Having lived in California for most of my life, I am spoiled by the utterly near perfect, and possibly scientifically engineered, Paso and Napa vintages. I first found the sister restaurant to this restaurant, I can't recall the name, but it's just down the street- upon arrival there we were told they could not accommodate 9 of us and rerouted us to The Bellwether. We arrived at the Bellwether, where our group was accommodated promptly. I was hoping for their stellar breakfast offerings, but sadly they only offer them in a.m. lol. The inside was beautiful, classy, yet rustic trendy, again playing on the theme of the old building it was stationed in. Think brick, dim lit, huge beautiful bar, grand wood accents & tables, chandelier lighting in conjunction with industrial vibes- a nice experience. My boyfriend and I went here on NYE and it quickly became my favorite restaurant in St Louis! For good reason, their attention to details and the flavor compositions of their dishes are amazing. I remember reading the menu and thinking some combinations seemed odd but when trying them, wow these chefs are geniuses! Came for Saturday brunch! Started with cinnamon crunch French toast sticks for the table, they were amazing. The maple praline was everything with the fresh berries & whipped cream. I don't usually go for sweets but I thought this was better than my main entree! We 100% would recommend this place to anyone interested in a calm/relaxing environment with amazing food and service. This allowed us to be able to have conversation without shouting but also take in the atmosphere. My wife and I just got married and reserved a table here to celebrate after getting recommendations from multiple coworkers and it was perfect. They were all kind and excited for us and our new relationship status. We got there right before happy hour which was perfect because we were able to try multiple appetizers and cocktails for less of the price. We looked through the menu ahead of time and wanted to try so many things, so it truly worked out for us. If you enjoy mussels, this place serves them and they are AMAZING. The broth is perfect. For dinner my bride had the scallops which she says were cooked to perfection and I had the hanger steak which was flavorful and tender. The drinks were delicious and there was plenty of variety to choose from. We came there on a Friday evening and were seated right away without reservations. We got lucky but I would generally advise to make reservations. Ambiance was pleasant with adequate lighting and moderate noise level. My food review is based on the dinner menu. I really liked the food menu, options weren't overwhelming which I love. They had plenty of vegetarian dishes mostly pasta based and some vegan options. I had the steak cooked medium with delicious veggies on the side. My date had a pasta dish with wild mushroom. Loved the atmosphere, drinks, meal, and service. The space is moody with plenty of sunlight during the early evening hours. There's a great patio too, but it was just too hot today to sit outside. The cocktail menu pays homage to classic novels, and I love that! To drink, I had the 2666, which is a citrusy tequila drink with a cucumber slice (I literally can't put into words how good it was). We had the beef tartare and cheeseboard fish start - you could definitely make a meal off the small plates if you wanted to. We also ordered a Cesar salad (bright and tangy) to share. Best Cesar salad I've ever had. I had the salmon, which is served on a bed of greens dressed in tahini dressing. Second time coming here. Had a brunch with my gf and a couple friends reserved. They sat us immediately in the 2nd floor (which I have never been to). It was like a wine cellar and window to the rock climbing place in the same building. They all ordered mimosas (bottomless; 18 a pop; I believe it's only one version of the mimosa) and I ordered a Breakfast at Tiffany's (not a big mimosa fan so I wanted to try something different) Austin, our waiter, was very attentive and gave us great suggestions on food. My friend and I decided to grab a Saturday lunch from the Bellwether. It is located on the 3rd floor with a grand, well-stacked bar and cozy, spacious booths. We had an 11am reservations. We were immediately seated and soon after, our waiter came to take our drink orders. I wanted to try their Breakfast at Tiffany's cocktail. It was good but I settled on a mimosa for my next drink as I saw several tables ordering them. They do have a bottomless option for $18 or $8/glass. I ordered the bacon fried rice because it sounded really delicious. My friend ordered the animal house animal with smashed fried potatoes. It took quite a long time for our orders to arrive but when the food finally came, I was very excited. My bacon fried rice smelled tantalizing and the sunny side up egg on top looked perfect as well. Taste-wise, it was grand and full of flavors. However, the rice wasn't cooked well or evenly as I crunched on some uncooked rice the entire meal. It was quite disappointing. I've stopped picking on my food for a good 20 minutes before the waiter asked if I wanted a box for my food. I said I did and it took yet another 20 minutes to get a box and our check. Since I have other appointments to keep after our lunch, we did not want to dilly dally but service was just too slow for my taste. The quickest thing was probably the drinks and then we basically sat for a long time waiting for everything. The ambiance was nice overall. Our waiter was pleasant enough. I would like to try this place out for dinner sometime and hope I am blown away then because so far, this experience did not blow me away. read more

Just in case you are reading this to decide to go to the Bellwether and you have never been. He's my quick take. Set a reservation, maybe request a booth they are super cozy, also the host stand is on the third floor, just be ready for that. This was an anniversary of sorts and my second visit to the Bellwether. Both visits the service was phenomenal and the experience was grand. The ambiance is dark, romantic and intriguing. The small plate hummus was a really good hummus. I don't get excited about hummus often, but the mushrooms with it were a perfect flavor combination. I'm under the impression they change up the menu often so if they still have it next time, I'd totally get it. Duck, is well. I've decided I don't like duck, at all. My bad. I will say I loved everything around it. My partners salmon on the other hand, that's what I should have ordered! He loved the sauce on the side and said the salmon was perfectly cooked. read more

We went for Mother's Day. The reservations were super easy, there was plenty of parking in the lot in front, and it was not too crowded. You enter in and follow signs to take an elevator upstairs to the restaurant. The decor is super cute and everything looks very pretty. The hostess was very accommodating and asked if we wanted to be inside or outside. We choose inside. We tried to order a cinnamon roll for the table but they came back and told us they were out ( ). We got the French toast sticks instead and they were delicious. Like an elevated memory of French toast sticks from childhood. I loved that they came with fruit, homemade whipped cream, and a nutty spread. This was probably my fave dish of the day. My daughter got a waffle that was as big as my head. She liked it. My husband got biscuits and gravy, cheesy eggs, and potatoes. It needed a little seasoning but over all pretty good! I got the eggs Benedict plate. I didnt love the hollandaise sauce but loved the smashed potatoes. It is an upscale dining place so the prices were pretty typical and the portion sizes smaller for the price -- but again typical for the type of restaurant it is. They had a mocktail list and it was one of the best mocktails I have ever had. Overall it was a fun experience and we all liked our food and how cute it was there. The bellwether is so cute and was the perfect spot for brunch! When you arrive, the building doesn't look like much, but once you get up to the 3rd floor you walk into a very cute cozy restaurant. Being on the 3rd floor also gives this spot an awesome view! I could see the Arch from our table. I can never decide between savory and sweet for brunch, so we got both! I ordered the biscuits and gravy, my boyfriend ordered the burger, and we split the Cinnamon Toast Crunch French toast. All 3 items were AMAZING. The French toast was crispy on the outside and perfectly soft and fluffy on the inside. It came with 3 topping choices - normal syrup, maple praline syrup, and whipped cream (plus berries came on the side). I love that they're cut into strips so you could dip each bite into something new and get to enjoy all 3 options. The burger was juicy and delicious. I loved the sweet and sour pickles on top - they gave the perfect flavor and crunch. The fries came with spicy ketchup which packed a tasty punch. The biscuit and gravy were out of this world. The cheddar and thyme in the biscuits added so much flavor. Plus the gravy has both sausage AND bacon in it! Why doesn't everyone do that?? I got my eggs over easy and they were perfectly drippy, and I liked having the yolk mixed with some of the gravy. Dined at The Bellwether for the first time this past Saturday for my fiancés birthday after hearing so many people rave about the food, drinks and atmosphere and it certainly lived up to the hype. This is one of the best date night atmospheres I've enjoyed in St. Louis. For cocktails, we had the 2666 and the Gravity's rainbow. Presentation and taste were excellent. We started off with 4 small plates because every item on the menu sounded stellar. To begin on a high note - the wild mushrooms dish and prosciutto and melon dish were some of the most dynamic, fresh and flavorful appetizers I've had. The balance of elements on both dishes were incredible. Couldn't recommend either of these more. The mushroom ginger dumplings however were so one note in comparison, needed a crunch to add texture but the dipping sauce was a good complement. The focaccia was just a miss. Just overly rich - the description says grapes as an element and only 2 halves of a grape were in the whole order - this dish would have been great to have a lot of grapes for acidity to cut through the rich, thick goat cheese. For entrees, the Cacio e Pepe and butcher steak entrees were both very good. The gnudi on the butcher steak was delicious! It honestly led to a poor end of the night for us. However, he never checked on us after getting our food - we were done eating for half an hour before I was finally able to get him to ask for boxes and about dessert. He dropped off the dessert menu and disappeared again until I gave up 10 minutes later and asked another server to find him to get us the bill. After he took our card he came back and awkwardly said he forgot to get a dessert order and asked if we wanted anything. I told him we were good to go for the night. Took my bestie friend to brunch here for her birthday and everything was wonderful! Our server, Jenny, was as kind and attentive as they come and made my best friend feel special and celebrated. She went above and beyond and even brought her a cupcake and candle. So sweet! I ordered the sweet potato hash and my best friend got the b.e.l.t. which came with smashed roasted potatoes. Gave us recommendations on what's popular and his personal favorites, which I always appreciate. The decor was stunning. Such a beautiful place. The food was hit and miss. I felt the Kale Caesar did not meet expectations. The noodles were well made in the Langostino and Shrimp Scampi but overall was not exciting. I recommend the Mushroom Ginger Dumplings and the Halibut. Our waiter also surprised us with a cinnamon donut like dessert for my fathers birthday which we were grateful for. My main complaint about this place was the slow service. It took us about over 4 hours from being sat to the tab being paid. And it wasn't because we were sitting around enjoying beverages. There was not enough staff to accommodate the amount of tables that were there. The servers also did not appear to be in any sort of rush. By the end of the dinner I was ready to get out of there! I do recommend making a reservation because this place does get busy and they were still keeping up with covid restrictions with their seating. read more
