6 Hand Roll Set (Salmon, Blue Crab, Spicy Tuna, Amberjack, Negi Toro, Scallop)
    Judy J.

I ordered the 6 hand rolls on DoorDash delivery. I thought it would be a light lunch but boy I was so full after! Packing came in a cute box. My favorites were by far the Blue Crab and Spicy Tuna. If I could only pick one, definitely the Blue Crab! The rest were okay, nothing to write home about.

Honestly the BEST handroll restaurant I've ever been to, even better than Kazunori and Rol!!! It's pretty small inside, so I don't recommend coming with a huge party. Easy parking with a parking lot outside. Taste of the Bar: 4/5. Not worth the $35 because the miso soup or sunomono salad (cucumber salad with sesame oil) and hot green tea were very average tasting, nothing special. BUT the 4 handrolls were super FRESH AND DELICIOUS! The best hand rolls I've ever had!! I don't have a favorite one because they all were sooo good. This would've been 5 stars if it weren't for the price. Next time, I'm getting a hand roll set for sure, not the Taste of the Bar. Even a 6 piece hand roll set is cheaper than the Taste of the Bar!

I stopped by The Bar for the first time and came away really impressed. The quality of the fish was the first thing that stood out. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and each hand roll was generously filled. I've had hand rolls at a lot of places where they're mostly rice, but that definitely wasn't the case here. I went with the 6-roll set, and while I initially thought it might not be enough food, it ended up being the perfect amount. I left comfortably full without feeling overly stuffed. My favorite of the bunch was easily the amberjack hand roll. The fish was buttery and fresh, and the citrus finish really elevated it by adding a bright, refreshing balance. It was one of those bites that made me want to order another. The restaurant has a clean, modern counter where you can watch the chefs prepare everything fresh in front of you. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and each hand roll came out one at a time so the nori stayed perfectly crisp.

Hand roll sushi bars are becoming a popular trend, so we tried The Bar on recommendation. Don't expect tables but seating at the bar for about 14. It was Friday night and had about a 20 min wait. No problem since this place is located at a shopping center. We ordered single, trio and 6 hand roll sets. Each roll was served individually as if on a tasting adventure. The rolls were basic. Some were tasty based on the sauce or fish. If you're looking to take a date out for a meal, this is a good spot.

Dropped in for a quick lunch- the restaurant consist of a long bar that wraps around with 20 or so seats around the open kitchen. Noise level is high as open space and no ceiling dampeners. So how's the food? Rolls are pretty simple concept so the decipher is how good of quality is the filling I ordered a set that came with four rolls than included salmon, tuna, scallop and crab. None of these rolls really stood out. In a positive side the fish did not taste fishy. The best roll we had, which was not part of set that I had was the yellow fish. The set of four cost about 22 dollars at lunch and was ok. Given that I felt the food was just ok, I probably would not stop in again. Parking is challenging at this shopping center. Tight area at this strip mall but parking is free.

Hand Roll flavors and ingredients were nicely proportioned, and yeh so true that it is optimal to eat the hand rolls immediately when served so the seaweed doesn't get soggy. We tried the Taste of the Bar and the 5-roll set, plus two extra hand rolls. Friendly staff. Ambiance was balanced between casual and modern lines. -- mostly at-the-bar tall seating with two low level chairs at a lower counter. Two things can be addressed, though these do not detract from food and service quality: The tall chairs are heavy and awkward to get close to counter when squeezed between either side by diners. You'll need a person to shove the chair closer or figure out chair placement first before sliding onto seat. They could reduce the music volume in the bathroom as it was too loud.

Found this place after heading to LAX. Amazing hand roll bar! Bar type seating that surrounds the sushi chef building your hand roll. Great service. Chef informed us of what each roll was coming. We got the seabutter deluxe which includes their top hand rolls. Rice ratio was solid and had good texture. Started with the salmon truffle. Torched in front of us with a strong sear taste. Next was the HYE, a minced yellowtail belly and tasted fresh. Uniscallop roll also tasted fresh and good quality. Sliced T toro hand roll was buttery and melts in mouth. The wagyu smell lit up the room when it was torched. One of the best hand roll places I've been to. Came before dinner time and it was empty. Seated immediately and had a quick dinner here.

Came here after my son's basketball games were done for post game meal. The food is spot on and I could have eaten until I burst but stopped. Notable hand rolls for me the spicy tuna crunch and the truffle mushroom. I ate the mushroom so fast that I don't take a pic but really incredible. Service really fast and friendly. Ambiance cool chic and hip. If you have not eaten here you need to go! One issue - we sat at the end on lower side and the ratio to chair to table is a little off so opt to sit at tall chair. Otherwise it's perfect.

Good service. We had no reservations and they were able to seat us at a lower table right away. I enjoyed the rolls, because they don't put a lot of rice. The miso soup and cucumber salad was good.

The fish was high quality and consistent with the experience that I've had at Seabutter's main location in Beverly Hills. I ordered online and took the food to-go, which was seamless and well packaged; there's also nice counter seating in a cute interior. One guy made sure that I enough chopsticks and ginger for my large order, which was nice.

Lux 3 Hand Roll Set (Salmon Truffle, HYE, Negi Toro)

Super excited that a handroll bar opened up in the South Bay. I would say this is significantly more expensive than Kazunori but the caveat is that there are more premium rolls & they give a lot more fish imo. They have a set menu of rolls and a la carte items all ranging from $6.50 per roll to about $15~ I got the Luxe 3 handroll set which included truffle salmon, HYE (yellowtail with lava salt), and Negi toro. My husband got a few a la carte and the wagyu handroll which was a plus after eating all fish. It came out to a $100 lunch for 9 rolls.. which is steep & we weren't full yet. Super nice place tho, would come again lol

Excellent quality of fish! I came here on a Thursday at 1:40pm and nobody else was sitting at the bar so it was nice to have the entire place to myself. Jessie was awesome and she gave me a lot of helpful recommendations. The salmon had the perfect flavor and texture, I would recommend starting with the 3 hand rolls $17 set menu which included: salmon, tuna, & yellowtail. The ambiance was so peaceful too.

I have eaten here twice now, both at "off" times mid-afternoon, so never had a problem getting a table or with service. The style is similar to KazuNori, handrolls in sets or a la cart. Unfortunately, the food here is just mid. The first time I decided to try the Lux 3 Set since it was interesting and different. It came with salmon truffle, HYE, and negi toro, and I also added a blue crab. For me, maybe the "lux" was too much for me haha but if you like truffle and caviar, I would recommend trying it yourself. With the blue crab, I found myself crunching on shell and had to spit / pick it out multiple times. I gave it a second chance and tried the regular 3 roll set of salmon, spicy tuna, and albacore. While I did enjoy this better, it still felt lackluster. Both times, the rice was more hard than I'm used to. AND both times the rolls came in a different order than listed! Which I guess maybe isn't a big deal but I just thought it was weird. Especially with the Lux set since the rolls are more special, I wanted to know what I was eating. Will I come back? Maybe if I'm in the area and a friend wants to go. Otherwise I'll make the drive to MDR.

My wife and I recently visited Los Angeles to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary and a major…read morebirthday milestone, and we were fortunate enough to discover Fishing With Dynamite. We had heard wonderful things about the restaurant, and after our experience, I can honestly say it exceeded every expectation. Because of our travel schedule, our only opportunity to visit was during lunch on the same day we had to catch a flight home across the country. From the moment we made our reservation to the moment we walked out the door, everything about our experience was exceptional. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a wonderful corner location and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The service was terrific, and the food was outstanding. The four of us ordered a variety of dishes to share, and everything was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. Each dish felt thoughtfully prepared, and there was something special about being able to enjoy such a memorable meal together on an important day for our family. But what truly sets Fishing With Dynamite apart isn't just the food or the atmosphere -- it's the people. Every interaction we had with the staff was wonderful. From making the reservation, to our waitress who took such great care of us, to the servers who brought our food and drinks, everyone was friendly, attentive, welcoming, and genuinely seemed to care about making sure we had a great experience. And then something happened that took that feeling to an entirely different level. After we finished our meal, I accidentally left a small bag at the restaurant as we headed to the airport. I didn't realize it until we were already at LAX, sitting at the gate and preparing to board our flight home. My heart sank when I realized what had happened. The items inside -- AirPods, Beats headphones, an external battery pack, an expensive pair of sunglasses, and other things -- were replaceable, but a few of them were gifts and had sentimental value to me. Given that we were already at the airport, I had pretty much accepted that I would never see the bag again. My wife contacted Fishing With Dynamite, explained what had happened, and the staff immediately went to work trying to help. We were put back in touch with the waitress who had served us, and incredibly, she remembered us and was able to locate the bag. We offered to pay for shipping and for the inconvenience of someone having to take the package to the post office. Instead, later that day, the general manager reached out to us personally and assured us that they would be happy to ship everything back to us promptly -- and, even more incredibly, they wouldn't accept a penny from us for doing it. That gesture meant far more to me than simply getting my belongings back. In a world where customer service can sometimes feel transactional, the people at Fishing With Dynamite reminded me that there are still genuinely caring people who are willing to go out of their way to help someone simply because it's the right thing to do. We went to Fishing With Dynamite expecting a great lunch. We left with an incredible meal, wonderful memories from our anniversary trip, and an experience with a group of people that I will genuinely never forget. The food is fantastic. The restaurant is beautiful. The service is excellent. But most importantly, the people who work here truly care about their customers, and they proved it by going far beyond what anyone could reasonably expect.

Although they are playing some good music. Service was extremely lacking. We purchased our beers which was separated from the food. I guess that makes some sort of sense, but the food service needs help. We were standing next to a couple who had already ordered and had been there for a bit when a large white man walked from out of the back and asked our neighbors if they needed help. They said they were helped already and he said okay and walked away. I laughed and said, loudly, we need help. Without a word or backward glance he walked into the back. Understand we were standing right next to them and we look nothing alike. We joked that he probably thought we were related. Mind you we're, my wife and I, are quite a few shades darker than our fellow patrons. We didn't let it ruin our day. We were finally helped since there were only 4 of us in line alm together. We ordered lobster lovers bucket, clam Chowder and fried calamari. The fried calamari and Chowder were outstanding. I woukd order that again any day. Unfortunately the seasoning in the bucket were too overpowering. We could barely taste the sausage and the shrimp. Even the corn flavor was off. And the lobster...... one was tough and rubbery and the other tough and chewy. This was supposed to be mane lobster but it was over cooked. I will be going back but not for the lobster. It was one of the highest priced items and it disappointed us. Last thing. The bathrooms are in poor shape. If your a germafob just make sure you take a lotn lot of sanitizer

We were catching up and talking quite a bit, so we didn't really notice the wait for the food. We started with the Maryland crab cakes and grilled octopus, and both appetizers were great. We then received our entrees, which included the halibut since they were out of the sanddabs. I ordered the halibut with scalloped potatoes and spinach. The flavors were definitely there, although the spinach could have been cooked a little more and the fish was slightly overcooked. The red chimichurri was a nice addition, but I felt like it could have had a little more flavor. My husband ordered the butter miso cod with rice and green beans. He enjoyed the dish overall, but felt that the rice was a bit undercooked and that the entree could have used a little more seasoning and depth of flavor. He also got the key lime pie dessert to go and totally enjoyed it. The drinks were great, and the bread was warm, fresh, and a nice way to start the meal. Between the view, service, drinks, appetizers, and overall atmosphere, we still had a really enjoyable evening. I just think the entrees could have been a little more polished, especially considering the quality of the rest of the experience. One thing worth mentioning is that there was a pretty pungent smell when we first arrived. It was noticeable enough to take me by surprise, although after being there for a while, I either got used to it or stopped noticing it. Overall, I'd give the experience 4 stars. There were definitely some highlights, and we enjoyed our evening, but I think the food has some room for improvement.

The ribs had a slightly sweet taste to their sauce which is totally up my alley. My sister loved the meatloaf. The soft protein mixed with the crispy onions and veggies was a good mix. The appetizers were so good; the shrimp was nice and plump. The steak in the petit plate was so tender. And the chicken piccata was hearty and plentiful. The sushi roll was meh though. S E R V I C E The employees were nice but the service was slow. I asked for water 5 minutes after siting and we didn't get it for over 20 minutes. L O C A T I O N The restaurant is really close to the water and is very cute. There's indoor and outdoor seating available depending on your mood. There's metered parking but it's kind of hard during rush hour.

The Bloody Marys used to be exceptional, accompanied by their delicious fried blue cheese-stuffed olives. This time, I had to ask for the blue cheese olives, and they were served separately and were very different than they were in the past. The asparagus fries were also disappointing and not nearly as good as they used to be. For our entrées, the Chilean sea bass was overcooked, and the mashed potatoes were so dense it was like eating plaster. Overall, the food simply did not meet the standard Nick's was once known for. What was most disappointing was the experience with my certified service animal. Despite dining with a service dog, no one offered a water bowl, and I was told that I could not feed her the plain burger patty I had ordered and paid full price for. The interaction felt unnecessary and unwelcoming. Unfortunately, this visit was nothing like the Nick's we used to love. It's disappointing to see such a decline in both food quality and hospitality from what was once a favorite destination.

Decided to try and share savory and sweet after asking the server what was popular. The server mentioned that they are known for their biscuits so we got the biscuit egg Benedict and she was definitely right because the biscuit as the base was amazing and the best part. The rest of the benedict were standard with the runny egg and prosciutto. We also got the peach french toast which was not too sweet as the walnuts and peaches pair well. The only thing is that the inside of the french toast was a little runny so it was slightly soggy. Overall great experience and cozy atmosphere to grab brunch with friends and would come back if in the area!

The location is convenient, right on the street and close to Manhattan Beach, so it felt like an easy spot to check out We ordered a bunch of different dishes to get a feel for the menu. Overall, the food was good, but I'm not totally convinced it matches the price point. The prawn was definitely a standout -- really delicious and probably my favorite of the dishes we tried. The cookie was a little on the dry side, though, and the steak was honestly underwhelming for a $120 price tag. The drinks were much more impressive: well-made, nicely balanced, and definitely on the sweeter side Service was definitely on point. They weren't constantly checking in, which I actually appreciated, but whenever we needed something, someone was there and very attentive. Everyone was also friendly and welcoming throughout the meal The ambiance leans more toward a bar-restaurant than traditional fine dining, but the interior has some classy design elements and definitely gives off that modern LA fine-dining feel I'd probably come back to try some of the other dishes before making a final judgment. There were definitely some highlights, and overall, I'd still say it's worth a visit if you're in the area -- just go in knowing the prices are on the higher side
