, there was nothing about this experience that would make me want to return.

The restaurant itself isn't too big but it does a pack a nice punch. Cute patio out front that takes some of the sidewalks and streets. Plenty of heat lamps which helped with the chilly nights. We got seated at one of the tables on the patios which was nice. Didn't really utilize inside area except for the restroom which it's quite cute in there. The rooms were pretty well decorated and executed. Nice bar area too. Like mentioned, we got seated on the patio and the heat lamps were great. Down to the menus, it's quite limited on dishes. Seemed like there were more shared plates versus the entrees. Drinks, it was fairly decent with their cocktails and wine. Service at the beginning was great. The staff were amazing and very friendly. We didn't order right away as we were still waiting for the last one to show. But did start off with some drinks. It didn't take that long for the first round which was nice. Food wise, the shared plate was a mixture of everything. Some of the olives, which is exactly what it is. The Belgian fries, nice thick cut fries with shredded pecorino cheese and a nice aioli sauce. We ended up getting a second order of it. The albacore tuna crudo was a hit which was really tasty. Chili ginger relish, mint and shallot, can't go wrong with that. Lastly the meatballs, tasty and very great for sharing. Entrees, the pan seared sea bass which I loved. Portion is pretty tiny which also seemed like they were a shared plate. Almost tapas styled. Nice chimichurri sauce and a side salad. The chicken Milanese also with a side salad of arugula. Simple dish but quite tasty. One of the salads that was somewhat hyped up by the waitress but it was just a salad. Decent but nothing major to rave about...lol... also the confit oyster mushrooms was major hit. Something that simple but quite tasty. And lastly the pan con tomate, rustic sourdough with tomatoes and burrata. Tasty as well. Overall the meal was good. From there, the second round of drinks did take a long time to arrive and with then plates that we shared, trying to get someone to clear the plates was another thing. Took a long for someone to clear the table before more items came. Even when the entrees came, all the empty starter plates were still there. And if someone did clear the plates, some was still left on the table. Finishing off the night, we did have the dessert which we tried all three. As it was two of our girlfriends birthday, they brought out a little bubbly for us to celebrate with the dessert. That was quite sweet and nice. Honestly opinion with the dessert, they were just ok. Nothing major to rave about. We tried all three on the menu and they were just ok. Overall, the food was great. Service was nice and the staffs were all very friendly. It did take a while for plates to get cleared from the table and second round did take a while, but it was manageable. HAKATA SET (Your choice of: Tonkotsu or Miso Ramen, comes with Mini Spicy Tuna Don, Chicken Karaage 2 pcs, Tsukemono) This was one of the set items for the lunch special. Chose the miso ramen. The miso ramen had a very strong white miso flavor. Didn't hate it, as I do love miso, but it was a little too much miso for my liking. Typical curly ramen and it was cooked well. Loved the jammy egg too. It was a soy marinated egg. There were also three pieces of chashu too! It was good, but slightly overcooked. The portion of the ramen was medium sized and was surprised they didn't bring a smaller size since it was a set meal. But happy they were generous! Spicy tuna don was a small bowl, but they gave a good portion of spicy tuna, which was delicious. Chicken karaage were two pieces of chicken and it was just okay. No tsukemono was served with the meal. Overall the meal was satisfying. I think the price was fair for what was given. CUSTOMER SERVICE Good, friendly and attentive customer service. No complaints! AMBIANCE / TABLES + SEATS Very calm and relaxing ambiance. It was quiet and no music was playing, which I liked. The restaurant was super clean and I liked how the tables were set. Large tables in the back and small tables were closer to the front. Bar seats on the side. It was a medium-sized restaurant, but the layout made it feel larger. Clean bathroom too. PARKING The closest and most logical parking spot was the one right across from the restaurant. School House Garage on 33 E Green St, Pasadena, CA 91105. Rates: $1.00 first 2 hrs, $2.00 for each additional hour. $12 for the full day. The crabcakes were yummy! A must order. The seabass itself was good but the sauerkraut in the dish was terrible and does not have a place on the dish. Kind of ruined that fish for us which was a bummer. We did tell our server that and they did bring us a free dessert which was pretty good. Overall I would have rated it a 3 but since the customer service was so good when we spoke up about the fish dish I am giving it a 4.

Words cannot describe how amazing this place is! The décor and ambiance is not like anything you'd find in Pasadena. Once you walk into the restaurant, you are greeted by the host and he immediately makes you feel at home and like you're VIP at the same time. The layout of the restaurant is very inviting. You have full view of the kitchen and watching the chefs do their thing... is like watching art in front of you. Everything is so seamless here. Here is the breakdown: SERVICE - Everyone was so helpful and accommodating. Any review on here that says otherwise...they are just nitpicking and being high maintenance. Our waiter knew the menu very well and was very engaging. They don't miss a beat there! The owner Nancy (whose husband Ian is the also the chef and owner) was going around from table to table talking to everyone. It just made the night that much more memorable. She was like a breath of fresh air and was lovely to talk to. It's wonderful to see a husband and wife opening up a restaurant like this in Pasadena. This is definitely going to a place where they will remember you when you come back. FOOD - We stated with cocktails and I had the BEST old fashioned! The bartenders definitely know what they are doing. My friends and I started out with the seafood salad, seared albacore tuna, bison tartare, spicy beef chili and the tagliatelle. The seafood salad was so fresh and light. The albacore tuna was a pleasant surprise. The addition of the olive tapenade was a burst of flavor you wouldn't expect and we all loved it. And the bison tartare...with that shallot ash...how have I never had this before! It was soo good! The spicy beef chili...THIS DISH ALONE is reason enough to come here!! The beef fat candle is GENIUS!! We were fighting over who was going to get the last bite of this dish. Do yourself a favor and ORDER THIS when you come! You won't be disappointed! The tagliatelle...I felt like I was eating pasta at a little café in Italy. The utter decadence of this dish makes you thankful that dishes like this exist outside of Italy. For our entrees we had the halibut, pork chop, smoked duck breast and rib eye. The halibut was light and tasty and the gnocchi was soft and pillowy. The pork chop was so juicy along with the creamy polenta, we all loved this one. The duck for 2 came out in this cloche and the way it was presented was something to be seen. Once the dome was lifted, a waft of smoke rushed out and perfumed the whole area. It was a sight for the senses... and the duck....my goodness was it amazing. When the rib eye came out, we couldn't believe our eyes. Once we all took a bite of the that glorious meat smothered with that amazing smoked tomato hollandaise sauce, we all just looked at each other without saying a word. We were speechless as to what we had just taken a bite of. It was THAT GOOD! When it was time for dessert, we couldn't pass it up. Since we were all blown away by how great dinner was, we had to know what the chef had up his sleeves when it came to the final course. We had the baked California, blackberries with lemon custard and the chocolate mousse. The blackberries with lemon custard was just what we needed. It was light and refreshing. If you are a chocolate lover, then you MUST order the chocolate mousse. It was rich and light at the same time. And you can't come here without ordering the baked California. You will be sorry if you don't. It's the chef's take on the timeless baked Alaska. This has a light almond brittle inside and once you take that first bite, you are going to be saying to yourself....how have I never had a dessert this amazing before? You won't want to share after that first bite. Again...trust me! OVERALL - you NEED to try this place out! The Arbour is going to change how people perceive the dining scene in Pasadena! Finally.... Absolute Perfection in Pasadena! I stopped by The Arbor on Lake Avenue today for their happy hour, and it was an absolutely stellar experience from start to finish. If you haven't been here yet, you are seriously missing out! The Drinks & Food Hibiscus Margarita: Phenomenal. It was beautifully balanced, refreshing, and the perfect twist on a classic. Artichoke Risotto: Rich, perfectly cooked, and pure comfort food. It's hard to find a happy hour risotto done this well. Yellowfin Tuna Crudo Incredibly tasty. (Chefs kiss). Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse: Oh my goodness. You cannot leave without ordering this. It is a decadent, velvety dream of a dessert that completely stole the show. The Service What truly elevates this place is the hospitality. The entire team went above and beyond to make the afternoon special: The bartender was fantastic and crafted the drinks perfectly. The waiters were incredibly attentive and sharp. The manager was so gracious, checking in to ensure everything was seamless. This is an update to my previous review. The key selling point of this place is the head chef carefully crafts a delicious entree for you, but if you don't like something? They are more than happy to accommodate. I hate hate hate hate hate when I go to a place and there's no substitutions. I could get that if the place is jam packed? I am respectful to their workflow. But when it's not jam packed and the chef is stating that they carefully curated this meal and would like you to enjoy it as presented? I get it, I really do, but I can go out and buy a Mercedes (if I had more than 18 dollars in my pocket right now) and ask for a change, and they'll do it! But I don't want horseradish on the side of the dish? NO dice. The arbour will do everything in their power to accommodate your needs, whether it's on the dish or for your party, they're great. So glad this option exists in Pasadena. With an already impressive lineup of quality establishments up there, the Arbour is a welcome addition. read more

We dined at this restaurant tonight and were very disappointed with the overall experience, particularly the service. From the moment we arrived, the hostess (Julia) appeared visibly annoyed that we were dining with children. Her demeanor was unwelcoming and came across as dismissive rather than accommodating. Throughout our meal, she repeatedly approached the table to clear items the children had dropped, which felt excessive and uncomfortable rather than helpful. Our server (leslie) was similarly unfriendly and disengaged. Given that we spent over $200 on our meal, we expected a baseline level of hospitality and professionalism, which unfortunately was not delivered. The overall tone made us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. Because of this experience, we will not be returning. "Seared Tuna: A Flavor Heist in Plain Sight" Last night, I joined my family for dinner, bringing along my NYC hospitality expertise. Little did I know I was in for a culinary caper. The seared tuna with crispy risotto cakes was the main suspect. The tuna had pulled a Houdini, making all flavor disappear. The risotto cakes? Harder than my grandmother's fruitcake, and trust me, that's saying something. They were topped with what looked like guacamole, but tasted like it had gone into witness protection. Asparagus, overcooked to oblivion, was the dish's only overachiever. Service was passable, but table maintenance was AWOL - our crumbs had a longer stay than we did. Overall, this dining experience was less "bon appétit" and more "bland appétit." Two stars, mostly for the unintentional comedy. The ambiance was nice and cozy but heavy chairs. read more

The Arbour is my happy place! The menu is amazing, with new things to try all the time. Their pastas are all handmade and are incredible, the tagliatelle is my go-to. The seared yellowfin tuna dish is one of my favorites - I'm a sushi lover so I love fresh fish, and the flavors of this dish are so unique. The salmon is literally the best ever, just soo flavorful and slightly crispy on the outside but perfectly tender on the inside. My hubs and I always share the spicy beef candle... YESSS please. The drinks are top notch, and the service and ambiance are what makes the whole experience feel like it's in a different league than other restaurants. Elegant and beautiful but not stuffy. I am a regular at The Arbour. I am always greeted as if I am royalty. The interior transports you outside of Pasadena with all the wood and greenery, and a seat by the open kitchen is always entertaining. Their food has always been consistent and tasty. My favorites are the tagliatelle, bucatini (see fancy pic) sea bass, tuna, and steaks are always cooked to perfection. They have a full service bar and the bartenders are experience to make any cocktail you desire. The servers are happy to be there and the owner, Chef Ian, is there all the time which shows in how the restaurant always runs so smoothly. This place is a Pasadena staple and a place I am proud to be a regular at. read more

Let me preface - I have never written a negative review in my life. I downloaded yelp for the first time to make this review. I experienced the Arbour Valentine's Day night, and underwhelmed is an understatement. The food was fine, the service was fine, the atmosphere was fine. But for the one option only of $150 per person, the experience was dumbfoundingly worse than countless establishments that charge a tiny fraction of the price of the Arbour. Bar seating is not comfortable at all...Sitting in a chair there out my legs touching against the bar table, unless you put chair far away not reaching anything!
