I had been wanting to check this place out for awhile just to see how their food was and it's worth the trip. I got a basic Banh Mi and they didn't disappoint. It's one of the better options that has sprung up along Mamaroneck Avenue in recent years and about the only complaint I had is on the price point. I got spoiled for years getting sandwiches at Num Pang when I worked in the city and they were under $10 but times change. The food is good though can't say it's not. read more

Overall I give this a 4.5, I loved how fresh and crunchy the baguette was. The short rib had a nice flavor that was too overly marinated and overpowered the accompanying pickled vegetables. It's a crisp, clean, tasty sandwich. This is my banh mi standard. The only thing I could say is that I would appreciate more rendered fat flavor in the sandwich. Also, the bread may have been scooped. I'm on team #dontscoopthebread but again, I enjoyed the sandwich! The Brussels sprouts are amazinggggg! I love the sauce on crunchy fried Brussels. My recent experience at The Bánh Mì Shop was nothing short of exceptional. It was a busy afternoon, which speaks to how popular this place is, but the lines moved quickly, and the wait didn't feel long at all. This place is always immaculately clean, and the staff are incredibly friendly, which is one of the reasons for all the repeat customers. Today, I had the fried shrimp rolls as an appetizer. The wrapper was golden and crispy, the shrimp perfectly sized (and clean!), making it a tasty start to my meal. The chili sauce added just the right amount of sweet and spicy flavor to the shrimp rolls. For my main dish, I had the popular Grilled Short Ribs Bánh Mì. The baguette was light and crispy on the outside, and soft as you bite into it. The baguettes here are consistently fresh. The short ribs had the perfect seasoning, and the vegetables were fresh and crunchy. The sauce added just the right amount of spice--the heat wasn't overwhelming, but it complemented the ribs and vegetables beautifully. This sandwich had a generous portion of ribs, and you definitely get your money's worth in terms of serving size. I can't compliment this delicious sandwich enough. This small Vietnamese shop is located in White Plains downtown. Based on other reviews, I decided to give it a shot. Grilled Sliced Pork Banh Mi - The pork was flavorful. The bread was the star as it had a good crunch. Portions of food contents to bread was slightly lacking. Either add a little more meat or slim down the breading. The only spread they use is different types of mayo. I wish they had the duck pate available. Spring Rolls - They came with four really small spring rolls, fish sauce and one leaf of lettuce. The spring roll is the size of a small plastic ramekin (see photo). For $9, I would expect a a bit more in. Bun - My friend ordered Bun and he said it was decent. I was surprised it came with a spring mix, which is traditionally not in Bun. The store probably has done that to cater to the non-Asian crowd. If you order this, I would recommend telling them to not include a spring mix with your Bun. Pho - My other friend ordered Pho, and he also said it was decent. Portions though are small for a bowl of Pho. Summer Roll - Again for $9, the portions could be a bit bigger. Iced Vietnamese Coffee - Pretty good, would highly recommend if you want some strong coffee. There's minimal indoor seating, so this place is not ideal for sharing a meal with people inside. Cute shop with delicious food. I love the aesthetic of the place and only wish there was seating inside so I could stare at all the cute accents and designs. That being said, come for the food! We got a grilled short rib banh mi. The meat was very good, though the sandwich was a little too stuffed with the picked veggies and cilantro, in my opinion (see photo). After removing a little of the extras, each bite was truly heavenly. We also snagged some bubble tea, which was standard and very good. I'll definitely try some more of the options from the menu next time I am here. There may be a line to order when you arrive, but it speaks to the deliciousness. Plus, the line moves very fast. I've been coming to the Banh Mi shop for lunch since they opened, and their delicious and authentic Vietnamese food is as good today if not better than it was back in 2017. I primarily get either a banh mi sandwich, a chicken rice bowl, or on cooler days their pho. The banh mi's are served on fresh crispy bread with a choice of a variety of different proteins. My favorite is the fried catfish which always comes out hot and crispy which pairs well with the cool vegetables and spicy sauces. There is also a choice of spice level depending on if you want spicy mayo, sriracha, jalapenos, or all three. The thinly sliced fresh jalapenos are a really good addition so I recommend taking a risk on the "very spicy" when ordering if you can handle a bit of heat. The chicken rice bowl is my typical order, the thin slices of chicken are freshly grilled with lemongrass and served on piping hot jasmine rice, a side of fish sauce accompanies the dish. The chicken is always perfectly cooked and super tender. Sriracha packets are available by request and goes well with the chicken and rice. The Pho is a nice treat, especially in the winter or on a rainy day for me. The hot broth has a great flavor and the slices of beef are appropriately rare and sliced thin. Their Vietnamese iced coffee is also very good and stands out from the various bubble tea places that have opened in white plains. The coffee has a nice strong flavor with a pleasant sweetness from the condensed milk. Is goes great with a "very spicy" banh mi, to cool off your taste buds. The restaurant is mostly designed for take out but there are 4 stools along a counter to dine in, which are back after a prolonged absence during covid. The staff is very friendly and will bring out your food if you choose to dine in and get you any condiments or other items you might need. They are also a cash only restaurant so be sure to bring cash if you do not plan to order pick-up through an app. The Banh Mi Shop is one of the better food experiences to be had in White Plains. I picked up a classic banh mi and sliced pork vermicelli. The banh mi was solid and the bread perfect. The vermicelli was plentiful which means I needed more than one container of fish sauce. I will ask for another the next time. The side of salad was an extra bonus but again needed dressing so I ended up not finishing it. Both were fantastic and I'm so glad my SIL mentioned this place to me. Be warned they open at 1130 and close by 4. I look forward to returning and trying other items in their menu. That's all I could taste when I ate the sandwich as a whole. I had to pick out a piece of pork separately in order to taste it. Another wonderful lunch! Stopped in and ordered a short rib bahn mi and a beef pho. The short rib was marinated in a deliciously sweet/savory sauce. The crusty bread and the pickle vegetables were wonderful. The sandwich was well created an absolutely delicious. I had a great crunch to it. The Beef broth in the pho was well spiced and had a lot of depth of flavor. The beef was very tender, the noodles fresh, and the accompanying bean sprouts added a nice crunch. Ok......so I never had a Bánh mì. There were times when I was on Mamaroneck Ave- but never made it to The Bánh Mì Shop. So it was time I came full circle. Before anything else- Bánh Mì Shop is Ca$h Only. Don't be fooled- place is tiny but cute, a couple of tables and slim counter. With natural light wood wall slats, large brown butcher paper overhead menus and colorful accessories- TBMS has it down to a T. My Fried Shrimp Bánh mì without mayo- tasted good and had the usual cucumber, carrots, cilantro condiments- and flavors round it out nicely. But I was hoping my sandwich had a few more shrimp to balance the nice and crisp Baguette. Other than that, my Lychee Green Boba Tea was good and sandwich packed a nice punch. read more

My sister raved about the banh mi sandwich, you can order mild, spicy-spicy or VERY spicy-spicy. We both ordered the mild and it was pretty spicy. The sandwich itself tasted like it has sliced deli meat (ham and turkey) from the supermarket which is HELLA confusing. I was craving some Vietnamese grub and asked hubbs to pick some up after work from a place we usually visit. I must have sparked something in him, because he ended up coming here for lunch that day and texted me to rub it in, how good the food was. I asked him to just pick up dinner from here instead, since it's close to his work. I've had Th Bahn Mi Shop on my radar for a minute but never had a chance to try them out. I ordered all our food while hubby was en route to the restaurant. He asked that I do so because he mentioned that parking sucks in the area. Luckily they recognized him from lunch, allowed him to pay and wait in the car while they finished the order and brought it out to him which was really kind of them to do. Grub Rundown: Lemongrass Wings - I love lemongrass so the flavor of these made my night. I wish they were a bit spicier and I love dipping wings in a creamy sauce but these were great and did not disappoint on taste. My one critique would be that I had some feathers left on the wings which I absolutely abhor. Short Rib Bahn Mi (spicy) - this was bomb! I asked for extra jalapeño on the side and they did not disappoint. If I were to have this dine-in, I would have added the fried egg but it was great on its own. Brisket Pho - this was packed awesomely, keeping the broth and noodles separate to ensure that the diner has the best possible experience with take away soup. The broth has a depth of flavors and I immediately identified the spices that they use. The brisket was cooked well and they packaged the accoutrement nicely as well, thai basil leaves, jalapeños and bean sprouts all lending another level of texture to the dish. Short Rib Rice Bowl - hubby ordered this and enjoyed it thoroughly. There was an abundance of short rib sitting atop sticky white rice and veggies. I had a couple of bites and I would definitely prefer eating this dish, dine in, with a fried egg and some avo on top. I'll have to plan a lunch date with hubby one day so I can try the food in house. We only live about 30 minutes away so the food was fresh and warm but certain items are just better when you eat it at a table, feet away from the kitchen. read more

The Banh Mi Shop had been on my local radar for years but finally decided to drive over to downtown White Plains & brave the tortuous traffic & parking Shop itself is small & Spartan and although there is some seating, it's really designed to expedite take out I had forgotten it was a CASH ONLY establishment so placed my order & hustled back to my car to get The menu at TBMS is very focused around their various protein laden sandwiches that range from veggie to short rib (which is what I opted for). They also offer pho as well as a few noodle & salad options My warm short rib banh mi was served on a fresh crusty bread garnished with shedded veggies & spicy mayo. It was like the best steak sandwich I never had Wanted to also try their pho noodle soup which is supposed to be super tasty but will have to wait until my next visit to experience this. Most of the better banh mi's I've eaten in New York had extremely flavorful meats and are jam-packed with pickled vegetables, but this was not the case. I first tried the Banh Mi Shop about a year ago, and have been coming back every so often since then. If you live in Westchester you've probably noticed that there is a lack of really good Vietnamese (or just ethnic) food in general. However, the Banh Mi Shop is a really solid option for good banh mi. It's quite popular for lunch with the work crowd and there's not much seating, but it's a pretty quick meal so you'll likely have somewhere to sit. The decor and ambience -- pretty modern and hip. I usually get the mild grilled pork banh mi -- the pork is seasoned really well, really tender and juicy. In addition, the toppings -- pickled greens of various sorts, are plentiful and really flavorful. If anything, the bun leaves a little something to be desired, but hey you can't have it all. I've also had the vermicelli noodle dishes which are good in their own respect as well. In terms of authenticity, this place isn't the most "authentic" banh mi that I've ever had (I'm from California and have had lots of banh mi in Vietnam); that being said, the banh mi here is still really really good and will satisfy any craving. The only complaint I have about this place is that they are cash only. So be sure to bring enough cash! Otherwise there are some ATMs nearby. read more
