I stopped by Bagel Palace expecting a simple bagel-and-cream-cheese breakfast, but the pricing left me genuinely shocked. I ordered four plain bagels with cream cheese and the total came to over $25 before any tip. Looking at the receipt afterward, each bagel with cream cheese worked out to about $6, which feels extremely excessive for such a basic item. The food itself was fine, but nothing about the experience justified that price point. At these prices, I'd expect something exceptional, and this was just a standard bagel with cream cheese. Another issue is the layout of the restaurant. The space is incredibly cramped. Between customers waiting in line, people picking up orders, and limited room to move around, it felt crowded and uncomfortable. If more than a handful of people are inside, navigating the space becomes difficult. Overall, the bagels were okay, but the combination of very high prices and a tight, congested dining area makes it hard for me to recommend. I believe I left a review for this restaurant but it disappeared. I have eaten here a couple of times. My friend loves it. So we go sometimes. The service has always been great. Came here today for my morning espresso. The inside is decorated heavily with various trinkets. Ordered the espresso which was presented in a porcelain cup balanced on a saucer. Not sure the type of coffee beans were used but I watched as it was freshly brewed in a stainless steel espresso machine. Took a seat in the far corner with my espresso as I sipped and was entertained by the scattered Mexican decor (i think it was Mexican) including a green, red and black somrero hat. The glass display case of fresh bagels were visible from almost every seat as a focal point of the shop. Plenty of bagels including Cinnamon, Everything, Plain, and Onion. They offer pre-packaged quick grab pastries at the front counter including Baklava, Italian Cakes, Rugelach and Walnut Cakes. How is this place still open?! I came in for breakfast and was turned off by the dingy tables and chairs that looked older than me. Think 1980s cafeteria or dining hall (yep those odd shaped backs and round tables). There is a huge sign that says tips are cash only, yet they accepted tip on a credit card slip. The food was subpar. Eggs were under cooked, potatoes were under cooked, and the bacon was burnt. It is truly disappointing because I wanted to support a local business badly and other neighborhood staples that had tremendously better food/service/ambience are shuttered. Frozen tenders that are thawed and deep fried. Creating a mushy greasy nightmare. The sausage egg and cheese was a disaster. The bagel was undercooked, home fries had more grease than a fair corn dog, and the American cheese was put on as an after thought. It was still cold and not melted. Service: our server was nice and understanding. However, they felt the need to tell me that their chef had been cooking this for 30 years. I used to drive by this place and never went in. I thought they only sold bagels. After waiting an hour and a half waiting to be seated for breakfast, I found this place on Yelp and realized it was around the corner. I called and they told me that right now there was no waiting, and if I came now I would be immediately seated. Three minutes later my party of four was seated. I was greeted by Evelyn. She told us she worked there over 30 years. She gave me some of the best service I've ever received at a food establishment. She was attentive (stopped by often to check on our table), pleasant, and she spent time talking to us at our table. When you go there, I recommend that you ask for Evelyn. The food was just as good as the service. I had the French toast, scrambled eggs, my wife had the veggie omelette with buttered toast, and potatoes, my sister had pancakes with eggs over easy, and my brother-in-law had a toasted bagel with butter. Everyone loved their food. I sampled from my wife and my sister's plates, I would have been just as satisfied with my meal had I ordered what they had. I give Bagel Palace five stars. My husband always gets the breakfast with eggs, bacon, grits and bagel. I love my everything bagel toasted well with a side of cream cheese and green onion. They really deliver on the Carmel mocha coffee. It is always busy for breakfast and we have become one of the regulars. The menu isn't consistent to what I would pay for a solo cup of scallion cream cheese. A filled over the brim costs you $4.99. However, I have to say that I can't replicate the taste of the bagel, butter and scallion cream cheese on my own so I pay the price. Total cost of a bagel with the cream cheese is $6.99. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. Side tip about the tip. Please bring cash for that. The owners and staff are happy when you pay them in cash. This is an old fashioned breakfast place. The offerings are very basic. As I sat there waiting to order and then waiting for my food, I noticed that everyone who came in seemed to know the cook and waitresses. A lot of first names and big hellos. Seems like this place has a real loyal following. Like an extended family. The little old ladies who are waitressing are so sweet. Yet know how to run a dining room. Last time I came here I ordered the bagels and lox and coffee. All good. This time I ordered the country fried steak. The portion was huge. It came with delicious home style potatoes, two eggs and a bagel with cream cheese. The steak was smothered in gravy. What a breakfast. I was stuffed. All for $10.95. Excellent bagel sanwiches. We ordered two bacon, egg and cheese bagels to go. They were so yummy fresh with two eggs scrambled, fresh cooked bacon and american cheese melted on top. The guy on the grill had a european accent. He went right to work on your order as we were in a rush. The waitress who does look like Betty White, got me a delicious cup of coffee. She was as sweet as pie. Out of the corner of my eye I spied fresh made home fries on the grill. They looked delicious but because we had to run I will have to order them next time. You know your grandma's kitchen, right? Lots of kitsch from the old country, food that's not necessarily fancy or organic but always served with a smile, right? Well, Bagel Place comes pretty close to that! After running errands up in Pembroke Pines on a Saturday morning, I was hungry and used my Yelp Mobile app to find some eggs benny and Bagel Palace came up. It's a snug space, with a lot of celebrity photos and decorations from Greece and eastern Europe (lots of Cyrillic). The wait staff was actually very pleasant, even on a packed Saturday morning. I ordered the eggs benedict, french toast and took advantage of their coffee refills. It may not be organic or locally grown, but coffee is always good when unlimited refills are served on time and with a smile. My eggs benny was nicely sauced, poached soft (as requested) and with a generous helping of home fries. The Canadian bacon was a little thick to cut but nonetheless hit the spot. French Toast was fluffy, with a generous helping of sugar, and they even gave me more syrup in a to go box when I couldn't finish my order. At least this last Saturday, the great service I got pushes it to four stars. I'm glad I found another spot next time I'm up in Pembroke Pines for brunch. read more
