Walking in we were immediately greeted, "You must be newbies! Regulars use the other door!" She added to the greeting with a chuckle and smile and told us to sit where we like. There were booths and high top tables, of which we chose the former. The interior is divey- cool decor. You can tell the place has probably been a staple for a really long time. The bar was huge! I'd like to go back sometime for a happy hour... Anyway, we ordered drinks which came quickly (I had an IPA "Rain" which was delicious). Our food orders went in and before we knew the food was in front of us. I had the Horseradish Burger and O Rings (o rings were a 1 dollar upcharge, and well worth it!). My date had a portobello mushroom wrap with fries. The meals were big and delicious! No complaints about the eats at all. The server kept our drinks full at all times, and was SUPER friendly. I have absolutely no problem saying I will be back to this hole in the wall to sit out side and look at the waterfall. What a great experience! read more

Awesome restaurant with a great variety of food for even a picky eater. I had the Ruben and fries which was delicious. The wife had the Chicken Marcella which she loved. Found this great spot hiding on a hill top in Carmel. Great family eatery!! A casual fun place with cold beer, nice cocktails, and great food. Place has charm and from what I hear they host so very cool events. The back patio complete with waterfall is absolutely adorable. Look, this is not fine dinning or anything fancy..it's a cool, come as you are type of place with friendly staff and nice clientele. A longtime Carmel restaurant/bar . The food is consistently good. Their winter soup menu is a hit with our family. The wait staff are attentive and go out of their way to accommodate my 98 year old mother in law . Whenever we don't feel like eating at home and want a good homemade meal Mc Carthy's is our favorite. They have updated the decor and it's a major upgrade. read more

They have a four seat table on the grass for patrons with dogs (we happened to have our dog with us) which is a great idea. I had the Chicken cordon bleu, which was a battered and fried breast, which wasn't all that good, and I only ate about a third of it. The wife had the Chicken Francese, and said it was pretty middle of the road. The service was good. The outdoor seating is mostly on a large deck, with a large elevated stage type of deck. There is a nice man-made waterfall in the rear of the property viewable from the deck. This place appears to be a great place to party outside during nice weather, and the prices are not bad. read more

Typical bar food. No specials. Cost is average. The food is not consistent. Sometimes dishes are less than appealing. Recently had a hamburger and it tasted like it was defrosted and frozen again. Not what one would expect from a neighborhood pub. The menu hasn't changed in years. So if you find something you like, you know it will always be available. The back room is less appealing than the front end of the pub. The whole place really needs to be updated. The outer perimeter of the back room has an old rug. Just don't look down and you'll spare your appetite. Overall it's an ok place to go for a drink and appetizer. If you're a regular don't expect a buy back, which is a little disappointing for a local pub. Like I said, it's ok, just wouldn't be my first choice. read more

Listen, you're not going here for fine dining. A place to hang out with the locals, have some bar food or a burger, enjoy the game or have a beer. Booths available, but have loved the big round tables when the whole family came, as conversation is much more enjoyable that way. Friendly and quick service. Comfortable for all ages. Nice place. Searching Google for a local place to go, I came across "McCarthy's Grill House" and it looked interesting enough to try. For some reason on Yelp it's "McCarthy Family Eatery" - so not sure which one it's supposed to be. Once inside, it looks like an old school bar and pub, but there's booths and another room with plenty of tables. The place has a nice feel. There's a pool table, an old school arcade game, and just a generally comfortable feel. The menus looked good, was varied enough, and most of the prices were reasonable. The waiter was friendly enough. They put out a bowl of chips and water upon sitting. Be careful not to eat too much of the chips, as they may fill you up before the actual food comes. I always order a bacon cheeseburger when I come to a new place simply because I like it and it's an easy dish, that if the place messes that up then I won't be looking to try anything else. I ordered the French Onion soup, which was good. My companion ordered the Lobster Bisque - which I tried a little of and it was very good. The burger itself was good and cooked correctly, though I wasn't a fan of the poppy seed roll used as a bun. A roll as a bun is fine, but perhaps a heads up that it's a poppy seed roll. I'm not a fan of poppy seeds at all, but it wasn't the end of the world. The fries were fine. There's outdoor seating for when the weather gets nicer. The parking lot is ok enough. It's up a long hill, so drive fast enough and you may miss the turn into this place. Overall a nice place and I would come here again for sure. read more

We drove past many times but finally stopped by- what a great place! McCarthy's is such a family spot- the owners and staff couldn't have been nicer to our toddler. The burger was great, as were the quesadilla and fried clams. And the backyard is a great place to hang in the summer. We'll be back! read more

Awesome experience and great food! I am new to Lake Carmel and was excited to find gluten free options nearby. The food has been great, and the experience even better. Coming from an urban neighborhood, I am used to using grubhub for all my deliveries. After placing an order through grubhub, I was called by McCarthy's and was told about several negative experiences. McCarthys offered to keep me posted if there were any issues and that they would do what they can, but hoped I understood the issues they have had in the past. Thankfully, all went well with my delivery, but the fact that McCarthy's took the time and was dedicated enough to call me ahead of time and offer to do what they could to ensure I had a positive experience floored me. I've certainly had my negative experiences with grubhub, so to know that an establishment was looking out for their customer was an unexpected and great surprise. Did I mention the food was great! Overall I thought this place was good. The staff was friendly and food tasted good. It definitely felt more like a bar than restaurant but that didn't bother me. Plus they have outside seating that is nice with a waterfall if you want to get away from the noise inside. Anyplace that starts you with homemade chips automatically gets 1 star. The other 3 stars are because of the food and service. Even though we were in the only diners for quite sometime in the back dining area, we never felt ignored and received attentive, but not overbearing service the entire meal. On Sunday's the have a $9.99 chicken special (it comes with salad, bread, pasta and your choice of a chicken entree from the menu). I opted for the Francese and it was really good. Adam ordered a burger (frizzled onions, horseradish sauce and onion rings) and said everything was really good. Prices couldn't have been beat, especially for the quality of food we received. Nice pub restaurant that sponsors Paint Nites from time to time. We usually get there a little early and grab a bite to eat. Food is your typical pub comfort food done well. Barmaids are really friendly and hustle to get you whatever you want. I would go more often, but this place is a distance from my home. But I do look forward to the Paint Nites there. read more

Friendly staff, a few interesting drafts on tap, and a very nice back patio area -- decorated especially for Halloween, which was so much fun on the weekend before the holiday! We didn't eat, but I spied on other patrons, and appetizers like nachos and wings looked on point. McCarthy's made for a great spot to enjoy a mild autumn evening, but I think that back patio would also be heavenly on a nice spring or summer day too. The decor gets an A+. Very nice atmosphere. The food is decent. Big portions. I got the penne alla vodka and it was good, I thought it could have been a little more saucy, but very good over all. Our salads were very yummy and I appreciated it coming with my entree. A tiny piece of bread but I liked that it wasn't huge or overwhelming. My boyfriend got the honey fried chicken with potato wedges and it was very good! We even had some left over for that night. I want to try the appetizers next time we will be returning. read more
