One Meat / One Side: $14.00
    Paul V.

Since moving back to Los Angeles from Dallas I've yet to find suitable BBQ that really compares with what you can get in the middle of the country. After a lunchtime visit to The BBQ Smokehouse truck, I'm still unable to find BBQ that compares. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? The lady working the truck at The BBQ Smokehouse was absolutely lovely, and churned through what was a lengthy lunch line with finesse and a smile. I wanted to love this spot just based on her attitude alone. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? One meat and one side ran me $14.00. That's unreasonable for a standard dish at a food truck, but maybe surprisingly reasonable for BBQ just about anywhere. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? My tri-tip was mediocre with no crust to speak of and marginal flavor, the BBQ sauce (that came atop the trip tip as opposed to on the side) was nothing special, and the beans tasted store bought and heated. Nothing special here. No Stars. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Maple Block Meat Co. holds the crown in my mind for BBQ in Los Angeles, but even that pales in comparison to just about anything you can find outside of the coastal states. The BBQ Smokehouse falls shorts of even Maple Block by a wide margin. No Star.

Tri-tip sandwich with bbq baked beans as a side

I got the tri-tip sandwich with a side of bbq baked beans. The sandwich was good and the flavors were on point, the texture was a little different than what I expected for tri-tip... It was cut into cubes which wasn't expected. I know it's a BBQ spot and most aren't known for their sandwiches, but being a foodtruck it has the sandwich front and center which is why I would recommend they toast the bread for a little extra holding and flavor, or switch to a different bread that can hold together a little more. It's still good even with all of the options in the area (Playa Vista). Next time they are around I may have to try a plate with some other meats. The BBQ Baked Beans were great! They aren't too sweet and have a nice peppery kick, 4 star beans!

The food is so good. If anyone's looking for some delicious soul food, this is it. The ribs and hot links was tender and mouth watering. If you see the BBQ Smokehouse truck, check them out.

    Pulled pork sandwich and slaw
    Daryl C.

Sorry Purchased a "pulled pork sandwich and coleslaw" for $13 + tax, license and destination charge. Service was fast and friendly. The sandwich comes on a sandwich bun, instead of the normal hamburger bun. There was very little smoke flavor or appearance that I could get through the over sauced sandwich. The meat that I didn't get sauced was DRY. The raw bell pepper and onion added nothing. The slaw was under sauced and boring. Bottom line, I've had better out of the freezer section of the local grocery store.

Chicken plate with Mac and cheese and greens.

Ordered the one meat two sides plate. - Chicken, Greens and Mac and Cheese. When I received my plate, I was disappointed to see that my chicken was sliced breast in a slice of white bread with BBQ sauce on top. I didn't order a sandwich. It's BBQ! No one is afraid to lick fingers. I brought it to their attention that their photos that they were advertising on their truck wasn't what I received. They were kind gave me a whole chicken breast and one wing. I felt that the chicken lacked flavor. Used the BBQ to make up for it. Oh...and missing the onions and peppers. The customer service was wonderful and they were very sweet.

I wanted to like them so badly. I ordered a sausage sandwich with Mac and cheese and baked beans. I got cut up sausage with a piece of bread on top (no bun even though I ordered a sandwich. I was told they ran out of onions an peppers after I paid and received my food. Was not worth $14. Still hungry as well

The tri-tip was cooked to perfection and the mac n cheese was delicious (they give you a portion of the top with the melted cheese on it).

I'm a bit of a chilaquiles snob, but these are easily some of the best I've had in town. The chips actually held their crunch even with all that sauce, which is a rare find. I got mine with their maple habanero chorizo--the perfect balance of sweet and kick. It's a small, local spot, but the flavor they're pushing out of that kitchen is massive. The Breakdown: * Quality: You can tell the chorizo is artisan. It doesn't have that greasy, heavy feeling of the mass-produced stuff. * The Sauce: Perfectly seasoned. Not too salty, just purely flavorful. * Service: Super chill and friendly. It feels like a neighborhood staple because it is. Pro-Tip: Parking can be a bit of a hunt right there on 9th, so just be prepared to walk a block. Also, grab a pound of the loose chorizo to take home for breakfast the next day--you'll thank yourself later.

After adding some ketchup, it was amazing! The sausage had a spicy kick, which I really enjoyed. Service: The staff was friendly and helpful, making it easy to choose from the options available. Atmosphere: This spot offers convenient pull-up service with a few outdoor seating options, making it a casual and easy stop for breakfast. Price: My meal cost $17, which is about average for Los Angeles. Overall: I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

We politely let the cashier and the cook know because we thought maybe there was an issue with the meat. Instead of apologizing or trying to make it right, we were simply told, "That's how they sold us the meat." There was no concern, no acknowledgment of our complaint, and no effort to replace the tacos or offer another option. I understand that suppliers can sometimes send poor-quality products, but that's not the customer's fault. Good customer service is about taking responsibility for the experience you're providing. A simple apology and an offer to replace the tacos would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, the lack of customer service was more disappointing than the food itself. Based on this experience, I won't be returning.
