As of mid April this place is under new ownership. I used to come here alot years ago, but always found the food to be just ok and the prices were always ridiculously high. Let's start with the service, it was horrible. I dislike nothing more than going to an establishment and feeling like I am bothering them by being there. The blonde middle-aged woman behind the counter is the complete opposite of welcoming. If the owner of this bakery is reading this, fire her or put her in the back because she should not be dealing with customers. After I waited at least 5 minutes, just standing there, and being the only customer, she stared at me, like saying "What do you want?" I couldn't believe it. I will say that the only reason I didn't leave was because I had a meeting in the plaza, and I was hungry and didn't want to be late. If not, I would have walked out. Food is fine but I am giving one star because the bad service is not worth going here! My boyfriend came in and after ordering, saw the employee add a tip to his total. He would have let that go, but when he asked for his receipt, she laughed and said "this isn't a hospital!" He has been working on his Spanish and thought he misunderstood, but no, she continued to make jokes and did not give him a receipt. After reading the other reviews I believe she didn't give it to him because she had "sneakily" added a tip. I just called to place my order based on their online menu. It was a disaster. First, one person took my order, and there was a lot of confusion and back-and-forth with her and someone else at the bakery. Next thing I know, I'm talking to someone else. This new person starts repeating back my order, and it's a confused mess, so I offer to start over. Halfway through my order, she tells me that the other lady was supposed to tell me that plantains are no longer included. Well, that's disappointing, especially since I had now already placed my order twice, but whatever. Since it is an order for a group of people, I tell her I have to hang up and call them back to see what the group wants to do. I call back, order two sides of plantains in addition to the food, and then get a monstrous total price that makes no sense. A meal that was supposed to cost about $53, including the plantains, now costs $82. I ask about the huge price discrepancy and whether or not they still have lunch specials, and she tells me that they do, but what I ordered isn't on the lunch special. I point out again the fact that her menu says everything I ordered IS on the lunch special list. She tells me that their online menu needs to be updated. I ask if they have an updated paper menu, and she says that needs to be updated as well. I probably don't need to tell you how shady all of this is already. I'm trying to figure this out before finishing telling her the credit card info because I'm concerned and trying to get to the bottom of things, and she's kind of trying to get me to pay and say she'll clarify after that (?!?!) Because we are all hungry and I don't want to have to start over picking a place everyone agrees to, especially after already wasting time, I just give her the payment info. She says next time (there's definitely not going to be a next time) I can call her, and she can tell me what's on the lunch menu or make recommendations. That's absurd, especially if you are ordering for more than one person, and I politely tell her as much. It's even shadier, because she was telling me they had called someone to fix the menus TODAY, and yet at the end of the call, she's already basically promising another deceptive exchange just this one at some point in the future, which makes me wonder about her little story. I hope they're happy with the $30 upcharge they got out of me just now. It cost them a bad review and a loyal customer of many years. Unbelievable. Don't order from here. Went there early morning this week and was surprised how expensive their food has gotten and when requested to cancel part of my $40 order was treated rudely and she said she would not refund my money. When I complained was told by this lady to never go there again. I canceled my order on the spot as I was shocked to be treated so rudely. I do not recommend this bakery!!!! This is a nice little place serving up a large menu every day of the week; from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday thru Saturday. On Sundays, they begin serving breakfast at 7:00 and close at 4:00 p.m. Everything here is good. They have salads, wraps, sandwiches, like the grilled croquette sandwich on a sweet roll that I had today, and complete meals under $10, with your choice of palomilla steak, shredded beef (ropa vieja), grilled chicken, fish or pork. Each comes with white rice or moro-style rice and black beans with either maduros or tostones. They also have great sides, canned and bottled drinks, shakes, fountain drinks, and fresh fruit juices. The service is good and there is also a large selection of bakery items, coffee, colada, hot chocolate and cappuccino. Today we had the cheesecake with strawberry, but we were not fans. The blonde lady who is always there has been stealing money from customers!!!!!!! I went the other day and she added an extra 5 and change to my order for an omelette, I asked her what for she said meat and cheese.... You know for an omelette that already comes with it. Then today she went to charge me and at first was 30 dollars.... Then she changed it to 34.. I asked her what for she said because extra butter. So I asked for itemized price for each item and caught what she was doing! This lady charged me an extra 6 DOLLARS FOR BUTTER! When I refused to pay it is when she took off all the extra butter charges. The total was now 28 dollars. Please watch the receipt when purchasing items here and ask for itemized receipt . Been coming here since I moved to the area back in 2003. This morning I arrived at about 6:30 am after a red eye flight from Colorado. The pregnant lady at the front was rude, and way wrong with the way she treated us. I ordered two orange juices, but when she told us they would be room temp, I told her to cancel the order, that's when she flipped and said that she would not refund the $9 for the two orange juice. After a minute or two, she agreed to refund the juices but told me to never come back. It's a shame the owner was not there, she seems to be nice, her employee, not so. After I ordered and paid I compared the prices to online and they were double. When asked the girl laughed and said oh yeah I told the owner. I wouldn't mind paying higher tower both the PIcadillo and steak sandwich were clearly not worth it. The beef seemed like it was defrosted and cooked and was definitely not fresh. I've been coming here for upwards of 18 to 20 years. I was here on the first day, the first morning that we have fresh baked Cuban bread. It was the first latin bakery in the West Pines area before the migration of all the other bakeries. This place is fantastic. Customers for life come here. All generations, all races. You can't say much more about the place. The food is fantastic the coffee is what Miami coffee should've, the pastries and cakes are perfect. They have the best omelet sandwich in town. My turn to bring tres leches to "'my beloved" Mark A. to satisfy his craving. I missed the turn to Vecky's, then remembered this small place he mentioned. I couldn't think of the name or exact location, but wanted to trust instinct to guide me on my driving hunt. Succcess! (That's huge, considering I have the worst sense of direction.) Small bakery, but a good selection of baked goods. I was craving chocolate cake, which obvs isn't Latin specific, but decided to go for it anyway. And who can resist getting a pastelito when they're staring you in the face!? So, 1 tres leche + 1 chocolate/coffee cake + 1 guava&cheese pastelito = $5.80. Nice! Love how cheap it is. Tres leche was deeeeliciousss. I'm glad Mark was willing to share with me. The cake wasn't as sweet as I was expecting. I tasted a hint of Kahlua, perhaps? The food here is okay but they are very overpriced. Especially considering their service is horrible. I come in almost everyday because it's close to work. I always, always, call and order in advance because they get so packed and do not know how to keep it moving or run the counter. Instead of having one girl take orders and everyone else filling them, they each take an order and then fill it. That means the register goes unattended for more than 5 minutes at a time, even with customers literally out the door. It's complete chaos. Even though I order in advance, i sometimes have to wait an absurd amount of time for anyone to even acknowledge me, let alone ring me up. Don't even ask them to let you pay over the phone. I look forward to taking my son to his doctor's appointment just so I can visit this little café. It's a quaint and homey environment where you can sit in, sit out, or take out. I had the ham and eggs, which comes with Cuban toast and a café con leche. My son had an omelet sandwich while his dad had a ham and egg croissant. I didn't enjoy my ham and eggs as I usually do because it was made with honey ham (I assume as it had a sweet flavor) and I tend to not like sweetness with eggs. So I don't think I can fault them for that. There was one thing that blew my mind and taste buds though.... the spinach empanada!! That was absoluuuutely delicious!!! Oh!
