Charged me way more than what the bagel was really worth workers were rude and moody. Bagels were not the best either.

I stopped in around 1:45 this afternoon, looking for a coffee. The staff of 4 - 5 were behind the counter, helping the person ahead of me. I was the only customer in the store.....and I stood there, at the counter, wallet out, ready to place an order. The staff chatted with each other. One lady was wiping counters, looked at me, and walked off. Another staff member asked if it was waiting for my order. The lady said "No, she is just standing there waiting". I said "No, I'm waiting for someone to take my order". They all looked at me..... I was over it by that point. One of the men asked what I wanted to order. "Nothing, thanks..." as I turned and walked out. I heard the man say "Now she's mad....". No, I'm not mad, I just won't be back. I can get coffee and attentive service at a gas station. Maybe they make so much money they don't need to bother with customers? Good for them.... read more

I really tried to like this place, but I can't. The people are great, always. But the overpricing is ridiculous. I bought two simple bagels and two small fountain drinks, almost $40. The tuna on my bagel had to of been the most sweetest and most disgusting I've ever had. Couldn't even finish. Their avocados are ALWAYS BROWN. I'm from marina and I work in Carmel, do yourself the favor and stay away from privately owned chains, the quality lacks on the south side of Salinas location as well. Pretty Good Bagels however the bathroom never seems to be cleaned or stocked with paper goods, Not the cleanest location, surprisingly in Carmel. Sadly the entire sitting shopping area is dirty, neglected. The Original Bagel Bakery in Monterey County always had Great Bagels. read more

So, a few months ago I went in, ordered a toasted bagel. Got in my truck and down the road I opened my bag and this thing was burnt black. Problem I have is that the server had to have seen it and tossed it in my bag regardless. Today I thought I'd give them one more chance. I went in and ordered. waited patiently because they were busy. Just about the whole line behind me got served and checked out and I'm staring at my stupid bagel sitting on the counter. Once the gal that had served me started taking new orders and ignoring my order I just walked out. I will never cross that threshold again. New owner doesn't respect or value his local clientele. A new employee made a mistake on my order, I didn't realize until I returned home. I called the shop to let them know and it was closed for the day. I let it go, no biggie. I mentioned it to the owner next time I was in. Rude service, mediocre bagels. Placed a DoorDash pick-up order, went in and saw a single order by the pick-up sign, grabbed it and gave a loud, "thank you!" They were busy, I was in a hurry (hence why I used DD). Lady behind the counter rudely yelled, "excuse me!" to which I responded, "DoorDash pick-up order, is that ok?" She shrugged and looked away. Quite a surprise to find excellent bagels in this modest place. The lox schmear was full of lox chunks, the bagel was just the right amount of chewy and crusty. And the coffee was piping hot and excellent. Treat yourself and stop at this spot in the Barnyard Shopping Center. read more

I agree with Shiho. This is the best bagel bakery. I got a vegetarian on superseed. That's what I always get. I ask them to take the bready part out, toast it and slap some extra spouts on the side. It's yummy. Basic, quick, fresh. Bagel Bakery nowadays is nothing like it was 20 years ago. The bagels are about the same (REAL boiled bagels) but they use to put so much filling inside you could barely fit in in your grill. The ratio of bagel to cream cheese was like 1:1 now it's about 1:20. No lie. This is no longer cheap hippie food. I've gotta stay home if I want that. read more

Watched the workers scratch their face and handle money with the hand with no glove, then touch people's food without washing their hands... I know when it's busy you want to move fast and quick, but that's how people get sick. Food was okay, but I won't come back here. read more

Bagels typically get boiled and then baked. It seems as though mine was only baked because it was hard as brick. I ordered some coffee too with half and half, but the person serving me dumped a bunch of coffee mate in it, which I despise. All of it went in the garbage shortly after leaving the establishment. Highly disappointed on this visit here. They don't encourage social distancing. I had a family of 6 practically breathing down my neck in line. Would have been nice if there was tape, stickers or some sort of distance requirement while standing in line. The older lady who helped me today was extremely unfriendly, down right rude with her short questions and responses and botched our simple order consisting of 2 bagels and 2 sandwiches. I miss the owners that used to work here every morning. The new staff especially the older lady could use a lesson on manners, and possibly a hug. For being a breakfast place you expect a warm welcome to start out your day not to feel like a burden to the employee. This place gets three and a half stars. So before mom's memorial service the lil one got hungry.. I had been craving lox and cream cheese on whole wheat.. we smashed from Carmel High to this lil joint. Fast service and decent prices. I got the New Yorker that had a reasonable size of lox (it extended over the bagel and the cream cheese was on both sides.. tomato and onion were perfect amounts) and my lil roll dawg got the belly buster (double pastrami and some wannabe veggies) with a Vitamin Water and an Odwalla the grand total was 17.00 bucks. The veggie options looked good for under three bucks. They have tons of combinations and the bagels are averaged sized. Definitely worth another trip back when I get a bagel craving near Carmel read more

Definitely an interesting spot it smells really good the bagels are most likely authentic I think so It is very disappointing to see the Philadelphia cream cheese whipped in a 5 gallon bucket as a go to for cream cheese. No cool. They were easily confused at check out on a three person order and I don't even know if I was charged correctly but it's a go to ones place so live and learn. The locals seem to snake everybody else in line and no one seem to care or say anything so It definitely didn't have a very good customer service feel. A whatever place. Ok to skip. read more

Told the lady my order 3 times but every time she would turn around to start halfway through clearly not listening to what I was saying. Asked for a small amount of cream cheese three times, puts an ice cream scoop on each side of the bagel. Asked for capers 3 time, puts on hot peppers. Didn't even make a new bagel when I pointed it out, just wiped off the hot pepper. Had to go home and deconstruct the bagel, wipe 97% of the cream cheese off, pick the little pieces of hot pepper off, and put it all back together. Afterwards it was a completely cold bagel and too much of a mess. Would not recommend as the whole experience was a waste of money. read more

This is a nice location, recently remodeled in the last year or so, with seating inside and a couple tables right outside. It doesn't seem to get too busy and there are usually 2 people working the counter in the morning so if there is a little line, it tends to move fairly quick. I've been stopping by here maybe 1-2 times every week or so for the past few years before heading into work at 8am. The guy usually working the counter (I believe he is the owner but sorry I don't know his name) is very friendly and I can tell he's gotten to know quite a few of his customers. Having become somewhat of a regular customer myself, he is quick to get my order started without me having to actually order. I always get a toasted superseed (aka "everything") bagel with plain cream cheese. I like that it is lightly toasted (not too crunchy), they use regular cream cheese (there's another location that uses the whipped kind which ends up quickly melting into the warmed bagel) and they are not stingy with it so there is more than enough to separate your bagel and spread it on both slices. Working in an area where food/restaurant options are very limited, I love having the Bagel Bakery nearby for an inexpensive quick grab breakfast item. read more

I love the bagel bakery. I've been getting bagels from the bagel bakery since I was child. This particular location I have been coming to more frequently at of recent. I love the food but the service can be lacking some mornings. There's one particular worker who lacks food safety practices. They wear gloves to touch the food and I watched this employee blow her nose, scratch her nose after and touch money and the cash register and start on a new order with the same gloves. At that point the gloves are pointless. Not only is it cross contamination when you don't put on new gloves between orders and touching the cash register but it's also a health hazard when you blow your nose and touch your face with the gloves on and continue wearing them touching the food. They need to either implement better food safety practices or if they have them do a better job enforcing them with their employees. read more

If you're just looking for a quick bagel or bagel sandwich on the run, this place is ok. About eight bucks for a bagel sandwich or $1.25 for a simple bagel. If you think of it as a coffee place, it's another story -- it's a place with amazingly low quality and high prices. The coffee, in particular, is pretty disgraceful considering what they're charging for it. It is hot enough to cause second-degree burns, and is weak and flavorless. read more

Most people have no idea what a good bagel is. Bagels of today have no chewy crust, the seeds can't stay on, and they can be pressed down to a flat pancake.
