Then, when we asked for a recommendation for the type of bagel to have with a specific sandwich, she shoved a list of available bagels at us and said "depends on what you like." I decided to write a review for The Bagel because they provided me with a very good breakfast after I was disappointed by my complimentary hotel breakfast and the Harvest Market being closed for renovations. On my third attempt to eat, (very hungry by now), I stopped at the bagel shop with the hope of finding something hot like an egg sandwich. I got a plain bagel, toasted, with egg and cheese and Canadian bacon. It was excellent. The bagel was fresh, plump, and tasty. The Canadian bacon was flavorful, tender, and hot. The egg was scrambled. The cheese was gooey and melty. The sandwich was appropriately wrapped and cut in half for easy handling. That is what you hope for when you order an egg bagel sandwich. The staff was helpful, too. The guy was able to answer my bagel questions and direct me to the waterfall hike location up the road. I also ordered coffee, which was pour your own out of those large pump thermos jugs that a lot of places use. It was decent, comparable to Panera coffee. I am a Starbucks fan so I don't think I should review other coffee. I know everybody has different taste in coffee. Suffice is to say the coffee was hot and I was able to drink it. Overall I thought the place was good and I'd go back again. They had more flavors of bagels than I usually see; so it would be fun to try some of them. read more

I've never been so underwhelmed by a bagel/bagel sandwich. Whole wheat honey bagel had little flavor, was on the smaller side and "the basic" sandwich was just lackluster. Got an iced latte as well, and it was just awful. If I hadn't had a "to go" order I would have brought it back and demanded a refund or remake. Ended up dumping the latte, and certainly won't be returning to The Bagel next time I visit Stowe. read more

Stopped here for a quick bite after hiking. Really friendly staff, yummy food, and peaceful ambiance. The BLT bagel sandwich was delightful, and everyone in my party enjoyed their own sandwiches as well. Granted, I'm from Jersey and our bagels are pretty solid, The Bagel could do better in one major category: the BAGEL. I ordered the country ham, egg, and cheese on a toasted bagel. The bagel was paper thin and flavorless. It almost seemed to crumble as I bit away -- never a good thing. We have a ton of good bagel places on Long Island, but I'm always willing to give an "out of town" bagel a try. This place is TRYING, but falls short. First of all, the service is slow. Everyone was pretty nice behind the counter, but there was a long line, and I can only imagine it's a lot worse during ski season. The selection of bagel flavors was pretty good. The pricing was ok. My bagel sandwich was really, just.. meh. The asiago bagel was dry and crumbly instead of doughy with a slightly crunchy exterior. The cheese was slightly burnt. OK...the bagels are good...if you catch them when they've actually been baked and emerge with a tan. Saturday mornings don't seem to involve a pass through the ovens for any of the baked goods but one can always hope. And then there are the resentful little dragon creatures behind the cash register....we have come to the conclusion that the reason that they make you pay first and then go look at the bagels is because you might just run away after the impassive unfriendly gorgons have had their fill of you and then they get to keep your coppers. Great people - we've been going to The Bagel for years and they've never been anything but friendly and welcoming. Breakfast sandwiches are delicious, and the chicken salad is always a reliable lunch (especially on a toasted, everything bagel). And they now have a dedicated gluten-free toaster for their delicious gluten-free bagels...a huge treat for celiacs or people with gluten intolerance. As we prepared to leave the Stowe, VT area to return home from our vacation, we decided to visit The Bagel for a quick breakfast. Great decision! Quick and friendly service, reasonable pricing, and without a doubt the most amazing bagel I have ever had. I ordered a spinach and cheese bagel with garlic and herb cream cheese, toasted. My wife had a garlic bagel with plain cream cheese, and she, too, said it was amazing. We enjoyed them so much, we got a half dozen to bring home with us.
