My friend has been telling me about this place so after wee checked out the amazing McGuckins Hardware, this is where we had planned to have dinner. My friend and I both had the #3 and #15 empanadas and both were great! But, i did not like their chimichurri, a little too lemony for me. We also got some alfajores and they were good (I am still trying to finish one of them - they are big!). The USA vs Paraguay FIFA match was on and there was lot of people in here watching. They had a screen projector TV and that worked out great! I'd definitely come back here again to watch soccer if I lived closer! Owner is very nice and this place has a great story! Messi T shirts also sold here and some merch too. They also have ready made empanadas to take home to warm up too! Love this place, so glad I got to try it out with my friends!

While I was there though I was not going to pass up the chance to get some empanadas but since I didn't come with an agenda I just told the guy behind the counter give me two choices of whatever you think is good. I appreciated when instead of questioning or getting confused or asking a follow up he just "you got it boss" and entered in the choices without thinking twice. I knew that he was a real one for this. I got my mate which they have on tap! On tap mate is dangerous but it was very delicious. They had two flavors one mixed with orange juice and one that was simply sweetened (not overly sweet at all. Less sweet than any yellow canned mate you might be thinking of). I tried both choices and the orange juice one was really good but after a full glass I felt a little weighed down. I can't remember the last time I drank that much orange juice. The food comes out and this is where my review is going to get unhelpful. I have no idea what either of these are called and honestly I don't need to know. The flavors were on point for both. One was a traditional seeming empanada with a ground beef mixture on the inside. Not spicy but the flavors were robust. The outer layer of the empanada was also flavorful but fell apart a bit from the heavy sog of beef filling. The taste was still great for all of it and it came with some kind of chimichurri adjacent sauce on the side that was maybe the best thing about the empanada. The second choice was less of an empanada and more of a tart or small pie? It had cheese and corn for the filling and was extremely gooey. Like more gooey than it had any right to be. I don't need to tell you that the combination of crust, cheese, and corn was delicious. If anything it was maybe a little too simple but I could eat that any day of the week and be happy. I got a wonderful table outside under some shade and gave my baby daughter some bites of the meat filling. She loved it. Left after drinking two more cups of the standard mate and felt amazing.

Despite the fact that it was completely dead, it took about 20 minutes to get two teeny, tiny empanadas. i was unsure if the guy was super unfriendly, didn't speak or understand english, didn't like his job, or a combo of the three. anyway, i opted for the ham & cheese & the chorizo, as all other options had onion - i am allergic to onion. rather disappointing, bc i wasn't (shockingly for me) in the mood for breakfast. the ham and cheese was amply filled and somewhat flavorful, but not great. the chorizo one was flavorful - it had a yummy spiciness to it, however it was lacking in the stuffing. i bit into it and it was only half-filled. for the price, you'd think they'd fill the darn things to capacity. the "shell/pocket" was disappointing in both taste and size - kinda tasted like a tortilla. nothing special. * size matters, people. don't let ANYONE tell you otherwise. pretty underwhelming and disappointing all around. service: 2/10 serving size: 1/10 taste: 3/10 i would not recommend - go to maria empanada instead.

Thanks to the big decal ("Empanada") on the front window that didn't escape my notice!! Good thing I was paying attention. This is a very small location. Even though I saw it, you can easily miss it. I truly hope that it's getting enough foot traffic. The young man upfront welcomed me. Upon entering, I was the only customer. He let me take my time to decide. I didn't feel rushed. I found my new favorite today: Chorizo Cheese and Egg. Had never had this flavor in the past as I had never seen it until today. Or is this a new flavor?? I pointed out to a tart looking sweet one in the glass showcase which the young man identified it as passion fruit tart. Sounded good. I settled on those two for to go. He, of course, put my savory in the oven toaster which he said would take about 5 minutes. He didn't put the savory and the sweet in the same container; he separated them. What a conscientious gesture! He saw me off with a warm/friendly smile with a pleasant "Thank you; have a good day!" After taking a few photos of the two, I immediately started savoring them. The Passion Fruit tart wasn't impressive and yet the right amount of sweetness tickled my sweet tooth to the touch. I wish I had tasted more passion fruit in it. The savory (chorizo/cheese/egg) however became my new favorite. Nice and gooey inside where the creaminess of the marinade can make a mess over your clothes if you are not careful. Lazo never fails to amaze me with the bestest ingredients and flavors no matter when. My perfect mid morning snack sent me to the next errand for the day. Much needed pick-me-up indeed!!
