Absolutely disappointed and horrified with our experience this evening. At 5:15 we were seated at the bar; myself, two year old and family friend to the left of another family with a young boy. The bartender barely greeted us then scoffed at us sitting there making a ridiculous statement saying, "children can't sit here past 6pm, I mean 5pm" (it wasn't 6pm... what is it lady?? 5 or 6??). We ordered two dirty martinis and she didn't even give us time to order my sons soda before storming off and coming back forever later with no waters and just poorly made martinis. Of course my son protested wondering where his drink was and instead of getting something for him she loudly apologized to "regular" older couples at the bar for my family sitting there which made us incredibly uncomfortable. We ordered a bottle of $135 Cabernet from the bar back because she was the only one that came around, got us water, took our dinner orders, my son a soda in a children's cup, or gave any type of SERVICE. In fact, SHE was wonderful. Being born, raised and buying a home in Charlevoix it was a devastating experience especially because since their remodel they have Peri Peri Chicken on the menu and after spending time in South Africa it was exciting for me to find a local favorite in my home town. If you're a nice family I highly recommend Grey Gables. The food is better, the service is WONDERFUL, and they care about families there.. I'm always impressed. read more

This was our first visit to Argonne House. Having lived on the Gulf Coast for 20 years, we were skeptical about the quality of shrimp at a Northern Michigan restaurant. The steamed shrimp were excellent and on par with the best shrimp served on the Gulf. Every other aspect of our dinner was outstanding. We ordered the Ribeye and panko crusted walleye. Excellent. Even the coleslaw and bread were great. Service was attentive, prompt, and friendly. Would definitely return if we are in the area again. read more

Came back to try the "wood fired" pizza and Sat on the patio. Caesar was good. Pizza is made out of frozen dough then "wood fired". It doesn't work that way! You need fresh dough to make a real wood fired pizza. Of course dough was not cooked all the way thru which is the clue they aren't making in house. So what's the point. Twice and done. Other option in the area are better. read more

This was our second visit The food was excellent, but the noise level is too much. Service was terrible, 1/1/2 hours for food to come, bread and slaw took to long. Couldn't get the waitresses attention to order a second glass of wine with the food.Embarrassing when your the host for a table of six. read more

We love that Argonne takes rezzy's. So many restaurants in this area do not--so they get 1 star just for that! Our server was great, she was friendly and knowledgeable even though obviously very busy. There were abundant support staff as well, bussing, cleaning, etc. We were a party of 5. Our server brought bread at our request--so yummy with an almost corn bread texture served with whipped butter and olive oil. The shrimp cocktail was delicious--huge, ice cold shrimp perfectly cooked served with spicy cocktail sauce. It was expensive for 5 pieces of shrimp but no more so than other restaurants in the area. Pan fried local white fish was flavorful and fresh. The veggie of the day was Brussels sprouts and they were delicious! Roasted to perfection and possibly basted with butter. So good! I ordered the fried shrimp which had a light batter and thick tiger-style sauce. Crispy, creamy, cold coleslaw was a winner. Highly recommend. Now for the negatives...gloopy, salty brown sauce on the truffle fries. Would not order truffle nor plain fries again. The pizza was such a disappointment. Crust was under cooked and bland. Tomato sauce was thin and flavorless. It's hard to screw up melted cheese but somehow they did. No seasoning at all. It tasted like it came from Gordon food which is fine if you are buying it at Gordon Foods but not okay if you are paying $23 for it at the Argonne. Caesar salad ok--nothing special. Croutons right out of a bag...(too bad they don't make fresh croutons using the amazing bread they serve!). Blue cheese burger was mediocre. So 3 stars today but we will definitely go back and just stick to what we know they do so well. read more

5 open tables in the bar area and hostess refused to seat us saying they were reserved and there were no others waiting.

Dismal experience. Our server was slow, disinterested and completely inattentive. We ordered the cheesy bread as an appetizer which was disappointingly burnt and greasy. There were four of us at a really small table and our server just brought our entree's without clearing the dirty dishes from our appetizers. The dirty dishes just stayed piled up in the middle of the table until we gently suggested maybe she could take them away which was not well received at all. I ordered the house salad and added salmon. The middle of the salmon was completely raw and when we finally flagged down our server to let her know she was less than helpful nor apologetic. In fact she was completely disdainful and advised the best she could do was a free dessert or a $5 discount. We don't eat dessert so opted for the pathetic discount. The whole meal cost us $299 WITH the $5 discount. We won't be back. read more

We took friends from out of town this week end to The Argonne House, we shared a meaty pizza and the 16 shrimp, half fried and half steamed , they loved it, that's usually our favorite place to go over the week end, so we're happy they loved too, the service was great, the food outstanding , fresh coleslaw , tasty homemade bread, wonderful pizza and shrimp, enough for the four of us and left overs pieces of pizza for a dog bag, and be enjoyed again later . read more

In town for work, placed delivery with a sweet female voice. She said they had the best asparagus and strawberry shortcake. I Ordered the walleye which came with asparagus and ordered the shortcake for dessert. They were on time and everything was delicious the asparagus is the best I've ever had and the shortcake the same I will return best meal I've had in a long time and to top it off it was delivered with everything needed read more

At 64yo I have been dining at the Argonne for 55 years. Took my wife out for her birthday. The service is great and food is tasty. The shrimp however have shrunk. They are 1/4 to 1/2 the size they were historically and prices have gone up considerably. Tasted good but wow the amount of batter has increased. My wife had to peel off a large amount of batter before eating. This would be 5 stars but smaller shrimp, thick batter, higher prices, lower stars. read more

Wow. Been waiting for our food for an hour and 15 minutes. Tables seated after us have come and gone. Manager just came by and said she needed to "plate" a large table and then she would get our food. Um. Thank you? Still waiting 10 minutes more. Then, manager drops off our dinner and walks away. First time back since the new owners/remodel. Food was amazing. Everything from the homemade bread, to the famous shrimp and pizza... all so good! They also have a fantastic bar! AMAZING food and great service! The best food in Charlevoix. The pizza is so good. My family loves pretty much everything on the menu. Their patio is great. It has heaters which is great in the Fall and Spring, when you still have that outdoor itch. The ambience is wonderful. I haven't eaten indoors since their remodel because of COVID, but it looks beautiful, and I look forward to going here in the future. My only criticism is that it's not very vegetarian/vegan friendly; there are options but, like most nice restaurants, the menu is fairly small so the options are limited. If you want to go to have a classy dinner date in Charlevoix, this is only one of two acceptable options. I really appreciate that they deliver. It's a life saver. read more

The Argonne just reopened after an extensive remodel. I believe this restaurant has been here since 1924. The inside and outside has been updated and looks wonderful. The patio that sits under huge trees is quite large which makes for good social distancing. Our server was excellent. I think her name was Cindy. For old times sake I ordered the combo fried and steamed shrimp. It comes with fresh cooked green beans and a baked potato.It was fine. My husband ordered the white fish served in a Dijon lemon sauce. It is served with asparagus and a baked potato. Excellent! The meal starts out with cole slaw to pass and.. the best part, the most wonderful warm sliced bread I have had in a long time. We asked for refills. Did I say I liked the bread! Omg. Come for the bread and stay for a very nice dinner relaxing on the patio. Their pizzas and ribs looked good, too. No room for dessert but the lava cake sounded good. Now to try to duplicate the bread recipe till we are up north again. read more

We tried the Argonne House for the first time. The place is clean and fresh from the remodel. We had to make a reservation at 4:45 because that was all that was available until 8:00. Booked directly on their website, however, when we got there, the hostess couldn't find it but seated us anyways because it was not busy. As we sat for 1-1/2 hours enjoying our dinner, the restaurant never filled up. The shrimp cocktail was amazing - 6 very large pieces. I ordered the steamed shrimp and, on the recommendation of our server, the twice baked potato casserole. My husband tried to order the chicken parm but was told they didn't have it since they were in the process of changing the menu. He ordered the ribs instead, also with the casserole. My shrimp was very plain with no seasoning. The ribs were very tender with lots of sauce. Unfortunately, our server forgot/failed to tell us that the casserole is a $3 up charge which we did not see until the bill came (it wasn't even on the menu). We feel this was a very bad way to cheat the customer. read more
