This place is a wonderful place to grab some brunch. The place is pretty small, but they make good use of the space, and they basically have a rotating waitstaff technique where basically any member of the staff can help you at any time. That allows you to always get service when you need it, and I think it's a pretty good concept. I like to get their crawfish eggs benedict. They are packed with flavor, and are very filling. It is a great start to a Sunday funday. Their mimosas are really fresh and tasty as well. My biggest complaint is just how dang uncomfortable their seating is. They are going for the look of something cute and rustic, but when they end up with is about the most uncomfortable thing you can imagine to sit on. Neat place. The food is great. My wife and I split both Benedicts. Difficult to say which one was better, but we were both impressed with the cajun crawfish version. The hash browns, which are cut very fine, and grits are also both excellent. We got there around 12:30p on a Sunday so they were busy. The service here could be better. They use a team approach so you don't see your server as often. If you know this, all you have to do is stop one of the other employees. One will continuously walk by the table. We went in December. I cannot believe the experience I had at this establishment. I went to The Barn on recommendation from a friend because I just moved up here from Kansas. We were seated at a table by the host. We sat at the table for over 15 minutes with NO-ONE coming to our table with a glass of water or a how are you. Mind you during this time we were two of 3 African Americans in the establishment. I watched patiently as waiters and waitresses brought food, took checks, and converse at the front not 6 feet apart and one gentlemen in a blue shirt had his mask down. Then a white couple walks in. They were seated in an adjacent corner to us. Within 2 minutes they were greeted, asked how they were, and their drink order is taken. At this point I am done being ignored when I came to have a drink and try their food. I got up and left and spoke the manger that gave a disinterested apology for the behavior of her whole staff. Multiple people saw us the venue wasn't large, and no one bothered getting a paying customer a water or salutations, human decency is to speak. I am appalled at this in 2021. I write this review to inform those that may want to try this establishment of the treatment they may receive if you are a person of color. read more

We have been wanting to try The Barn and today was the perfect opportunity. I love the ambience with the option to sit outside and beautiful view of the Sappington house and lake. We waited to be seated though there were empty tables. Took a bit of time to have drink orders taken along with meal orders. The coffee really hit the spot. I would probably not order the pancakes again because they were on the dry side and not tasty. I ate about half a pancake because I was hungry. The link sausage was very good and like when links are on a menu. The others at our table had French toast, which was devoured along with the great option of Apple Butter sitting on the table. The other meal ordered was eggs, biscuits and gravy and grits. The biscuits were a nice size and covered with gravy. I asked how the grits were and "ok" was the response. It was noted that butter should have been brought to the table with the meals. I'm not a grits eater, but understand it makes grits better. I rated 3 stars because of the wait to be seated and amount of time for orders to be taken along with the pancakes not being great. We plan to return to try again. read more

My family had reservations for brunch after our son's baptism and after waiting for 30 minutes outside to get our table, were told that we had too many in our party to accommodate. I had made a reservation for 12 adults plus we had two children and a baby. After saying they were told we only had 10 in our party (not true), they squeezed us into such a tight space there was no way it would work. I was then told that we'd have to wait even longer if we wanted to split up our party because they had a wait list. The manager was beyond rude and our whole party ended up leaving and going down the road to another restaurant that was more than happy to have our patronage, no reservation even necessary. This is the second time I have had terrible service here and I will not be going back ever again. I will also be letting others know of my experience as well. This place has such potential but is such a disappointment. --In response to the comment from The Barn, thank you for proving my point about being rude. Again, I would advise others to steer clear of this place. When the reservation was made I obviously included children in my reservation, this is not the first time I have eaten at a restaurant, thanks for the tip though. It is not my fault that your hostess incorrectly counted our party size TWICE. And it is also not my fault that you kept our party waiting 30 minutes after our reservation time. The sandwich-of-the-day special was good...a grilled, but not hot, turkey and ham on a sort of French toast bread...but hot would've helped. The beef veggie soup--good taste but, again, not hot as it should've been. The Barn Browns were merely meh. Coconut cream pie, while very tasty and pretty, was very shy on coconut flavor. Hard to pick how many stars? Service 0. Food 3-4? Our 1st time here. Hostess doesn't smile. Didn't take names until the tiny entrance was jam-packed with new arrivals. An unsmiling waitress pushed past us grumbling about the number of people coming in. Got seated. Waitress turned from neighboring table to ask what cocktail she could get for us. We had looked at menu while waiting to be seated so placed our order then. Waitress asked us twice what did we order for beverage?? Food came. No juice. No coffee. No water. Flagged down passing hostess who brought one juice & one coffee. Had to be told we both wanted juice & coffee. Also had to ask for missing salsa on 1 plate. No offer of coffee refills. Don't waste your time. Just went to this place for the second time, figuring maybe the first time was just a bad day for them. And also, because I really wanted to like the place being that it's close to my home, and also because of their nice little patio with a view of a pretty pond and the old Sappington house. Boy was I wrong. This place is a mess. The food is actually pretty good, the gravy is outstanding, the service however, brings this place all the way down to TERRIBLE, hell-like status. From what I could gather our server was one of the owners. Whoever she was, she certainly could care less that we were there. As could everyone else that worked there, aside from the hostess, who maybe still didn't care that much, but at least was friendly. To everyone else our presence seemed to be an inconvenience. The fact that there was no silverware at the table was not a big deal, the real problem was when we asked our waitress for some so we could stir our coffee we were gruffly told, "i'll get you some whenever they roll some up."This coming on the heels of waiting far too long for her to come over and ask us if we were ready to order at all -- no greeting either, once she did arrive, nor was there mentioning of what the specials were, nor after bringing us our food, did she ask us if we needed anything else. And it wasn't just us that had problems, I watched other tables wait for far too long to be asked what they wanted to drink, etc. And to be treated gruffly. A lot of this would have been understandable had they been really busy. They weren't. Aside from the poor dispositions and general attitudes of nearly everyone that worked there, the bigger problem was no one seemed to really know what they were doing. Leadership starts at the top and these people were no doubt frustrated at the lack of direction and the chaos it leads to while simply trying to do their jobs. Would have been a fun episode of Kitchen Nightmares watching Gordon Ramsay try to whip those people into shape. Not as much fun to experience in person. Another couple things that sucked: A different, yet equally bitchy waitress (the owner waitress' daughter) bumped her butt into the corner of our table three times, spilling my wife's coffee twice. She casually said, "sorry" one of the three times, though it was clear in her tone that she wasn't. Later, I saw the same waitress sit down at the table next to us to take their order. It was obvious she didn't know them, so it wasn't like she was visiting friends on the job... Also also, due to the terrible layout of the place, us and several other tables had a clear view of the drink station. Which is how we saw our waitress reaching her finger into the inside of an already full drink and wiping a smudge out. We waited ten minutes for someone to give us our check which is crazy if you could see how our table was practically on top of the waitress station, and since our waitress walked by us several times. In the end, I simply got up and went to the register. After requesting the check, the bump-ass waitress from earlier, casually tossed it at me with no apology, no thank you after I signed the check, actually without commenting at all. It was like we were never there. I'm sure she was just glad to get another customer out of her work space. Our presence no doubt makes her and her coworkers job a lot harder. One last add on: the whole time all this inept service was going on, while we sat there waiting for a server to take our order, while we sat there waiting and waiting for our check, the husband of the waitress owner, sat there putting silverware into napkins, no more than fifteen feet away, facing us. I have little doubt he saw how unhappy we were and heard the remarks about the service but he did or said nothing to his wife to make it better. It doesn't get any worse than that. Loved the atmosphere and the food was good, however our waitress was pretty rude and the food took about 45 min to get to us when we only got two salads, biscuits and gravy, and a cup of soup. This is the place to go for breakfast. I'm from out of state but The Barn is going to be a regular place for me when I'm in town. The service is extraordinary, they work together to make sure I always had a what I needed. It was really fun too because they had music playing from Pitch Perfect and they all sang and danced along. This establishment is located off the beaten path in Crestwood. Beautiful restaurant and great service. The Egg Salad/BLT sandwich was excellent. First visit, group of five for brunch. Two of us had the Starta, which was pretty good. Others had basic breakfast items and a salad, hard to mess up. Need to try a few more things but so far mostly pleased if not excited. One suggestion is to please reduce grease/oil on hash browns. They were all absolutely drenched in it, and I see no excuse at all for that. My husband and I ate dinner at The Barn and had an incredible experience. Our food was delicious, the atmosphere was cozy, the staff very friendly and attentive, and the prices were very reasonable. We started with an order of grit sticks, which are like the best cheesy tater tot (minus the tater) with a yummy dipping sauce. The order was huge for the two of us, but we managed to eat them all. For my dinner I ordered the spinach & artichoke quiche with a side salad and fresh steamed veggies. The crust was flaky and buttery and the the filing was quiche perfection. It was such a large serving, I took half of it home with me! My husband ordered the Missouri grass-fed burger. He asked for it to be cooked medium and that's exactly what he received. A perfectly cooked, seasoned, and delicious burger. The bacon on top looked incredible too. We ended up ordering 2 desserts (it was too hard to choose just one), the Carrot Cake Cheese Cake and the Bread Pudding. The Carrot Cake Cheese Cake + Cinnamon icing, is amazing. You need this dessert in your life if you have never tried it. Again, the serving was huge and we got to take 1/2 of it home with us! The Bread Pudding was warm and gooey and came in a small ramekin, which was perfect for the decadent sweet treat. Obviously the food left a big impression on us (in size and taste) but the staff is what really impressed me. Immediately when we walked in we were greeted, promptly seated, and our drink order taken. The food came out very quickly and our drinks were always full. I would give this a 3 and my boyfriend would give it a 5. I think there is nothing special about the food here, and I could probably make you breakfast. However, my boyfriend raves about the biscuits and gravy (I don't like gravy). The service is hit or miss, mostly miss.
