We were on an Alaskan cruise in Ketchikan. While there, we asked a local where to eat and drink. SOOOOO, they pointed us to Asylum and Burger Queen. First of all, inexpensive craft beer was served, alongside some of the best burgers we've ever had. Expensive places can eat their hearts out. This place would be amazing if they were just honest with peoples orders. We arrived at 10:30, waited untill 11 to ask what is happening with our burger, and then they decide to tell us that they start to make them at 11am. What he didn't consider is that half of their customers work on the cruise ship and we have a specific time when we need to be back on board, so we actually didn't take our burgers in the end. I'm just posting this to make them a bit more mindful about their customers. read more

Three stars for the beer selection and price ($3.50). However, come on, would it hurt if you had some, any, bit of friendliness? (@bartender). That being said, we drank our beer, ate our fries (from next door) and happily moved along to he next place. Sure, the beers were .75 cents more, however, the vibe was positive- that is priceless. This review is a bit late. I first visited the Asylum back in September of 2018, when I, and some friends of mine, were on a cruise to Alaska. One of the port calls was Ketchikan. Our first stop was the Asylum, and we had a blast! the drinks were great, and we met the owner, Carlos. My friend, and I work for American Airlines, and we get an insane discount on other airlines, so we'll nonrev to Seattle, spend a few hours there, then take Alaska Airlines to Ketchikan, and spend a few days there, and will visit the Asylum every day. Holy crap! Five dollar pints with a gazillion different beers. Need I say more. We stopped here after biking around town and this little hole in the wall is a place that will forever live in our memories. We met the owner and he is a straight up NY guy who loves his Mets. I think we got lucky with the 80 degree sunny weather, but if I could spend the rest of my life on that patio like I did that day with family and friends, I would be in heaven. read more

This is a townie bar. A lot of TVs, jukebox, etc. They have good beers on tap, both local, craft, and macro. I could tell I was the only out of towner but that didn't bother the clientele or the bartenders. Everyone was nice and either started conversations or was willing to have one. The patio seemed to be under construction but could be a nice place to spend an afternoon. I would recommend this to anyone willing to meet the locals and have a few good beers. read more

Excellent little pub right across from the cruise docks. We did not partake of the burgers supplied from the Burger Queen next door, but only heard positive comments from those that did. Beer Prices appear to be below cost, hence the asylum name. But they probably make it up with the awesome t-shirts they sell. read more

As of Sept 2019, it was $3.50 for a pint of domestic craft (!!!). It was was a very warm day and I had a Alaskan White Ale - poured generously into a very chilled glass by the friendly gal behind the bar. This was heavenly, given that it was fresh from a tap at half the price of a bottle on board my cruise ship. My wife and I had the chance to stop here for lunch while our cruise ship made port in Ketchikan (Via the Emerald Princess). I read on google Asylum had a wide selection of craft beers on tap and I must say I was very impressed! They had a good amount of pale ales and IPAs to choose from (my favs) and they are next door to Burger Queen, a local hand crafted burger joint. I'm incredibly fond of a good burger and they had one the best I've had in a long time. I strongly Reccomended the BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger. Also, if you know anything about Checker's Fries, imagine them crispier and tastier! If you're looking for a great craft beer, Big Mountain Pale Ale and Husky IPA are two Alaskan brews that hit the spot. It's hard to experience good craft beer on a cruise, so this place checked the boxes! I had the opportunity to speak with the pub's owner and he's a pretty great guy. He definitely puts his customers first and takes care of his employees. I hope the best for Asylum and certainly reccomended it to anyone passing through the area! read more

What an amazing stop on our cruise tour. We came in because of the free pint glass offer in the coupon book and was treated to the owners Carlos and Danielle's cheerful banter and ciarra's quick wit and drink serving. Today they finished installing their new taps bringing their total up to 27! They seem be a great variety of craft beers with many being local Alaskan Brewery. I think they have the highest number of taps in Ketchikan! I love the easy way they accepted a couple of tourists into their home. The locals were ready to chat with us (one is from hubby's home town.) Make sure when you stop to visit this port filled with tee shirt shops and jewelry stores you go through the tunnel and visit this local gem. Honestly, this was my favorite stop on the whole cruise! read more

I liked this joint. The beer is prob the cheapest in town, $3.50 / pint! And it tastes good too. Carlos, the owner, must keep his taps clean. As opposed to Jeremiah's in the Best Western, not only is the beer 60% more expensive, but it tastes like crap. I had the same beer, Alaskan Black IPA, which was awesome at The Asylum, and 15 min later, at Jeremiah's the same tasted like really awful! At the Asylum, Carlos or his wife will get you food delivered from the Burger Queen, next door. I had wings and fries. Both were great. Their wings are dry but quite spicy! read more

Cool little bar! It was a slow night when I went in so I got to chat with the bartender. She was super nice, can't remember her name for the life of me. I had just recently turned 21 so I asked her what drink she would recommend, she asked me if I had ever had a slow comfortable screw up against the wall. I can only attest to the beers, beer prices, and staff--all were excellent. At $3.50 for a true pint for all 14 micro-brew taps, these were the lowest beer prices I'd found in Alaska. There was free wi-fi, and the access code was cordially given to every person who asked, regardless of purchases. The servers were friendly, helpful, and not pitching products or humping to boost revenue. I can't speak for the food, but the price-points seemed right for dive-bar grub. read more

Where else can you get a cheap beer in Alaska, and good beer too. There are plenty of local beers and well as domestic and international. So impressed the selection I could not decide. The bartender actually suggested mixing two beers, a sour raspberry with the Alaskan white, to make the perfect fruity light beer for me. We stopped in Asylum early in the day and really loved the place. The employees were friendly and personable and the beer as well as full liquor bar selection was impressive. Later in the day Asylum is pretty popular with tourists and locals too. If it was not raining during our visit, as it does so often in Ketchikan, we would have enjoyed the courtyard and stayed longer. Because of smoking at the bar, specifically the cigar smoke, the inside downstairs got too stuffy to stick around too long. Overall a fun place to stop in for a drink and a must stop for a good bar in Ketchikan. read more
