The atmosphere immediately worked for me. It has that comfortable neighborhood café feel, with the newspaper-style menus giving the place some personality instead of feeling like another generic breakfast spot. The staff seemed genuinely happy to be there, the clientele was pleasant, and my server, Elaina, was fantastic. She was attentive, friendly, and handled every question I had without making anything feel rushed. For breakfast, I kept things simple and ordered an egg sandwich on a toasted everything bagel with an over-easy egg, cheddar cheese, and bacon. Nothing overly complicated, just a solid breakfast sandwich done well. My guest went with an egg sandwich on a toasted onion bagel with an over-medium egg and American cheese. For drinks, I tried the Broadway, their raspberry latte with white chocolate, and had mine made with oat milk. That combination sounded interesting enough to get my attention, and it ended up being really enjoyable. Sweet, creamy, different, and definitely something I would order again. But the surprise star of the entire visit was the pistachio cream cheese. Apparently it was one of their specialty or featured cream cheeses, and I am very glad I asked about it. Rich, creamy, unmistakably pistachio, and they were not stingy with the portion either. I was spreading that stuff on every piece of bagel I could find. If it is available when you visit, ASK FOR IT. Overall, this was just a really pleasant breakfast experience. Nothing needed to be extravagant. The service was good, the food hit the spot, the atmosphere was welcoming, and I found a couple of things I'd absolutely come back for. I walked in and another Black customer was already waiting to place an order. We both stood at the counter while staff walked past us without acknowledging either of us. After standing there for a while, I finally asked if we could place an order, and the response was simply, "Just a minute." There was still no acknowledgment or effort to take either of our orders, so I left. I can't say what their intentions were, but based on how both of us were treated, I left feeling like people who look like us were not welcome. My visit was on July 31, 2026, at approximately 9:45 a.m. I was waiting for a prescription at another business nearby and decided to walk over to The Bagel Cafe for the first time. When I walked in, another Black gentleman was already standing at the counter waiting to order. We were not together. After standing there for a bit, I asked him if anyone had taken his order, and he told me no. Employees were walking back and forth behind the counter, but neither of us was acknowledged. Had someone simply said, "We'll be right with you," I would have understood and waited. Instead, we were left standing there without any acknowledgment. I finally asked, "Can we place our order, please?" and was told, "Just a minute." At that point, I decided to leave. I can't speak to anyone's intentions. I can only tell you what I experienced. I left feeling unwelcome. As a first-time customer, I did not feel that my business was valued or that my money was wanted there. Such a good bakery and breakfast spot! You can go in and pick a dozen bagels, some schmears, a cookie platter, etc for your house or coworkers. Or you can have a full-on sit down breakfast with all your normal American style breakfast options plus more. They also have a variety of other sweets/desserts apart from just bagels. We ordered the veggie omelet with house potatoes, sourdough bread (they were out of the sourdough bagels), Rueben omelet, and cheese blintz. It was my first time having cheese blintz, sooo addicting! Basically a soft/sweet cheese filled crepe served with sour cream and strawberry jam. The serving sizes for the price were huge, and the quality of everything was great. I have to admit all the food here is classic Tri state are style and I love the nostalgia it brings. I love stopping in when I'm in a pickle for dinner and grabbing a cup of split pea soup that comes with a bagel and a shmear. The tropical cream cheese is awesome but the spinach feta bagel with plain cream cheese is magic friends. The service is always great. When you come in you seat yourself but the team is attentive so I haven't experience a wait. Cornbeef hash is good, sometimes need a little boost of salt and pepper but once it hits it blends nicely. I'm happy to say that the service is back to being great and this return visit was excellent. On a Sunday around noontime, the cafe was about full with a small wait. The counter had empty seats so we sat there. Within a minute, someone was there to get our beverage order. Not too long after that, Abbi (awesome server) came by with bagel chips and their monthly cream cheese. It was fruity and delicious! She took our order and we were off to a great start. The coffee served was brewed fresh. I find that Bagel Cafe consistently has a good coffee blend. I had a 2-egg bagel sandwich and it was very good. I was stuffed eating just that. While sitting at the counter, I get to watch all the action where the bakery case and to go orders are. I can say that all the gals running the front were working hard and taking care of all the customers. Came over here for brunch with my friend. She was mad about this place. So I met her at this little restaurant/deli. And it just looks small on the outside. There are a ton of tables here. You will be in food heaven. No matter how busy it is. I have always had the best customer service from each and every employee. The serving size of our pastries were bigger than our hands. They put no gravy on the chicken fried steak, burnt outside and undercooked inside of the chicken fried steak. The bagels were like mush like garbage. This restaurant has gone downhill. Finally made it here! It was a rainy night and I was in the mood for soup. I was happy to learn that it's open at night. I ordered the chicken noodle soup with a half pastrami sandwich . The chicken noodle soup was extremely flavorful and hearty! The cup was as big as a bowl! The pastrami was amazing! Just be right amount of pepper and sliced thin and very lean! It was topped with provolone cheese! The swirl bread was lightly toasted and good. The portions are generous! We also had matzoh ball soup. Amazingly it had been seven years since I had last dined here, even though I loved the food the last time around, and vowed to return often. After how good my food was on this latest occasion, and taking into account the breadth of the expansive menu, this lapse will not be likely to reoccur in the future. After complimentary Bagel Chips and cream cheese, and a sliced Kosher Dill Pickle, I began with a large bowl of Matzoh Ball Soup filled with numerous shreds of white meat chicken, circular carrots, celery, oodles of noodles, soft Matzoh Balls, and very tasty broth. Then for my main I selected a combo sandwich of Lean Corned Beef & Chopped Liver on Rye augmented by Red Onion, fresh lettuce, red tomato, and mild Yellow Mustard. Although this sammy wasn't as physically imposing as the "mile high" version that was almost impossible to get one's mouth around sold at the now-shuttered Carnegie Deli inside the also deposed Mirage, this half pounder was massive enough that I knew I would be taking half home for lunch the next day when I ordered it, which is exactly what I did. Diane enjoyed a Roast Beef French Dip with French Fries, delicious au jus, and a slice of Carrot Cake that was two bricks high and contained "melt in your mouth" frosting. She, too, brought home most of what she received on her plate. Potato Salad and Cole Slaw were first-rate. A small amount of Provolone Cheese on her French Dip was the only criticism she reported on the food she received. While the food was as great as ever, and we received accurate and friendly service by Nicole B. except for having to ask for our ordered bagels that came with the soup, I had a difficult time getting anyone to help me at the deli counter where I was trying to buy six bagels to take home. A man behind the counter barked to me and the only other couple there that we had to form a line before we could be served. But where to form it? There were two signs for take-out ordering and three spread out cash registers. I told the couple to go first because I thought they had arrived ahead of me. Then they proceeded to order dessert after dessert! At length another man behind the counter said that he would wait on me soon. Then he left the room and soon came back--only to begin preparing complex sandwiches with his back to me. Eventually, while my soup was losing heat at my table, another man (not "Ole Yeller") did appear to bag the assorted bagels I selected, and the female cashier who accepted payment was friendly, but customer service behind the counter has declined. Additionally, payment by credit card now results in a $2.00 assessment. I paid by cash, "generously" (I thought) telling our server to "keep the change"--only to see her again at the door as Diane and I were leaving, informing me that my payment was short. I had been juggling money from my wallet at the table, so could understand how I might have miscounted. Thus, I quickly coughed up the missing Twenty Dollar bill, a little embarrassed at my mistake. read more

If you take a few minutes to review the menu, you'll absolutely find something to suit your taste. Parking is a little tricky, as it's in a small business shared lot, so try to plan your visit on off-popular dining hours. (We've managed to always find parking & no wait for a table upon doing so.) Service is very good & if you're not sure what you're doing, just ask one of their friendly staff. (Ordering take-out is done at a different counter than those paying & it's hard to see, so just ask if it's confusing. It was for me the first time.) We were well taken care of by our waitress and we definitely underestimated the food portions. They make sure you don't leave hungry and left satisfied. Their bagels are fresh and fluffy and perfect. I went to the doctors office close by and decided to stop and have breakfast. What a mistake. The waitress was sweet and that's where it ended. The young man that was serving drinks, continually wiping his face from his hair down his neck, and then grabbing people drinks with the palm of his hand over the area where you sip from the glass.
