Charlene here was GREAT, amazing bartender who served our drinks perfectly! Pictured is the Pina Colada drink she made me & she was so understanding of me liking sweet drinks.... There was another bartender who switched with her though that made the drinks 90% alcohol and it made me throw up at home with home much was in the drink despite me telling her I don't like tasting the alcohol. The chick was unwilling to lower the alcohol for me.... Good thing was my boyfriend got the shot he wanted & enjoyed his drinks. What's nice is there is 2 hour parking right outside so no paid parking & the music is great, overall a great vibe in here but the fact I had 4 sips of a TERRIBLY made drink ruined the 5/5 star rating for me.

Its ok, lots of changes with a few new bartenders. The floor is dirty AF, its a working class crowd. If you want a good bar experience, come before noon! I mean, i still go here but i know what im in for ya know. Don't bring any boujee dates here thats for sure. Beer is the main staple here and quick to make drinks...bloody mary an koolaids are big here.

It's odd. Bears hibernate in dens. It's not far from The Bears to Willow Den. But the Den uses the symbol of a pig to say they're a "public house". Or a pub. The Bears is a pub. A dive. A juke joint. A pool hall. Most times, everyone in here is cool AF. Vinny always has his leather jacket on. He's half Native and people always confuse him for some type of Latino. The lovely Bessy allowed me to flirt with her and play her sweet music on the juke box. The pool tables play great. The felt is good. The tables are well maintained. Even the house cues are mostly all very good. And. The Bears is located on a very historic section of San Carlos, near their sister bar, Alex's 49er. This has always been a bit of a seedy area. Jerry Rice once got arrested around here looking for a happy ending. Somebody offered to show me a glory hole just a couple hundred feet away from the bears the other night. The area is filled with sex shops, strip clubs, bars, liquor stores, smoke shops.... Etc. But. I say The Bears rises above it all. It is a good place. The bartenders there are as tough as they need to be, and cool as fuck. Plus. I know how to get cussed out by the prettiest lady in the Willow Den (glad we were able to shake hands, lesbian Rita, who has a sweet dog and girlfriend. I am sure you are a kick-ass bartender.) And to the other lady, with the bandana. Yes. You were the prettiest lady in a room filled with beautiful women. I'm not going to be around here much longer. I'm just a kid from SJ, who has woman troubles. I'm moving to Cleveland. But when I return to visit CA, I know there's a great place to have a cold one and shoot some pool. A classy cocktail lounge? A seedy dive? The Bears is perfect. The bartenders there take care of those in need. Like a good bartender should. I've been thrown out of classier places than this. They didn't throw me out of here. But that tough beautiful woman wanted to kick my ass. I lost on purpose so I wouldn't have to play her. I don't like fights. And that pretty lady wanted to fight me. So I bounced right on out. Edit** "Katie and Jess" are both as classic as a good tender can be. I have faith in anyone who is behind this bar. The people who run it and hang out in it are classic people. Salt of the Earth. And there are Ethiopians on this block Cradle of life.

I couldn't wait to get back to a computer update this review... The greatest thing about this bar is that most everyone is friendly. I love it! You can strike up a conversation or don't & watch whatevers on the TV's. The bartenders are great & the people are fun. You can't go wrong here!! =D

Hello, Welcome to the Bear's, this is an awesome spot to chill & hang out with the regulars. The bartenders very cool, my favourite lady is Elizabeth (Liz.....) as we all know her as. Knows my drinks and watches for you, calls the Uber as needed. Plus karaoke every Friday and pool tournament most days.... prices reasonable. A plus is the bus stop is only a block away. I'll 've back again & again....

I love the Bear's! Sarah made me this delicious Manhattan with cherry vanilla bitters. To die for!

Service was fantastic! Everyone was very focused, attentive, and on the ball. I was also impressed with their brunch menu. We don't eat out often for breakfast or brunch as we're just not interested in breakfast items at restaurants. But their brunch menu looked great. It had a fairly large selection. 3 words: Asian Chicken Salad. OMG I know some people don't understand how someone could actually order a salad and enjoy it. I am one of those people! I just love a good salad. But it has to be a GREAT salad to truly rave about it in a review. This salad was so good! The amount of dressing was perfect as well as the seasoning and flavor. The grilled chicken was cooked to perfection. And the crunch from the fried wontons and cashews were the star. I honestly couldn't stop eating it. John took a couple of bites and he agreed. I can't even stop thinking about it. Hint to John: Surprise me one day with this salad. You will get big points. Or this can be our new date trip--farmers market and lunch at Water Tower Kitchen.

Great Views & Fun Atmosphere…read more I like this restaurant because you can look straight out at the historic water tower while you eat! It's a trendy, bright restaurant and sports bar with 19 big screens, so there's definitely a fun atmosphere. Restrooms: Decent, clean, and bright. Parking: Free, but limited within the complex. Service: Friendly and efficient, although a little slow. They also offer private event bookings on the second floor, with an open bar, bartender, and private waiter to accommodate the event. For our event, we had a pretty big spread: fruit platter, chicken wings, hummus platter with chickpea salad, marinated heirloom tomatoes, flatbreads and cucumber, pretzels with house honey mustard and beer cheese, tower fries, marinated steak, garlic noodles, mac and cheese buns, Asian chicken salad, garlic flank steak, and oven paprika chicken. The open bar was only $14 per person and included a selection of soda, juice, draft beer, wine, and sparkling wine. Pretty reasonable for a private event!

We started off with a full order of wings split between the Honey BBQ and the Hong Kong flavors. The Honey BBQ was good but the Hong Kong wings had a unique savory flavor that kept us wanting more. The prime rib was fantastic - tender, juicy, and an excellent deal for the portion size. The veggies and potatoes did the job but understood they weren't the main attraction. Because the Thursday night special is popular, be prepared to wait for a bit. It's a great spot to catch a game, grab a drink, and enjoy the Happy Hour deals (there's a different one for every weekday!). Great vibes, lots of screens, and attentive service even though it was busy. We're definitely adding it to our restaurant rotation.

He let me see the menu while he was diligently wiping each of them and walked me through my options. The next day I came for happy hour. The food menu was great. We ordered mock tail, chicken wings with 2 flavors, garlic fries, a chicken Pho, which was not on HH menu, and all that food filled us up. The food was also quite above my expectations. Garlic fries has good amount of chopped garlic; the chicken wings of BBQ and HK Style both had deep flavors. The pho was tasty and a good comfort food. Their dessert menu was what we were saving for last. There are so many varieties. The chocolate lava cake was nicely decorated with ice cream and berries for $9! And so is the pandan panna cotta and a gigantic croissant bread pudding which was moist, dense and rich in flavor with the hint of cinnamon. The place has long tables for big parties as well as 3-4 seaters along with some high bar seats along the wall. Big screens were mounted on the wall for whoever was following games. Our waiter was super friendly and on top of our needs; he gave us good suggestions and brought boxes before we asked.

I ordered the spicy basil chicken curry with coconut rice -- it was decent, but nothing particularly memorable or worth going out of your way for. The calamari leaned heavily on batter, overwhelming the actual seafood, and the Brussels sprouts were overly dressed to the point where the flavors felt unbalanced. Overall, it's a solid spot for group logistics and atmosphere, but from a food standpoint, it felt average. Not bad, just not something I'd prioritize for a return visit.
