This eatery on the UC Riverside campus is a great place to go to get a quick, cheap and tasty meal. It has a nice outdoor eating area and I understand the bands that perform here rock. The hot wings and popcorn shrimp that I snacked on for about six bucks did not disappoint. For those who are wondering why I was at The Barn, I will proudly say that I am a UCR dad -- twice over. I love the barn. Being a Riverside native I've been going here since I could sneak in as kid. However, I moved outa town(moved to SD) for a few years and recently came back. Big changes! I saw the Album Leaf(big San Diego ambient/electro/indie band) on Jan 19th. I've seen them many times in SD, and I gotta say that this was their BEST SHOW! The sound quality blew me away, the digital effects were memorizing. Best of all, it was a small intimate crowd(I guess these new UCR students don't listen to music or see bands anymore, they must stay home and jerk off) I love the new renovations, it has a "House of Blues" feel, much different then it's old feel.... which was watching a show in an actual barn, lol. I didn't try the food, and why should I? This is a concert venue, not a food place. I stuck with my liquid diet of Rolling Rock beer and was very happy. The bartenders were friendly. read more

There are two great vegan options on the menu here, and also a vegan side dish. My favorite is the Garden Veggie Burger. It has sunflower sprouts and a veganaise aioli sauce that make it divine. As a new vegan, this place has become a lifesaver on campus. Not always the cleanest (especially outside where it looks like they haven't wiped the salt and pepper shakers down in ages), sometimes a really long wait. But when there is a long wait to get your food they still manage amid the chaos to get it out relatively quickly. read more

I used to only come here for Happy Hour and the only thing worth getting is the wings for $2.99. My favorites were the hoison zing and the parmesan garlic... even better than BWW's wings. Now... they don't even offer it anymore.... they offer wack boneless wings with crappy BBQ and buffalo sauce. Other items on the Happy Hour menu is the popcorn shrimp and tacos... but even then, those items suck too. Other than happy hour, I guess their entree items are good. I like the turkey burger. Mac and cheese was good, but it was a small portion for a big price. A lot of the regular menu items are too pricey for the quality and quantity. Take my advice and walk over to Getaway Cafe, where they serve a similar menu but it is much much much better. read more

The Barn is not only a dining option at UCR but also a place to go see some really rad shows. I went to see Wild Moccasins and Of Montreal play last week and was very impressed with the show! They completely transformed the restaurant into a mini concert venue, complete with lights, quality speakers and a stage. The staff served food and drinks throughout the show, which was nice. I was a little bummed to discover that they no longer serve beer, as this was known as the only alcohol serving venue on campus. Anyways, their food was decent, nothing amazing, but definitely a step up from what you find over at the HUB. I would recommend The Barn, especially for their concert series. read more

Very disappointed. My wife and I went, she got a turkey burger, I got an 1/3 lb Angus burger. First off, they forgot both of our sauces on the burgers. Hers was supposed to have chipotle mayo, mine was supposed to have thousand island. We had to ask about it, then the waitress brought us two thousand islands. We had to go and get the chipotle mayo. Then, there was my burger. It was a pre-packaged burger like you find at Mc Donalds so it was definitely not worth the $7 I paid for it. If you're going to charge that much, at least use a real burger patty. Worst of all, though, it was burnt to a crisp. It was rock hard and black, so I brought it back to the kitchen. They returned 10 minutes later with another burnt burger. I didn't even bother giving it back that time. It's unfortunate having to pay that much money to eat food that's gross. I work on campus, so it would be nice to be able to eat there, but not if they can't even figure out how to make a hamburger. I guess I'll go down to Carl's Jr. I can get a much better burger for 1/3 of the cost. Sorry. read more

Tired of dorm food? Don't know where to eat for lunch? Head over to the Barn. This is located at UC Riverside and you can't miss it. It is near the HMNSS buldings. You can use your dining dollars if you're on a meal plan. If you don't have dining dollars you can use cold hard cash and credit cards to pay for your meal. If you want to get your beer fix, you can do it here! This is the only place on campus where you can drink! You cannot take your booze with you to class. There is a Happy Hour too! Go drink before you attend your night class. The food here is actually good and doesn't taste like the dorm food. I haven't been here in a while but I know the food is awesome. My roommates and I would eat here at least twice a month. We had nothing better to do anyways. They also sometimes have live bands and different programs going on. Usually the lines can get busy but you have to pick when you go. If you go around lunch time it is packed. Every student has a different schedule so if you're looking for a quick bite and you come around the lunchtime rush, forget coming here. Go to the new commons. If you go to UC Riverside, try out the Barn. It is definitely a lot better than the dorm food. I guess I have to visit this place at some point because i haven't been back since I graduated. Parking is in the surrounding parking lots. You need a parking permit or you can pay by space. It is up to you. read more

The barn is my favorite place to eat on campus! It's pricey just like the rest of the food places on campus but eating here once in a while is worth it. Issue: I've noticed that recently they've been making their fries portions much smaller than before. The prices also increased. I don't come to eat here as often anymore because of this. Food: I think the quality of the food has also depreciated. I would get the Third pound angus chuck burger because it was juicy and flavorful, now it's kind of dry and Its been served to me burnt as well. I also like their sandwiches, the BLT and the ham sandwich with bacon are also good. Service: Wait staff is very nice and helpful. The barn does get packed around noon/lunch time but they do their best to get your meal served to you within an appropriate wait time. Warning: The lounge in the barn or that extra room smells like mold. I don't know if it's because the barn isn't new or because of the carpet, but I don't like to eat there because the smell is very unpleasant. The only time I came here was during happy hour the reason being cus it was too hot during the day to venture cross campus to get food. and two it was happy hour. I see the regular food and tried some of my friends, i say it's average, definitely better then latitude. But for what they're serving i think its a tad bit over priced. It is the only place to get drinks on campus tho, unless you count get away cafe which is technically off campus. My experience with the happy hour menu is a good one. The sliders are good and the fries, the wings are iffy, i don't really like them but some of my friends just like digging into them, i think they're microwaved. This place is definitely a better place for food in terms of UCR dining. They are a step up from places like the dorms and the HUB. Though it will be a notch below Arroyo Vista Cafe that's located just down the street. They recently (earlier this year) changed the menu. The Barn is hands down the best restaurant on campus. If you're parents are stopping by for a visit, this is a great alternative to A-I or Lothian and really lets you put those dining dollars to work. Located out by Humanities and Sproul, The Barn offers outdoor seating with misters for the 364 days of the year when it's hot in Riverside. The food is tasty and runs for about as much as food anywhere else on campus. I personally love the spicy chicken sandwich, but the mac and cheese is good too. For those ambitious individuals, this is a favorite spot of professors and TA's, so if you're looking to rub elbows, this is the place to do it. The service here is also very good, and there's usually some sort of music event going on in the evenings. Only downside is that they've stopped serving alcohol :( read more

Nowadays, the Barn is probably hands down, the best UCR run place to get lunch on campus. It used to be one of the best overall before they brought in the private food vendors. It is still a cool place to get a good lunch and avoid the crowds at the HUB. My favorite item I usually order is the turkey club wrap with a side salad or fries. It is always a delicious choice and I leave feeling pretty full. Avoid the standard lunch times if you don't want to wait in line to order. This on-campus restaurant at UCR is definitely different since 2017-2018. The food is mediocre to be honest, I got the Buffalo Sandwich meal with fries. The fries needed more salt and seasoning, while the sandwich was actually not half bad. I was generously given a sandwich for free since they had a promotion for UCR students, but I'll keep this one for the books. I don't know if they'll be able to compete with The Habit on campus, but eh it's okay and service was fast! read more

They take sooo long. I am a staff member at the campus and they took 15 minutes to give me a cup of soup. I asked for broccoli cheddar and they gave me chowder soup. The soup pot is near the utensils and they still took almost twenty minutes to package this to go. They give decent service, but the wait time is horrendous. Last week I went because this is the nearest area to dine during the lunch hour and they took twenty two minutes to give me a chicken salad. Terribly disappointed. Not going back again. Before the Alumni Center was built and the Commons was finished, the Barn and the Getaway were just about all UCR had for restaurants where you'd get together with friends, as opposed to grab-and-go style meals. As a result, I used to frequent this place fairly regularly and am left with some mixed feelings. I love their strawberry lemonade, but even after eating here over a dozen times, I can't remember a dish I actually loved. Their food is good, but to me going to The Barn was more about the environment -- being tucked near orange trees and feeling somewhat distanced from anything, even though it's not far from the CHASS buildings. For me, it was far enough away from my classes that I felt like I could unwind, but close enough that I could dash back for another class after lunch. They also do all sorts of free concerts here in early evening, but since I never went to any the review is just about the food. read more
