I've been on a quest for Prime Rib! So, I decided to try Grumpy's. Always ordered rare, which means you get medium rare at all the places I've tried. I've had tender, cut with a fork prime rib years ago, but I cannot this elusive cut anywhere in the Lehigh Valley. The places I've tried were all good, but none were great! I've tried prime rib at Millers Ale House, Prime Steakho.use, Texas Roadhouse, Outback, Longhorn. While the seasoning and taste varies from place to place; the one common element is having to saw the steak with a knife to cut it. This results in excessive chewing of the meat. This really reduces overall enjoyment of the prime rib experience. To get what I want from a prime rib experience will probably require paying $60 plus dollars and a long drive from the Lehigh Valley. Grumpy's of course serves smoked prime rib. I love smoked meats but not when it comes to prime rib I discovered. So, I won't be getting the $32 dollar, 16oz prime rib there again. I will be ordering the blackened bleu cheese burger with bacon and the ribs again! Onion rings a must for me. The side salad (adds $2) is excellent! Not just iceburg lattuce. I chose cole slaw as a side' it's good but their style of pink cole slaw is not for me. You get a piece of corn bread, but it's tiny and totaly underwhelming compared to cornbread elsewhere. The staff is courteous, attentive, and friendly. The ambience leaves much to be desired. To me feels like a bikers bar, which it is not. At the end of the day Grumpy's gets a B+ in my book and I will occasionally visit for lunch or dinner. Note: Their Au Jus is highly recommended and is not served with the meal. Out with some friends and the food and service were amazing. Not our first time here and certainly won't be our last. Wish I had more pictures to share but we devoured everything so quickly. But that does say something about how delicious Grumpy's BBQ really is. My wife and I shared the extreme sampler. Half a rack of ribs, half a smoked chicken, and sliced beef brisket with two sides. More than an enough for two but if you're a true hard-core carnivore, you can take this down by yourself. read more

Spent the night in Allentown to celebrate my brothers birthday and went to Grumpys for brunch. Restaurant in what looks like a house that was pretty big. We were there at open time and were seated right away. Our waitress was really nice and attentive but not overwhelming where she was at the table every 5 minutes. We ordered the Extreme combo which came with Ribs, brisket and chicken as well as 2 sides and corn bread. For sides we did fries and mashed potatoes. My husband and I shared and still was able to take some home. Now for the food. The corn bread was really well made, the fries where nice and crispy but soft inside like I love them, the mashed was just mash. Now for the BBQ, the ribs Omg! The ribs were meaty and flavorful and huge! They were my favorite. As much as I love brisket the brisket was just okay. The ends were dry and I got a lot of random fat., I also wasn't a big fan of the chicken. I still gave 4 starts because the ribs and service alone are worth it! read more

Stopped in for an early dinner on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, after shooting clays at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays, which is super close by. Roadhouse is the perfect word for this place. It's packed with Americana and has a really homey, laid-back feel. I wish it were closer to where I live because there were a lot of things on the menu I'd love to come back and try--especially the Creole/Cajun options. This visit I went with the wings and the gumbo. The wings were smoked and really good, and the gumbo was just as tasty. It also looks like they can pack a crowd in here--they've got a bunch of live music acts scheduled through January. If this place were closer, I'd be here a lot more often. That said, anytime I'm heading back to Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays, this will definitely be part of the same-day plan. read more

This was first time trying gator bites and I enjoyed eating them by themselves as well as dipped in sauce that comes with gator bites. I tried a cup of their chili. We loved the char flavor of Grumpy's BBQ chicken breast. It tasted the way we used to make BBQ chicken at home. Housemade baked beans and coleslaw were the sides. Came here with some friends on a Sunday afternoon and it was a blessing. We were all starving and one of our friends recommended this place for bbq. In terms of atmosphere, it's definitely welcoming and lively. The customer service was great, our waitress was generous and efficient. We started off with the alligator bites and wow, I'm glad I'm eating alligator again. It's been so long since I've had it and Grumpy's reminded me of the texture all over again. The spicy mayo (I think) they served with it complemented it well. I sat down and ordered the burnt ends platter with friends and okra and it did not disappoint. The burnt ends were tender, flavorful and a great mix between fatty and meaty. I've never had proper burnt ends before but if this is what it is, it's a great start! The fries could have been just plain fries and I would have been happy but the fries here have those extra crispy bits on the outside so there's more texture and crunch for each bite. It really adds to the platter. The fried okra was also great too, albeit being my first time having okra. I'm not upset with it and it's growing on me. What I regret though, is not ordering the extreme platter. I think it comes with sides, a good amount of chicken, a couple of ribs, and more. Once my friend ordered the extreme platter, I knew I had to come back because those ribs looked so juicy and tender. I'm hoping to come back soon! read more

Came here twice now and the food didn't disappoint. We came right when they open and there weren't anyone but the staff. Right when we sat down, at least 3 different groups rolled in. Guess it's lunch time for everyone! Nice little cozy place for some grub. They have interesting decor all around the place. Most noticeable for me was the fireplace and the 3 boar's head hung above it (we sat there twice). I ordered the burnt ends sandwich and fries - DELICIOUS! It also helps when you're super hungry hehe. The flavor was good and it was a sizeable portion, although my tummy is small. To some, it may be just enough. Loved their fries, not starchy or dry. One other ordered their usual - 1/2lbs Cajun prawns with a bowl mash potato, while my boyfriend enjoyed his burger. Can't go wrong with that! Located in an old house it is not that appealing on the outside or inside. Fortunately the food more than makes up for the " 1960's" old cabin decor. Ordered online and my food was ready before estimated time, it was my first time actually inside the building so I wasnt sure where to go to pick it up. Staff was super kind to me & told me congratulations on my first time there. I definitely deserved the congratulations as my food was wonderful. I got a pulled pork sandwich, onion petals, and sweet potato fries, everything was so delicious I've been craving it again since I finished the last bite. This BBQ was amazing! The honey bee sandwich was delicious. It was slow cooked brisket with bacon, tangy BBQ sauce, onion petals, & pepper jack cheese. I had it with 2 sides in place of the fries. The shaved Brussel sprouts were delicious & so was the cucumber/tomato salad. The service was fast & friendly & prices were very reasonable. I love there menu selections. As I get older I find that I like BBQ more and more. However the Lehigh Valley is not the bustling BBQ hub some other parts of the country are. These two things led me to grabbing some dinner from Grumpy's Bar B Que Roadhouse. As soon as I smelled the parking lot I knew I made a good choice. Grumpy's is a dive bar and I mean that in the best way possible, it reminds me of some of the BBQ places I had when I was down in Texas. This place is dark, loud and cramped. The service was a little on the slower side but our server was nice. She frequently apologized for the wait, I guess they had a lot of take out orders. The food was good but not great, I have had better BBQ but it was better than most. The Chicken was good, the ribs were falling off the bone, but the brisket was fattier than I like. The star of the show was the deep fried pickles, they were the chips not the spears and the breading on them was perfect. They also have two house BBQ sauces on the table, they both were good but I liked the spicy sauce a bit more. Overall a very good BBQ place located in the Lehigh Valley, just know that it is not the most fancy place. read more

This has become a staple in my family.. I can go and on but to tell you they visit from Jersey to go here, that should say enough. We love coming to Grumpy's BBQ, it's probably the best BBQ spot in the Lehigh Valley. I love the ribs and the smokiness of it. Service was fast and attentive and to the point. Our server recommended the Texas twinkies and they were so good and decadent. If I could adjust or revise something it would be the temperature of the food when it comes out, it wasn't too hot and it got cold quickly (maybe because the restaurant itself was cold) Also the coleslaw is a little bland and too wet. I had my first experience at Grumpy's last week and all I can say is "fried pickles "! The word was that they were really good here and they didn't disappoint! Long slices of a delicious ,possibly kosher, pickles with a thick, crunchy corn meal coating like I have never had before. So good and I can see why people love these fried pickles. I also had the ribs, brisket, coleslaw and wings on a buffet at a party in the restaurant. Wings were just ok , a little too soft and mushy for me and maybe they would be better if ordered fresh. The brisket was just ok , nothing special and again a little too mushy, liked they were cooked too much and kinda fatty. Ribs were good , large and meaty but you could tell they were cooked and just finished on the grill , no smoke rings. I really liked their barbecue sauces, they had a traditional and a spicy. We had order a catering order for our Baby shower, last weekend. We called it a baby q. It was our first time ever trying it. Everybody we know raves about it so we wanted to try it. Honestly it was just average, the brisket was probably the best meat out of everything we got. Sucks you only get 1 sauce though. The prices were good and low, but I think you should have got more food for what we paid for and the room in the containers you hardly got any food. For almost 10 years we have visited Grumpys, with varying levels of both excitement, and periods of disappointment. The early years were often met with a line of patrons looking to access the restaurant, however today was different from the moment we pulled into the parking lot. Our first response, are they even open? With a few cars on the lot, we approach the front door, indeed they were open. Half RackWe enter to find the the namesake of the establishment, Grumpy staff, disorganized and frankly, a sense of confusion amongst most of the staff. We sat close to the bar, and watched draft beer being poured, my best estimate it was approximately 75% foam. I watched the staff remove a pitcher of beer from a cooler, assuming it was going through a period of allowing the foam to settle, and the pitcher contained the remnants of what was usable. Ordered dinner, I had the half rack of ribs, knowing there would be ample leftovers. My counterpart orders a sandwich Ribs arrive, again a healthy serving size, however an unhealthy plate of fatty, greasy and non protein ribs. The extremely limited amount of meat led me to believe the sacrificed bovine was overweight and worthy of retirement years prior The sandwich, with a flair of mystery, as we tried to identify two pieces of an unknown, we'll call it a surprise item, we ask our waitress, she first says she doesn't know what it is, then comes back and states it was burnt cheese The venue had few patrons, the bar, well i would think it was a funeral wake, no sense of caring, simply confused staff In retrospect, the parking lot was my first red flag, a text from CVS, suggesting I increase my cholesterol medication was the second, and third and final, all staff wore shirts that stated Grumpys, here they carried the right message, and almost all were just that It is clear the owners have given up, and I see the once popular watering hole, riding, or if you have the ribs, sliding off into the sunset read more
