I use too love this restaurant but walked out recently due to it being empty and smelling musty.

We went here and have mice running over our feet! as we ate dinner. It was repulsive, the waitress was standing and the mice were even running by her management didn't care and I shouldn't even have paid our bill since none of us could even finish our meals! Management was terrible at handling this issue. This actually happened awhile ago anyways went there for a birthday January 30th, I could dig up the receipt on my debit card. I've been here twice, both times sitting on the bar side. The service is extremely slow, and slightly rude. I was eating alone, no big deal. After about a half an hour the waitress came to take my order. First words out of her mouth, "ya flyin solo?" Uh...okay... most servers ask "Is anyone joining you?" It took almost an hour from when I sat down to when I actually got my meal, which was a simple chicken sandwich and a baked potato. The potato tasted like it had been made in a microwaveable pouch. Some parts of it were warm, other parts cool, absolutely no seasoning. It had an odd refrigerated taste to it. So many other options just in Beverly, I definitely won't be back. I'm sorry to say that my experience at the Beverly Depot has taken a 100% turnaround. I decided to go in for the state for two again since I enjoyed it the first time was it a fluke I don't know. All I know is this time around the sides came out I waited about three minutes before the steak came out instead of carving steak tableside it came out on a metal platter already sliced and sizzling like it was cut then reheated in a microwave. All I know the ends were almost burnt the middle was medium well and the ends were well prior to ordering we asked what medium rare is and what medium as it was described as hot pink center would be medium I'm a medium rare guy all the way but my friend wanted medium it was described as a hot pink center the hot pink said that was pretty much nonexistent except for a couple pieces the pan drippings upset my stomach like it was more fat than anything I was very disappointed this time around. Unfortunately because of the condition of my steak I'm gonna have to move everything down to two stars I will say that my waitress was very nice I would give her a five star rating as far as the salad bar the lettuce was all watery the mushroom container was empty the blue cheese container was empty I had to go to the other side it just left a sour taste in my mouth it's very unfortunate because the first time I was there I really enjoyed myself I guess this place is a 50-50 shot but I'll go with the two star rating for now. read more

The Depot is an old style steakhouse. You know, the ones with a salad bar and sides like steamed vegetable medley and rice pilaf. It's the kind of place you want to take your grandparents to. It's ok food, and affordably so. Atmosphere is the inside of a train depot - nice bones, but dark and a tad loud. I found this place by accident on a business trip. from the moment we sat down our server Michelle was wonderful. The food came out in order and at the perfect pace. our seafood sampler appetizer was delicious and the French onion was on point. the prime rib was mouth watering perfect rare as I ordered. we topped off our meal with coffee and dessert. the cheesecake was very good and the chocolate cake was INCREDIBLY delicious. this place was a 10 out of ten. I really love Beverly Depot. It's been my go-to special occasion place forever. Steak au Poivre, Surf and Turf, and of course their wonderful salad bar. Ordinarily I would give them an "excellent" rating, but there was just one sorry day where the service was definitely not up to par, it was a Sunday night and I felt that we were treated like a bother. I might add that I don't want to do anything but spread the love, but since that bad experience I've been wary. Luckily, they have redeemed themselves in my eyes and have returned to the over the top great food and attentive service. Birthday, anniversary, graduation? Yes, I recommend the Depot highly and I will continue to go there for my special dinner nights. read more

Recently had dinner. The hostess was very friendly. Wish I could same about our waitress. Asked her a question on the dinner menu and received a very rude reply. After we enjoyed dinner and the salad bar, we decided to get another round of drinks and a dessert. Unfortunately, the waitress decided it was time for us and left the bill on the table. We were surprised and mentioned we were going to order again. We decided not to and asked for dessert to go. Unfortunately, I was given the wrong cheesecake, which I didn't discover until I arrived home. Took a bite of the regular cheesecake and immediately threw it away. I called the restaurant and explained my disappointment (think of when you are biting into a chocolate chip cookie but only to discover its raisins!). The woman I spoke to said the owner was out and would be returning in 39 minutes and would return my phone call. Obviously, the owner doesn't care that his staff isn't considerate enough to inquire if customers want dessert and then give them the wrong item. It was a waste of $10. So, if you order a dessert to go, please open the container to ensure that you were given what you actually ordered. Good luck!! read more

So full disclosure I'm a sucker for a good salad bar. Their salad bar was fresh and well stocked but would have like a few more options up there. Fresh bread and cheese is a nice touch. We went with a party of 12 and all enjoyed their food. I got the NY sirloin and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare and very tasty. Staff were nice and service was great. read more

This place is always hit or miss. My parents enjoy going here, so I tend to go and while the portions are plentiful and absolutely delicious, service is lackluster. The waitstaff all have great attitudes but the service is slow and there were several times we had to ask for drinks that didn't come after ordering. Their salad bar is a good option but for some reason, the ingredients didn't look as fresh as I'd hope. They also didn't have a lot to choose from. All-in-all, I do love that this restaurant is situated in such a beautiful historic building but think they could use a few improvements overall to get to where they could be. read more

We went for our 34th anniversary and we have been eating here on and off for 34 or so years. We love sitting at a window watching the trains come and go. I had the prime rib and my wife had the steak au poivre. Both dishes were excellent as was the baked potato I had. The salad bar is back and was great as was the bread bar. It was a very enjoyable evening which ended with a nice brownie sundae and a piece of strawberry cheesecake. Can't wait for the next reason to celebrate. read more

We had our rehearsal dinner here last night and I was so impressed with the beautiful space they had for us down in the basement! We had about 34 people and the half of the basement they reserved for us was perfect. Right next to a beautiful fireplace and mantle with roaring fire, perfect for a chilly October evening! Everything we had planned with Mirinda the coordinator was exactly as we wished! The drink selection is excellent, the salad bar fresh with lots of options, and the food was delicious! This is the perfect spot for a function especially in fall/winter-- because of that fireplace. Finally I have to add a shoutout to our amazing lead server Courtney. She kept everything running smoothly even though they seemed a bit understaffed. You could hardly tell because of all her hard work!! Thank you Courtney!!! read more

It was like a microwave meal. So, we paid 25.96 a head for the Turkey Dinner. I have had better meals from the frozen food isle. The drinks were meh. The only reason I did not complain was my sister held me back. Complete waste or money. Complete shite. Will call them tomorrow and try to cancel on the card. We recently dined at the Beverly Depot, and we hadn't been there since covid hit. Although I missed the incredible salad bar, my sirloin meal, the skinny margarita, and the service was all excellent. The past couple of months as we've safely ventured out again, we've dined at numerous places, and we would say that The Beverly Depot offered a much needed relaxing, wonderful dining experience. I love this place but they have the worst chicken Marsala I've ever had, a huge chunk of obviously frozen fried chicken with 3 mushrooms and a drizzle of sauce. If I could give negative stars I would. Started off well then went downhill rapidly. Pretty certain what I got was a sirloin not the rib eye I'd ordered. When I asked the waitress if this was a mistake she said "no it has the blue cheese butter on it.". Apparently I offended the waitress because we sat for quite some time after finishing our meals. Getting the check took forever. And to top it off we eventually went to the front to pay. When I asked if there was a manager to speak with the young lady said"why?" , I Mentioned the questioning the cut of meat, and waiting so long. She asked if I mentioned this to the waitress and said yes. Well a "sorry" and "I'll mention it to the waitstaff." Doesn't really do much to take care of the situation. Visited with friends Wednesday evening. Everything was excellent. Our food and the terrific, knowledgable service was some of the best we have had lately. We started with drinks in the bar and had the seafood sampler, which was easy to share. We then went into the dining room and were seated near the fireplace. It is very cozy in there and the train stops right out front. Cool ambiance. We had prime rib, filet and two of us had scallops. We each had different sides. We all thought our meals were cooked to perfection and perfectly seasoned. The wonderful fresh salad bar with bread and cheese is a rare thing today. That's such and added bonus. For dessert we had apple crisp and key lime pie. We split them 4 ways. I'm a dessert freak so I could have had more, even though they were quite large portions. Definitely will be going again. Beverly depot used to be amazing, it used to be the type of place you go to celebrate or go on date night, it used to be a step above chain restaurants. We went last night and normally go twice a year, we also enjoy going to the sister restaurant "the hard cover" in Danvers. The last couple of times at the depot we just figured it was a bad day but last night it was clear that they're not even trying anymore. The salad bar lettuce was soaked, and I mean sitting in water, you had to used the tongs and shake all the water off to put it on your plate. Everything else on the salad bar was fresh and looked good. Four of us never got a second drink until we physically got out of our seats and tracked down the waiter. All of our drinks were empty before our food came and we went the entire time without more to drink. Everyone's food was mediocre two of us got the chicken Florentine and they were very dry. We all got desert as we were celebrating an occasion I had the brownie Sunday which was literally the worst brownie Sunday that I've ever had, very dry and the hot fudge was clearly burnt and tasted horrible. Two others had the fried ice cream and had the same complaints. The only desert that got the thumbs up was the turtle cheesecake. The depot comes with a certain decor and vintage feel, upstairs had a cool bustling feel. However we sat downstairs. The chairs are wildly uncomfortable and the tables are insulting. There's a difference between a vintage look and a table that no one has paid attention to in 15 years. The tables and chairs literally are so beat up that I think the local Elks or knights of Columbus has better looking and feeling furniture. Again we used to love the depot, we still have about $200 in gift cards as we normally ask for them for Christmas but it looks like we'll be giving those as gifts to other people or just hanging out at the hard cover in Danvers. In fairness we have not sat in the bar in a very long time (years) maybe the bar is better? It kills me to say this because I go out of my way to support local businesses but you'd have a better experience at outback or Texas Roadhouse. Incase you're wondering we still tipped 25% because we've also worked the service industry. read more

Our server was horrible. Took our order, and we had no contact with her for another 30 minutes. Let us sit with empty drinks. After 30 minutes I went to the hostess stand to ask if someone could just get our dinners to go. Our server was made aware of the situation, yet still didn't come over! 10 minutes later I went to the manager and asked for our food and the check. The server finally came over with the check, and told us they were boxing up our food. She ran my credit card and settled our tab. Still no food!!! The manager finally went and got our food. Not even an apology. When we were finally able to eat (hours later because we had plans), the food was good, but I would never go there again! read more

We went there to celebrate my sister in laws 50th birthday.There was twelve of us but the place was hardly filled at all(Wed. Eve.6:PM) The food was fair to mediocre but the place itself was dusty and sticky.The waitstaff were unhappy when you could find them. My family was very dissatisfied with the experience. We went to the Beverly Depot Restaurant for a Thanksgiving dinner their were 5 of us our reservation was for 3:15 P.M. we got there at 3:00 P.M. we actually got right in and was seated last year we had to wait an additional 20 minutes. the waitress took our orders for drinks 1 diet coke, 3 cokes, and 1 "drink" came back 10 minutes later we decided on 5 traditional dinners very simple ........20 minutes goes by 30 minutes goes by 40 minutes goes by were thinking were is our food? i tracked down one of the waiters who was working in our area along with the waitress i explained we have been waiting for 40 minutes for our food... the waiter came back and explained the cooks said they never got the "ticket" Ten minutes later we got our food but during the 40 minutes we waited they never once said would you like a refill on your cokes? i had to approach her to ask for 2 refills. The waiter said because we had to wait forty minutes for the food he would not charge for the drinks he also said we would not have to pay for desert ..... the tough part was you see people come into the restaurant after you then they order, eat and then leave and you haven't even got your meal yet! the place wasn't packed and you see the waiter and waitress leaning against a wall and just talking they knew we were a little upset about the situation and hungry either one of them could have come over to our table and said can we get anybody a refill? but never did.............. read more

If I ever doubted Yelp, I shall no more. These reviews are so very true when it comes to the Beverly Depot. Ambiance- 5 Star. High ceilings, brick walls, candlelit tables, train occasionally coming through. It feels warm and friendly, but sophisticated with a hint of soft classical music . Salad bar- 4 Star. Its nice, normal, fresh, and basic. Food-5 star. We were testing the place for a big party we are throwing. FRIED CALAMARI--crispy with a hint of spice. fresh. Very good. BEEF WELLINGTON---perfect. like something from "Hell's Kitchen" that chef wouldn't throw down. Cooked perfectly. presented very well. PRIME RIB (10 oz)---more than enough for anyone. No fat, cooked perfect and was surprisingly hot. CHICKEN OVER PASTA--cooked perfect al dente. Mushroom sauce that was rich, but light. Very good dish. CREME BRULEE- Was good, but do to the slow service, arrived cold and lifeless. Which brings me too... Service- 2 Star. We all enjoyed an amazing experience, constantly dampened by confusing wait staff changes, slow service, and distractions of other tables desperately looking for their wait staff. We tried and tried to like everything--hey we were paying 20+ an entree, 8 dollars for Merlot...come on we worked hard for our money. In the end it ruined our experience. Couldn't figure who really was our waiter, and a group consensus that SERVICE IS EVERYTHING. We shouldn't have to work so hard to spend our money. Can I cook Beef Wellington? Nope, but its not worth another trip back because I want to feel the seamless experience of dining out. My wife and I recently moved into Beverly. Before we could find our packed-pots and pans I decided to give the Depot restaurant a try for take-out. I called and placed an order for an appetizer and an entree. When I got the order home the appetizer was just OK (calamari) but the entree (beef wellington) was tiny and tough as nails. I called and was told they were confused and gave me two appetizers. The staff member who took my complaint told me they would notify the manager and he/she would get back to me. They never did and I will never go their again. Since my wife and I are "foodies" they messed up on this one and have lost out some potentially good customers. read more

Great ambience with high ceilings, painted windows, and the commuter rail running outside. We enjoyed the farm fresh salad bar with yummy cheese and bread. Mixed reviews for the Cajun chicken over pasta though since the portion of meat was dainty. One of our steaks was cooked medium well when medium rare was preferred. The service was very friendly but confusing at times because you are assigned multiple wait staff throughout your meal. What a mistake going to the Depot. I remember when this place had really good food, really good service and was well taken care of. Not anymore. Everything is bad, service especially, but food is almost as bad, and the building is in bad shape as well. The building is really cold, especially the bathrooms, the server disappeared after taking our order, food took forever to come out and what came out is not good. The worst prime rib and baked stuff shrimp I've every tasted and none of the meals that the 5 of had was better than avg. It took 2 hours from being seated to finally getting the bill. Atmosphere was nice only because of the old building with high ceilings. Bit too noisy, though. Salad bar which I was told was exceptional was a bit skimpy. The wheat bread was a bit on the burned side. Blue cheese dressing was watery, though pleased with the good amount of blue cheese chunks in it. The main course: we both ordered a 16 ounce prime rib. So, why when they come out does mine look abundantly larger and more like a roast than a prime rib? My wife;'s smaller 16 ounce looked and tasted more like it should, mine was too thick and tasted more like a pot roast than a prime rib. Wait staff was fine, though they should explain the original waiter is for seating, taking drink and food orders and then they hand off to another. Service, though, was okay and steady. In short, for $29 that prime rib should have been stupendous, it was just average at best. Most of the selections on the menu are way overpriced. Interesting location: it is located inside the former B&M passenger station on the still-active MBTA Commuter Rail line from North Station (thus, The Depot is easily accessible). Dinner only establishment! Curious and unique ambiance. Still, it is pretentious and a bit pricey for what one gets. Salad bar is appealing, but not super special [the one at Victoria Station has far better/wider variety]. The wait staff is uneven it its abilities/professionalism. After placing one's order, the wait time can be too long. Main restaurant can b e quite noisy; room can be drafty or too hot--depending upon where one is seated. Food is uneven in its quality; well-done ends to be medium+. Do not order baked potatoes: often they are rubbery/cool. Portions are average-sized. Fish items vary in the quality of preparation. Indeed, most desserts are good but expensive (considering the cost of the ingredients and what one receives). Attached bar [also serving pub grub] is a nice asset. One used to get a free meal at The Depot on one's birthday; even this tradition has faded. Bathrooms are so cold you will need a fur coat, and hat - gloves just to go pee; extremely off-putting an uncomfortable. They don't have butter chips at the salad bar: which they have bread you can slice... I was like what am I going to do with plain bread? My worst complaint is the waitress .... The Depot leaves me a little disappointed. I feel like this place isn't as good as it used to be a few years ago. The menu may seem classic to some. To others the menu will seem out dated. The old fashioned interior and decoration is truly charming and endearing. But an old fashioned menu is unappealing. They specialize in steak, yet they can't always get it right. Something about this restaurant feels special however. The location is cool. Many families come here for special occasions. The salad bar is the best salad bar I've ever seen. read more
