Carlos the owner waited on us, he was a pleasure to meet! We sat on the patio and enjoyed Alaskan beer and some food from Burger Queen.... Honestly, the best place that we have stopped on our 7 day cruise. We are very big fans of local breweries and although they do not brew, they offer great selections at the best prices of regional craft brews. The food from next store was also fantastic. Carlos and his staff were amazing and we had a fantastic experience and couldn't recommend Asylum enough to everyone else. Yes, you can go crazy at The Asylum!! You know, they only serve Nuts there. Staff extremely friendly. When you get off your cruise ship, you can enjoy the free Wi Fi they have while sipping on great Alaskan Amber. they have super bloody mary's as well. This pub was better than an excursion! We were visiting Ketchikan, Alaska via the Crown Princess, which pulled up to the curb and let us off. We dallied around the souvenir shops, which are the best in Alaska. Then a quick walk to the end of the pier, across the street in search of some local Alaskan beer, and we found it. This place has local Alaskan craft beers, low happy hour prices, and free wifi. The owner was on scene, joking around and making us laugh, which really encouraged our party mood. We ran into a few friends from the ship and let loose, which was totally encouraged. But how much fun can several older ladies from a cruise ship have, you may ask? Let's just say we weren't driving back to the ship and a good time was had by all. A friendly place, with a mix of fun staff, cruise ship folks, and locals. Next time we'll check out the deck. Best bar on the entire Alaskan cruise circuit. Tap selections went far beyond the standard Coors, Bud, all the typical lite lagers, and the usual Alaska Brewing standards. This place had these but also a top notch selection of DIPA's and even a few exquisite dark and malty stouts and imperial porters. 30 taps listed and 30 taps pouring --not a single "empty" cup on any of the pulls. Clean, comfortable and gregarious place, populated by a fascinating collection of locals: fishermen, expatriots, seasonal residents, and a wonderfully congenial owner, Carlos. Had a blast and wish our time window had been a little wider. The Asylum is an absolute must stop for beer loving cruisers. read more

Cool plane with some outdoor areas both up and downstairs. Lots of craft beers on draught and borders a burger joint which serves to the table. Staff are some really friendly brothers from NYC who were super helpful and friendly. read more

So flew in to Ketchikan on the 4th of July and had time to kill before catching my ferry. Talked to some of the nicest locals and ended up at the asylum. Great view of the 4th of July parade and free food at the bar. The energy was positive and the locals were all nice. One even gave us a ride to the ferry landing at the other end of town. Also stopping to Purchas fishing license. Nice work asylum and great vibe. read more

Great little pub, good enough food from the Burger Queen next door. White Alaskan Beer was the bomb. Refugees from a cruise ship, we did the quick walk through the tunnel to get here and loved the feeling of local realness and homey comfort. Kinda longing for a little Asylum right now.... read more

Spent a wonderful afternoon at the Asylum after our excursion to Misty Fjords. Carlos is great, the atmosphere is welcoming and the ample selection craft beer is cold. They have seating outside as well as a nice loft inside. We sat across from the bar and had a great time. It is across the street from the Cruise ship so we could spend a little extra time with some new friends. I highly recommend it during your stay in Ketchikan read more

We visited on July 20th, 2015. I am a therapist and wanted to visit the Asylum for fun:) It was a great visit. The owner (I think his name was Carlos) was super nice and talked to me and my husband (who is in law enforcement) for a long time. He told us about what to see and do in the town. The bar is right by the piers where the cruise ships dock so it is a very good location and within easy walking distance to the other shops downtown. it was a great place to get out of the rain and just relax in a different setting. They sell a variety of Asylum T-shirts in a nice variety of colors and sizes. Don't miss it on your visit to Ketchikan! read more

Best bar in Alaska. Owner was very welcoming and talkative. Tons of beers on tap. Duckfarts were a big hit. One of the best things about Asylum is they have a menu for the burger joint next door and you can order from the bar and they will bring your food over to you. Amazing.
