This is the closest I've come to actual southern food since moving away from AL. We tried the shrimp and grits and a chicken sandwich along with the corn slaw and cole slaw. The shrimp and chicken were cooked perfectly but the grits and pickles tasted over seasoned and salty. Hint- if you don't like pickles order your sandwich without them up front, (the picking juice left over is still overpowering on the bun and chicken if you pull them off after).Don't let the thin pickle fool you! Overall it was a great experience. Stopped by for an early dinner at Bantam Kitchen, on our way to Portland. The food was excellent. I had the shrimp and grits and my husband the fried chicken sandwich. The parking can be a bit of a challenge because most of the parking spots are taken by people going to the gym (which is in the same building). This place would CRUSH IT if they were just not quite so stingy with the pours for cocktails. My husband and I both had an Old Fashioned and it was the smallest drink of that type I have ever had. The drink was excellent, and normally we would have ordered a second round. But I was really so disappointed by the drink size I did not want to spend another $16 for such a skimpy drink. read more

The atmosphere and ambiance reflects a rustic kind of vibe, so it's nice if you like that. The food is a little on the pricier side, and honestly though MANY people have told me they love this place, the food over all is very mid. Not terrible, but nothing to even bring up in conversation. Kids picked this place after many choices I gave them and I'm glad they picked it. Shrimp Po'boy was very good and crispy, fries were good, shrimp and grits also very good and 2 of the kids got the fries chicken sandwich. I've only been to Bantam for dinner and have never had to wait to be seated, but I heard it's quite busy during the weekday lunch hour. There are tables available inside and outside or seating at the bar. Service is always friendly, and the bathrooms are clean! The Pimento burger and fried chicken burger are delicious. The shrimp & grits are great on a cooler day. The hush puppies and cowboy nachos are the perfect bites with your drinks. They offer tacos on Tuesdays. I had the fried shrimp and blackened catfish tacos which were done perfectly, just wish the catfish taco came with a little more catfish. A hidden gem, 5 minute drive from our hotel south side of Redding. Greeted with friendly welcome and the food was exceptional. Having lived and vacationed in the south, it felt like I was there. The best of both worlds with local craft beer, I would recommend the Eel River blonde ale. The fried green tomatoes with dill and hot sauce was a great way to start. We stopped here traveling from Seattle to Sacramento. We got the brisket burger and nashville hot chicken. I am from Nashville and while the chicken sandwich was very good, we will pass on it when we visit again. The chicken sandwich was very spicy but not flavorful enough for us. On the other hand, the brisket burger was by far an amazing burger. We opted for the Cajun files which were delicious as well. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant. read more

I found this restaurant on Yelp on our road trip. The location is a bit odd as it seemed like a construction/ car repair area. But once there, they have plenty of parking. The inside of the place was cute. But we opted to eat in their outdoor area which was basically a park picnic set in the direct sun on a patio. It was 90+ degrees and it was honestly a bit miserable. But it was our choice and we were grateful for the outdoor space. As for the menu, they had some selection, but I personally wished they had some sort of a grilled chicken. At the end I got the fried chicken sandwich and my husband got the pulled pork. I'm not a personal fan of fried foods, but it was ok. My husband enjoyed his pulled pork. Overall, what made this experience 4 stars was the service. The lady working there was kind, attentive and you could tell she knew most people eating there. read more

Amazing food, almost every dish was a 10 (despite the hair in one of our dishes), can't get past the sewer/septic smell every time every time we've been. (3-4 times). Really nice server, and the atmosphere would be nice and cozy but again, no one wants to smell bathroom when eating. Really disappointed that it hasn't been addressed this whole time.... First time here last night. Food was amazing. We were meeting friends and was able to get a table for 5 without an issue, even though it was Friday night and they were busy. We were greeted by the owner who was waiting tables and running the bar area. The restaurant itself isn't too fancy just a nice place with great food. I had the blackened shrimp po boy with the side salad. Beautiful and tasty! I also recommend the fried green tomatoes as the appetizer or the cowboy nachos. To finish it off we had the butterscotch pudding with white chocolate ganache and also the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake. Heavenly. We went with the special, which was a play on poutine with little fried grits cakes, savory shredded braised beef and the most flavorful gravy I've ever tasted. Service was excellent; fast, helpful and very polite. My only complaint is the chairs. Yes, the chairs. It's a noisy pub-like vibe inside, which I can deal with, but the chairs were so uncomfortable I couldn't wait to leave. I took my friend for her birthday (Sunday brunch). She had been before, I had not, but being from the South I was excited to try it. I made reservations on line. First the waitress/bartender was the only person in the front. I told her I made reservations online and her reply was, "oh, I never look at that". Glad there were tables available. We ordered, and she set my drinks in front of me and started talking. I looked at her and said, my friend had ordered drinks also, and she got this attitude and sass. My meal was just ok, but when I found a hair under the lumpy grits, that was the end of that. I should have told the waitress, but I didn't want another confrontation.
