I am very picky about ice cream. In general, I think every ice cream (almost) is good. Sort of like Pizza. But to be an elite ice cream place for me it needs to stand out in terms of the quality and flavor. Not all chocolate ice creams are created equal. Also, the place has to be clean and the price should be reasonable (in today's standards). Bottom line: Sweet Cow is officially in my top 4 Colorado ice cream places. Sweet Cow must be a local favorite, the line was out of the door! Fortunately, the staffs had the process down to a science, so the line moved surprisingly fast. We shared a few different flavors and my favorite was the oatmeal cookie. It had a subtle oatmeal cookie flavor that wasn't overly sweet, and the ice team itself was rich, milky and smooth. The runner up is the vegan Sherpa Chai. You can't really tell it's vegan based on the texture. The chai flavor was bold but well balanced. Sweet cow has absolutely nailed the flavor profiles for their ice cream. The flavors are so delicious and strong yet not overwhelming. I usually get the dairy free ice cream options and Sweet Cow has the magic recipe of making vegan ice cream have the same taste and texture as the regular ice cream. I got the vegan strawberry banana golden oreo in a pretzel cone and my husband got the raspberry oreo. The pretzel cone is a fun idea - it was a little tough to eat (I was also eating it outside in November at 8 pm at night and it was like 30 degrees out so that likely made an impact on it too). This was my first time tasting their products and this location is great for the entire family due to all the outdoor seating and area for your kids to run around and be safe, disclosure, we do not have kids but there were plenty and they were having a blast. When we walked up, there were only a few people in front of us which was great as it gave us time to study the menu. The team has their process down to make the line move right along. My wife had an Ozo Coffee milkshake and I had the Nutter Butter in a waffle cone. The ice cream has a good amount of cream in the recipe and is very smooth and the taste profile was spot on. We felt that what we paid was a very fair price for what we got. Some ice cream places are all hat no cattle, not this place, they have it figured out. Do yourself a favor and give this location a shot, you will not be disappointed. Now we need to go back to try a different flavor, or grab one of those ice cream cakes! read more

Sweet Cow is one of my favorite places for ice cream. What's great about Sweet Cow is that it's small-batch handcrafted ice cream. The ingredients are straightforward, and I love how they use local ingredients such as Hammond's Candies and Ozo Coffee for some of their flavors. They have several "staple" flavors that stay on the menu year-round, and rotational flavors such as Cinnamon Toast Crunch, which are only around until they run out. What got me hooked on Sweet Cow was their Lavender Honey flavor. I love anything lavender. This flavor is literally divine. I always look for it whenever I visit, but since it's a rotational flavor, I don't always get it. Which has made me branch out and try some of the other flavors they offer. Some of my favorites include Golden Grahams (can be seen in the photo I uploaded) and Coconut Cream Pie. I recently had a scoop of the Raspberry Chocolate Chip, and although it's good, the Raspberry flavor can become overwhelming. Lastly, I love how the shop is tucked into a cute little neighborhood. You might ask, why would we drive out to Louisville for Sweet Cow Ice Cream when our house is located halfway between the North Boulder and South Boulder locations. Well, the answer is, my husband is a fan of a flavor they only make about once a year. REALLY a fan! So I always check the locations for when it comes back in stock. It finally made the list of the Louisville store last night so he planned the drive for today, which we needed to relax anyway as we have spent the last 5 days planting a new garden area. We have never been to this, the original location and were pleased to see how large it is and how much seating they have there. Much bigger than either of the Boulder stores. As is standard for the company, everyone was incredibly helpful and the store very clean and busy even on a weekday right after opening. It appears that all of Boulder County is tuned to Sweet Cow. Another bonus for us, it is only a block from Moxie Bread which opens much earlier so we could make a stop there first. Both are in the cute original center of Louisville. And if you are wondering what his favorite flavor is, it is good old fashioned original chocolate chip! Not the newer "fancy flavors" like raspberry, or mint or chocolate-chocolate or peanut butter or Ozo Coffee. Plain will arrive in Boulder soon as the flavors rotate through the whole group. Okay okay, I see what the hype's all about. Sweet Cow has some damn good ice cream but it's at a "are you out your damn mind" price. I ordered a tiny scoop of the orange creamsicle. I was thinking for $3/4 (?) I'd get a single scoop. Nope. It was more like a tablespoon of ice cream in a shot glass haha! I only write reviews for 1 star and 5 star places. We've been here several times and loved almost every encounter. There was one time that is still stuck in my head to this day of a higher up berating an employee in front on a line of customers. Might be one of the least professional things I've witnessed. It appears that he no longer is in a position to do this to employees any longer. Although the ice cream is really tasty it's unfortunately not enough. When you buy a QUART you should get a quart for $15.00 dollars. When we got home and noticed that it wasn't packed, it literally would fit in a pint that's what we should have been charged. This place is high priced ice cream so we should get what we paid for. read more

The ice cream is great, and they always have a ton of great flavors. The only bad thing is that they often have a line. Which is a double edge sword because they have a line because their ice cream is good. So give yourself a little extra time during the warmer months to come in and grab an ice cream because there may be a line, but it's worth it so it's not a big deal. read more
