The Beachcomber restaurant sits right on the beach. The breakfast and cocktail menu does not disappoint. I had a regular Bloody Mary but regretted my choice when I saw the huge Bloody Mary delivered at the table next door. They have a large outdoor seating area but there was still an hour wait, they give you a buzzer to call you when your table is ready. We didn't mind the wait, we took off our shoes and walked on the beach awhile and had our cocktails and beignets at the bar attached to the side of the restaurant while we waited. I had corn beef hash and eggs, and I was so happy when it was delivered with bell peppers and onions. My fiancée had juevos rancheros which had great flavor. This spot ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. **You park at the bottom parking lot (check the website for details or call for recorded directions) and a shuttle comes by and picks you up to drive you up the hill for 1.50 each way (cash only). Brunch on the beach?! YES, please!! When you think of getting some grub on the beach, you typically think of a patio view of the beach from afar, but at the Beachcomber you are literally on the beach. You walk about 3 feet from the pavement and you are walking on the sand and the water is a few more feet away. There is nothing blocking your view from the sand and water! During the winter holiday there is even a Christmas Tree right out in the sand in front of the restaurant. I came here on Christmas Eve and we had to wait about 40 minutes for a table of 3, which wasn't too bad with the view and all. They do take reservations though! We started off with some Beignets, which were good, but they were a little too airy without enough dough for me. I split the Coconut Macadamia Pancakes and the Steak Chilaquiles. The pancakes were good! There were actual large pieces of macadamia nuts baked inside! It was a good mix of coconut and macadamia nuts. And the pancakes were huge!! But oh man.. the chilaquiles.. were delicious! The tortilla was perfect and not too soggy. The flavor of everything was just perfect! So yummy!! I love this place! My friend introduced me to this place and we went during a weekday around 3pm. Lucky for us, no wait! You have to park across the street and take a shuttle over for $1/one way. So now I am trying to make reservations a head of time on line so I won't miss the window and it's telling me March is to far in advanced to make a reservation so I called and the gentleman on the phone AGAIN was rude and I still can't make a reservation. An absolute favorite food spot right on the beach! It's the perfect place for any celebration meal and has an amazing view of the beach and ocean. I've come here before on a weekend and Friday morning and it is not busy at all on weekday mornings. There are so many great options, but I always get the beignets. Words can't describe how incredible they are, and I have not had beignets like these anywhere else. The breakfast menu is wonderful with pretty big portion sizes and decent prices. My wife and I have made the Beachcomber a special place to celebrate our anniversary! We've been coming there for many years! Being a serious Yelp reviewer, I only enjoy posting entries worth sharing. This Restarant is well worth finding... tucked away on the beach in Crystal Cove, the food is as fantastic as the ocean setting! We were there when the Special, offered for the evening, was the Chilean sea bass. Served on a bed of gluten free noodles, the bass was served with an amazing pesto with pieces of broccoli and asparagus. So so delicious!!! And the service was just as good as the food...big thanks to Chelsea who was so nice, provided us wonderful service, and made our anniversary dinner very special!! Highly recommended!! read more

Omg I have been coming to this place for years and was completely shocked today by the terrible attitude of not 1 staff member but all that we encountered. I got to restaurant around 2:30 on a Wednesday afternoon to have a lunch with my friend. We were told the wait was 1 1/2 hr so we took a long walk on the beach and come back after walking 1 hr because it was super hot with the sun beating down on us. There is no shaded area with any seating for anyone to sit for waiting nor any seating at all so we sat on the stairs on side of restaurant until called to be seated. When they seated us we noticed the table accommodated 6 people and was facing directly into the sun and asked the waiter if we could move to a 4 seat table that was behind us he replied u need to speak to the person that seated you. So we leave table to talk to hostess ( now a different girl) she told us we need to talk to the other hostess who was a guy and he proceeds to tell us that it was saved for a large party? Really our table of 6 and his table of 4 a large party? Not cool ... we walked out and I will never come back here again too many choices of great customer service and lower priced food ... we paid $10 for our beach walk and wasted day ... too many attitudes 4 me. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect from this place. When I first heard about The Beachcomber, it sounded a lot like a tourist trap to me. The restaurant is a little difficult to get to, but they do have a cute shuttle that you can take for $3 per person (round trip). The restaurant is adorable. It is super charming and located right on the beach. The sunset is fantastic. We came on a Monday evening, and there was a little bit of a wait. It was easy to pass the time on the beach and in the bar. We ordered a couple of entrees that were both tasty, but neither was extraordinary. We also got a side of Brussels sprouts that were probably the best dish we had that night. my family and i usually love the beachcomber but this fathers day we were tremendously disappointed. our waitress Nancy completely forgot about our table. we waited on four dishes for over an hour and were not informed until the last minute that "a mistake had been made" on her end. she was generally unapologetic and admitted to getting distracted twice within the time we were dining. instead of offering us any discount upfront to compensate for the awful service, she offered my dad a mimosa (which already came free with his meal for Father's Day) to top it all off, she even forgot to give us the check, making us wait an additional twenty minutes. this really sucked and was especially disappointing for my dad, who insisted on dining at the beachcomber on his special day, and left not wanting to come back :( read more

OK, but not great. But it had some pluses. Sunday, arrived at 9:30 for breakfast. We knew we would have to wait. We were summoned about an hour later. The day was perfect, some residual clouds, but the sun came through. So did the seals doing the backstroke nearby. Cute. Good service. Thank You Priscilla. Not really fond of the ice water, had an aftertaste. With a classy place like this, you think they could maybe filter the water? Or should I be buying the bottled stuff. Not a very interesting breakfast menu. I've seen better. With such a beautiful location, you would think they could do a better menu. Maybe they are afraid of too much success? I ordered the Crab Benedict ($15). The hollandaise was tasty, the crab cakes had too much bell pepper for my taste, and it was obviously canned crab. Breakfast potatoes, coulda/shoulda passed on that. Mr. B had the corned beef hash. Unremarkable. Don't remember the price, but it was in the teens too. Wandered around the little office area afterwards where you can arrange to stay in one of the quaint 1920's bungalows for the low low price of $190 a night. Ptoooeey, it's old and not particularly with modern amenities. But the old pictures and guy telling us about the history of Crystal Cove was interesting. Hopped on the shuttle, $1 per person, to get back to our parking on the other side of the highway. At least we did not have to pay for parking (but make sure bring your voucher from the restaurant). Now I can say, I've been there, done that. But I don't have to do that again. read more

Before lounging at Crystal Cove Beach, my girlfriend and I stopped by here on a Thursday afternoon for some lunch. The restaurant is beachfront and the parking is across PCH - you can either take a 5-10 min walk through a tunnel or along a trail to the restaurant, or pay $1.50 to take the shuttle. Our wait time was said to be 20-30 mins but as soon as we walked away from the hostess, our buzzer went off and we got a table on the patio with a great view of the beach! To start, we ordered the grilled artichoke. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The sauce it came with was AMAZING! I could have eaten just that with a spoon. As for my main dish, I felt like ordering something I don't usually get so I ordered the Lobster Club with no bacon and I am so glad I did. The lobster salad was seasoned very well and was sandwiched between two buttery, crispy, pieces of bread. It came with a side of fries which were pretty good. Along with the good food, our waiter Oscar was fantastic. He was so up-beat and friendly and remained that way even after going back and forth to bring us all the things we had asked for. The only reason I am not giving this place five stars is because of the artichokes. I was really enjoying my half until I got to the last few leaves. The last few bites of it tasted like lighter fluid. I took the third artichoke half home and when I was eating it later that evening, it tasted HEAVILY like lighter fluid. There's not much dining space inside so it felt a bit cramped. Wait staff were polite and professional, nothing out of the ordinary. However, they failed to validate my parking as advertised. So in addition to the expensive food, I ended up also having to pay full price for my parking at Los Trancos Parking area. Our experience today was super disappointing here though. Jesus was our server, and i believe he only talked to us 2 times. Once to take our order, and the second time to pay our bill. He never checked on us or came by to do anything really, but he checked on all tables surrounding us. We had asked for ranch two separate times and still never received it. What an extremely beautiful location. So first off if you have not been here come. Make a reservation. Could save you waiting an hour. The view makes it worth it. But the food, is average. For what their pricing is, it should be better. I can get a really nice breakfast at Flapjacks or Waffle House. And as many people they had working there, the service was really slow. As I mentioned the pricing, to me is a bit expensive. I found $41 for 2 breakfasts a bit much. That does not include the $6 tip. So nearly $50. I think you are mostly paying for the view. Now the food is good. I thought my combination of chicken friend steak and eggs with an arugula salad was unusual. And truly the arugula salad did not belong on that plate. The chicken friend steak was too thin and crunchy. Eggs were perfect. For $16.95 it just was not worth. Left more than half behind. Now fiance had their Brioche French Toast. I had a little bit of that and it was good. Nice flavors although my fiance did not like the candied pecans. But she's an RD and go figure. I loved them. Definitely something we should have shared. There is a parking across the street and you can take the tunnel directly from the parking to the beach where restaurant is, if you show the receipt to the attendant when leaving the lot, parking is t no charge for the restaurant patrons. It seemed to take a while so we thought we would walk but that was a mistake so we turned around and waited for the shuttle. After a bumpy road, we were dropped off and then had to walk towards the beach. After the check in, took some very steep stairs up to the restaurant. The outdoor space was completely covered and had heat lamps feeling like a sauna. It was a special occasion and we requested a front ocean view table but got stuck in the back. Waited a while to get some service. By the time our server came, we decided to keep it simple. Ordered a bowl of clam chowder and fish and chips to split. The order took a while to be delivered to our table. Clam chowder was lukewarm and extremely salty. Fish and chips disappointing, as there really wasn't much fish. I'm not sure if I'll be coming back here again. You're definitely coming here (and paying) for the beachfront view. That's it. The food served on the dinner menu is mediocre for the price you're paying. They gave us a 2.5 hour wait time, which worked initially for us since my family had been planning to spend a few hours in the water and lounging at the beach. We waited close to 3 hours. I think depending on the time of day you're coming, add on an extra 30 mins to an hour to the initial wait time they give you. If you're lucky enough to be seated early, count your lucky stars. As mentioned previously, food was just okay. I went in with high expectations since it was heavily praised by some friends who'd been here before and the numerous 4-5 star review on Yelp. It was meh, just meh. Many of the dishes we ordered tasted under-seasoned. The one exception was the beignet--that was delicious, very light and fluffy and not oily at all. If I do come back, it's to get another taste of that. Their drinks were also fine, decently strong. Maybe I'll come back for another Moscow and beignet. The server we got was kind, really catered to us. Checked on our food when we asked and came back with updates despite being busy. I really wish I remembered his name, since he provided excellent service and we were very happy. They also validate parking, so hold onto your ticket. By the way, the walk down through nature to the beach/restaurant is lovely. I highly recommend skipping the bus if you're up for a nice walk through the lush greenery. read more

I didn't get a chance to try it, but its owner put down half, and said it was good. Bacon, cheddar, and avocado omelet- Also a very big omelet, with lots of bacon. This stood out in a good way due to the quantity of very high quality bacon. My daughter had this, ate a little less than half, and was stuffed. She loved it. I had a couple of bites and it is something I would order. Corned beef hash and eggs- I considered getting this, but am glad I didn't. My wife ordered it, stated that it was okay, but the issue is that it wasn't a traditional hash. It had a larger dice of corned beef, and the portion was good, but it lacked that crispy salty thing I look forward to in a hash. Give me the can! Chilaquiles- Wow! These were really, really good. I wasn't expecting much, but they really surprised me with this dish. Beef braised to tender in guajillo sauce, soaked chips, crema, cotija, scallions, diced tomato, avocado cream, over easy egg. I think there was more braised beef in this dish than there were tortilla chips. The flavors were explosive and well married. The textures of uber tender moist beef, and a little give on the chips, just worked so well. I couldn't finish it all, and gave my wife some. She loved it too.
