Picked up my bike this past Tuesday and it was done in fine fashion. Major tune-up, new chain, and overall servicing was great ! More importantly when I brought it in the previous Wednesday the week before they SAID it would be done today and it was !! This was very important to me cause my "prior" experience bringing in a bike to an "outdoor" converted bike catering truck parked at a street in Venice did not bode well when I was told 3 different times the bike would be "ready" and NEVER was !! I recently went to The Bicycle Workshop when my chain came off my beach cruiser and the bike needed adjusting so that the problem would not happen again. The gentleman who helped me---I assume he was the owner--was very nice, competent and obviously very knowledgeable about bicycles. (He also pointed out that my tires were not fully inflated and of course remedied that problem as well.) He definitely knew what he was doing. I will be coming back. I had a great experience getting my mountain bike serviced. The bike is 15 years old and spent the last 3 years collecting dust - and had never gotten a tune up before - so I did the full $140 tune up where they take it apart, clean the parts, grease them, put it back together and make adjustments. I got my bike back the same day, it rides like it's brand new and is gleaming clean. Super smooth ride, smooth gear change and tight responsive breaks. Seems like a real honest shop too. I asked if a bunch of things needed to be replaced like the chain, cables and tires, and he assured me they're all fine, plus provided some advice on how to keep them greased and healthy. I called back the next day with a question and he was really thorough and patient in his response. I'm so glad I took my bike here and would come back again. read more

I received a tuneup on my bike and when I picked it up, my pedals were bent as if someone put a hammer to them! They changed the pedals (to kid pedals) and I took my bike. Fast forward to a month later, I'm on a long bike ride and my crank pops off!!! Had to get picked up and immediately brought it to the Bicycle Workshop and they "fixed" the problem. The next ride, about a week later, my buddy and I went on a night ride and what happens? Same crank pops off and I'm even further away from home! I went in for new brake pads on a 9 year old bike that was dependable but nothing special. Basically my bike felt like a Toyota Corolla. I have no idea what happened while they were fixing it, but it came out feeling like I had upgraded to a BMV, and all of a sudden I can keep up with my husband for the first time ever. I'm never taking my bike anywhere else. Wow. As an aside- the owner noticed my toddler had a runny nose when I first went in and when I went back to pick up my bike asked how his cold was... the customer service was on point. read more

Went here cause i like to stay local. 21.95 Each front then back to adjust brakes so with tax like 50 bucks and a 2 day wait period for work. It is one screw... Checked out bike accessories and its about double what you would pay on Amazon. Not rude but not really friendly like they used to be, as i have found most bike shops since covid. read more

Words cannot express how pleased I am with the work Victor has done on my bike. This bike has seen it all, the beach, the desert (burning man), mountains. It's been put through the wringer. The frame also has a 'custom zebra print' (brother-in-law skilfully wrapped zebra duct tape around the frame to perfection) we all love this bike, we call it Zebra bike. Victor took Zebra bike from looking like a hap-hazard sad bike that had seen better days to a brand spanking new bike (retaining its zebra coat) while ensuring that the bike was tuned up to perfection. Even my brother-in-law (original owner) is blown away by the work. Absolutely I will recommend that you bring your bike to Victor. I have been going here for the last few years while living in Santa Monica. My wife and I have 4 bikes and we have had a wide range of repairs needed over the years. Today we went in and met with Jorge and he took the time to show me how to detect a tire leak and also showed me how to change it. Now, in all honesty I am probably not going to change a tube myself ever but it was very cool to learn how to do so. This is just a cool little example of what a great shop this is. This may sound silly, but if you've seen Alan Arkin's "Peevy" in the fantasy adventure "Rocketeer" you'll recognize Victor. He's an old-school bicycle mechanic who knows what works and what does not. Years ago I wrecked my Custom-featured 1988 Holland and brought it to him to be reassembled following crash repairs. The reason that's four stars instead of five is that he did not notice (I guess I should have mentioned it.) that one of the custom features was a reversed rear brake bridge, which puts the caliper on the front of the seat stays, That protects it from the grit that the rear tire throws up, and puts the adjusters for both brakes on the right side (along with the cable stops - see below), so you don't have to turn the bike around on the work stand to adjust the brakes. Anyway, the first shot at assembly had the rear brake cable housing crossing around the seat post from the top tube cable stop, in order to reach the attachment on the left side, because he'd mounted the caliper on the back side if the seat stays. But that did not stop me from returning to him when I had my last (I hope) crash. For one thing he wanted about half what Helen's quoted, and besides, he was familiar with the bike. My confidence was confirmed when I walked in and saw he had a bike on a stand clamped by the seat post rather than the frame. Joe Bell (see my review) warned me against idiots like the one in Seattle who'd clamped a tandem frame he'd painted, on the top tube, and crimped it. This time the assembly went smoothly and quickly, finishing ahead of schedule. Adjustments since (cables stretch) were free, and now the bike runs perfectly, tracks true and elicits admiring comments from my cycling buds. read more

The people at Helen's put my Cannondale together wrong, I took it back to them 3 times because it didn't shift properly. They basically told me to go pound sand. I took it to Victor and he fixed it in 5 minutes, it had the wrong size chain. 20 years and many Bicycle Workshop tune ups later, I gave the Cannondale to a deserving friend, it still runs like new thanks to Victor. Of course, I bought my new Raliegh bike from Bicycle Workshop, Victor has a great deal on 27 speed hybrid mountain bikes right now (upright), and of course he sells a ton of recumbent bikes. He's a neighborhood institution, many people rely on him for fast, friendly service at extremely fair prices. read more

I read the previous reviews of this shop and took my bike in today for a flat repair. The shop owner was there. He was very polite and fixed my flat in 25 minutes. He also notice that my handlebars were loose so he tightened them up (at no charge!) I purchased some polish for my new "used" bike and left the store with spending a total of $26. This is our neighborhood bike shop, and I feel really lucky to have a bike shop in our neighborhood! It is a rare breed - an independent bike shop, the kind of place where they know your kids and fix their flats. The guys that work here are always friendly, and more importantly, it isn't Bike Attack (talk about expensive and condescending!) It is filled with recumbent bikes (which I know nothing about), and I hear the owner is the best bike fitter in town. But for my purposes - tune ups, flats, economical repairs - it's just right. I would be sad to see this place go, and I always encourage my kids to go here first when they need something. The kind of place worth supporting, if it fits your needs. read more

Undoubtedly the best repair shop I have come across. Been there twice with serious problems. First time after I did an endo on my bike, I took it to REI and they told me it would cost $500 to replace the front Ultegra shifter. Took it to Jeff at the Workshop and he took the whole thing apart and rebuilt it. Cost $125 and worked better than new. Recently I had problems with the rear derailleur...it was a Sunday so I took it to REI.... Patience got the better of me and on Tuesday morning, back to Jeff I went. 48 hours later and I riding my beautifully rebuilt and cleaned derailleur. The best around Santa Monica. After riding around town trying to get my tire fixed to no luck from any surrounding bike shops, I stumbled onto this guy. (Well I saw him on Yelp) but as I went in, he was nice, genuine and friendly and fixed my bike right there with me in about 10 minutes. The other shops around town were kind of assholes. They didn't even look at my bike, just assumed they couldn't fix it. Weird. Anyway, I highly recommend this guy. read more

1-13-10 I just got back from this bike shop. Mine is an "antique" Schwinn ladies bike. It has a "hub" shifting device which stopped working. I left it there. Victor said it would cost $35 to fix it and he couldn't guarantee if he could fix it because a broken part can't be ordered anymore. He was very nice and I'm to call him tomorrow. It all sounded very kosher. I'll report tomorrow whether he could fix the hub. 12-6-11 Forgot to report back. It worked for awhile only, so it's not really a 5 star. read more

Vic has fixed bent forks for me-- 2x-- as good as new. Vic is super knowledgeable, and his prices are reasonable. He is a long time master of the craft. Other shops refer difficult issues (like mine) to him. If Vic can't fix it, it can't be fixed. Rear lot parking is limited. read more

Good guy. He lit up when he saw my 1982 Medici and told me that he used to build those bikes back in the early 1980's. I needed a new front derailleur cable (mine snapped) and I had him do a tune up while he replaced the cable. He went above and beyond the tune up and cleaned and serviced my rear sprocket which was becoming unsafe. He even tightened one of my bar end grips that has been loose for almost a year and I've been too lazy to tighten it. Most mechanics would not have even found that loose grip unless they grabbed it while riding. He's the real deal old school bike mechanic. Bike is much better then when I had it last serviced by a shop in Culver City. read more

i was down the street for the wife's dr.appt and had my destroyed bike tire in the car, so stopped in. old school shop with somebody around my age (i'm 57) who obviously knows his stuff and keeps a great shop. The tire was repaired so fast that we had some time to chat about the repair biz (i do home repairs), Yelp, and how a bad employee choice or two can ruin your day, month or year. If you read the reviews here, be advised the employee earning the low stars is no longer employed there. Stop in and see for yourself....... Needed to get a new tire because I had a flat. We've had frustrating experiences with very long lines at other bike repair shops in Santa Monica. It was great when we called him they told us that we could get the repair same day. It took about half an hour and was super convenient. Definitely a place I would go back to and recommend to others.
