Bayou Cuban
Joe F.

How have not been here yet?? Stopped in for lunch on a random Tuesday. The place was open all to me and a cute older couple at the bar. I had one of the most unique and yummy Cubans I've ever had. It was huge and the sauce was amazing. The bread was perfect and the bit of N'arlens flair was evident and perfect! The fries were great too and the service was spot on. I'll be back with friends when I can put a proper dent into their menu.

Oh my! Delicious! We shared the Fried Catfish with Collard greens with maple and rice. The catfish was cooked perfectly. The greens were delicious, with lots of flavor. The rice was good, a little spice for me, but he didn't think it was spicy at all. We ordered a side of the Brussels Spouts, absolutely delicious! Also, ordered a side of the cornbread, the best I've ever had. Cute little place, off the beaten path. They were kind enough to lower the radio. The waitress was friendly and attentive. If I didn't live 1.5 hours away, I definitely would be visiting a lot. We rated it a 5 star which we don't give out that much!

My wife and I wound up a Bayou because our first two choices were closed due to the new year holiday. This was our first time here. We were greeted quickly and were seated immediately. The atmosphere is very cozy and has that southern feel as the name implies. Our waitress (Ques) was absolutely fabulous! She gave us suggestions on menu items and took our drink orders. I had a blue Bayou (delish) and my wife had the voodoo juice (also wonderful). Our appetizer was fried green tomatoes that were amazing. The two entrees were crispy catfish for myself and the spare ribs for the wife. Sides were collard greens, dirty rice, corn bread and hoppin John's. I have to say, everything came out in a timely manner and was absolutely awesome! We couldn't say enough how glad we were to wind up here by chance. Ques is by far, one of the best servers we've met. Instead of telling you how good the food and service is, try it for yourself and hopefully you will agree that this is a great place. One regret! I didn't try the Hushpuppies!! I'll be back for them. Thank you Bayou and a bigger thank you to Ques for making a great place even better.

I'll start by saying that the ambiance and vibe of The Bayou was wonderful. I ate at the bar around 5:00 and it wasn't busy yet. The bartender and wait staff were great. I ordered the shrimp po' boy with fries and the po' boy was really disappointing. It seemed as though they had run out of shrimp in the kitchen. As pictured, there was a sparsely arranged single layer of small shrimp on the bread. I probably got a sample of shrimp in about every other bite I took of the sandwich. And the shrimp were so over cooked that they had the pull of beef jerky. The sub roll that was used in the sandwich was great though! The fries served with the po' boy were delicious!

Stopped back again during our annual exploration trip to Allentown and Bethlehem and Bayou is always on our list for great eats. With a dog we love that we can sit in a covered cool outdoor area to enjoy the delicious food. The staff was so enamored with our dog that it made it like coming home again. For this trip around, we decided to focus on appetizers and drinks and these are some of our staples. The fried green tomatoes are always 100% outrageous the white wine clams again 100% outrageous every time this time we tried something new the cast iron pierogies and I'm glad we did. It was so tasty and everything is so beautifully plated . For our beverages, my wife ordered the best drink ever the jalapeño margarita if I wasn't driving a long trip home I certainly could've put two down myself, but I would've been down on the ground and out for the count so she enjoyed that I had a beer and there were so many beer options to choose from it's great that they offer tastings. Be sure to see our scrumptious food photos and don't blame me if you drool on your iPhone while you're looking at this in

Prices ratcheted up, service very slow. Food was good but thinking their signature dish of fried chicken has been overcooked.

Ask the Community - The Bayou

Does the restaurant have a full bar?

Yes they do.

Are there Happy Hour food specials and what are the Happy Hour hours?

I am not sure as we visited for lunch.

Do you offer gluten free options?

You'd have to ask. They have a lot of fried food, which likely isn't gluten free, but they do have some salads, gumbo, jambalaya, and oxtail that might be.

We ordered the Caesar salad (phenomenal) The steak tartare, just divine perfection The waitress heard me talking about the sweat breads from the chicken dish (that I wasn't ordering, I'll explain shortly) and said the chef could do them as a side dish, DELICIOUS!!! My husband got the world's largest most delicious pork chop. Now, my meal. I ordered the halibut and recognized that perhaps it wasn't for me, but I ordered it it was my choice I wasn't going to send it back. Our waitress took note that I wasn't eating and told me that simply would not do and hustled to the kitchen to come out with the chicken dish, I was so appreciative of her noticing and accommodating this, truly, amazing service and that chicken was succulent beyond words! We also got 3 of the desserts, the seasonal eggnog bread pudding, the cinnamon raisin bread pudding which was insanely delicious as I personally am not a huge bread pudding fan but if every bread pudding was this? That would be my go to! And of course the butterscotch pudding which better never leave the menu because it is lick your plate delicious!!! I also enjoyed a hot cocktail which on a cold night was heavenly. Bolete is such an incredible culinary journey that we specifically go there from our home state because we know it will always be inviting, delicious and warm with heart and soul from the chef and staff.

Their farm-to-table approach means a rotating menu and selection of curated ingredients that make up stunning dishes. From appetizer to dessert (which sadly we didnt have room for) the menu is thoughtful and intentional. Starting with cocktails - the famous Sleigh Bells Ring (featured on the cover of Edible Magazine) was perfection. Not too sweet, warming and tart with the mescal and boozy cranberry sauce- and incredible concoction. The Dark Love Story was equally seductive with a vodka base and aperitif blend with red wine reduction. The thought they put into their menu doesnt just stop at food! We were torn between starters but the Tartare was our pick and an excellent one. The egg was golden, the capers crisp, and the truffle aoili was never overpowering. The housemade crisp chips were a welcome change from the often offered toast bites while still being an elevated dish. The potato crsted cod was served beautifully with a lobster broth poured table-aide and was accompanied by fresh clams, shrimp, and mussels- honestly not a critique to be found. The grilled Chipotle flank steak was cooked to perfection and the hen of the woods mushroom was a showstopper. All in all I struggled to not make a reservation for every night I was in town because it is a must to go back. The decor and staff arw welcoming and as thoughtful as the meals served with mushrooms present all throughout complimenting the Bolete name. 10/10 all around.

The atmosphere was very nice, our server was engaging , and the featured entrees had great flavor. We mentioned this to our server who agreed that this batch was unusually very small. We made mention of our disappointment to the hostess at our departure. We were seated right away in an open format atmosphere with the best balance of light and dark. The bar across from us looked fantastic. What we noticed right from the start is how well the staff works with and for each other to bring guests the best dining experience possible. Maddie was our server. She was kind, professional, patient, and knowledgable about both food and drink on a grand scale. Her recommendations were stellar. I had a refreshing gin and basil martini as well as their beef carpaccio, which was absolutely fantastic. My girlfriend started with their beef stew, which was thick and satisfying. It was so delicious, she almost canceled her entree to have more. She went with the home cooking route and indulged in their meatloaf with green beans and mashed potatoes. Although she loved that as well, half had to come home with her, which made for an excellent lunch the next day. I went with the raw of it all and got their spectacular tuna tartare with asparagus, radish, and rice. Usually, the tuna is cut into strips but this tremendous block of gorgeous fish knocked me out. Absolutely fantastic from presentation to flavor. For dessert, we got their brownie with ice cream and this was all upper level in taste and texture. I would be shocked if their ice cream hadn't been made in-house. We loved our first experience with Apollo and we look forward to our next visit, which is hopefully sooner than later.

Then I had the PB dessert but it was WAY TOO PB AND CHOCOLATEY so if u don't want too much then I don't recommend but it is also delectable. And then the next time I had the cheesecake with caramel on the side and whipped cream (the whipped cream seemed to be made in house) the sauce and cheesecake and caramel sauce are very soft and easy eating and going down, highly recommend if u want something not too overbearing. I also had the bourbon bbq wings which r also really good but don't expect anything crazy with them as they don't seem excessively flavored with artificial flavorings. Unfortunately, there was a strong cold draft at floor level, leaving our feet uncomfortably cold throughout the meal. The hostess was sweet and greeted us with a smile. The food service was unremarkable. Our waiter was not particularly friendly nor personable. The drinks were a weak start. The red sangria was poor. The bourbon cocktail was an odd mix of bourbon, apple cider, and other elements--an awkward, Frankenstein-style whiskey sour that simply didn't work. Worst of all, both drinks were served in thin plastic cups, which immediately cheapened the entire experience. I ordered the falafel sandwich and specifically requested a toasted bun. It arrived not just room temperature, but cold. I sent it back, and it returned burning hot... the bottom soggy... literally too hot to pick up... with no browning or color change, clearly microwaved. Microwaving is not toasting. At that point, the sandwich was inedible. I removed the bun entirely and ate just the falafel, which was dry and largely tasteless. At this point I knew coming back to this restaurant was a mistake. Food timing was another issue. The dishes took roughly 45 minutes to arrive after the drinks, possibly longer. We were all getting annoyed and what started out well when we first walked in turned negative. I wasn't impressed on my first visit years ago... and this second visit confirmed it. Between the poor drinks, cheap plastic cups, ridiculously long wait (with no explanation nor apology), and careless food execution, there's no reason to return.

(It's also super-affordable -- less than $15 for both of our meals, including drinks.) The atmosphere is casual, comfortable, & a little jazzy; a piano (complete with tip jar), cozy couches, & a shelf of books say "Come hang out here." About 10 minutes after placing our order, the waitress came back & apologized for the "long wait." Within a few minutes, the chef (a wizened old Black man who lends credibility to the authenticity of the Soul Food) came out & apologized himself. A few minutes later, the waitress reappeared & offered us free chocolate cake "for the wait." Bewildered but delighted, my sister & I accepted. Arriving shortly afterward, the food would have been worth a longer "wait." I got the fish po' boy: fresh swai fish, breaded in-house with something delightfully spicy with fresh lettuce & a flavorful House Po' Boy sauce. The chips, also made in-house, are positively light (sliced quite thin) but also seasoned with spice. My sister said the fried chicken was "standard," but was impressed with the candied yams.
