The draw for this place on this Sunday afternoon was their music band: Rayford Bros. I took a video of one the members singing Pretty Woman Walking down the Block. Hard to believe but I have never seen the flick, and I have never really heard the song. But both were familiar because how can one not know Pretty Woman in song and movie, unless they are a newborn or a not too old infant. So it was cool hearing music that I was familiar with. Because if it was a Guns and Roses or My Chemical Romance my ear would have not been able to name that tune, and I think that would have not permitted me from having a good time. I took care to take a picture of their calendar, that was outside in the patio, to ensure that they had a record to consult if they wanted to hear the warbling of the Tres Hombres that are next on deck. The music, though, it created an environment that rocked with joy and crowd. There was a couple-- octogenerians, I think. With all due respect to them, they were in their sunset years, but, if I get to be old like them, I would consider my life worth its billion steps. This couple were dressed like 50's inspired rockers. They were dancing, setting the patio floor ablaze. The woman tried to jump on the arms of the gray-haired rocker to do that move where she swings from one side to the other, while her legs kick the air. She jumped. But there was no kicking or swinging. But she jumped. That kind of movement on the dance floor is the meaning of dance like no one is watching all while knowing that an audience is present watching the blind dance! The crowd formed outside due to the music. A mom and dad danced with their kid. They could have held a different story but I went with what I assumed to be traditional because there were was enough visual evidence that they were a tranditional man-wife-kid couple. The dog was missng. I wanted to sit in the patio. There were no open tables. I asked a solo diner if me and my friend Conrad could share his talbe and he said yes. A small act of kindness that made my day better. The drink and food was also all worthy of gold stars. I approached the bartender and apparently one has to order food and drink from him I told him my spirit of choice and the fact that I liked sweet drinks. He concocted me a menu item--- a cucumber watermelon mixture, I think that was super great and refreshing! Which was nice because this particular restaurant sits by the water. So a breezy drink seemed more appropriate for the envirnonment. The stranger who we sat with, shared his mozzarella sticks with us. Superb. They were perfectly browned and not like a cylender shape more like a three-dimensional design. I had their loaded tate tots and they were garbage food in the best possible way. The fried goodness of the top had all these layers of flavor--- cream, mustard, chives. And then once topped with pastrami that was thick and cut all super well it became fit for Oscar the Grouch. I think that is the sesame Character that lives in a trash can. Junk food dismisses the value of hearty and greasy food calling the best garbage food paints food that was retreieved from a dumpster and made it to a bounty for the gut. My friend Conrad had a BLTA. I tasted the BLTA and the bacon is the stuff one dreams about---- the type of bacon that makes people go wow this bacon is thick in a real way. It is not thick in I am flattering myself for clout and likes kind of way. True pleasure to enjoy, and I only had one bite. But sometimes a bite is enough to understand the promise of the whole sandwich, that in this case was cut in half. The pool table was empty which seemed odd because I have never actually seen that in a pub, at least, not in recent memory.

Cool setup overall. The service is where it fell apart. We walked in and told the hostess there were two of us; she just said "sit anywhere" without showing us to a table or explaining how things worked. We sat in a booth for a while -- no menus, no server, nothing. My friend was very drunk and badly needed water, so eventually I went up to the bar myself to ask how it worked. Turns out you order everything at the bar -- but nobody tells you that up front. I had to go up three separate times: once to figure out the system and get waters, once to place our food order, and again later just to get a water refill. That last refill was the most frustrating part. The bartender who'd helped us earlier saw me standing at the end of the bar and just walked away. I waited and waited, didn't want to be that person yelling over other customers, and eventually another bartender helped me out. It really wasn't busy that night either, especially for a night with a whole festival happening nearby, so there wasn't a good excuse for it. On the plus side: my hamburger was genuinely really good, and the whole meal for two came out to about $30 -- the cheapest we ate the entire trip. My friend got a tomato pesto cheese sandwich, though he was too far gone to give me a real opinion on it. Food gets a thumbs up, but the lack of any real table service and being ignored at the bar soured the whole experience. Probably won't be back unless I hear the service has improved.

I love that they have darts, but their boards are used and abused. Gotta get some new ones. Otherwise, it's a great place and I love their case walk in whiskey room. Now I've seen it all. He double checked a 2nd time letting them know it was important and they again confirmed no dairy. When he got the rice he took one bite and he thought it tasted like it may have butter he asked again saying "this tastes like it has butter." The employee assured him saying there was no butter. My son was very hungry and so he decided to trust them and ate most of the rice cup. He started feeling sick within minutes and went up a fourth time to ask them. At that point, the employee asked the cook who informed them that butter was used. My son had been dealing with health issues the last two days due to his severe allergy. He is having difficulty breathing, in addition to all the other symptoms that come from dairy allergy. It's very sad to see him in pain knowing the restaurant did not take his allergy seriously and misinformed him. To the owners and staff members please take food allergies seriously. I inner stand people make mistakes. I hope that my son's pain will cause the restaurant to change its policy to take food allergies seriously and that the next person won't suffer. I have had the worst most disgusting experiences at this bar. A friend and I were out for our day off. She lives in Long Beach I live in LA. I came up to visit her because she lives in the apartments near the Dubliner and we went to go have a couple of drinks. We were sitting on the outside patio when night began to fall, and we got a bit chilly so we went to make our way inside of the bar, and as we found two empty seats, an old man said "these two bitches took my seat" and I proceeded to say "excuse me, what did you say" and he said you heard me and I said yes, I did hear you and I feel sorry for your mother for giving birth to such a gross human being. Who speaks like this to women and he told me fuck you my mother is dead get the fuck out of my seat And I said excuse me, but these chairs were empty and we just walked in and you were standing over there talking to a group of people. No one was sitting in the chairs when my friend and I occupied them. Then the bartender walked up to us, and told us to move out of the chairs that the old man was sitting there, and I said, when we sat here, and no one was here, and he proceeded to tell us that he will not serve us. The bartender sided with the old man who berated my friend and myself. This is the first time I have ever been to the bar I had spent quite a bit of money there, because I had ordered a few drinks for my friend and tipped cash with each drink we ordered as we had been sitting outside for about two hours And the bartender, I believe his name is Jay his dark skinned with a dark beard, proceeded to take the old man side as he berated my friend, and I calling us disgusting names. I proceeded to take pictures of the bartender, and as I tried to take pictures of the man who was calling us names he kept turning his face because he knew he did not want to be identified this man seems like a woman beater I want the bartender fired, I have never felt so disgusted by some men and unsafe like the way I did at this bar read more

So, after reading a lot of these Reviews below I was a bit apprehensive , There are people being critical of the Decor, service, drink prices. I went anyway. I had the best night I've had in a long time. The problem it seems with Yelp and all these sites is that we are all amateur critics. Looking for things to complain about instead of enjoying ourselves. I arrived at the auld Dubliner at 9pm on a Saturday night with a friend. We sat at a table first for dinner then moved to the bar. Our server was Andrea, She was amazing, our glasses barely emptied and our food was timely and perfect. I had fish and chips, My friend had a boxty. We had some 20 oz guinness pints. These pints were $6.50 . Some reviewers saw this is expensive. But having drank many 14 and 16 OZ "pints" elsewhere for $5 to $6. Id say not too bad at all. You cant compare Budweiser to Guinness. One is Domestic the other from Ireland. Its gonna cost more. Get over it. We Moved to the Bar. I met Dave and Chris, Chris is also the manager. These guys killed it back there. The Bar filled up , A band started. Next thing I know the bar is three deep and these guys are slinging drinks. Once again. three deep at a bar , you are going to have to wait for a drink. Its just what happens at busy bars. My advice, Tip your bartender. It works. So all in all. A great night. We had great food and Great Service. We met some cool girls, Made some good friends and will definitely be back. Go see for yourself. Yelp is cool. But its not the Zagat Guide. Don't forget. This is an Irish pub and restaurant. I've always loved this place - all started back in the day when my buddy Tom moved to Long Beach City, shortly after we found ourselves drinking till we blacked out and ordered Big E Pizza... This place has never changed; it is a straight up Irish pub. Its loud, like could be annoying to some people... I kinda dig it. Its suppose to be loud and obnoxious Irish music but the bands do get a little wild sometimes. It gets SUUUPER PACKED due to its location (convention center across the street), i have not made last call because of how packed this place gets, but its all good - a shit show is what I want when coming here, really a great vibe :) if you are looking to have a quieter, intimate conversation with someone, this may not be the place. Right next door is Sgt. Peppers, so some of that crowd eventually makes it over. I have no reports of bad service here, always get drinks (as soon as the bar can) and always get good measured drinks - nothing weak or miscounted. Possibly the best Irish car bomb i have possibly ever had 1 thing i absolutely hate is that this place can be (on my last few visits) a sausage fest - just a bunch of lame, jabrone college kids hitting on anything with a vagina. I personally think you're better off picking up girls at a different spot, but if you're looking to get smashed and have a great time with no expectation - come here !!! read more

I am from Ireland. My family own and operate an award winning Hotel and restaurant in Donegal. I took this position as I believe this little pub in Long Beach is the most authentic Irish bar I have seen in the US. The food is excellent and we strive to provide the same welcome that you would find in any public house in Ireland. . I invite everyone that has had an issue with us here at this restaurant to come down and see us again. Ask for me when you get there. After a long morning at the convention center, my group and I were looking for a quick and satisfying meal nearby, and we stumbled across The Auld Dubliner. It was exactly what we needed. The service was quick and friendly, with our server making sure our large group was taken care of without rushing us. I ordered the fish and chips, and it did not disappoint. The fish was flaky and crispy, just how I like it, and the portion size was generous. The chips were decent, but I would've preferred them a bit crispier--they were on the softer side, but still tasty. My friend went with the shepherd's pie, and she was really happy with it. Warm, hearty, and filling--perfect comfort food. One thing that stood out was the vibe of the place. It was cozy and had all the charm you'd expect from an Irish pub. We also noticed that they have weekly music sessions, which would have been a fun touch if we had come in the evening. Overall, a solid spot for a quick, satisfying meal with a nice, laid-back atmosphere. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a nice hangout spot. read more

Was here last night on our Thursday date night with my husband. So excited to try the fish & chips everyone raves about. I was definitely happy with the food we had. For a Thursday evening the ambiance was low key, nothing crazy and we left fairly early. My review is not on the food, my review is on the lack of information regarding the pre-authorized credit card transaction. I understand that the restaurant has to make sure their customers are able to pay for their meal/drinks and this is why they ask for a credit/debit card to have on file. But, never did our server inform us that their would be a pre-authorized amount charged to our card and mind you we paid our tab with cash. Unbeknownst to us, we wake up this morning to a $32 charge on our card from this restaurant. of course we were surprised, because we didn't pay the bill with our card. Dubliner, please do a better job of letting your customers know that their is a pre-authorized amount being charged when you ask for it to be placed on hold. Thank you. read more

This place is really good, except one guy. I love the atmosphere, the food and the beers. But being a black man in an Irish bar is sometimes uncomfortable. I'm not a gangbanger. I'm a student working on my B.A. in business. Yet, whenever I go there, there is a bartender with long hair that makes racists comments to me under his breath. "Oh look, it's Run DMC" "maybe The Cave just closed" I shouldn't have to tolerate this. I still go there, I just avoid his nights or just him. The ironic part is that all the other bartenders fit the racists stereotype with their shaved heads (there is like 4 of them), but they are the reasons I still go back since they are always nice, make my night pleasant, fun and make me feel comfortable. The owners should really fire this long haired Irish racist guy and maybe the place would be busier and feel more like a neighborhood bar. Came here for dinner for the first time and we were happy that we did! Staff is friendly and attentive, great selection of beer on tap or bottle, along with other drinks and the food was delicious! My Irish Cobb Salad was fresh, it has generous amounts of bacon, chicken, Cashel blue cheese, avocado and had boiled egg. I tried the spicy ranch dressing with it and was very pleased. Hubby had the sausage rolls which are two puff pastries with Irish sausage. He said they were good. We also tried the Irish smoked salmon with potato pancakes. The salmon is really yummy, very delicate flavor and it is served on three small potato pancakes that are light and fluffy. We treated ourselves to dessert - you have to have the creme brule', it was amazing! While we were there, we were given sample shots of Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey, free t-shirts and other fun goodies to take home. This place is great! I highly recommend this palace. read more

This place rocks! Great staff behind the bar, those guys CRANK OUT DRINKS! i was there last weekend and had a great time, plenty of diversity amoungst the patrons which is good for me because i people watch. i took the red line so parking was'nt an issue . I have to hand it to the staff though they keep it pretty smooth, i think i counted maybe five guys and a cocktail waitress, thats not much for as packed as it gets. I even saw one of the bartenders take half of the line from the womens restroom and personaly escourt them to the mens while i had to wait! which is okay i guess because i got to talk to them, ladies first of course. if you've ever been to Ireland then you'll understand the decor, and the Guinness process. if you're in the mood for diversity in crowd and staff this is you're place. not many people get to experience a perfect pint of guiness, i had never had one until i was poured one at this joint. the irish guy behind the bar even showed me their award, which from what i here is not just handed out. but earned. with the signed picture by U2 even claiming this is the best bar in the LBC, it makes one think "dang this is a frigg'in experience!" i'm sitting where bono sat. kinda cool. the bar staff is absolutley the fastest i've seen. not rookie night at all, these guys go flying by eachother hanging onto whatever to keep them upright, yet no collisions. i was lucky enough to be there when they had a band. i was pretty pumped. the dude behind the bar told me they got that going on 5 nites a week. if you want to chill out or rock out the Auld Dubliner is for sure a great pick. read more

For the second time at this establishment, I chose to bring my boyfriend due to my fondness for their Irish car bomb. We visited on a Saturday evening, parking at the theater lot as the bar lacks parking, with a reasonable charge of $8. Upon entering, we found it packed, but we enjoyed the atmosphere, particularly the DJ, whose turntable discs impressed my boyfriend. I ordered his Irish car bomb, and we had a pleasant time. However, I was disappointed to find the bartender appeared overwhelmed, a contrast to my previous visit when they were friendly. As a bartender myself, I recognize the importance of first impressions, and I hope for improvement upon my next visit. I NEVER skip nights here when I'm in town for annual work trade shows at the LBC Convention Center. There's nothing like stumbling into a proper Irish bar and instantly feeling at home. The crowd and vibe is always welcoming and fun. The later it gets, the more rowdy things are. But hey- I'm known to get weird after a long work day! I've witnessed some INCREDIBLE bands here. Recently I really believed the fiddler's strings were gonna fly off when covering Devil Went Down to Georgia. It was insane. If dancing, laughing, cursing, and getting beer spilled on you sounds like fun. Welcome home. Bonus points for being within stumbling distance of most major hotels. read more

The Auld Dubliner well the reality is that any Auld Dubliner would get another local because he just could not get served. No matter how much you tip, the Irish staff are sure to run around with their heads down when the place gets full and you will have to beg to get a pint so in the end I just gave up... The place must be managed and staffed by morons who were tossed out of Ireland because they were no good at bar work.. My advice is to avoid the place until they learn to treat their customers properly.. This place is somewhere I want to like. I really want to like it. But...I can't do it. It gets so incredibly crowded full of "frat boy" types and general pervs that I cannot stomach it. The only thing keeping me coming back at first was that it was a fairly nice looking Irish bar. Also, my good friend (the 7 ft. tall guy with an equally big heart) used to work the door. He was the only thing keeping the peace in this place. Now, I fear it's probably beyond help. My advice to you ladies: If you have to go at all, take mace and/or your karate skills. Skeevy types even hang out by the ladies restrooms trying to catch a peek! Gross. Just gross. read more

This is my favorite place ever. my family comes here for lunch or dinner with my little brother and sister, the food is insane, the service is great, I really couldn't complain. What really makes it for me is a couple hours later i can come back with my friends and lay into a couple pints 'o' guinness. Oddly enough, this is the only place i go, where my dad and uncle can show up and not feel out of place. The crowd is always diverse and the bands rock hard but not too hard for my 60 year old dad. So good it made me rethink my entire life's choices up until this meal. The fish and chips? The portion was so big I thought they accidentally gave me a family platter. Now the bar. The Guinness? I've eaten at this "Pike" restaurant several times now. The ambiance is great...dim lighting...what I imagine an authentic irish pub would look like. The food has been very good every time. Today I had the Pub Burger and fries. Very tasty and filling. I went to lunch with my friend Judy and we got there at lunch time...so, it was pretty busy. Busier than I had ever seen it. So...the wait time was a little longer and the service wasn't the best...but not bad either. At any rate, I'd recommend this restaurant if you are in the mood for something "differerent". Bad news first: Friday and saturday nights, The Auld Dubliner appears to be terribly understaffed in the bartending department. The barkeeps are some of the best I've seen, but they definitely need help working their way through the masses of thirsty patrons (including myself). Now the good news: BEST GUINNESS IN LA...it's the only place you can get a proper pint; and the Mixed drinks are strong and delicious. The Auld Dubliner is my go-to bar when I want to meet some new faces or pick up one of the fine young lovlies that seem to be ever present there. read more

My wife's birthday was October 1st but she had to work that night.... so for the next day on Saturday we went out to eat at a nice place and then came here for drinks and music. The band was incredible and they played all of our favorite music and even took requests... the atmosphere was fun, and the service was incredibly friendly. We had such a great time, and will definitely be back. This place is awesome for live music, and there isnt enough of that these days!!!!! read more

Worst door attendant/bouncer ever! Selfish, heartless bastard who witnessed a heron get hit by a car right in front of the bar. As we tried to rescue it, he came over and yelled "It's got diseases, step on it's neck and kill it." Asshole. We ended up taking it to the Long Beach Animal Hospital and had X-rays taken of it. Only had a broken leg, and this bouncer wanted to kill it. I hope someone doesn't give him any attention if he ever gets injured. read more

The wedge salad was pretty basic. There was very little bacon on it and way too much blue cheese. In fact, I ended up leaving a huge amount of blue cheese on my plate. The salmon was quite small and super salty. Overall I was not happy at all with the food here, although I will say I've had good food here before. Also, my husband and son thought their food was pretty good. I would come back, but order something different. And absolutely come back for their pop-ups which are amazing!

With a cheese, and everything else that came with it, I was happily pleased with it all. Especially the carrot that tasted like pickled because it was laying on one. I will never forget that taste that I enjoyed so much on that day. The prices for beer are actually impressively cheap. I really have no complaints on this place and I think that what they do to get people's names on the wall for drinking 70 different beers from all around the world is really cool. I might have to try it one day. Thanks to all the people at Murphy's for putting on a great St. Patrick's Day for this fan. Oh, and by the way, they make such good popcorn.
