Best Thai food in town, have had it now multiple times and it's great! Fried rice, Drunken noodles and Pad Thai. Came here on a whim after an event in Carson and both my aunt and I were slightly disappointed. On a freezing day in Carson City, we ordered a pot of tea to share, but it came in these tiny cups that immediately made the tea cold after pouring it out. Since I had a sweet tooth, I ordered the Thai iced tea, and it wasn't really strong as I normally expect it. I never stray from my pad see ew order and had it with shrimp, while my aunt had it with beef. Both of us just thought it was okay, and the salad it came with was slightly disappointing. The salad had a peanut dressing that was really bland and neither of us touched it after the first bite. I too found the server that was there kind of rude and off-putting as mentioned by another reviewer. I was lucky to stumble across this place. Carson City/Reno does not have vegan/vegetarian restaurants so my next best option was to locate an Asian restaurant. I Yelped Thai restaurants in/near Carson City and The Basil popped up. The reviews looked great, so I gave it a shot. Well not immediately because they are closed on Sundays. But that following Monday I ordered veggie and tofu green curry to go with brown rice and MAN OH MAN was I blown away. The depth of flavor and the amount of food they give you is outstanding. It came with eggplant, basil, green beans, snap peas, carrots, asparagus, bok choy, squash and more. Service was nice (although I can only speak for pick-up order), parking is a hassle, (it's in the middle of downtown Carson City) and the place was packed (the place is small and quaint). The only suggestion I have for my meal is for them to cut the veggies into smaller pieces, but being given huge chunks of veggies is not a bad thing, just a little cumbersome when you are ravenous. I highly recommend this Thai restaurant if you are ever in Carson City and want some GREAT food. This place is in my top 3 Thai restaurants. Soo glad Yelpers led me here. read more

I liked The Basil Restaurant, but if Moo Dang is my 5 Star Thai - the basil was just slightly under a 5. My friend and I ordered the Green Curry with Tofu (5 Stars), the Tofu Spicy Basil (3 stars), and the Curry Puffs. Everything tasted good, the ingredients were fresh, and the dishes where veggie loaded with perfectly cooked veggies. The restaurant was clean. The vegan / vegetarian options where many. There is a decent amount of parking down the block or behind the building. Their tofu has a really delicious texture. However, I am taking a star off though because they did not get anywhere near the spicy level I had requested and made perfectly clear that I could handle. Also, our waitress wasn't friendly at times, there were times when my friend would ask something and she would just walk off without providing acknowledgement that she had heard my friend, something which had distressed my friend. We also had to wait a while for silverware and water. I would eat here again if in the Carson Area, but with Moo Dang walking distance from my house I cannot see me making the trip just for Thai Food. read more

I wanted dinner to-go while in town for work. Ordering was easy, the staff was very friendly. The food was delicious and made to my order requests. I tried the mango rolls, curry puff and pad see ew vegetable. Each item was delicious and beautifully put together. The mango rolls were something I have never had before and was very pleasantly surprised. They had so many flavors. I recommend! The curry puffs were very good too. Lastly the pad see ew was great yet my only feedback is the noodles were all clumped together. Might be since I took to-go? The dish did taste great even so. We decided to have our lunch to-go today, but the tables and amount of space between tables would have reassured me to dine in too (Covid has really impacted all dine-in restaurants, I'm sure). Smelled delicious in the restaurant and we opted for a fried calamari appetizer and the seafood soup (which is on the dinner menu). Food: Calamari was fresh and perfectly battered. Not overly fried or heavy, and there were two different dipping sauces. I think there were at least 6+ pieces (dear husband eats way faster than I) and we both agreed it was worth it. Soup was the Tom yum base and had lots of seafood. Big pieces of king crab, good sized scallops, lobster tail, mussels, mushrooms, tomato... little spicy but in the mild category. We both thought this was well done and would order again. Service: the owners made sure we had everything we needed before leaving. We do not get out to Carson very often, so when we do we use Yelp to find the restaurants that are getting good reviews. I ordered the special which was Chicken, Shrimp, ginger noodle dish. When I got it, there was no shrimp in it, it was very bland and I didn't taste any ginger until the last bite. I ended up using the spice rack to add flavor to the dish. The noodles were cooked perfectly, as was the chicken. My wife ordered a ginger pork dish, which had much better flavor. However, it had celery in it, which was not on the menu, and she hates celery!. The staff was friendly and helpful in getting our orders taken, food served and keeping our water glasses full. The restaurant was clean and we enjoyed the decor. While we were a bit disappointed this time, we will most likely come back if we are in the mood for Thai while in the area. read more

Having vacationed in Bangkok, Phuket and being from So Cal I was reluctant at first to try Thai food in Carson City. I'm glad I wasn't narrow minded. The restaurant is located on a main street and parking was easy to find on a side street. Interior of The Basil Restaurant is not huge but is quaint and decorated with with Thai decor. We started off with Tom Yum soup which had decent sized shrimp, large straw mushrooms, lemon grass, kaffir leaves and Thai chili peppers - the soup was really flavorful and the small portion and was just right for two people. I followed the soup with Spicy Basil with ground pork which included Thai chilies, bell peppers, garlic, yellow onions and super fresh basil - This was so delish with the veggies not overcooked and crispy. Lastly, I chose the topless seafood plate - specially prepared light Thai curry sauce with scallop, shrimp, bell pepper, egg, basil, peanut, shredded kaffir leaves and coconut milk. OMG this was so yummy and was served on a unique dish with individual cups with covers. This place is probably the best food place I've seen everywhere in Carson city The food was really, really good. The plating was nice--pretty obvious they put effort into making every plate impeccable. I got the red curry, which was warm, not too spicy, and tasted authentic. The meals came with a free chip thing that's I've never tried before, that's dripped in some kind of sweet sauce--I normally don't like to eat fried chips, but somehow that chip with the sweet sauce on top tasted Really good, like nothing I've tried before. We also got the tom yum soup, which again was spicy but not too spicy, had lots of ingredients, and tasted authentic! None of the random veggies or mu shu stuff being stuffed inside--the soup there was the real deal, as was other menu items The service was also great. The wait staff were dressed in traditional thai attire, and constantly walked around every table to make sure everyone's water glass was full--tip top service. The decor inside was also very, very detailed, with lots of paintings, furniture, and antiques that looked like they belonged there and made the place feel authentic. They even gave everyone free soup the moment you sit down, before you order anything. The candy they give you with the bill at the end was also pretty classy--probably not expensive at all, but it wasn't one of those random fortune cookie or mint bullshit. My husband and I traveled about 30 minutes to cap off our honeymoon trip, and this place did NOT disappoint! We were greeted and sat immediately which is always appreciated. The restrooms were clean and the restaurant interior was clean as well, all which are big points in my book. My husband and I are vegan, so it's great that they have a separate menu that labels what food items are vegan. That helped a lot! PLEASE get a hand on the Mango Rolls. They are delicious! No wonder they sell out so fast. We ended up ordering the last roll to-go because it was so good. We shared the Bangkok roll as another appetizer which was also delicious, but the mango roll by far was the winner that night for me. We split the Pad Thai and had it with the tofu. The sauce was sweet, and the noodles were just the right texture. I loved the tofu! I wish there had been a few more pieces in the dish because it had a great texture. Service was great, pleasant and prompt with the food and water refills. I've been exploring Nevada quite a bit lately, going on little day trips and drives, since I didn't grow up here. Many of my loops have involved driving through Carson City, which has an abundance of local restaurants to explore. Craving something on the healthier side, I always lean toward Thai food because there are usually plenty of options with fresh veggies! This visit, I ordered the "Green Garden" house entree, which features your choice of protein pan-fried with snow peas, baby bok choy, carrots, cabbage, broccoli, green onion, bean sprouts and asparagus with a light soy sauce. I ordered it with beef - DELICIOUS! You can add white or brown rice on the side, too - which I always do to complement the main dish, and soak up all the yummy sauce. When I called to place my order, the woman who answered the phone must have thought I sounded familiar, because she spoke to me like an old friend (even though this was to be my first visit!), and suggested the fresh mango spring roll. She said they've been running out lately, so of course I had to order it and see for myself. Fresh Thai basil, spinach mangos, tofu, cucumbers and rice noodles, all wrapped up in rice paper and served with their homemade peanut sauce - they hit the spot on a hot spring afternoon! And to top it all off, I quenched my thirst with a Thai iced tea. The Basil is open for takeout only right now, but I can't wait to come back when they offer dine-in. I love this restaurant and the decor is fabulous. Very authentic Thai with alot of beautiful art pieces. The staff is great and very responsive and efficient. I ordered the red curry with beef and it was delicious. Light and very flavorful. When I ordered my dish I noticed that steamed rice was not included with the dish. I think steamed rice should always be accompanied with a curry dish. This was the only disappointing part of our evening. One of the worst spots in Nevada if you have a group of two or more, you will be waiting for your food for a while and only half the table will be served for another 30 minute wait the other half of the table will be served. And when you mentioned that they are doing things wrong, they play it off as a language barrier and try to say oh thank you thank you sorry it's not my fault. Literally the worst waiter Ever everyone was clueless. No one helped my water was low back in the day. There was never service like this. This place would never survive. One of the worst experiences I've ever had and it's always the same older lady with a little bit of an attitude and doesn't know English though she's been herefor years. The decor was awesome and made you feel like you were at a real restaurant instead of a fast food joint like some Thai restaurants. The basil is my favorite restaurant of all time!! We have been stopping in from Mammoth every chance we get for over the last 5 years and the food is delicious every single time. My favorite thing on the menu is their curry but literally everything is good. The chef is so sweet and so are all the servers. I feel like family when I come in. We were out in Carson City and we were starving! We came across this restaurant after doing some research on yelp. Street parking was available but you might have to walk a block or two...no big deal. We were greeted immediately upon entering the restaurant. Water was immediately brought to us and the menus. A few minutes later, we were ready to order and the server was definitely efficient. We ordered papaya salad, pineapple duck curry, and basil chicken. Oh. and we ordered brown rice. Those are usually our staples at any thai restaurant. The papaya salad was super fresh although the level of sweetness was beyond what I'm used to. Also, there wasn't any kick. What happened to thai chills? Sigh. On a good note, the pineapple duck curry was probably the best I've ever had. It was served in an actual pineapple and they weren't skimpy on the meat. My only complaint? It was too sweet! The basil chicken was just ok to me...I've definitely had better. I did appreciate how everything was so fresh. Next time, if we happen to end up at Carson City again craving thai food, I'm definitely going to ask for extra spicy and less sweet. It would be perfect if that were the case! 4 solid stars.
