Service was good so they deserved more than 1 star for that. The food was garbage! Bacon was over cooked to the point it left that chalky burned bacon consistency and taste in your mouth. Gross Biscuits and gravy was just a salty mess of gravy with no flavor other than salt covering mushy undercooked biscuits that I'd have to assume were canned biscuits not made In house. If they were made from scratch in house then they need a new recipe. The food was disgusting and I left half on the plate. Forced enough down my throat to not be hungry this morning but no point eating any extra of that gross mess. read more

Delicious breakfast/brunch at a historic farm in Crestwood. Quiche was excellent (sausage/mushroom), little V's pancakes were fluffy and full of vanilla flavor. Mrs V had a delicious florentine, and friend with us had a delicious sweet quiche (apple/cinnamon I believe). Really solid food, nice ambience, friendly staff with no wait for coffee refills. So why 4 stars? It was an accumulation of little things: empty table side condiment bottles , and their replacements were almost as empty, slightly disorganized staffing: we had three different servers throughout the meal, and extras such as bacon and tomatoes while delicious were extremely pricey. I went here for breakfast before leaving town to head home. Ridiculous! The food was incredible. I had biscuits and gravy, and it has to be some of the best, if not the best, outside of homemade. The only place I can think of that even remotely compares is a small place out in Oregon. The bacon was crisp and tasty, and the eggs and hasbrowns were insane. The service was quick, even though they were really busy, and they had no trouble accommodating a mid-sized group (~8 people) without advance warning. Things were getting busier as we left, so there were some people that had to wait while we finished. One of the interesting things that we missed until we heard someone else's order is that they serve Bloody Mary in the morning. They were not on the menu, but if you looked at the flower display in the middle of the table, they had some morning adult drinks that you may find interesting. Don't be afraid to ask! read more

The service was a little rushed and somewhat cold/disengaged, but not outright unfriendly. After receiving food, server did not check in. Found a foreign bit of non-food in my quiche; had to wait longer than I hoped for her to come back, despite multiple attempts to get her attention (it was a little noisy). Quiche was replaced, but apology was short and shallow. Probably won't be back. There are better options nearby. read more

Wow. Because of the Yelp reviews, we had very high hopes. My son was playing in a baseball tournament and we had two hits to kill between games. We arrived a couple minutes after 10:00 on a Sunday morning. The place was 75% full, busy but not slammed. We arrived at the same time as two other couples and we're all seated near each other. I told my son to go wash his hands and that I'd order drinks. He went and returned. I then went and washed up and came back, still nobody took our drink order. About ten minutes after being seated, a server (who had been talking to what I assume was her young daughter for the past five minutes) takes our drink order. She quickly comes back with our drinks and takes the food order for one of the tables that were seated when we were. We were ready to order, but she then went to the kitchen. We waited. She then starts running food for other tables. I understand, no big deal. But then she goes back behind the hostess station and starts talking to the young girl again. Finally, she comes back and takes our order, along with the other table that we were seated with. My coffee cup was completely empty for about five minutes when she brought the food and check for the table next to us. I asked for a refill, she obliged, and then disappeared for another ten minutes. My son's orange juice was completely empty. The couple with food, finished, paid, and left... Still no food. My coffee was empty again. Still, no food. 45 minutes after ordering, our food and check show up, my coffee is refilled, my son was given a glass of ice water, and we have hopes of salvaging this experience. Over-medium eggs were cooked hard, one slice of bacon was black and the other two were medium at best, the hash browns were browned on the outside but raw in the middle. My son's "chocolate and banana French toast" was plain French toast with a few banana slices and some chocolate icing. To top it off, there was a hair on my plate under my bacon. I was going to complain, but my server was now on the phone and we only had 20 minutes left of our two hour window. I threw some cash on the table and we walked out. We really wanted to like this place, but it was not a good experience. I love family run restaurants and seek them out whenever possible. Classy, charming place to splurge on a special breakfast. Not your grandfather's barn (mainly because it is a nice restaurant). Delicious eggs benedict and hashbrowns. We were looking for a new place for breakfast as a treat for my mom. I picked this place even though it was a 15-minute drive. It was a bit of a wait, but overall an excellent experience. Good service, very good food, great ambiance (which, on a rainy gray Sunday is hard to pull off!). They didn't rush us out even though they were busy. Love the bar options - my screwdriver was excellent. Hubs had the Barn Door which he really enjoyed. Mom and I had sandwiches on excellent, homemade whole grain bread. We'd definitely come back. I went by myself after Mass and was very nicely received. I was offered a wait or chance to sit at the bar. Bartender was nice and took my drink order right away. Soon after, she took my meal order. It was delivered by a waitress who was so darling! Food order was accurate and so good. Only complaints were that the barnbrowns were raw and just tasted like raw taters with oil! Also, I ordered extra Hollandaise Sauce and it was ice cold! It really wasn't a big issue because the side of sausage gravy was literally as good as my own, and that is GOOD!!! We had ordered Decaf coffee and she tried to refill it at least twice with regular ,we explained what we were drinking ,she proceeded to school's on the fact that she had 30 customers (no where near that !) I was surprised to hear about the Barn, considering I frequent The Shack and Egg and I and most of the other brunch locations in the area. Why hadn't anyone recommended it to me? Now I think I know why. Service started out ok, the server asking for our order the moment we sat down. I looked for mimosas and didn't see them on the menu, so I didn't order one. Once I saw other tables with them, I looked around for our server. 20 minutes passed, then we got our food. I requested that the server come back to the person who brought our food. The eggs Benedict was fine except the muffin was over cooked and impossible to cut into. The grits were slimy and tasteless. We finished eating and still no sign of our server. After sitting for another 10 minutes someone took our plates and dropped off the check. In summary, food wasn't worth the high cost and service was poor. read more

Seriously, I don't understand why this spot has any good reviews, considering our entire breakfast experience was crap. So...this place only serves breakfast & lunch, and offers a small, limited selection. A cafe with fewer food options, IMO, is ideal: focus on a few items, and perfect them all. Unfortunately, that's not the case at The Barn. I'll just start from the door, since, they were a mess from the time we entered the door. Walking into the restaurant, you're in an open area with bar space on left & short order kitchen on the right. Advertised as "quaint & cozy", this qualifies if you mean small & woody, since the bar & interior seating are constructed of basic, dated, lacquered wood. Not inviting or quaint. We assumed we would eventually be seated since we noticed something that appeared to be a small cluttered hostess station, though no employees greeted us, and no signage regarding seating. When someone arrived and blankly stared at me, (no greeting or apology for the wait) she seemed put out that she had to ASK the number to be seated. Not a great start if she is hosting. After seating, we didn't have any communication from our server for awhile, and this is a very small area with tight seating. He walked by our table several times, but failed to make any contact to tell us he'd be a minute, or even acknowledge we were there, and it was a good amount of waiting time. When he actually first came to our table, again, no greeting, just blankly asked if we knew what we wanted. In addition to food & beverages, I asked for water. Again, an unusually long wait for beverages. After coffee arrived, we never saw this server dude again. I initially thought he was just taking the orders, but, at the end of our meal, he actually came back to give us the check. It was like he got sent to another station, or took a break. Weird. On to the meal... food was delivered by another person, who placed it on the table, promptly & left without asking us if we needed anything else. I had basic barn breakfast (2 eggs, toast, bacon, & hash browns) & my husband had pancakes. His pancakes were heavy & hard. I had to stop a random server & tell her about the pancakes. She apologized & took them away. It seems that this server was now taking our table service. I started in on my meal & shared my bacon with my husband while he waited for his replacement pancakes. So, about my meal...the bacon was tasty, & cooked perfectly, but, that was the only positive thing about the entire meal. My rye bread wasn't really toasted; the crust was hard, but the rest of the bread was actually kind of soggy from the butter (or oil?) that was applied. Really? Who gets toast wrong??? The hash browns were overcooked & dry, barely able to cut into them. The eggs were edible, but, they were room temp, and not a fluffy scramble, but, they must have just left them on the griddle, then folded them at bit while plating. Any food that I was going to eat, was pretty much gone by the time my husband's food arrived (I left 1/2 the hash browns & 3/4 of the toast). No butter on our table, and none was delivered with my husband's pancakes, so, another waiting game to ask for butter. Oh, and by the way....can I get that water now???? There were 3 pancakes and bacon. My husband ate his bacon, and because he was HUNGRY, he finished 1 pancake. There was something seriously off with the pancakes. Again, they were pretty dense, and the flavor was off. The menu did not specify anything unusual about the pancakes, not wheat, or anything out of the norm, just crappy. Maybe the batter was old. I would have asked, but, nobody EVER came back to ask us anything....not before, or after my husband's pancakes went back. The server who 'adopted' our table did, however, apologize twice and commented that we would not be charged for my husband's food, and she really saved the restaurant from a 'come to jesus' moment. However, when our plates were removed, it was evident that plenty of food was left uneaten, especially the pancakes my husband had waited on, and no questions were asked about the food. Even if the food is miserable, sometimes a restaurant experience can be forgiven with extra great service, but, they don't even have these basics down. The very least they could do is have a staff member taking care of beverages: if water is wanted, or circulating with carafe of coffee for refills. They weren't super busy, not full capacity, and open entering, we noticed 2-3 staffers standing idly behind the bar. While were were waiting to be seating, we didn't see any management circulating, or anyone really seeming to be in charge (this includes the hostess, who will sometimes take on several of these duties). The restaurant is in an excellent location, right on the Grant's bike trail, and we saw a lot of bike activity. Without this location, and hungry bikers needing to replenish, I doubt this place would still be in business. read more

I have had breakfast there on two occasions, once with a large group during the week and once with one other person on a Sunday morning. The food is excellent and there is a good selection. On Sunday morning when the place is full , expect a long delay before food gets to you since their kitchen is rather small. But the wait is worth it. I recommend their quiche and hash browns. The German chocolate cake was one of the best I've had. This place gets 3 stars because of the service. The team approach doesn't work well. We had 5 different servers taking orders, delivering food, giving refills and settling the bill with us. It gets a little tiresome when someone asks you if we've been helped a couple of times and tells us the dessert menu a few times. Seems inefficient. We paid for our meal, and our original server stopped by to ask us (in a condescending tone) if we had a chance to think about dessert-- clearly seeing we had to-go containers with dessert. We told her we ordered dessert. She essentially blamed US for not telling her to add It to our ticket. We couldn't tell what we were paying for on the ticket because there were no descriptions and it is not our fault it wasn't communicated by the 5th employee who helped us and delivered the dessert. No reason to be rude to us. The restaurant would probably have better service if one server took care of each section. read more
