We just tried The Basil for the first time tonight and had a wonderful meal! The restaurant is clean and inviting. The service was warm and friendly, and everything we ate was great! Egg rolls (5) were good. Tom Yum soup was delicious. The broth was great, with lots of vegetables. The Panang Curry with chicken was smooth and spicy. The Chicken Pad Thai was balanced and the noodles were great! Everything was piping hot and came out quickly. Delighted to say that we have found our new go-to Thai spot

The best Thai for your buck in the South Bay area. The prices are not ridiculous - they even have good $12 lunch specials. But the execution & flavors of their dishes are on par with the fancy schamncy spots. By far my favorite dish is their Drunken Noodles with Tofu - always super flavorful, aromatic, and spicy. I do eat meat but the texture of the tofu is great with the noodles. Another standout is their spicy eggplant with tofu - not oily or overcooked and very yummy. The pad see ew and wonton soup were not bad, just basic. And I was sad that they forgot the bok choy in our soup. Hits the spot if you're craving it though. Most of their stir fried dishes have a lot of smoky undertones. I enjoy it but it might be overpowering for others (like my noodle loving toddler who surprisingly rejected the pad see ew). When you dine in, they are super accomodating for little ones. Cute little reusable cups, special utensils and very clean high chairs. Love how spacious the place is inside and the team is super welcoming and attentive.

Yellow curry and smallest rice ever!

The food taste was ok. Not the best ever, but good for the price. However I had two issues. One is that the Medium curry they gave us had the chili paste at the bottom of the container and it hasn't been stirred in yet. So at first it was very mild, then we noticed, stired it and then enjoyed what we ordered. Next time please stir the spice into the food. But the biggest thing is that the rice portion they gave us for takeout was ridiculously small. Smalest rice container over ever seen. In 40 plus years on the planet I didn't know a rice container this small existed. I was this many days old. It also makes no sense because rice is so cheap, just give a normal sized rice and don't be so chintzy. I might come back but will probably look for other places too.

Price is more expensive than the menu

Lunch menu states different prices and it's really higher cost when you pay. Portion of food is like a kids meal.

Ah, Thai food. How have I missed thee! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=06XeAZvi3gDd_PQ8TcsDYQ&userid=xsT4KZTu_KnOVavtuXn4RA Formerly Thai Basil many moons ago, when 7 Seas Tropical Fish was the main tenant of the plaza, The Basil bangs out delicious Thai food at a affordable price. Stopping by for lunch, I perused Thai Basil's $10.95 lunch specials (additional for beef/shrimp/brown rice/fried rice), and chose pad thai. Being the national dish of Thailand, it's the de facto bar which all Thai restaurants can be judged by. Lunch Special Pad Thai https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=CjZOfvm46Vqu5PdCtzUuAw&userid=xsT4KZTu_KnOVavtuXn4RA Tangy & bright, which good pad thai should be. The generous amount of food was pleasing to my tummy. I relished each forkful of noodles. The included vegetable egg roll was crunchy, whereas the salad was a typical iceberg lettuce salad. At $10.95, this meal was a bargain. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=hxspdJzIjRY91FqwPagC9w&userid=xsT4KZTu_KnOVavtuXn4RA Service was good. The food didn't take long, at all. Ample seating via booths & tables, The Basil shares a private parking lot, and is locate on the right of The Donut Place. With prices rising on just about everything, The Basil's $10.95 lunch specials are a sight for sore eyes & stomachs. I was thoroughly impressed by their pad thai, and am looking forward to frequenting the restaurant more, as Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines, and I always wonder why I don't partake of it more often? Knowing the $10.95 price may not last long, considering everything going on in the world, I plan on taking advantage of it often & again. Highly recommend!

A portion of white rice that is so tiny, that the container fits INSIDE a 1 cup measuring cup.

Extremely small portions for the price. I have never seen such a tiny portion of white rice with a curry. About enough for 4 big bites? I have had many family dinners at this restaurant over decades, but recent changes have made this delivery order ridiculous. Very disappointed, because while the food is delicious the portions for delivery are laughable.

So, I've been coming to this location since 1997. I bought an old school discount book and Thai Basil was in it. I got hooked on Pad See Ewe (that's my favorite Thai dish). My family would come on Sunday's after church and enjoy dinner. The owner and his family would also be in the dining room enjoying their meal. My kids loved the cashew shrimp and fried rice. Though I have continued to visit throughout the years, the restaurant has now changed ownership. On the positive side, the portions are good and the value is good. The food has changed. The Pad See Ewe was tasty but super oily. They use to have chips with sweet and sour sauce- they don't have this anymore so I ordered the fried wontons. The wontons were super greasy as if they did not drain the oil before plating them. The sweet and sour sauce is a different color too. I just wish the Pad See Ewe tasted the same. The service is still good and the restaurant has had some simple upgrades. Not sure if I will be back. Maybe just for the nostalgia of what was- Family, Food and A Full Heart.

Exceptional service, DELICIOUS food, and calming ambiance. I go to Thai restaurants often. This was my first time here and I am very delighted and satisfied. The servers were really nice and the food was so good. Definitely a recommended new spot.

The glass noodles with the pork and vegetables were on point. Hopefully next time they won't be so stingy with the pork. Other than that, the flavors were all there.

Kin was one of the only restaurants open until 10 PM. We were seated right away, and somehow the five of us sat in a private room. It was kind of late for me to eat anything really heavy so I just have my usual salad and it was the beef tenderloin salad. They serve it up with a lot of beef and less veggies. The beef itself was a little chewy and in large pieces. I prefer the meat to be cut a little smaller and would like more lettuce and cucumber. I got a little taste of the spicy fried rice, which was really good. Some of us ordered Thai tea and didn't expect what we received, which was the tea with a Thai tea popsicle. What a treat! The Thai tea itself was pretty standard, but that popsicle was like the icing on a cake. The places, modern and clean. Staff is helpful and nice. Some places cannot get their broth right which does make a major difference. Sometimes it ends up being too watery and defected the purpose. Here, the broth is perfect. Also any of their curries is excellent. This time we went with the massaman curries. Nice thick broth with peanuts, potatoes, onion and carrots in a coconut sauce. Another flavorful dish. A classic Long Beach spot!…read more I've been going here with my family for many years growing up and their food has always been good. They have a good selection of options so there's likely going to be something for everyone. Highly recommend the Thai boat noodles - the broth is very rich and flavorful, definitely in my top 5. I will say that service can be very inconsistent. From my more recent experiences (multiple visits across the last year or two), I noticed a pattern where the servers are quick to seat you and take your order, but then you don't hear from them again until you flag them down (if you need anything or want to get the check, for example). I'm not saying that check-ins throughout the meal are required, but they would be nice gestures. Also having to wait around to contact a server just to pay can be a bit inconvenient... The ambiance is nice, it has modern decorations and there's a good amount of interior seating. I will add that it's mostly street parking in the front but they have a small parking lot in the back, including a rear entrance. Overall, good food, 50/50 service, still would come back.

Now I know why they put it in a plastic bag when delivered. The sauce spilled in the bag. I had to pour it back in the container when opened. I don't think that's very sanitary or even proper way for the sauce to be put in the papaya salad. They could have at least put the sauce in a separate container for me to add. Food: -Green papaya salad (som tom): Like I said the sauce spilled all in the bag (see pic). Other than that, it was really good. It has a little kick to it. But I feel like the sauce could have been served on the side. -House special crispy pork belly: It was really delicious. It has good flavor. The breading on the pork gives it a nice crunch and pairs well with the sauces provided. -Roti with peanut dipping sauce: The texture of the roti was really soft with an easy bite. And it pair well with the peanut sauce we got. The peanut sauce was a little bit liquidy for my liking, but overall it had a good taste. Rey peanut forward. -Pad Thai with shrimp: The noodles were cooked perfect. The noodles on the bottom however did stick together (after it sits there for a while). But once you mix everything, you get a good bite - the noodles, bits of egg, bean sprouts. I do wish there was an option to request more lemon/lime. I like to add a lot on mine. I definitely recommend this place. Their menu also had a lot of other yummy food options to choose from.
