Anyways let's start the review, whoever took our order tried tied to be funny but honestly was not, I mean who would be after our start. I will say the food was amazing but the service was awful. The only person who really cared about the business at hand was a man named Egbert (I apologize if I butcher his name) who also was the only one who tried to get us a table, no one else seemed to care as we sat and waited way longer than needed. BBQ and Mexican are my two favorite cuisines, so my standard for BBQ is pretty high. My wife ordered the dry rub ribs (the Sally special) and I had BBQ beef. The beef was a bit too soupy and although the ribs were good, they were a bit too bland for my taste. Their homemade BBQ sauce needed a bit more spark to it. Something to make your taste buds stand up and take notice. Not necessarily more spicy, just something that makes me say wow! The Greek salad is advertised a a specialty of the house, but was nothing more than Lettuce, tomatoes, yellow peppers, feta cheese and kalamata olives. Mostly just lettuce, and feta. My wife had a Local Flavor discount coupon as she likes to try new places. Having worked in a diner for 8 years and been in sales for the past 20 years the welcome was less than cordial. My wife ordered a half rack of ribs and enjoyed it but commented she has had better. I ordered a Greek Salad with grilled chicken breast. The Greek Salad was good but nothing to write home about. The salad did not have cucumbers and the pepperoncini was dry. They use crumbled feta cheese rather than give you slices which typically retain moisture. They provide you bread sticks which remind me of Olive Garden where my wife goes as I would not dine at that restaurant. First impression and perhaps the only impression as I will not be returning was disappointing to say the least. read more

I must say, I really wasn't wild about this place. I went here because I was in the area, already tried Real Urban Barbecue, and wanted BBQ. Unfortunately, this place has a weird thing for fusing Greek and BBQ. I ordered the pulled pork and found that it was served in a pita! When the check arrived, I politely pointed out to the waitress that she had not subtracted the $5 coupon that I had given her when we sat down. She stared at me as if she had no idea what I was talking about. I then pointed out that she had charged me $8 for my glass of wine, though the menu listed it as $7. Again, she looked at me as if I was being a jerk by pointing this out to her. This is the second time I have had to point out a mistake on the bill in this restaurant. In addition, when the owner came by to take the corrected bill, he made no attempt to find out what the problem was or to apologize, even though he had observed the entire interaction with the waitress. this is a small family owned place, but the food is good! they give you bread which comes straight out of the warmer! delicious! I got beef brisket with fries and coleslaw. YUMMY! Found this place by accident. Just looking for some lunch starving after an appointment. It was about 1:30pm so only the server was in the restaurant. The server was slow. I think he was tired from the lunch rush but, we were starving and in a hurry to eat and wished he could have picked up the pace. His customer services was excellent. We ordered 2 kids burgers, brisket sandwich and pulled pork sandwich. The burgers looked great with fresh waffle fries but, did not get a taste. All food was in very large portions. I should have just split a sandwich meal. Pulled pork was okay but, nothing special. Brisket was "to die for." I must say I had never tried brisket before so I do not know how it should taste but, this was very tender and sweet. I absolutely loved it. Came with some friends and family. It is a small place, so you sort of have to look for it, but when you order your food, you will be glad that you found it! We got the ribs, Greek salad, sweet potato fries, and cheeseburgers along with some beers, and EVERYONE was happy. This used to be one of my most reliable places to go for great food; things change. The last time we stopped by to "eat in" we left after waiting about 30 mins for the woman's son (who I assume is the cook) to show up. Finally, we gave up and left. Then last week we ordered my go-to of chicken, salad, and hamburgers. My family ate some of it and then acted like we were full and we're gonna out the rest in the fridge to eat the next day. Well come to find out, we were all so disgusted by it that none of had the intention of eating the rest of it; we just didn't want to upset my husband because of how much he'd spend on it, which was close to $70. The next day, even he agreed how awful it was, that he'd pulled the lettuce from his burger bun, and that he would rather I toss the rest of our meals out than risk getting sick. So all in all, my husband ate his hamburger but only because he's the type who doesn't like to waste money. The rest of us had a few bites of our orders and that was it. I grew up going to the barbecue pit. I've been to both locations and recently I went to the new and improved updated barbecue pit. The owner is friendly and always stops by your table to say hello. Food is consistently good...there's just nothing special about it to me. Since the renovation, the decor is more bland, but they have added a bar, and I like to drink, so that's cool. Overall, it's a Highland Park institution...people who eat ribs (not me) dig it. The turkey burger is allright, kind of small, but my parents love it. Also, the breadsticks are heaven...80,000 calories...but heaven nonetheless. It's good food, reasonable prices, but nothing special. read more

Huge portions. Definitely the most meat I've gotten for the price. The gyro platter was great and potato fries fantastic. The Greek salad used iceberg lettuce, but had great dressing. We had heard great things about this place and so we wanted to try it. So we went there tonight. The service was quick and friendly. We had the brisket and meatloaf sandwich with greek fries and Cole slaw. The brisket was excellent and the meatloaf was very good. My suggestion is get back in your car and go to the other BBQ spot on Central Street. We live in Evanston and were meeting the inlaws for dinner. There was only one waitress and she was busy. We ordered and then proceeded to wait for almost an hour for food. My son got the brisket platter and said it was the worst meat ever- tough and heavily salted. My turkey burger was again very salty and tasted like a frozen burger. The special of the night was ribs and they got the "ok" review. The brisket was watery. Why was it watery? It was sliced like Italian beef. Why? At least Italian beef has flavor. The BBQ Sauce added nothing to the flavor of the soggy beef. The service was not great, the wait for food was longer than it should have been, and when it finally came we were very disappointed. The brisket salad was reminiscent of dog food to be honest. I am not writing this because I am upset about spending 20$ on a tiny bad salad and a frozen spinach pie, rather I am writing because it is inexplicable to me that this actually counted as food. The salad was the furthest from Greek. What made it Greek? I have no idea. Can you post food images? It was sad. Sad like the salads you may have gotten from a middle school cafeteria. The spinach pie was a heated up frozen spinach. I could have have bought one, actually an entire box, from the grocery store. we've been 20 visits a year customers for maybe 15 years and it's always the same consistent excellent stuff-except for the pictures they change on the walls. the ribs are full and the bbq sauces are great and not something they dumped out of a vat they got from a food supply company. the fries are also really good and original tasting. the sweet potatoe fries taste like it, and the waffle fries are thick and delicious. there's really nothing I don't like. They've changed the size of the restaurant a few times over the years and some of the food they sometimes try new things, but it's the gold standard on the north shore. Usually with bbq places you end up dissapointed. There's not as much food as you thought you were getting, it tastes like something you get at a grocery store, you get the idea. BBQ pit is the opposite and that's why it's been a go to place for us for so long. For family meals they have some deal for $55 which is usually more than enough for 4 grown adults. I also like the size of the burger which is a real burger, not a mcdonalds sized burger. The bread sticks they thrown in are better than most fancy restaurants and you can just tell in what they do that they care about the food they're making and the product they are selling you. If you're on the north shore, this is what you want and I've tried most of the competition. Also look out for the chocolate cake, it's rare you see deerfields beaten at cake, but this does it. Parking's usually pretty easy and at night most of the parking is at the west end of the lot where the stores which have closed for the day are located. read more

A friend of ours recommended The BBq pit because they have the same ribs and sauce from the old " sally's". We had 4 people in our party and tried the sally's spare ribs, sally's baby back and the beef ribs. They were kind enough to cut them up and bring a variety of sauces on the side for us to try. All of the ribs and sauce were great and the service was attentive and professional... If you like ribs put this on your list, they have a variety of other bbq items as well as steak and we will defiantly be back ! read more
