I go to barbecue hut at least once a week to curb my fried chicken addiction. This is the best fried chicken I have ever had in my life. Sorry grandma, but it's even better than yours. They have daily specials and some of the best pie and cake around. They usually have banana pudding, lemon cake, chocolate cake, and of course delicious carrot cake, and pecan pie . When you visit one of their locations, you feel right at home because the staff is so friendly and welcoming and on the ball. They usually have a line of patrons, but it never takes a long time to get your order because they are so efficient. BBQ restaurants absolutely must have that essential dive-y atmosphere to work properly, and the Hut does not disappoint here. But the food is where the rubber hits the road, and the Hut was on point. The 'Q was tender, flavorful and melt-in-your-mouth, with just the right seasoning to tickle the taste buds. Quaint little place. Not much to look at driving up but the food is pretty good. You order at the counter and then sit down in the dining area. I had the small pork plate with coleslaw and potato salad. The pork had a hint of vinegar sauce but not overpowering. The coleslaw was very finely crated with a great taste. The potato salad on the other hand was more like yellow colored mashed potatoes with pickle relish. This was not good. Worth a stop if you are close. read more

This restaurant has been around as far back as I can remember, and I go to it often. In the drive-thru, they have so many new people, about every 2 weeks, that the service is now poor. If you don't check your bags, you will likely not receive all of what you have paid for. So many times, this has happened to me, especially over the last 6 months. I don't blame the new inexperienced employee, but I do blame the owner who sets low wages. Mr/Ms. Owner: You get what you pay for. Offer better wages so you can hire an experienced drive-thru employee and not steal from the customers who pay for the products but do not receive them. Grew up patronizing the Ft Bragg Road location, which is some of the best barbecue Ive ever had. the food at the Ft Bragg Road location is alway hot and fresh and the staff is great. The Owen Drive location just isnt as good. Also, the menu isn't consistent at the Owen Drive location. Their BBQ chicken is suppose to be the special on Tuesdays, but of the past four Tuesdays I've gone, I've only gotten it once. Two times they said they ran out (before noon) and once I was told the manager decided not to have the bbq chicken on Tuesday. I have an hour for lunch and it takes me 15 minutes to get there, then I sit in line for another 15 only to be told they have no bbq chicken. Now I'm down to a 30 minute lunch, with 15 minutes of that being the commute back to my office. if you open at 10:30 and are out of your special by 12, maybe it's time to think about cooking more chicken on that day. There are 2 locations in Fayetteville. My hubby prefers the Owen Dr. location, but both are good. It is my absolute fav. fried chicken and the only NC BBQ that I can even take a taste of. It's a long drive for us, but we've been coming since 1992! All that matters are these facts: I ordered food; I received a wrong item; I ate one thanks from the plate; then, I figured out the wrong item was most likely pork and with its juices it contaminated the rest of my plate which I did not eat; I returned to The Barbecue Hut in my SUV from approximately 2 miles away; I requested reimbursement For my entire order, I noted the fact I had to return to that location on Fort Bragg Road driving an SUV and I knew they couldn't reimburse me for the gas; I was reimbursed for the plate except for the one thing I ate, not the tax, though I wasn't at fault for the wrong order. Of note, My Sister introduced me to this place when we ordered two days before the second negative encounter at this location. We ordered an eight piece white meat deal, not the meal. We're both budgeting Veterans; therefore, the eight pieces were to enable us to a second meal for the next day. We only only had six pieces when we opened the box, after we returned home. We were ripped off; mind you- it costs extra for the white meat only. This reminds me, I wasn't reimbursed for the plate being white meat only. I am well traveled. In fact, I'm not from North Carolina and I'm visiting here. This chicken is the best chicken I've tasted in my travels, in my home state, and where I retired. Don't get content with your cash flow and forget about consideration of others in customer service. more importantly, don't forget to give back to your Military community, if you care. My recommendation: figure out a way to become a place of business with Customer Service; then, train your employees. Also, find a way to show your gratitude for the Military Families in this Community. finally, your solution to reimbursing your customers who have to come back for what your business gets wrong is to reimburse them for the total order and grant gift certificate for their time and gas to return to for your business to get it right. I don't recommend this place because if you have an issue, like two pieces of chicken missing, you sure don't wanna have to drive all the way back to another long wait to get 3rd class customer service, nor do you want to give this business the opportunity to spit or do something else disgusting and deceitful to your food for them getting it wrong. read more

A pass at first glance but well worth stop! I was in town on business and this place was walking distance for lunch. There are apparently two locations, one is right near FTCC. The day I went they had the pork chop plate special, but I'd heard the fried chicken was good as well... so I got both. It was artery clogging Heaven! The fried pork chops were so tender and the grease was definitely not old or burnt and the pork chops didn't taste like chicken and vice versa, so not sure what they're doing back there but it's spot on. The large plates come with two sides, hush puppies and that day they had collard greens as one of the sides. The chicken snack was two pieces of chicken and a few hush puppies. They were out of carbonation that day so I opted out of their pepsi products. All in all it's a great, inexpensive bite to eat if you aren't trying to be health conscious. read more

We always stop at the Bar B Que Hut on Owen Dr. on our way to my parents house for Thanksgiving. The Q here is great, eastern NC style, but the Bar B Que Hut's is a tad more peppery than some eastern NC barbeque. The 'cue sandwich with slaw is great, as is the often overlooked fried chicken, maybe the best fried chicken I've ever had. But I'm such a fan of the 'cue I don't order it as much. Though it's owned by a Greek-American this place is a great southern joint. Not fancy, but with excellent barbeque, chicken, great slaw, and little batches of plainly served and displayed - yet heavenly - cups of 'nana pudding. As others have noted, sometimes the women at the register can be a little off, but remember they are in Fayetteville! Bar-B-Que Hut is one of the few things I miss about my home town. read more

I came to Fayetteville in 2008 and asked the hotel staff were to get good authentic barbeque and they recommended the Bar-B-Que Hut. I wasn't disappointed. The barbeque was genuine eastern NC style tender and vinegary. The sweet tea was just the way my grandmother used to make, sweet enough to rot your teeth out. The hushpuppies were perfect, slightly sweet perfect texture and moist. Today I returned to Fayetteville for the first time since and immediately went back to the Barbeque Hut. In addition to the pork barbeque I tried the fried chicken and the baked beans in addition to the cole slaw I remembered so well. Again, this place took me back to my grandmother's cooking, not greasy or dry, the chicken was perfect. You can't get anymore perfect barbeque, and the sweet tea is as good as I remember. As for the negative reviews...this is a hole in the wall neighborhood place. The best barbeque always comes from places like this, it's no frills. After my buddy chose a bad BBQ place last time, I read great reviews about the Barbeque Hut on yahoo and the one location on Bragg Blvd here on Yelp. But when we arrived to see the shack of a place it was in, and the empty parking lot, we questioned whether we had the right place or not. We went inside to give it the benefit of the doubt. Inside, it's rundown, or just a hole-in-the-wall type place, although I thought this was a chain restaurant since there are multiple locations. It reminded me of my Grandma's chinese take-out restaurant. The menu board was one of those old cheap kind where you place each lettter, and some of them were of different color because they ran out of a particular letter. This place just straight out costs too much. We were hoping to find some good, genuine North Carolina BBQ, but the food was not up to par. We paid around $8 for a drink and a styrofoam plate with one fried chicken breast, some pulled pork that had too much vinegar and not any typical bar-b-que sauce, some hush puppies (bite-sized fried cornbread ) and 2 scoops of our choice of side dishes. We could have gotten a bucket of KFC for half the price. That was the first and last time we'd be there. read more

The owner is the one working in the kitchen and is a very friendly guy. While the place itself is a little run down (yet very clean) the quality of the food and price more than make up for it. We decided to find a good BBQ place locally since we are missing good BBQ from back home. Googled and this place came up. We drove up and it looked like a hole in the wall place and were like this place looks like its going to be good. Step out of the car and we don't smell anything.... No smoke... No BBQ smells. Hmmm... Go inside and still no BBQ smells :/ Getting worried. So we get ready to order and I ask the lady what come on the BBQ Combo plate. Her response was BBQ and chicken. Hmmm... I was expecting and answer similiar to sliced brisket, pulled pork, or sausage and chicken. Okay. We each ordered a BBQ sandwich. Can't really mess that up.... So she goes both with coleslaw? None for me. I also tell her I do not want pickles or onions on my sandwich (typical items generally placed on a BBQ sandwich EVERYWHERE). She looked at me funny and said it doesn't come with those. Okay. We get our food. Sit down to eat. Look at the food. What the h*ll?? It was a bun (already soggy on the bottom just by us sitting down).... the meat looked like those microwavable BBQ meats that come in the red plastic containers, except without sauce. So it was a white-ish looking ?blob? of pulverized meat! It looked like they had put it through the food processor to serve to people with no teeth or little chewing ability. My husbands was the same except for the coleslaw. It looked like it was sawdust covered in mayo. There was maybe a tablespoon worth of it on his sandwich. I managed to get down most of the sandwich because I was starving.... The fries were fine. They were the crinkle cut ones you buy in the freezer section at the grocery store. I don't know what the other reviewers are expecting when they come here. It's Eastern Carolina style BBQ, which is pulled pork with vinegary sauce. You're not gonna get brisket here (although they did have ribs when I went in today, which surprised me). And all good BBQ that I've had ALWAYS comes from some crazy-looking shack. I LOVE this stuff. I don't really get any hint of smoke at all, but I just want the pork and the vinegar anyway. If I want smoky I'll smoke and pull it myself. Nothing's better than a soft burger bun stuffed with vinegar and pork so sloppy it falls apart midway through. With some coleslaw and fries and HUSHPUPPIES of course! Dang, if you get them fresh those hushpuppies are the best thing there. The sweet tea is good too. I prefer this location because it's close to where I live, but my sister likes the other location. Either way, this is the first place I hit whenever I come back here. Large plate with slaw, pups and fries and a sweet tea please! Obviously this place is a down home kind of hole in the wall, so the atmosphere is nothing fancy but the food (meat) was good! The fried chicken and BBQ was really . The hushpuppies and sweet tea were good too, but the potato salad and collard greens weren't all that great.. The breading on the chicken was very different from the norm and gave the chicken a great flavor. I think the first thing you have to know if you want bbq is what kind you want. There are two types of bbq native to NC. Eastern is mostly Vinegar. Lexington (I think that's the name) is vinegar and a tomato type sauce. I think they use a different cut of meat too. I grew up around this area and really only ever had Eastern NC bbq, so I prefer it. So, the reviews that talk about it being too much vinegar or no bbq just don't realize there's more than one type of NC bbq. If you like the vinegar bbq, then you'll love this. I'm not even a huge bbq fan, but I love this! I probably shouldn't give it 4 stars because it is a little run down after all these years. I used to go there as a kiddo, and it's about the same! I've been to the Bragg Blvd location twice and wasn't impressed at all, but after doing a little research on NC bbq, I decided to try it again in case my lack of knowledge caused me to miss something. The salty lady at the counter had a bit of an attitude, but wasn't rude. Kinda adds character to the place if you want to be positive about it. Got the large bbq plate with chicken. The bbq... I realized I wasn't missing anything the other two times I tried it. I just didn't think it was good at all. Pork is rather flavorless... there's the sweet tasting vinegar and pepper, which I could see but not really taste. There were some harder textured outer bits. But... it just tastes like it's missing something... or a lot. Eh... Fried chicken... was pretty darn good. Nice and crisp and salty. The breast was moist and tender. Hush puppies... nice corn taste... texture would've been better if it was straight out of the fryer. Slaw was finely chopped and refreshing. Potato salad was potato salad. Sweet tea was decent. The barbecue is alright, though not outstanding. It's appropriately moist and has a decent pork flavor with no smoke detectable. They offered straight cider vinegar and a darker vinegar as sauces.
