They have gluten free bagels (from Trader Joe's) and a gluten free toaster, so they appear to be an area favorite in the gluten free community. Wife has a gluten allergy so our family of 4 came here. Wife ordered a bagel with cream cheese. Then we were informed that they couldn't promise no cross-contamination today because they aren't using their gluten-free toaster. Why not? Because they don't have enough staff to put on gloves and walk over to the area where the gluten free toaster is and turn it on. That's what he said. Awesome little bagel shop in Stowe. Tons of awesome bagel and cream cheese options, great bagels and very nice owner. I had the salt bagel and my husband had the NYC bagel sandwich with lox- which he raved about. Only complaint is their hours are reduced due to covid so they aren't open every day (otherwise we probably would've gone every morning we were in Stowe). read more

My bagel was ok. The amount of cream cheese was good but the maple walnut cream cheese did not taste like maple. It tasted like plain cream cheese. I asked for my bagel toasted and it wasn't toasted. Staff was nice and friendly. read more

WE went to this place when we were in Stowe on 4th of july weekend. It is a typical bagel shop with many varieties of bagels and bagel sandwiches. I got egg, cheese, onion , pepper and bacon on onion bagel while wifey got a onion bagel veggie sandwich w hummus. The bagels we not bad at all and pretty nice and soft . everything looked hand made in the shop and nothing that was out of the packet or a freezer. I am not sure about the egg though. overall it is a decent place to get bagels for breakfast and lunch and you wont be disappointed. read more

We chose this breakfast place due to the early hours they opened. Not many places open early for breakfast in Stowe. The crowd was light and the food was good. Ok customer service is a big deal to me and I have been here frequently over the past several years and it's best it was only just transactional, at its worst it was off putting to be a customer there with the "side-eye" sort of approach the staff gives customers. I understand covid has really brought all of us down intensely but this lack luster approach to customers has always been there. Which is totally fine if you just want to have an exchange of goods and money but not feel welcome and comfortable to come back. I'm scrolling back through other posts I can see that other people have also pointed out the staffs apathy or even aggression. There is one post where the actual OWNER tries to school a customer on how to leave feedback on Yelp which has long been a standing joke among our friends sharing how aggressive the owner got with a customer online. Yelling about the price of Cabot butter. Highly entertaining if you want to scroll down to it. For covid reasons they are doing all transactions outside. Understandable, but as a customer I sort of expect that a business would still take care of their customers and watch for customers to show up around the door. However, they have a sign that says if you don't seen anyone call us to order. If I don't see anyone!? If I don't see anyone!? I am going to expect that you are closed or you don't have enough staff to properly run your business. Today, there were almost 12 customers waiting outside for over 10 minutes with not one staff member greeting or serving anyone. Another local behind me even said "god this place sucks." She isn't wrong either it was sad how badly they were handling the customers. When a staff person finally did come out she yelled to the parking lot "our toaster is broken so no toasted bagels today!!" YIKES !! I guess this might explain why no one was helping customers but again customer service is about greeting and helping people. Things go wrong and that's ok but when someone runs a business they should want people to come back, a friendly apology for the wait goes a long way. In terms of food / bagel quality- it's ok certainly not the best bagel in the world and not the worst. Which is why your customer service has to be even better when you aren't service the gold standard of something. The bagel could be a little crunchier in the outside and a little doughier on the inside but that's my personal preference for bagels not everyone's and that's ok. It's a shame there isn't really another Bagel place directly in Stowe to give "The Bagel" some healthy competition and strive to try a little bit more and be innovative, or maybe just nicer. All in all you want a bagel in Stowe you can go here and get what you want. If you want a nice customer experience or outstanding tasting food there are other places to check out. They get 2/5 stars because the food is average (3/5 stars) but the customer service is really a (1/5 stars) so it nocks it down to 2/5 stars. They are a bagel place and they provide bagels just don't go expecting to fall in love with it. read more

Was it the most impressive, freshest melt in your mouth bagel? No..but this place was open, right next to AJs so after you rent your gear you can stop here on your way to the mountain. Meh. I guess in a town as small as Stowe I shouldn't be so picky, but you know when you wake up in the morning and all you want is a fresh cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich? Well, maybe you don't ever feel that way, but I sure do! And this place looked like it would fit the bill, but fell short with the whole flavor aspect of life.... They have tons of different types of bagels that can be made into any type of breakfast sandwich, but their pumpernickel bagel really was not pumpernickel in the least sense, and it was hard! Not like it had been toasted too long, but like it was OLD. They barely put any peppers on my breakfast sandwich, and my onion bagel was also pretty darn hard! I don't want to have to put forth that much effort that early in the morning to eat a bagel. I just don't. And especially if it doesn't even taste that good. At least the eggs were cooked well in it. There were a ton of people here (good morning people watching I say ha), but then again there aren't too many other bagel shop type places around here, so I guess they don't have to strive too high here in the breakfast to go world. They are open early and the man at the cash register was super friendly. Though, the ladies yelling out when the orders were ready seemed less so. The bagel and coffee were both good, fresh. The service was fast. However, they put an obscene amount of cream cheese on the bagel. So if you want less, make sure to ask. I probably scraped off more than half of what they put on there. Good food, fast service, decent price. I would recommend for a quick breakfast. read more

Four stars because I got a great bagel and smoked salmon in minutes when the restaurant I tried to go to (McCarthy's) was way too busy on a Sunday morning. The Bagel was just across the parking lot and did the trick. The jalapeno cheddar bagel was very fresh and very spicy. Even though it was a puffy bagel (not the wonderful skinny Montreal bagels of a mere 80 miles north), it was chewy enough to indicate a serious bath before baking. TL;DR - Surprisingly decent bagels, but poor breakfast meats. As a native North Jerseyan, I am picky about my bagels. "The Bagel" surprised me with a decent quality bagel, so this place might be worth trying to grab one with a spread. The sandwiches though? Ugh. Wife and I shared two breakfast sandwiches - sausage, cheddar and egg on an everything and "The New Jersey" - taylor pork roll (sigh), cheddar and egg on a plain. The sausage was subpar, but edible. The "taylor pork roll" was probably the worst I've ever tasted, with my wife commenting it may have been rancid. Very rare for me - didn't even finish the food. read more

Grabbed a bagel and a muffin for the kids before hitting the slopes on 3/23/16. There were no complaints about taste from the kids and they were both happy to get Orangina to drink. My huband, on the other hand, thought that the lady preparing the food was rude, and he has a very high tolerance for rudeness and impolite people. I wanted to go back to try a bagel with lox and cream cheese but I don't think he's going to support them again. The bagels are pretty good (not the best I've ever had) and there is a big enough selection of bagels and cream cheeses that create a plethora of combinations. I've never had any of their sandwiches, as I'm a big bagel and cream cheese guy, so I can't speak to any of those. The decor inside could use an upgrade, but it's not a sit-down, wait staffed place, so the plain, underwhelming interior will likely not change. I go every time I'm in Stowe, since I'm never really hungry enough in the morning to go to a full sit-down breakfast place like the Dutch Pancake or McCarthy's, so I'll definitely be back to The Bagel the next time I'm in town! read more

Not bad. Not Rosenfelds. Not Bagel Land (horray NY!), but definitely not a bad option. I never really like to get too far away from a good bagel, so I was glad to find this place. Had a hummus "bagelwich" for lunch on Sat. Holy garlic batman! Tasty none the less. In any case, if you've strayed too far from the NY border and end up over in VT, this place will tide you over until you can get further east (or south). Mmm! read more

I just ate here an hour ago and was disappointed. My husband ordered egg with bacon and cheese on a sesame bagel. I ordered pepper and onion egg with ham and cheese on a sesame bagel. Both our sandwiches were bland and literally didn't have flavor. It was so odd. The eggs are microwaved as well. I was looking forward to a freshly pan fried egg. But perhaps that's too much to ask for. I got a latte in which is made all by a machine and that was the only flavorful thing. The people there are not very friendly and were complaining about one of the workers in front of us. I also noticed the girl making food, scratched her face with her gloved hand and go back to making food with the same gloves. I'm definitely never coming back here. read more
