I always enjoy coming here but I usually avoid this place on the weekends, especially after 10 PM. It's gets really crowded and LOUD around that time. The dub is what it is and its a rowdy Irish Pub by night and a place to dip in for abeer and sandwhich at lunch. A classic watering hole for the service industry folks and a den for some females to galavant in search of conquest. I have come here since it first opened and continue to so. It was unfortunate we came when we did...about 5 minutes before the convention center got let out. When we walked in for lunch, there was no one there. After our drinks were brought to us, the restaurant got packed to capacity. Therefore the service was very lacking. When the waitress brought our food, she asked me if I wanted malt vinegar for my fish & chips. I said yes, but she failed to bring it. She didn't check on us once, not even to refill our drinks. If I wasn't having such a good conversation with my friend Les, I would have let the experience bother me. So the Auld Dubliner caught me on a good day. The fish & chips...eh...I've had better. The texture of the fish was good...batter was not too oily...but it just didn't have any flavor. The homemade tartar sauce was good. And the fries too. Les enjoyed his Pub burger. Portions are well worth the price. There's also a bar inside. The high top tables outside are good if you like to people watch while you eat. I felt like I was in Ireland when I stepped in. Not that I've been but this is what I would envision. Wood furnishings, soccer matches on the tube, Guinness posters all over, Jameson specials ....... Had the Shepard's pie boxty's lunch special with fried potatoes in wing sauce (I don't remember the exact name). Very good. The mash potatoes on top of vegetables was delish. Fried potatoes was fried crisp with ample amount of wing sauce. Not too much to make the potatoes mushy but just right to make the potatoes kick. Came back at night for the Jameson specials. Came upon this small Irish pub walking around the pier and glad I did because they have some great beer choices and HALF pints as an option! I ordered their blackened ahi taco and it was absolutely delicious. The cilantro pepito dressing made it from being too dry. Not too much, just simple. I asked for spice and they put some habanero shavings on the side which was the perfect spice. In addition, I also ordered the corned beef sandwich. (Minus the Apple onion relish). The bread was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Good meat to bread proportion and a delicious horseradish mustard. (Only downside is no regular mustard). The bartender Jeff here is amazing! I used to frequent this place quite a lot when I worked nearby. I miss it! The good: sausage rolls, boxtys, and filet mignon. One of the few that pours a great pint of Smithwicks, hard to find in these parts! Pretty great food really and a good selection of whiskeys ( i recommend the Tullamore Dew) I always experienced good service here, but I went at lunch time and not on a friday/ saturday night. read more

This place is self seating. They have a perfectly poured Guinness. It was the best Guinness I've ever had. It just tasted better than other places. I don't know if it was the Irish music playing or the pub vibe, but it was. The fish and chips were excellent. Crispy and delicious. They have happy hour. Oh, and the tater tots are awesome too. Well, Vincent, they heard you!! When i was there yesterday afternoon / evening, it was FULL of smoke. Ohmygod, I was coughing and hacking all the way home. They were standing outside in droves, puffing away and with the wind blowing INto the pub, all of us were DRENCHED in smoke. YUCKO!!! That is my biggest complaint. The music was TERRIFIC!! There was this little band there playing all this country Irish stuff and the place was full of "normal" people enjoying that band - moms, dads, kids even, plus other regular adults. Very pleasant - I don't usually go to places like this because i don't like drunks. I only saw one. The food was decent - not great. The onion rings - not fried in a batter - were awesome! The hot wings were hot but not special. The boxty thing was ok - it's like a pita made out of potatoes. The corned beef sandwich did not offend but wasn't special. They had Stella on tap. I would have liked it better had it been colder but it was ok. The waitress, Stella, did a great job handling every single table / customer in the place. The bartender was useless if not rude. So if you're in the mood for some good music, decent food, ok beer and depending on which way the wind is blowing (how Irish!) lots of smoke... check it out!!! read more

Latest experience: me and my buddy sat out on the patio. The bartender said he'd send out a server. Server comes out, walks right past us--despite eye contact--and serves another party who arrived after we did. We wait a little longer, give her a second chance but we remain invisible. Yes, we were very well-behaved. No, it wasn't busy at all (in fact, two servers were seen in our line of sight chit-chatting). After we give up and get our beer directly from the bartender...whoa, it's a miracle! She notices us! "Can I get you guys a menu? (etc)" Um, no, you're not worth my tip money. Fail. Then this drunk cougar comes out of nowhere and sits by us, threatens via gestures to light up a cigarette (and never does) and goes on and on about her crappy job and how it's her birthday. Exit, stage left. Saving grace: a cute girl at the bar who arrived via ten-speed. Cute girls who drink beer and ride bicycles are awesome. read more

Let me just say that there is something about pubs...the dark wood, the antique pictures of patrons past, and the anticipation of foot stomping music, that lets one know they are about to have an excellent time! This past Saturday evening I headed to the Dubliner with some of my favorite people in the world, and that is just what we had! We started with the basics - an Irish car bomb of course! Followed by Fish & Chips (their chips have a hint of curry on them which makes them delicious and memorable). Proceeded by several beers (great selection), and an Irish kiss! For those of you who don't like shots that are too sweet but cant deal with the burning... try one!! Its refreshing! The vibe was awesome... energetic but totally chill. Why the eff is smoking allowed (and encouraged, even, by the installation of ashtrays) on the patio??? 85% of Long Beach does not smoke (City of LB website) and smoking inside restaurants is BANNED in California. Dubliner's door is always open to its patio, so the patrons smoking a foot outside the door might as well be smoking inside! We ate here on a balmy afternoon a few days ago and our meal was completely spoiled by a long stream of people enjoying their cigarettes right next to our table. It's disgusting and rude. I might visit again for a drink inside but will never again stop just for food. There are plenty of establishments in downtown LB that have banned smoking in their outdoor dining areas that I will patronize instead. read more

Just about as close as you can get to a proper Irish pub this far west of Dunmore Head. Guinness is consistently poured well and at a good temperature. Good selection of Scotch whisky & Irish whiskey. Full Irish Breakfast is just as you would get back in any of the 29 counties. The Lamb Curry is grand. Good selection of pub grub all around. The live Trad Music is brilliant, along with many of the regular, revolving bands. During the week, this place is a home away from home, minus the turf fire of course. Needless to say, if you see the double-decker idiot bus (sometimes two or three) straddling the entrance, find somewhere else to belly up. At least for the hour or so that the foolish masses drunkenly swarm the bar like giant booze-crazed locusts. They turn the whole place upside-down, whether you've had that many pints or not. But hey, if you like being shoved over in your seat by crowds of out-of-towners yelling "WOOOOO" every time they slam an Irish car bomb -- there you have it. My one request: Instead of playing the worst successes of the 90's playlist, how about a little Irish Folk/Country piped in to the speakers? It is an Irish pub, no? Maybe some streaming RTE Radio? I went in with high expectations, but I left disappointed. This place is in a great location, but it falls short in other areas. The bar is arranged in an odd manner. The building is essentially divided into quadrants. You can only see a small piece of the bar from any spot in the place. This is disappointing to people that enjoy people watching. The service was ok. I hate having to flag someone down to get another drink, but they were at least friendly when I did get their attention. An odd group of people hang out here. Let me make sure everyone understands, you are not all Irish. Stop the charade. We all know that at best you are 5% Irish. I sayyyy 3 and a half stars, even though I'm feeling really bitter that not one guy approached me last night! Maybe everyone thought my roommate and I were lesbians since it's gay pride weekend. Bitter! I've been a couple times before last night (one night was st. pattys day) and it seems to be hit or miss when it comes to how crowded this place is.. or maybe that's just because the other times I went were during the week. First part of the review=Food! I have been eyeing the menu at this place since I moved to Long Beach, but since I am a broke, unpaid intern the prices scared me away. Since I just found out I am going to be starting my career as an aquarist, I decided to go out to the Dubliner to celebrate and try their food. I still think it's overpriced but the food was VERY good. I got the half soup and sandwich- potato leek and corned beef sandwich. Ohhh my god it was great! I still think it was overpriced but it was definitely tasty. I loved loved loved the apple onion relish on the sandwich. My roommate got a bowl of the soup and Irish Brown Bread. She went abroad to Ireland and had been craving the brown bread, but this did not live up to her expectations at all. For 3 bucks she only got a few little pieces already buttered- she was expecting a loaf like they give in Ireland, and it wasn't even that great. However, her soup was a great value... $6 for the most gigantic bowl of soup I've seen in my life. Second part of the review= Bar and Nightlife. First of all I can't believe they have a live band EVERY SINGLE night. Pretty awesome. As I said, I'm bitter about my experience last night, but at least the band was decent. But WAY too loud. I like loud music but not to the point where you're waiting to talk until they are in between songs. Turn it down a little bit please? The last time I came here was for my friends birthday so we came on a wednesday. It was DEAD and while I don't really remember a lot from this night (oops.. thanks old buddy Patron..) I know the band was kind of blah. And I guess some foreign guys bought us some shots.. er.... yeah. St. Patricks day was a LOT of fun here. My only regret was that I was still wearing my work uniform cause we never planned on going to the pub straight after work. I know I was so attractive in my blue polo /wink Anyway, an all around good place. I still haven't found anywhere to compare to downtown Santa Barbara though. Had the best time! Came here spontaneously with a friend of mine for an after-dinner drink. Didn't know what to expect. Walked in and there was such an amazing vibe. This local bar is probably one of my favorites now. Ordered a couple midori sours & an adios to share - delicious! We just happened to go on a night when the local band Pinheads were performing! First time hearing them, and they were so amazing! The locals were also so friendly. This stranger invited me and my friend to sit down and just started telling us about the band and how great they were. Everyone was dancing and having a great time. Maybe I came on an amazing night (or maybe I was buzzed) - whatever it was, I loved it. I'm coming back sooooon!! read more

Worst service EVER! First, when we arrived around 11:35 to a fairly empty restaurant. It took almost 20 mintues for a server to come by and ask if we'd been helped. We placed our order with her. She did apologize for the "miscommunication," although I'm not sure who miscommunicated. Our food finally arrived about 15 minutes later, and my fries were cold and the other food was barely warm. I asked for fresh fries and it took another 15 minutes. The fries were spongy and flavorless. The curry fish sandwich was good, but not worth the cost. We love Irish pubs, but not this one. The beers were not expensive, a pint of Guinness goes for less than $6. My party of 8 was there at around 8:15 p.m. on a Friday night, it wasnt busy and the service was good. The waitress was attentive, we didn't have to go find her to order things like at other places. The Dubliner is a great place to eat, drink and be merry. They have a good selection of beers. Went twice and enjoyed every minute there. I Ithink it was because of the world cup but even if it wasn't, it was still good times. Cool people and the ambiance seems pretty close to that of a bar that is mimicking and Irish pub. Ha ha. Good times. You have to go at least once. The only thing that it needed was better access to a TV watching spot. read more

I drove to LB to specifically to watch the English FA cup final. Pretty big deal as it was on (broadcast Fox over hear in the States). The experience left me wishing I'd never left the house. We arrived pretty early, but the waitress seemed overwhelmed by her 3-6 tables of patrons. She then told us that the sandwich which stated on the menu as: "with irish bacon" did not come with the bacon. The waitress stated, "well, it's not that way on the computer...".Oh...sorry. So, it was a separate charge. Weird. The waitress was reasonably polite, but not really up to it this morning. We ordered pancakes and a breakfast sandwich. Both were actually pretty tasty. The eggs on the sandwich were cooked perfectly. The side fruit w/ the pancakes was horrible, but what can you do if it is not in season? They have HP sauce on the tables, which is legit. The male bartender (forgot to ask his name) turned on the event and even turned up the sound a bit. Very nice. The problem came when the satellite system started cutting out the signal. It quickly became unwatchable. The bartender was incredibly polite and apologized about the problem. He indicated it had been happening for several weeks, but the satellite company had not sent someone out to fix it. Sounds like someone needs to pick up a phone. I would restate that the bartender was extremely polite with zero attitude and did everything he could do. It's sad because I drove a long distance to go to a place that would show a big soccer match (i.e. a so-called "pub") and there was no real effort to have this ready to go? What would you think if if going to a normal sports bar for the Superbowl or NBA final and no one had bothered to fix the TV? Anyway, the second half ended up being historically good, with a last second winning goal by the giant underdog to take the trophy! All of which I missed driving home because I was stymied by the lousy satellite system at the Auld Dubliner! Now I have to wait another year for a FA Cup final! One last experience was that my pregnant wife went for a walk around the block, so I picked up her purse and left to go meet with her. Passing the patio, one of the patrons asked laughing: "Is that your purse? haha" ....he then turns to his buddy and says "you know, this IS Long Beach"... what a douche. This is not the restaurant's fault, but you may want to know this is the clientele you may be dining or drinking with.... So in summery: Food= good Service=OK to good Experience = horrible. We used to live literally right around the corner from here, so it was a natural when it came down to choosing a place where all could drink and no one had to drive. I really enjoyed this place and really miss it. Admittedly, I've never been here for a real meal (although we've dabbled in some of the other 'bar food'), but otherwise, this place is great. Really low-key, kick back, and down-to-earth atmosphere. The servers are great, the bartenders are awesome and their drinks are nice & strong... did you hear me.. I said the drinks were STRONG! ;) It's a mix... some locals, some not. We've met some waitresses/ servers who just got off their shift here, we've met out-of-towners here... regardless, it's always a nice mix of people! I have mixed feelings about this place. I was there on two sequential evenings last weekend and had two very different experiences. Evening one: Initial thought was, how good could a pub in a (essentially) shopping mall be? It wasn't bad. There was live music, the place was packed and the beers were, well, beery and lovely. Evening two: fish and chips at the bar with several pints....then some obnoxious locals came in, started downing shots (Sunday night? Shots?) and generally making a ruckus. I talked to one of the server-girls and she was equally annoyed, relaying that this was *not* normal. Bottom line: For a shopping-mall-irish-pub, this place is pretty damn okay in my book. Hmm.. I kinda like The Auld Dubliner! Came here with girl friends on a Friday night. At first, I was skeptical. The bars next door have a lot more people traffic, while The Auld Dubliner was just a quiet pub with a more subdued crowd. We, a group of 5 girls, found a table in the corner, and sat down. Perfect view of Laker's game and quiet enough to chat it up. I ordered the cidar for $6 - my new default in pubs and bars because it's a nice in-between of manly beer and hard liquor. The cidar was decent. I'm not good at describing drinks or differentiating between them. I know that I liked it, but didn't love it. Around 10 or so, a band started playing random songs. My favorite was a crazy fun Irish song complete with fiddle. Definitely felt like I was in Dublin with my cup o'beer and pot o'gold. Call me Phoebe O'Hannigan! Overall, the pub is a great place to catch up with friends (and actually hear them) whilst downing some beers. It's more chill and laid back, but the crowd gets into sports games and music as well. Hubby and I went here for our Anniversary lunch. The staff was extremely friendly, and the place was so cute! The food was delicious! We loved everything about it. I don't get it. Two friends and I ate here following their strong recommendation. First, the front doors (to the patio, which is on the street) were open on a very chilly night. No big deal, except the cigarette smoke came blowing on in and permeated the restaurant. Strike one. Second, the waitress was at best indifferent and at worst, stoned and indifferent. We had empty glasses for a long time before seeing her again. Third, the food.... bleh. I ordered the vegetable boxty, and it was.... flavorless and greasy. Stuffed with slightly undercooked vegetables, including zucchini (king of the flavorless vegetables), carrots, and broccoli. It reminded me of leftover vegetables at a hotel restaurant. The boxty itself was rather like a potato omelet, and similarly greasy and unseasoned. The atmospere of the place was sterile and forced. This is the 2nd stop on the Big Red Bus pub crawl tour. This Irish pub is located in the Long Beach pike and seems to be the place for people who love Guinness! There are various Guinness photos around the seemingly full-stocked bar. The bartender was ok but didn't do anything spectacular to enhance my visit. Because I was on a pub bus crawl, I didn't spent a significant amount of time here but based on this initial experience, I doubt that I'd return. read more

A reasonable pub, drinks were pretty good, food is regular pub fare. Service was efficient, if not terribly nice.

The atmosphere is fantastic. I have the Irish curry chips and a string of Guinness blonde ale. Watching the traffic stroll by in front of the pub as well as the small commotion inside made for a great setting. The service was great even when it was crowded and the girls were backed up with orders , they still managed to bring everything without being reminded. I love me the Irish! While this place doesnt compare to the pubs I visited in Ireland it still cute enough to remind me of some awesome Irish adventures I had. I wish WISH wish someone would import Killkenny beer but a black and tan do for now. The only place around town that I've found those lovely curry chips.
