    Downeast cider

After having it on my list for months, I came to The Babe during Restaurant Week in Salem in January 2026. Restaurant Week, as per the Salem Chamber of Commerce's website, is summed up as: "Participating restaurants offered special two- and three-course prix-fixe menus, giving locals and visitors alike a chance to explore, support, and celebrate Salem's vibrant dining scene." For $45 I got cheddar jalapeño fritters, a poutine burger (hamburger with fries cheese and gravy on top, kale Caesar salad with freshly grated cheese, and fresh, piping hot apple cider donuts. The burger was hearty, the fritters popped, and the donuts hit the spot but by far the standout was the kale caesar salad with the creamy dressing over crispy and crunchy kale topped with the tangy grated cheese. A Downeast cider washed it all down and was refreshing. I went on a weekday so there were a few people sitting at the bar with me but overall the place wasn't packed. What I really appreciated was the general manager came to talk to me specifically about their Restaurant Week food selection and to get my feedback. She was super friendly and I told her about the kale caesar salad. Parking is on the street and can be hit or miss because The Babe is right on Washington Street where it starts to curve around the corner. It's worth it to keep circling though. The Babe has different events each night of the week, including Jazz Tuesdays and karaoke Fridays. I had a great time at The Babe and I appreciate how much they support the local Salem community. I am looking forward to going back!

They do a good job at this place. They stay busy and take mostly reservations for the regular tables but make room for walk-ins at the bar. The bartender we had was quick and friendly, and we liked the draft beer offerings and the mixed drinks. We were very happy with our food. We chose to share the apple cider donuts (starting the meal with dessert), which were just as advertised. Delicious. We also tried the buffalo wings and the breakfast burrito. Yum! Delightful flavors. Only reason for 4 of 5 stars is the bathrooms needed some cleanup. I imagine it's hard to keep up with crowd control, so I hand waved it overall but is an important detail that sometimes gets overlooked when you get busy. Also easy enough to correct. Regardless, we had a really good visit. I wouldn't hesitate to go back again.

Brunch was really great here! The French toast reminded us of a fried dough, so crunchy and yummy. I was hesitant about ordering a cold brew, if you are picky about your coffee you know it can be a hit or miss, but it was great as well! Service was fast. We were surprisingly satisfied overall.

We came to Babe in Salem for a weekend brunch with a group of 8. The vibe was cozy but lively, trendy without trying too hard, and the staff handled our big group with friendliness and efficiency. The Rueben is OK, but I wouldn't call it a Rueben. It had red cabbage cole slaw instead of sauerkraut and was a little dry. The drinks were definitely the highlight. We had the strawberry fields and coffee talk. Coffee talk was STRONG

A solid addition to Salem! The interior is quite the vibe with a handful of high tops, low tops and bar seating. We tried the Veggie burger, which is refreshingly homemade and fantastic and the French fries are fair style and absolutely delicious! We also tried the falafel on a Caesar salad, and it missed the mark and it lacked a bit of flavor, but did have a beautiful green color. The side of falafel was quite generous on top of the salad. The Caesar salad lacked a bit of flavor as well. We did not try the cocktails, but the cocktail list was appealing and well crafted. The service was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend a stop.

Just had an amazing lunch at the Babe! Literally everything we ate was amazing. Starting with the steak and cheese that included fried mozzarella in the sandwich. The fries and side salad were excellent, and all of the veggies were crispy and fresh. The atmosphere and service were exceptional and the price was right! I highly recommend

I write this review as a random customer on a weekday at 2pm ish and I had no idea or preconceived notion of what this place would be and I got to say it was Awesome! From the minute my friend and walked in the doors we felt welcome and comfortable. Just looking for a drink and a quick bite and The Babe did not disappoint. David at the Bar to his quick change into attentive waiter was seamless. The food was top notch! Coming from LA, I can say that Salem slayed the uber stylish and oh so trendy Gabagool that you can't get at home into a delicious sandwich! Go to Babes for David, then the food and for sure check out the miniature bathroom sink.

I had a reservation at this restaurant when I was in town for my bachelorette. Service was fast, friendly and the establishment was clean. Food was delicious and I would recommend stopping by the next time you're in this area!

Amazing food and cocktails! Get the cheese steak whether it's for breakfast, lunch or dinner. That is top tier.

It's not a true hidden speakeasy since the sister restaurant upstairs, the Dire Wolf Tavern, has signage on the street for it, but I didn't care - the drinks just looked beautiful, and the moody decor was so on trend for Salem without hitting you over the head in a touristy way. We walked down some pretty steep steps after having dinner at the DWT - not sure if there's another entrance or not, but seems a little accessibility challenged. We sat in some of the low down, trendy looking, cushy chairs, and had to order drinks at the bar. Table service would have been nicer, especially for what they're charging for a cocktail. I asked for a pretty drink I'd seen online in a coupe glass with foam and purple and yellow almost flower shapes in the foam, but was told it was from an old menu. No big deal, I figured as such since it was an older photo online. I ordered the Midsommar cocktail without egg white (was very excited to see Creme de Violette on a menu, but the flavor was more mild than I hoped). It was pretty good, and quite strong. I wasn't over the moon in love with it - I actually liked the drink options upstairs better lol - but it was quite good and made quickly. This spot would be great for a photoshoot, I'm dying to get a spot at the unique lit up circular bar they have. It started getting busier and louder later into the night, but when we first arrived it was nice and calm and relatively quiet. I'd go back to try more specialty cocktails, but for $20 including tip for 1 drink that was honestly quite small, it feels a bit like an overpriced tourist spot. Very fun to visit but not great if you want to be having multiple drinks. I'm glad we went and would try it out again for sure.

The food is nothing spectacular, though it's not bad either--just kinda mid. We had the ceviche, which was decent for $16. The drink menu itself is really cool, but it is very overpriced. Because we had already had a couple of drinks elsewhere and were mostly just buying time, we opted to stick with water. The ambiance is easily the best part of the experience. It's a fun, lively rooftop bar that sits right in the middle of everything in town. It offers some nice views directly over the main pedestrian street in Salem, though honestly, beyond that, you can't see much else. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We didn't have a reservation and weren't thrilled with the seats we were given, but that's fair game for walking in. It's a neat place to stop in for a quick view if you're passing through, but be prepared for typical tourist-heavy prices for drinks.
