My fiance and I went here for dinner last night and we were pleasantly surprised! They have a nice selection of beer and wine. The service was great- prompt, friendly and reliable. The menu had a "something for everyone" vibe to me, everything from salads to mac and cheese. I got a chicken dish and my fiance got a smoked brisket. Mine was delicious but his was sadly really dry. I've eaten here twice in the last month, both times it was excellent. The first time I had the butternut squash sandwich and the second time the black bean burger. I can't say enough about the oatmeal raisin cookies! The staff was friendly and the food was served quickly. Upstairs there is a little porch, providing some additional outside seating. We found this place after cycling on the East Bay Bike Path, so that is close by too. read more

Visited for restaurant week and it was a disaster. If restaurant week is a chance to show your best then they had an epic failure. Cold mashed potato and lukewarm pot roast. Sent back and returned to the table with not much difference. Once the plate goes back the Rhythm of the meal is gone. One dinner is finishing with cold food while waiting for the returned plate to come back to the table. The second dinner was risotto that was mushy and more the consistency of mashed potatoes. All for $104.00. The finish was Creme brule that had separated and was watery Dining room was loud. Chairs uncomfortable. Tables such that at my height 6'3" if I put my feet flat to the floor my legs lifted the table off the floor. Now for the part that I find absolutely unforgivable. The server was left in the middle by management. At the end of the meal no discussion on removing the creme brulee from the bill. The server was left to take the heat for the sins of the kitchen and the management. this place is so cute and SOOO rhode island. they have a great selection of farm to table sandwiches, salads, soups. i have come for brunch twice, and have actually opted for vegetarian meals (which is def atypical for me) 1. black bean burger- this is actually very heavy because the patty is mostly bean and not rice. it comes with a side of either salad or chickpeas. 2. grilled cheese with chutney, grilled onions and tomato with a side of tomato bisque. omg never had grilled cheese before and this was AMAZING. the soup was also purreed but with still chunks of tomato so i loved it. 3. butternut squash sandwich with a side of salad. the salad dressing was bomb. they sell the house dressing on the side (which i purchased). the butternut squash sandwich was absolutely delectable and the fresh pesto spread was just FAB. i def want to come back and actually get breakfast. just note: you must come early and be prepared for a wait (you order. sit down. and they bring you your food). you can estimate it based on how long the line goes down the street. it is right by the water, so you can have a lovely stroll as you wait for the line to die down. i just wish the upstairs patio was actually on the water and not overlooking a roof.... read more

It's hard to not love this place. It's small, artful, and the food is delicious. I came once a long time ago for breakfast and thought it was excellent, and I returned this past Thursday night for dinner (evidently they serve dinner Thurs-Sat). Here are the highlights for me: 1. A bottle of water on the table to prevent empty glasses and nagging the waitress for refills. Always a good choice. 2. The beer and wine list was really thorough for such a small place, and they had a lot of GF options (beers and ciders, even). The GF ginger beer we had was almost too good to be beer, in my opinion. 3. Sweet lord, the food! I had a tomato soup and butternut squash sandwich because #winter, and it hit the spot. Normally I'm a person who loves to share food (sharing is caring! and it will also prevent my fork going through your hand), but I was reluctant to give away any bites. The only thing that made me surrender was the fact that my date got mushroom toast, and that must be the bread of angels the Bible talks about. I'm definitely getting that next time! 4. Fried chick peas. Who does that? I don't know how much healthier they are for you than regular fries (especially when consumed in vast amounts... perhaps portions could be smaller? for people with no self-control), but they sure were tasty and unique! 5. The staff was so friendly, and my food came out very quick! It's right near a small park overlooking the water too, so you can take your food to eat it there too. Looking for a late breakfast while driving through this area, Yelp led me to this little spot. It is very popular with bikers and neighborhood regulars and had a nice bustle of activity, very beehive I thought. That said, it was one of the most confusing places to figure out. It is an "order from the counter and the wait staff finds you" places. Okay, but there the seating is outdoors or upstairs, and all that took a while to explore. Then, things like water and jams and other things needed are not something they bring when they come. So then they say they will return with it, time passes and everything cools. And they aren't actually one's waiter so what to do? The breakfast was lovely, very good, and the company and outdoors much enjoyed, but the service works smoothly only for regulars. read more

However, after 5+ awful experiences with the wait staff, (mostly one waitress with a huge attitude) I will no longer come here. I gave them a break at first because it's COVID and I am sure it's stressful, but it's been 8+ months and their attitudes have not changed. The beehive cafe is a cute, hipster but cozy place. You walk in & the till is right there, but they do have additional seating upstairs and outside. We didn't have any troubles finding a place to sit. The drinks are phenomenal...the biscotti latte is delicious, the frozen raspberry lemonade is refreshing, and my butternut squash sandwich with a side salad was to die for. Very fresh food. Lots of options. The wait staff was very friendly. A little annoying that straws were on the first floor and not the second..I felt like I had to walk up and down stairs multiple times. I've enjoyed lunch at Beehive a few times now and it is wonderful! They menu is extensive and there's a little bit on there for everyone. Sandwiches come with either a salad of fried chickpeas - try the chickpeas, they're addictive! I've been a little naughty every time I've gone here and typically get something with extra thick bread, lots of cheese and perhaps once with a little bacon. YUM! They also have super yummy salads, a mediterranean plate (can't ever refuse a meditterannean plate!) and smoothies too! THIS PLACE! Why, oh why can't it be located in my home, or down the street at the very least? I want to live here. Seriously. The cafe is located in an old house in quaint downtown Bristol, a gaze from the water. The food is fresh and delicious. the coffee wonderful and al fresco dining can be done either on the patio or balcony. I've been for both breakfast and lunch. I personally find the seating hard and uncomfortable, so this isn't really a destination you can perch in all day. Breakfast is served until 3:30 p.m., so if you find yourself desperate for a midday sanny order up an egg sandwich stacked high with two sunny sides, vermont cheddar, tomatoes and arugula (I personally always add bacon +$2). The potato flatbread will practically melt in your mouth. When I'm here for lunch I'm typically starvin', and while my figure calls for a butternut squash sandwich, my tummy opts for the grass fed beef burger which comes whole-hog: smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, and pea shoots on that amazing potato flatbread. The patty is on the small size but ample for a girl watching her intake. It comes with either greens or fried chickpeas. And they offer a gluten free, homemade flax seed bread for +$2. A word to the wise: once you order up drinks and sweet treats, the bill can really add up. If you can exercise willpower go either or, OR split with a loved one. read more

Excellent location in downtown bristol and right by a park where you can take your coffee or tea and enjoy the scenery. Things went downhill when they started serving food. Where I used to be able to have a great cappuccino and work on some papers turned into a place I felt rushed at because someone was looking for a table so they could eat their lunch. In my opinion the place should chose whether they want to be a restaurant or coffee joint because to try and be both is frustrating for both the person wanting to enjoy a coffee and read a paper and the person who wants to have a sandwich with their friends but can't find a table because people are having coffee and reading. Sweet Jesus. This was one of the best meals I have had in a very long time. I had the black bean burger with no cheese. The bread they typically make it on a bun that contains dairy, and without my asking she began to explain to me all the other options that I had. The lady behind the counter was extremely knowlegable and oh, so helpful. My black bean burger was absolutely heavenly, too. I thought that no blackbean burger could take the place of Julian's delectable concoction in my heart, but this was unbelievably flavorful and held together extraordinarily well. I usually have a mound of pieces of the patty on my plate, but I was able to eat the whole thing as a sandwich without making a hella mess. I was so impressed! And the salsa on the burger was HEAVENLY. Homemade, fresh, the perfect amount of spice. We sat on the porch, which had a gorgeous view of the water, and the most adorable little cafe tables. My latte wasn't half bad either =) They have this fantastic little program where you can bring in your fresh-homegrown produce into the cafe in exchange for credit with the restaurant. So great!! They also compost much of their waste. I am very rarely in Bristol, but you can bet your boots that I will be making the trip more often for regular appearances at the Beehive. Yum. read more

oo ooo OOOO is this place good! Came here for lunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon after being told that it is the best place in Bristol for food. One time here and I am sayin the saaaaaame thing, my friend! Im actually nervous for my wallet and waistline since I live all but 3 blocks from this amazing gem of a cafe....and can see myself coming here...A LOT. Step down into the main cafe area where a friendly worker is waiting to take your breakfast, lunch or dinner order! It has an almost cabin like feeling when you step in side; there is beautiful wood all around, including an open wooden staircase leading to additional seating upstairs. There are no waitresses here - you just grab an oversized menu when you walk in, make your decision, look at the chalkboard hanging to the right of the cashier to select your drink option, and let the friendly cashier know what you'll be having! They give you silverware once youve paid, and a plastic zoo animal in place of a buzzer. This animal is used as a way to know who gets what order! So cute and creative. I like cute and creative. I ordered the black bean burger with avocado, vermont cheddar, and arugula arranged on a homemade potato bun served with a side of fried chickpeas. I also had their iced green tea concoction with fresh lime and a splash of some other citrus yumminess! My boyfriend ordered the Carolina style BBQ pulled pork sandwich, and graciously allowed me to sample a bite. It was SO tender, it melted in my mouth... it tasted like butter only better because it was BBQ pulled pork;). Our two meals and two glasses of delicious iced green tea cost 31 dollars even. With tip we came in just under 40 bucks. Not the cheapest of lunch options, but the portions were delicious and very filling, and it ended up being our big meal of the day anyway! (We came in for a bite around 2:15pm....) There is limited outdoor seating, both on the main level and upstairs on a small deck, so be on top of your game if you're trying to enjoy that outdoor eating vibe. We originally sat inside on the upper level, but were able to snag a table on the upstairs deck after for some people left before our meal arrived. We waited probably 15 - 20 minutes for the food to be dropped, but it was well worth the not so long wait. You bus your own table at the end of your meal, although Im not sure everyone in there got this memo. Overall I absolutely love the vibe of this place, and will definitely be back for more delicious and nutritious meals!! read more

Beehive is now officially one of my favorite spots in RI. It is truly like no place that I have ever been to in RI before. Walking into the Beehive, it almost feels like you are in the White Mountains. It is rustic, small town feel, with lots of positive energy, lively, and just warming. It is laid back, relaxing, and soothing. It kind of makes you forget about everything that you were thinking of when you went in, and everything that you have to do afterwards. It has a view of the ocean, but is not on the main street so is a little quiet. The charm and character of the beehive, makes me want to get to know more. The local food and baked goods and the small selection of pantry items to buy truly sets it apart from most other places. It is unique food, fresh, local, and delicious. Everything on the menu, and at the storefront, just sounds breathtaking. I went with the french toast and chocolate milk. We sat upstairs, outside on this cute little deck that holds about 6 people. It overlooks the water, and is small and quiet enough you feel like you are on your backporch. The french toast was unreal. It was thick, moist, with so much flavor. The chocolate milk was also one of the best I ever had. While coming for breakfast, they also have lunch, and dinner (and alcohol!) Even though I am allergic to Bees... the Beehive is going to be my new special favorite spot! read more

We were recommended this place while visiting Bristol and we're excited to go to a small cafe and support a local business. It was fairly busy when we went with few tables - we would have preferred to eat at a table but it seemed like we weren't going to have any luck. Just before we placed our order one of our party found a table and so we were excited that we would be able to eat there. At that point one of the waiters said that we were not allowed to reserve a table before ordering. I said that I was just about to order but the waitress insisted that that was not allowed and that no tables could be reserved. However we saw many people that had one person sitting at a table calling out orders to somebody in the line. It seemed like we were being singled out unnecessarily. We ended up walking down the street and finding a bench to eat our food. The food was OK, my daughter ordered French toast and she complained that the bread was sour. I ordered an egg sandwich with hashbrowns and the bun was flavorless as were the hashbrowns. I would say that our experience there was fairly negative with confusing table policies, mixed messages, and somewhat confrontational staff. I certainly won't go there again and I wouldn't recommend anyone go there either. read more

What an excellent spot for brunch! On vacation, we were checking out the Bike path and had worked up an appetite biking from Barrington. We stopped for brunch at Beehive. (The location right off the the bike path is perfect!) The baked goods case alone is cause for celebration: gluten free treats, healthy bars and muffins and sweet pastries. Plus packaged granola to take home. (It's delicious!) My aunt and I shared sweet and savory plates so that we got to try a bit of everything. The lemon ricotta pancakes were sweet and fluffy, with the 100% maple syrup on the side that I have learned not to take for granted! We also had the butternut squash hash with two eggs and toast. This was just delicious: a unique and seasonally fun dish! Our coffees were also excellent and they had soy milk. Logistics: You order downstairs and the food is brought to your table. Mixed bag here after two lunch trips while back in town for a visit. The sandwiches are incredibly delicious and you get a ton of food for the price. The quality of ingredients, the bread, the sides, are all great. On the downside, the service was pretty slow. We ordered sandwiches to go in the evening and I was surprised that they did not feel the need to tell us it would take 45 minutes to get them . It ended up taking an hour to just get three sandwiches and it was not at all crowded. And for any vegetarians, be cautious, my girlfriend found a piece of bacon in her veggie sandwich. This happens from time to time wherever we go and she was not crazed about it, but I know some vegetarians would be. read more

The food is mostly locally grown, organic, healthy but also decadent. They close between 3:30 and 5:00 for a menu change on the weekends (you can still get coffee in that time, though). ! Had dinner with my wife one night this past fall. My entree, The Ricotta Gnocchi, was very well crafted. Gnocchi was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately our appetizer, the Baked Tortilla Plate. (which we shared between the two of us) was a bit disappointing. While the flavors were very nice, the chips were all mostly broken, hidden beneath a few whole chips placed on top. It resembled the bottom of a bag of tortilla chips that had been thrown around a bit. While not a deal breaker, we kind of felt we got what ever little scraps were left in the chip bag at the end of the night. It just seems silly that something that actually takes talent and skill, like cooking good gnocchi can be hit out of the park. While something that takes so little skill, like plating a chip order, can be such a fail. read more

Visiting a friend who was visiting from out of country, pulled up Yelp and planned an adventure. Food/Beverages: I went with the Salmon BLT with a side of their fried chickpeas. I thought the sandwich and the chick peas were mediocre. The bread was too thick or the salmon too sparse you pick, just not properly balanced to my liking. I've never had fried chick peas but I enjoy them in most dishes they're part of so I figured would give it a shot. They just didn't have alot of flavor to them, if it were me I would have jazzed them up with some heat. Our friend had the maple bacon pancakes which were as expected quite tasty. My lady got the rosemary biscuits with eggs and hollandaise which was also quite nice, very well executed biscuits.The best thing we had to eat was the lemon ricotta pancake, I can't think of a way to improve on this. I really wish we would have ordered more than just one, but I did appreciate the fact that you could order 1-3 pancakes to try them out. I also ordered a caramel latte and their coffee which were both satisfactory but not memorable. Ambiance/Service: This was probably a house at one point that got converted and is nestled between some other shops with a view of the water. Most of the seating is upstairs at small 2-4 seater tables with a couple of tables on the patio and more seating outside at ground level. You wait in line to order and the food arrived within 15 minutes of ordering, not too bad considering they were starting to get busy from the lunch crowd. Bottom Line: This was a solid 3 star place, definitely worth checking out especially if the weather is nice and you can snag a table on the balcony. read more
