Multiple times when I've ordered a plain bagel toasted with butter, literally the most simple order, it's come out cold. On top of this cold bagel, there's about a half an inch thick of unmelted butter. The bagels aren't bad at all, but this untoasted buttered up version really doesn't hit the spot, in fact it's kind of inedible. It's been at times when the place isn't busy too, and honestly I don't understand why the person making it (it's usually the same girl) sees that the darn thing is garbage. The bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich is pretty good but the eggs are microwaved and just knowing that kind of moves it down a level. Lol. I keep going back because I love bagels and this place is easy and cheap (not fast, the service isn't awesome), but like seriously it's not hard to make an edible bagel. read more

Coffee here isn't the best. Bagels are yummy. Location good for mountain activities. Unless you are a coffee nerd like me you may like it better than me. I for one need a place with consistent care in their coffee brew. read more

I ordered a blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese and to be honest it wasn't very good there just wasn't a whole lot of flavor that may sound vague but it's just my opinion but the other sandwich I ordered was a breakfast sandwich with sausage and cheddar cheese on a sesame bagel and my god it wreaked of grease and was unbearable to eat. The grease soaked all the way through the wax paper into the paper bag and through the paper bag it was a big mess and couldn't eat it. Again just my opinion. A serviceable place for cheap breakfast in pricey Stowe. Several tables for eating in but they were messy and crumb-topped and hadn't been cleaned in a while. Many options for breakfast sandwiches, but no different or more original than a Bruegger's or Finagle. Staff seemed flustered by a request for a last-minute substitution. read more

The place was full of flies and they were all over the bagels. It was gross. I asked the lady wearing glasses behind the counter of she would grab a bagel from the bottom of the bin, thinking it would be less likely to be touched by flies, and she rudely responded "I don't make the sandwiches you will have to ask the girl at the other end." For a bagel place, this place has pretty awful bagels. My husband had a bialy; it was tasteless. I had a small green salad with a scoop of incredibly dry egg salad on top. It was served in a small take-out container even though I was eating in. There is no service here; you order at the counter and pick up at the counter, and you bus your own table. So what is with the choices for tips offered if you pay by credit card? A tip for what? This is basically fast food. Expensive fast food. read more

Never go here! I was second customer on a Tuesday morning and you would have thought the employee had worked a full day and was existed. I have never felt so angry about giving a store my $ than I did this morning. No "good morning". No "what can I get you". Just "tell me how many bagels you need" as I was thinking about what I would get. I was a complete bother to her. To finish things off, after bagging my bagels, she plopped them on the counter and walked off. At least she discarded the bagels she dropped on the floor. The bagels themselves were fine. Found a piece of metal something in my bagel as i was eating it - about an inch long. :( they need to be a bit more diligent and cleaner when they make these bagels. I live in NY and purchased the bagels to go just to try the oatmeal raisin - it's just a cinnamon raisin with oats on it. disappointing. read more

Not going to bother comparing The Bagel's bagels to NYC because the fact of the matter is if you are eating there then you are in Vermont and it really doesn't get any better as far as bagels go. Great fresh bagels (love the energy bagels) and nice sandwiches too! Ate there with the kids almost every day on vacation. Wi-fi was a nice touch too. read more

This place is horrible!!!! If I could give it a negative star rating I would have. I was staying near by and went in on Friday 11/19. First, the coffee tasted hours old, and I never had to wait sooo looong for a latte that my wife said was a cappuccino not a latte. I guess they don't know the difference!!! Bought a pumpernickel bagel with butter and it was not a pumpernickel bagel at all. Just because there's carmel color in it doesn't make it pumpernickel. I also bought a bacon egg and cheese on a plain bagel for my wife and it was cooked in the microwave and was on an under baked bagel. she said it had the consistence of rubber. It was so gross that my wife took one bit and through the rest out, as did I! I bought a loaf of Challah bread because i was away from home and they were the only ones in the whole town that made Challah. The loaf i got was under-proofed and under baked. I usually make my own once a week when I'm home so I know why it looked the way it did and had the density of Styrofoam! The staff was some of the most unfriendly people I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. They were rude and cold! After waiting for several minutes to be acknowledged, when my order was finally taken they acted as if i was interrupting whatever it was that they were doing. And that my order was much less important when compared to whatever it was that they were doing before I had arrived. In short if you enjoy overpaying for horrible food and being treated like someone with the plague then this is the place for you. If not then I suggest the bakery across the street. They have a much better atmosphere, food and even though it's just as pricey at least I felt like it was worth the money. I love bagels... and had high hopes for The Bagel.. Let's just say that yes, they have an extensive menu and the place seems clean. It ends there... The girl taking our order kept coughing into her HAND.. and then handed me the coffee cups with the same hand. Hasn't anyone heard of the flu that is rampant this year? Gross.. !!!! Then the self serve coffee urn was empty so we had to wait for more coffee to be brewed.. At the time we walked in we were the only ones in there.. Shouldn't she be checking and brewing coffee while the place is empty??? One would think... Apparently not! So, we had to wait for coffee to be brewed AFTER she took all the new orders because now the place proceeded to get packed... A complete back up and cluster. My bagel was cold and nothing like I am used to.. Even my boyfriend was completely underwhelmed... Weak coffee, cold bagels, and probably a case of the flu coming... I wouldn't recommend... Go to Main Street Cafe on Main Street next to the Green Mountain Inn... Much better! read more

Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. The girl taking our order appeared new and was having trouble. A co worker with more experienced seemed annoyed that she needed help. When we received our order I asked if there was bacon on my turkey, bacon wrap as I had ordered. The annoyed worker was really annoyed now and rather than ask if" I would like bacon? " became annoyed even more and told me, "It was`nt on my order" So I just told her "that`s fine" not wanting to get the new girl in trouble. On my way back to my table my friend with me said, "I didn`t get ranch dressing" so I went back to ask for ranch dressing when the annoyed one said "Did you ask for ranch?" thats when the new girl verified that we did indeed order ranch. The annoyed one who was now enjoying crow was kind enough to give us 1/2 tiny cup of ranch. Total was 13.97 for the wrap( which was very small with cheddar sliced so thin you could see through it. My friends bagel looked fine. Bottom line, small overpriced wrap, lousy, rude service, and oh yea, place was too hot inside which made the whole experience, you got it, Annoying. read more
