My beer
Kurt K.

Unassuming looking. Old gas station? Bar takes up a lot of space. Limited inside seating. Seemed a bit frenetic but it is all in results. So we shall see. So 35 minutes for two burgers and a quesadilla from order to table. Now my group says it was with the wait. Our server Bridgette was alone and y afraid when we got there. I think the owner or manager was also there. Saw a few folks clock in while we waited and that helped a lot. Folks who came in way after us got their food not long after us. Tony I think was the name and he was front of house when we got there but he was cooking soon after. So props to him for lending a hand to whoever was back there. Some big tables may have messed with their mojo a bit. They need to get their A/C fixed. It was was warm front of house and by the sheen on the staff in the kitchen I could see they were in the heat. To call this place a Gastro pub is a stretch. It is a bar that serves good food but just not quickly. The beer list was OVERWHELMING at probably 200 or more beers. Menu for food was varied enough that the kitchen should be able to handle it. I hope they keep it as is. Less is more in this case. I really liked the fries or potato slices or whatever they call them. But they were very good. By all accounts the burgers were great. Hot and cooked as requested. I had the pork quesadilla and it was smokey flavored as advertised. A little too strong for my taste but still flavorful. Perhaps you would like it. The guacamole seemed a little brown. Not bright green as I would have hoped. I think with time and a bit more staff things will get going even better. The food was the star and staff a close second. Check it out.

The Bat Cave is a fantastic place for craft beer lovers. The selection is incredible. Although they only have 6-8 taps, they must have close to 100 plus different beers in cans available to choose from. Seating is limited inside and can get a little cramped when full, but ii is well worth the experience. I went on a Saturday afternoon around 3:00 and the atmosphere was very relaxed. There were several people inside, but everyone kept the noise level low. The music being played was super chill. Great atmosphere! I did not try any of the entrees, but what I saw come out of the kitchen looked amazing. I will be going back, but I wish it was closer to my house. Note: There is limited seating inside, but they also have seating outside as well.

For about six months now, The Bat Cave Gastro Pub (which I will shorthand to simply "Bat Cave" for the rest of this review) has become one of the primary go-to places to eat, drink, and enjoy company after church. Yep, I am a Christ Follower who enjoys a brew kinda like the guys who evangelized to C.S. Lewis. Anyways, I have to say that I really love it here. It has delicious food, unique brews, and the staff aren't just friendly but professional when it comes to doing what they have to do. Firstly, the two behind Bat Cave truly utilized the space the building had. Prior to it being what it is now, the building has gone through many iterations of a restaurant including its long stint as Rolli's Porkloin Extraordinaire. Right now, it is a quaint space with both indoor and outdoor seating. The walls are lined with paraphernalia of a nerd/geek/dork nature which for me is a plus, especially the "No Weenies Allowed!" sign, a reference to the popular Spongebob Squarepants's episode, "No Weenies." Needless to say there is plenty of Batman references around and about. Television screens play current sports games and comedy fare. And there also seems to be a fire pit outside surrounded by picnic tables. The food is very delicious. Over the course of my numerous visits, I have eaten the Cave Pearls (fried cheese with marinara), Bat Cave Nachos, Cheap Ass Fries (literally just $3), Baby Boulders (tempura-fried stuffed baby bella mushrooms stuffed with chili), Pub Grilled Cheese, and the Gastro Burger (burger with beer cheese, honey BBQ bacon, and fried pickles). Everything has been well-spiced, cooked adequately, and prepared meticulously to suit a person's palette. The brews change all the time as they seem to support local breweries. I personally love Untitled Art and they seem to have no shortage of any of their brews that are based on smoothies and desserts. But what brings it all together is the amazing waitress they have, Bridgett (no "E" at the end and I know that because she chastised me for spelling her name wrong the first time). I mean she is extremely friendly and eloquently personable, but she also compliments the nerdom of Bat Cave too. She probably had a field day when the Bat Cave featured those brews that seemed to be based on Pokemon since she likes Pokemon. On a sidenote, there are two restrooms that are gender-neutral and are usually well stocked and clean. The price tag for food is between $10 and $20 on average while brews and drinks are less than $10. The only dropping of the ball they had, well for me, was their calamari. It is my "food I must try at all restaurants." Thing is the calamari was a little above average, but I have waited four different visits to have it since it was always 86ed by the time my crew and I got there. So when I FINALLY got the chance to have it, I was expecting it to be this phenomenal dish that even the Roman Caesar would be unworthy of putting up to his unworthy lips. In short, I overhyped it and because of that, I am judging it to a stricter standard. But to be fair, I ALWAYS judge calamari to a stricter standard. Overall, The Bat Cave is a fine addition to the mom & pop's category here in Melbourne and Palm Bay. I will definitely go back for their food, brew, and camaraderie. And maybe, just maybe, they'll let me hide a geocache in their restaurant too.

Nachos and Caesar

Cool spot for a snack and brew. Massive beer selection; mostly in cans, only 6 taps. Seems to be staffed thinly, so be patient or go in not prime time. Music is on the metal side. We had the nachos and a Caesar. Good stuff about the nachos, fresh chunks of avocado, ample and tasty pulled pork. I prefer fresh jalapeños, real cheese (vs queso sauce). Crisp salad.

Overwhelming list of beers. I went with sours that had smoothie consistency. I enjoyed them. The ladies were friendly & attentive. They gave me recommendations & were patient with me. I don't really drink beer but I wanted to go to try their food & ended up enjoying both. Seating is a bit tight. They have inside & outside seating. Good experience.

Shrimp Sandwich

We went on Sat at about 1pm. Things were a little slow when we got there, so we were able to make nice conversation with Tony, the bartender, waiter, food server all wrapped up in one friendly package. My girlfriend and I decided to share Pulled Pork Nachos and the Shrimp Sandwich. They were both scrumptious! The shrimp was a battered lightly, spiced and seasoned to perfection, and cooked correctly. The roumalade is house made and is drinkable. My only critique is the sandwich could use a few more shrimp on it. 2-3 more would've made it perfect. The pork on the nachos was smoky, moist, and seasoned perfectly as far as we were concerned. We do like our seasonings! It was so nice to have food that was actually seasoned! The beer cheese was delish and the chips were crisp and fresh. I wanted some fresh jalapeños, but they did not have any. Tony said they used to but not many people wanted them, so it was hard to keep them fresh. It won't stop me from getting that mountain of deliciousness again. The potato petals that came with the sandwich were also tasty. Dipped them in ranch, ketchup, and roumalade. Great with all! Tony's service was top notch. He traded my friends beer for another choice when she did not like the one she got. She did not ask, he readily offered when he noticed she was not caring for it. They started getting very busy right before we left. Both Tony and Bridgett the gorgeous other person working the front of the house pitched in and took care of us up until the good byes as we walked out! Bravo!! Added pics. We had already attacked the nachos before we remembered to get the pics! There was a big dollop of sour cream and guacamole we already split.

Cheers to beers

I really liked this place overall, but there was a bit of an issue with cleanliness when we were eating. The bartender was very attentive and was kind enough to give use our nachos for no cost due to the issue. I would definitely go back. The nacho presentation was impressive and the portion was plenty enough for 2 or even more. The flavor of the pork was delicious, with a sweet and slightly spicy taste. The beer selection was out of this world. I had the wheat beer with a tangerine flavor, and my boyfriend got a triple distilled stout that was very potent. I was definitely feeling a little tipsy after getting one of my own after I tasted his, because it was so delicious! Thank goodness I didn't drive. I would like to give this place another chance just because it had so much personality and I really liked the vibe.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Not crowded. Very friendly bar tender and wait staff. Many different beers to choose from. I prefer darker beers which can be hard to find. Not here. There was a nice selection of porters and stouts! Thank you! Food was amazing and beyond! Stared with wings Nashville spicy sweet. Wings are smoked then goes nice and crispy. Sauce was unique and flavorful. We split the BAT and shrimp tacos....speechless! Fries are like we never had before. Highly recommend. Will definitely be back

Garlic Parmesan wings and fries with sour cream, chili, and jalapeños.
Andrea L.

Small bar with a nice assortment of food. I tried the wings and they were crispy. There are three wing flavors to choose from, bbq, sweet something, and garlic parmesan. I was surprised there was not a buffalo sauce. I want this place to succeed and my unsolicited 2 cents is that the tables should be high tops so that you don't eat at butt level of the bar patrons. The difference in seating levels also stifles interaction between people at the bar which then stifles the vibe. A smaller menu would be sufficient, to expand wings sauce options. Wings are a bar food staple and should have more sauce options. This would allow for a few signature but amazing gastropub-worthy, well thought out, sandwiches. The craft beer menu is LENGTHY, it's great, and there is opportunity to put category headings like "lager", "IPA", "Stout" for ease of reading. Is there a board of the current draft beers on the wall? The Halloween accents should be removed days after the holiday, immediately. The music was a strange conglomeration of Jewel, and other 90's music. Pick a pandora station or SXM channel for a better flow. I wasn't sure why all TV's were on the same channel and there was no volume. I like this place and I want it to succeed; Melbourne needs to support its local small business.

I have gone to The Bat Cave multiple times ordering a variety of things off the menu and everything had been delicious. The place is intimate and comfortable. I look forward to going to trivia every 2nd and 4th Thursday. The staff is always so friendly and personable. I'm so happy to see a business thrive in this location

Excellent Smoked Wings and Great Happy Hour Spot…read more Stopped by Broken Barrel Tavern at Palm Bay Road and Babcock and had a great experience. Service was prompt and friendly, and the happy hour specials made it an even better value. I ordered the wing basket with 8 smoked wings and onion petals. The onion petals were crispy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the spicy remoulade sauce. For the wings, I tried both the Carolina Vinegar and the Hot Garlic flavors. The smoked wings themselves were outstanding, and the Hot Garlic sauce was especially memorable because it featured real garlic, which added incredible flavor. These are definitely wings I will come back for and highly recommend to anyone visiting. My partner ordered the BBQ pulled pork quesadillas with seasoned fries. The fries were more like freshly cut chips, nicely seasoned and delicious, and the quesadillas were excellent as well. Overall, Broken Barrel Tavern delivered great food, quick service, and a relaxed atmosphere. If you're in the Melbourne area and looking for outstanding smoked wings, this place is absolutely worth a visit. We'll definitely be back.

Went for lunch on a Friday and they had two servers and only one working the dining area. We sat in the very dark dining area. Every surface was painted black. Lighting was pretty poor and it was hard to read the menus. Ordered a pulled pork platter and a pulled pork sandwich. They both came with "fried chips" and the platter had another side and we chose beans. Bourbon Bbq sauce was our choice. The pork was good. Good portions on both sandwich and platter. Beans had some "heat" which I don't favor but my son really liked. The chip fries or fried chips - whichever they call them were seasoned with a garlic salt it tasted like. However they could have used about another minute I the fryer. The bigger ones were raw in the middle. May have been a byproduct of a large party in their event room throwing off their timing. But if cooked a bit more they would be a unique side for the area and good. Server was stretched thin. Freshens my son's drink but not mine until he brought the check. By then meal was over. I had water. Not difficult. Rib special looked good from a distance and I heard they are known for wings. Maybe next time. Noticed there is a private room for events that most restaurants do not have. So a point to consider.
