We came to Beach House on a Monday night with reservations, which I'd definitely recommend. The restaurant is stunning with gorgeous views and such a relaxed, upscale vibe. We all ordered the Mai Tais and they were pretty lime-forward, refreshing, but one was definitely enough. We started with the potstickers and they were delicious. We split the catch of the day and the salad, which was honestly perfect for two people. The fish came with bok choy and rice, and the sauce that accompanied it made a huge difference in flavor. The focaccia bread at the start of the meal was also a big hit, warm, tasty, and perfect with the olive oil. It was my birthday, which made the night even better. Lobster bisque was either out of a can, or had 20x too much cornstarch in it; it had the consistency of a Jello pudding cup and no flavor. Three slivers of lobster on top were mushy and also flavorless. If you want to enjoy the location, do like everyone else does and just come sit on the wall outside the restaurant to catch the sunset. This was our best meal on the island. The location is prestige with great views of the sunset. All the windows were open so everyone had a great view no matter what table you're at. It is a big restaurant that gets crowded for a reason. I truly feel like there were 300 people in there! Yet still enough room and our food came out in a timely manner. Our server was SO great - I wish I remembered her name. She was so sweet and helpful with our baby and also another person who was pregnant. She really took care of us. The first of the day was swordfish which wasn't our personal favorite but the pasta seafood was good. I got the filet mignon with the ulu mash which was yummy. The garlic herb butter was so good with it. The seared ahi steak was also delicious!! And the scallops too! Probably 5/5 all around on the food. The green beans starter were really yummy. This was a surprise visit and not really on the schedule to visit. However, it was the best restaurant we've visit, with scenic views and the probably the best wait staff I've had on the island. We sat next to the window on the ocean side and felt these tables provided the nicest views overall, but the sunset was still not truly visible from our seats. After dinner, we sat along a rock wall on the west side of the restaurant, and found a nice vantage point from this location. There were patio seats along the the outside of the restaurant but were for happy hour patrons only. The most expensive meal in Hawaii. Made a reservation for 5pm Saturday though Open Table, as there were no 530, 6pm, nor 630pm reservations for weeks ahead. The complimentary foccacia baked bread was a step down from previous years, flavor of dinner rolls The $18 smashed cucumber salad came with a ton of chopped mangos drenched in a pool of sesame sauce. Should have ordered the salad with sauce on the side, as the mangos alone would have given the salad plenty of flavor. Wife loved her $53 ahi tuna, expertly cooked seared on the outside and raw on the inside. My $53 macadamia crusted mahi mahi was on the small side at about 4 ounces, without much flavor until you mixed in the lemon celery caper relish. Serving size of both fish was on the small side compared to portions at Coconuts Fish Cafe or Paia Fish Market in Kihei on Maui, and at almost double the price of the Maui restaurants. 4% kitchen service fee added to bring final bill to $135.04 after tax but before tip. And we didn't order drinks nor dessert. Turned out that sunset was not until 620pm, hence all the openings at 5pm, but packed at 6pm. You're paying for the sunset view. Come 7pm or afterwards and you should get a discount, as no view at night read more

We were really looking forward to dining here because we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Merriman's in Maui (same chain ) I would say this paled a bit in comparison food- quality wise. Upscale, dining rooms, excellent service, but food was definitely not worth the bill. The view along the beach reminded us almost exactly of the beautiful beach view of Merrimans on Maui. Great wine menu, they do provide complementary bread before the meal I liked the garlic pieces that were smooshed into the top. I always appreciate when a fancy spot has a kids menu, and my kids chicken meal that came with Ulu mashed potatoes was actually pretty good. The salad we got was a bit sad and bland. I love having Mac crusted fish when I come to Hawaii- their version is tender and I like the light macadamia nut crusting on top, I just didn't feel like it was worth over $60 and I have had decent versions for $40+. We ended up getting the veggie pot pie because we didn't want to get multiple entrées over $60, and surprisingly it was actually really good. I liked that the crossed on top with thin and had a pastry like crisp and fluff to it and the veggies inside were really flavorful. Came for to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and the experience was phenomenal! My boyfriend was greeted 3 times by different staff members when we walked in. We were seated outside near the water 30 minutes before sunset and it was a breath taking view! Our server Kevin was extremely friendly and had great food recommendations for us. We went to The Beach House on our second night in Kaua'i after hearing it was one of the island's "must-try" spots. Unfortunately, the experience was a big letdown. We had a 7:00 pm reservation and were seated a little early, which was nice, but things went downhill quickly. Our server, Tory, came across as impatient and borderline rude while members of our group were still looking over the menu. Speaking of the menu, it's unnecessarily long -- nearly 10 pages, with only two pages of actual food options. They offer maybe three main entrées in total, but page after page of overpriced cocktails and drinks ($9 for a simple lemonade). In addition we overheard another waiter telling his table about the specials of the night which we would have loved to here about since members of our party found it very very difficult to find something to get since there was very slim pickings. Drinks alone took about 20 minutes to arrive. We ordered appetizers and entrées, but portions were extremely small, and the food itself was nothing special. For a restaurant with such a reputation, we expected much better. The atmosphere didn't help either -- it was incredibly loud, with little sense of comfort or intimacy. Yes, the oceanfront view is gorgeous, but you can enjoy the same sunset for free from countless other spots on Kaua'i. Paying nearly $400 for a family meal that was mediocre at best just isn't worth it. On top of that, parking is a headache unless you pay $5 for valet. Overall, The Beach House feels incredibly overrated. Some reviewers compare it to Mama's Fish House on Maui, but after dining at both, I can confidently say this place isn't even close. We went here on our honeymoon and got a glass of champagne on the house to celebrate. Would definitely suggest going here for any occasion - we saw lots being celebrated! We ordered the Monkeypod Mai Tai and the No Ka Oi; husband says the mai tai was his favorite of the trip. We ordered the special (Furikake Crusted Calamari Steak) and the Szechaun StirFry Green Beans which were both delicious. The prices have gotten to be some of the highest around for basic meals of small portions thrown together. Even the drinks are suffering. I ordered a lychee martini and they sent a Cosmo. An example of the inconsistency- they split some plates and others not. The goat cheese salad although all the classic flavors felt thrown together and overdressed. My parents split the macadamia nut crusted swordfish. It was the tiniest piece of fish I had ever seen- 3 bites -that's it for $70. The ahi had mixed reviews. My daughters had a huge fresh piece with no tendon and hot. Mine was a small piece, full of tendon and cold- including the jalepeno mashed potatoes . The only redeeming dish was the venison! Our second trip to this restaurant with the span of two years and it did not disappoint again. I made reservations on OpenTable over two weeks in advance again for our 5:30 Sunday dinner, knowing this was a busy spot and I was only able to get a countertop bar seat. Since it was our anniversary, I had called to see if there might be anything else available. Upon arrival, we were able to get a booth for two that had beautiful views where we could see the sunset, but I have to say the countertop bar would've been fine, also view wise, we just preferred the table. Their menu seems to have condensed from what I remember, but perhaps this allows them to focus on the quality which was definitely equally as good if not better than our first visit. There was only one fresh fish choice which was a mahi type fish macadamia nut crusted, and they also added this fish to the fresh pasta special of the day which my husband had. The fish was fresh and a good portion as we remembered, and we had a Caesar salad to complement. We also were greeted by our server, Molly with complimentary champagne glasses to toast our occasion. We were too full to try the desserts, although the desserts all looked wonderful. If you're looking for a waterfront open air restaurant, this is one of the best in Kauai that we found, and the sunset views never disappoint! Our server was excellent and checked on us several times and was very accommodating. Parking has always been a challenge for us and we later found out that parking is allowed in one of the nearby condo or hotel areas. Go at sunset and book a table with a view. Currently, the patio is very dark. But the view of the sun setting on the ocean was spectacular. The valet duo were hardworking and helpful. The staff is lovely and welcoming from the hosts to the wait staff - John was observant and insightful, Nate took our photo for us. Unfortunately, the chef is not at the level of the property. The cucumber salad with papaya was a good combination but it needed significantly more dressing to balance the bitter greens. My filet came out overcooked. My partner's short rib dish was better. But his bok choy and my swiss chard were bland. Even the mashed potatoes had no personality and were a little gluey. They were kind enough to send over a gluten-free chocolate mochi dessert for our special occasion, but sadly it was terrible. Valet parking is necessary and costs $5.
