Scheduled an appointment with Atypical after my car wouldn't start. The mechanic was able to quickly diagnose the issue, and told me what it would cost. He also helped me understand the issue and even suggested I talk to a dealership to see if the repair would be covered by them. Not once did I feel pressured to continue the repair with Atypical, and the tech really did have my best interest in mind. ATypical Mechanics are incredible, I was struggling with the check engine light on my car over the past few years, 3 different mechanics went through and tried to fix it but the check engine light always came back on. I spoke to Jeremy a few weeks ago about a Tiguan 2009 I was considering buying and asked for his opinion about the timing chain and the problems I ha been reading about this part of the engine. He told me he had a customer that had that car and whose engine broke because the tensioner failed. He is the ONLY mechanic who was able to give me a straight answer. I also asked him how much replacing a timing belt on a Golf GTI would cost, and his price was literally a third of what I was charged at another mechanic. While he has not yet worked on my car (4runner), I feel I've hit the jackpot with Jeremy as a mechanic. So do yourself a favor and choose him as your mechanic; you'll save yourself a lot of money and bs that you would get from most mechanics. read more

I cannot recommend this car service enough. I was able to easily schedule an appointment online and describe my car issues. A serviceman and the owner both showed up to work on my car. They wore masks and gloves the entire time and were very professional. After a little over an hour they figured out the issue with my car and the owner showed me some information on his iPad including prices from places he could get the part. Once we decided where, he personally went to pick up the part while the other serviceman stayed on site and continued cleaning and working on my car. Within two hours I was fixed up and ready to go. A couple days later, someone from their office reached back out to me to see how my car was running, just to make sure all was still ok. And last week, MONTHS later, they reached out AGAIN just to make sure I was still not having any car issues, which I am not, and I have had zero issues since they fixed my car. This is customer service above and beyond, and I will definitely be using The Atypical Mechanic in the future if I need it. They cleaned and sanitized my car and keys before handing them back to me. Plus I love the ease and comfort of them coming straight to my house and leaving the uncomfortable situation of being a lady at the auto shop off the table. I never felt like they were treating me like I didn't know anything. When he left to get the part, I quickly did some research online and found that they were charging me almost the lowest amount they could for the job they did, so I was very pleased with the price of the service too! Called to see if someone could come out to just change my spark plugs. The fella that answered the phone took my specs and promised to call me back with an estimate. He did this, and quoted me some NGK iridium spark plugs for my car which were around 20 bucks (I found them for much cheaper, they were obviously trying to mark them up) when I offered to get my own, they said they wouldn't do i as I only could buy from them...really??? Jeremy is my hero! My alternator died in the MIDDLE of the intersection of 45th and Medical Parkway. Jeremy brought me a new battery and then replaced my alternator where my car was parked behind Taco Shack!! The second time I called Jeremy was because my car wouldn't start in my garage because my battery was dead (the battery Jeremy bought me above). My boyfriend used The Atypical Mechanic a few years ago and was super pleased. So a few weeks ago when my car wouldn't start (or jump, or anything), we contacted them. He showed up on time for the appointment, finished quickly, and his rates seemed lower than "typical" mechanics. He replaced the starter and my car was up and running again - woo hoo! From now on, I'm just going to call him when I have an issue. Super convenient, super reasonably priced - an overall great experience (which is saying a lot when dealing with a broke down car). We have used 'The Atypical Mechanic' three times now, and I kept meaning to write a review... so here it is! The first time our 1999 Ford Explorer Sport had a short in the battery or something which was stopping the car from starting. We called these guys and they came out, in the middle of a raging thunderstorm, quickly sourced the problem and fixed it for a fraction of what we expected to have to pay. Following this some time later, the thermostat in the truck gave up and once again we called 'The Atypical Mechanic' to come to the rescue. They fixed the thermostat, changed the oil and gave the car a once over and had her running smoothly again. Just now I've had them come again to do another oil change and fix a rear brake light that was out and as usual they do a great job, are very friendly and knowledgeable and surprisingly quick as well! This is the second time I've had The Atypical Mechanic work on a vechicle. Both times the work performed was excellent. About a month ago I needed brake work done. The front brakes were noisy. One rotor definitely needed replacement. I was informed of the condition of the front and rear brakes, what should be replaced now and what could wait. They found a worn wheel bearing on the rear. I was advised it could be fixed now, but wasn't so worn it had to be. All the work was completed in a few hours and the price was very reasonable. They also fixed up the front passenger wheel well splash guard for no charge. I will definitely call The Atypical Mechanic next time I need car repairs. read more

These guys are AWESOME! I have used them multiple times and they are always fast and fair! These are very rare qualities in Mechanics. One specific instance I want to tell you about. The starter died on my car. I called Jeremy and he was out that afternoon. He replaced the starter while my car was in my driveway (I did not have to get it towed anywhere!). The next day the started shorted out and died. I called Jeremy and he was out there very quickly, replaced the defective starter without any question. His prices are in line with other shops that don't have the level of service that he does. read more

Jeremy saved me a bit more then $750. He's my guy for as long as I own a car and live in Austin. I was told I need a new power steering rack for my car by a local garage. Called around to other garages and was told they need to see the car before giving me a ballpark price. No bueno. Jeremy gave me a ballpark of half what I would have paid, with no guarantee but hey even if he tacked on another $100 I would have been happy. Long story short Jeremy shows up on a Saturday morning (awesome, I work all through the week) looks at my car for a couple of hours, explains what's going on, and tells me to put my money in new tires (needed them anyway) and charges me $100 dollars. Dude tightened gaskets, topped off power steering fluid, and rotated my tires. Crazy. TLDR; Jeremy is going to save you money, use him. I'm telling everyone. read more

I called on a recommendation and he was nice and prompt (same day). After testing a couple of possibilities, he identified the problem as a more major issue. He gave me a rough estimate, said he ordered the parts, and would call to schedule a time to complete the repairs before I moved out of state (about a week and a half later). Then, he never called. If the repairs were out of his wheelhouse from a mobile van or he was just too busy to do the work, he could have just said so and recommended another place and of course explained to me what was wrong so I could let the next mechanic know. read more

Today I found out my wife's car drive belt was fraying and needed to be replaced. Just another happy customer here. Adam was my mechanic and did a fabulous job. He communicated well, letting me know if/when he was late and when he could arrive (I had all day off, so I didn't care when they showed up). He was kind and courteous, seemed knowledgable from what a young girl could tell. He also didn't make me feel like a silly girl who has no idea what's wrong with my car. I had just taken my car into NTB to see what they thought. NTB told me a whole bunch of things were wrong with it and that'd it cost around $1000 to fix.
