This quaint little home-like restaurant would be worthy of 5 stars had their parking lot and driveway been more spacious and free flowing. Driving up the ramp, I envisioned a soon to be Demolition Derby with my rather larger sized SUV The waitstaff was most professional and definitely accommodating. Having arrived later than planned for a closed event, the waitstaff kindly wrapped up my missed meal "to-go". I enjoyed the coffee/dessert(strawberry shortcake) as a nice ending to what, I'm sure, was a perfectly meal had I dined in. The meal, fish, Brussels sprouts, and whipped potatoes were worth the wait. It was accompanied by butternut squash soup-- yum! Truthfully speaking, the only way I'd be back is if I could be one of the first few to have an "official" parking space being there super early. Food price / quality rating 9.5. Very expensive, but you get what you pay for. Shared a Crispy Artichoke Heart appetizer. Excellent flavors and prepared beautifully on a bed of spinach and lemon and capers sauce. The wife had Crispy Orange Duck A large half duck, with Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. Prepared and presented beautifully. I had the Berkshire Pork chop with mango and mint. Wonderful balance of flavors, also prepared and beautifully presented. We both had a Grand Marnier souffle for dessert. A very large souffle was a nice surprise. The beer offerings were limited to two (Amstel and Beck's) and the wines by the glass were also very limited. Service was very good. The only negative was that I had reserved a table next to the fireplace weeks in advance, was assured that I would get that, and upon arrival was told that it had been given to another party, even though we arrived 10 minutes early. I booked the private room for my grandparents' 65th anniversary and don't regret it! The table was set and ready and there were fresh roses out and tea candle centerpieces as part of the decor. The servers were incredible! Our main server was so incredibly attentive to our needs. He even brought over my wine glass when he saw I moved to the other end of the table to chat with someone! Speaking of wine, we had a sultry red zinfandel and a merlot which were served properly and tasted amazing. For starters there was a fish pate, liver pate and butter with fresh bread. Then surprisingly most all of us (8/10) ordered the veal scallopinfor our entree which had a layer of prosciutto and gruyere cheese on it. There were also potato crisps and fresh veggies to accompany it. The two other people had the steak and also said it was delicious and cooked to perfection. Their menu items change so I'm not sure if the veal would necessarily be on there if you go but I would recommend it! Finally, the restaurant is apparently known for their soufflés and so of course everyone ordered those for dessert. The choices were cheese, grand mariner, chocolate or raspberry. Everyone was gushing over all of them and I especially loved the cheese one. As for seating options, there is an outside seating area (patio) and lovely dining room as well. Overall, the experience was flawless and most importantly my grandparents enjoyed their celebration. From the ambiance to the service to the food/wine I was thoroughly pleased and impressed! My wife and I, accompanied by our three adult children and daughter in law, came in for dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday. Everything about our dining experience was exceptional. I first came here about 16 years ago with my mother. I didn't really appreciate it much, being a bratty teen. While trying to find a restaurant for Mother's Day The Arch caught my eye. The menu looked good, so we figured we'd give it a shot and man, I'm so glad I did. Now, this place isn't friendly on your wallet, but the food is so worth it. Perfect for a special occasion. On Wednesdays they do some kind of prix-fixe dinner which was just under $60 for 3 courses, not a bad deal at all. I love that this restaurant keeps an old school vibe, though I will say I was the youngest diner easily by 25 years. It's a much older crowd, which is a bit upsetting that people my age (early 30s) aren't coming here. There's a dress code, and the chef comes around the dining room to greet guests which you don't see in more modern joints. The waiter we had said he'd been working there for 43 years. Clearly they're doing something right. Now, on to the food. Wine list could be better, but I'm not knocking a star off for that. Your meal starts with fresh bread and a side of butter and chicken liver pate with apple brandy and raisins. Makes me feel like I'm in Europe! The cheese souffle literally tastes like a fluffy cloud of incredibly savory cheese (must get!), and the escargot are simply delicious, garlicky and buttery. The salmon is rich with flavor, sweetbreads are rich and succulent, pork chop is sweet, fruity, and has tons of flavor packed in. Don't dare skimp out on dessert. Don't miss either appetizer Gruyere and cheddar soufflé (would have been banging with some lobster meat on the bottom) or order a dessert soufflé. Friendly staff. They aim to please. I enjoyed classic escargot, my husband a shrimp and scallop dish. Both were ok. My veal chop was just ok, a bit tough. The duck breast was ok, not the best we've had. Rack of lamb were thick chops, cooked to perfection. They offered the classic mint jelly on the side. Sides were ok, polenta and steamed young green beans and a little squash. When we first arrived we were asked for our drink orders. Generous martini but no one offered a wine list or a refill during dinner. Very slow service so you could enjoy the experience and you order the dessert soufflés when you order the entree. Italian bread and thin cracker like bread arrived along with a dish of chilled butter, pork pate and chicken pate. It's a pleasant restaurant but a bit dated. The chef greeted us "it was good to see us again" and we did an Agador Spartagus under our breaths, "...or for the first time..." In a word, Magnifique! This place has been here forever and yet for some reason this was our first visit. It will certainly not be our last. The formula here has been honed to perfection. The setting presents comfort, class and great character. The menu is old school French, not a scene for hipsters. (The typical patron still fondly remembers Maurice Chevalier.) This restaurant is exceptional!! We are very hard to please and if I'm writing this review you can be sure it's a special place. Have been going to the Arch for awhile and have never written a review. We went to the Arch for an anniversary dinner and our expectations were well met. The escargot and the foie gras appetizers were delicious and well prepared and presented. I should say that bread is delivered to the table - delicious and the accompaniments are wonderful. The wine list is varied enough to find an inexpensive bottle that is very good to an expensive one - the choice is the customer but the staff can ably assist. We chose the pork and elk steaks as our entrees. I devoured the elk as it was done as asked and equally delicious. My wife the pork and she raved about it. Desert was a shared chocolate moose. We have tried the soufflé in the past but we ate so much the soufflé seemed overkill - I can attest to how good it is. After dinner drink and coffee ended the night. We've been going to the Arch for special occasions for over 30 years. We never get tired of the ambiance, the food and the familiar faces of the wait Staff. Love that they removed the fixed price only menu and made it a la carte. The Beef Wellington Never disappoints. Their seasonal soups and menu changes are great but if you find yourself their on a night where the Beef Wellington us not on the menu don't fret, ask for it by special request and they will accommodate you most of the time. The bread and spreads can be a whole mean if you let it, yum but save room for dessert! And remember to order your soufflé when you are your main course. Each room if the cottage offers a different experience and in the summer you can have Sunday brunch outside. We had an amazing brunch today. The Arch took special precautions in seating us in a dining room away from other diners. They were cautious about taking all of the required precautions to address Covid concerns. This was a pleasant addition to a sumptuous meal of Lobster bisque, lobster/ crab meat cakes with perfectly done side dishes. For desert my wife had bananas foster and I had a delicious flourless chocolate cake with coconut cream . The Arch is a luxury dining experience with well trained wait staff and high quality offerings provided in a continental manner. We were dressed casually but it was not a casual dining experience. Went with some family on a Wednesday night. Aside from a table of two, we had the restaurant to ourselves. They only had one beer (Becks) which they served in a wine glass for some reason and the lights could have been dimmed a little, this is the extent of my complaints. The escargot I ordered for an appetizer was fabulous (very garlicy, just how I like it), the best in my, admittedly very limited, snail eating career. My main course was the beef wellington which was a special that night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The pastry was flakey but didnt fall apart on the fork. The steak was a well prepared if a little on the small side. My sister had a veal scallopini that was equally delicious. Overall a good experience. The waiter was a polite old school italian guy that came and swept crumbs off the table before desert. Pretty good french food, the best that you'll find in the hudson valley I'm sure. This is one of the few restaurants that I would send any one to without hesitation I have known the owner and chef since he opened in the late 70's. The food is always superb .. the service is absolutely amazing. The ambience is perfect and you are always greeted by lovely and caring manager and the chefs wife who is charming. Our dining experience at The Arch on a recent Friday night was very disappointing. We were a party of three and are rather sophisticated when it comes to fine dining. All three of us were extremely disappointed with our entrees although the appetizer course and desserts were good. The bread served was very ordinary French bread with a tasty spread and some awful hard crackers. Two of us started with squash soup which was excellent and one had a salad which was fine. The problems began with the entrees. Two of us had roast duck with mango sauce with very ordinary vegetables and mashed potatoes. The duck was overcooked, dry and tasteless. One of our group ordered a veal chop medium rare which was quite large. It too was sort of dry, flavorless and very disappointing. Dessert was one soufflé which was good and two apple tarts which were just OK. For a restaurant with the reputation of The Arch and the price level, it was a very disappointing meal. We've eaten here 5 times in the last 3 months and it only gets better! The food tastes wonderful, well composed dishes are the hallmark of The Arch. Additionally, you get a nice sized portion, when one might think in a French restaurant setting the entrees would be the size of appetizers that is not the case here! The cucumber soup, served chilled is so delicate and tasty (the secret is they add a small amount of sour cream) that they offer it all year long, YAY! I've had the 1/2 duck which is wonderfully prepared and well seasoned, crispy and delicious. I had the osso bucco last night and it was great, large piece of veal with a wonderful gravy served with polenta (the polenta could have been a bit more seasoned, it was slightly bland.) I've had the grilled 16 oz veal chop and it didn't disappoint, it was well cooked to my desired temperature and well seasoned. The fish entrees are always fresh and delicious. As an appetizer I've had the escargot, crab & lobster cake and seared baby scallops all have been fabulous. Oh yes, they always start you off with a basket of wonderful warm French bread accompanied by butter, and pate. The deserts are in the French tradition and have always been terrific. On occasion chef George Seitz will prepare a specialty desert with is mouth watering. The service is always "Top Shelf" the servers Alberto & Wayne are attentive, personable and welcoming, we've been made to feel like family and are always welcomed to the restaurant like I was visiting a close friend's home. Chef George Seitz will generally come to the table and check in, always making sure that we are having a truly spectacular experience. I've eaten there several times in the past, years ago, and always found everything to be excellent. The ambiance is wonderful and usually, everything I've ever ordered is delicious! However, we ate there yesterday and I was disappointed on more levels than one. Though we were seated promptly, it took them at least ten minutes to come over and offer us something to drink. Then it took another few minutes for us to get a menu (mine looked liked it had been through a lot - menu was crumpled in some areas and had a coffee stain or something across the whole bottom of it). I found this to be unnecessary since they clearly printed these on paper for the fixed price Mother's Day menu. Why didn't they just print another? Finally, when they took our order, the server was having difficulty keeping track and kept scribbling things out on the pad and asking us to repeat even though the menu couldn't be any more simple (there were few choices - our selections could have been memorized by a more experienced server). They were completely out of the filet of sole, which I found to be very disappointing and limiting since I didn't want to order one of the meat dishes (apparently many other diners before us didn't want the meat dishes either, which is probably why they ran out of the sole, but I'm speculating here). The first courses came out and boy were they tiny. We all ate more and more bread because now it was over an hour after our reservation/seating time and we still had no entree in front of us. Two people in our party had their glasses empty for about 10-12 minutes before anyone took notice - we also ran out of butter (twice). I was really disappointed in the lack of professionalism of the servers. Sure, they were somewhat friendly, but in a 5-star restaurant, you expect more. You shouldn't have to be looking around to get another drink when your glass has been empty. Also, I had them come to the table and remove plates and whatnot from our first course, and not even offer to refill the glasses. This is a big turn off. OK, let me focus on the food: first course, mine was delicious. Cream of cauliflower soup with apple garnish - different, and delicious. The entree was OK. I had linguine pesto with wild mushroom. Honestly, I couldn't taste any mushrooms at all in the dish. I think they forgot them. Dessert was apple crisp with vanilla ice cream on the side. Ice cream was good. Portion size was good, but the apples could have been a little more moist and definitely could have been served warmer. All in all, meal was OK, but I've had better. Our tab came to about 330 or something for four people ( that would be with gratuity). Price was $50 per person (not including beverage tab, I think we had about four glasses of wine total). read more
