I had the 2 meat plate with tri-tip and pulled pork. The tri-tip was leathery and the pulled pork was over cooked, burnt, and charred. I couldn't finish the pulled pork because it was so charred. The best thing was the coleslaw which was more of a creamy slaw than a vinegar slaw and I prefer creamy. I'm a huge meat eater and love bbq and I always finish all my meat but this was just too burnt, far from the mouth watering melt in your mouth bbq that I'd expect, especially considering it was $25 for the plate. I just had the best tri-tip I've ever eaten! I ordered the 1 meat, 1 side plate. The tri-tip was cooked to perfection and the mac n cheese was delicious (they give you a portion of the top with the melted cheese on it). The BBQ sauce was a perfect blend of sweet and tangy to go over the meat. If I had just one suggestion, it would be to allow your customers to get fries as a side (even if it's a few bucks more - I would have paid it!). The lady working the truck at The BBQ Smokehouse was absolutely lovely, and churned through what was a lengthy lunch line with finesse and a smile. I wanted to love this spot just based on her attitude alone. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? One meat and one side ran me $14.00. That's unreasonable for a standard dish at a food truck, but maybe surprisingly reasonable for BBQ just about anywhere. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? My tri-tip was mediocre with no crust to speak of and marginal flavor, the BBQ sauce (that came atop the trip tip as opposed to on the side) was nothing special, and the beans tasted store bought and heated. Nothing special here. No Stars. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Maple Block Meat Co. holds the crown in my mind for BBQ in Los Angeles, but even that pales in comparison to just about anything you can find outside of the coastal states. Took a while to order. We got the food, packaged in styrofoam with no bag or silverware or napkins even offered. There was sauce all over the exterior. Took it back home. I got the ribs and it was just mediocre. Did not enjoy finding the knuckles and it was way over sauced. Beans had a couple crunchy pieces so I don't know they were cooked enough. Came with some pickle slices and a Hawaiian role. Not worth the $17 for mine and my husband paid over $21. He did not enjoy. Not worth the money at all. I got the tri-tip sandwich with a side of bbq baked beans. The sandwich was good and the flavors were on point, the texture was a little different than what I expected for tri-tip... It was cut into cubes which wasn't expected. I know it's a BBQ spot and most aren't known for their sandwiches, but being a foodtruck it has the sandwich front and center which is why I would recommend they toast the bread for a little extra holding and flavor, or switch to a different bread that can hold together a little more. It's still good even with all of the options in the area (Playa Vista). Next time they are around I may have to try a plate with some other meats. The BBQ Baked Beans were great! We were very clear on directions (provided maps with step by step directions) and a time frame/window for delivery. We were charged $75 for local delivery. The driver was well over an hour late and didn't pick up his cell phone as the manager kept calling for an ETA. We were ordering other food when the driver arrived. When he arrived, he was very flippant and blamed the freeway. The same freeway I'd just driven on with no problems. He moved VERY slowly and didn't seem to care at all he was so late. He did not do any set up (as we'd paid for it) and almost left without me paying him. The food was good but I would not order from them again. The sandwich comes on a sandwich bun, instead of the normal hamburger bun. There was very little smoke flavor or appearance that I could get through the over sauced sandwich. The meat that I didn't get sauced was DRY. The raw bell pepper and onion added nothing. The slaw was under sauced and boring. It was cooked correctly, but lacked flavor (I know that's a matter of preference, but still). The pasta was, well- not good. Overboiled and vaguely next to cheese, rather than incorporated. Onions and peppers as garnish, soggy pickles on top. All that wouldn't be too terrible for what it is, if it didn't cost $11+ for an EXCEPTIONALLY small portion. I've been to this truck several times at various locations around the South Bay Area and I must say, this is some of the best food I've earn hands down! Ive ordered several different items, but the Tri Tip Sandwich is by far my favorite! The meat moist, perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. They use a French Roll, instead of traditional sandwich bread, which soaks up the sauce perfectly and adds an extra layer of flavor. I've also meet the owner of the truck, Mike, who is a very nice guy and stands behind his food. I'd HIGHLY recommend this truck to everyone I know, I follow them on FB to track locations and I send new customers, none of which have left disappointed! This was the most awful experience at the Kansas City BBQ fest. Waited in line for 30 mins. And then another 45 mins to wait for them to put our meals together in TO GO containers. At the order window they were out of most sides. 45 mins later they put out a sign that said so. They overcharged us for our pork sandwich. The service was SO slow that we warned others that got in line so they didn't have to go through what we did.
