Oh my goodness gracious this place. This is what food is supposed to taste like. The ought to have Michelin stars if they don't already. The flavor combinations and nuance of tastes put together are a delight to the senses. I am never disappointed here. Incredible gluten free options (pizza!!) and locally sourced fresh ingredients from farmers and fishers. Highly recommend. Really lovely people too. Very friendly. Nice small place too so it's quite intimate. Outdoor highly heated with a roof so no rain risk. Small indoor area seating with lovely live edge bar. Terrible business for walk in guests even with an empty restaurant. The bigger blonde lady at the register was terribly rude because we "didn't call before we came in" . She wasn't friendly and made us feel like we would never ever again want to step into this establishment again. We drove to Port Townsend after and had a wonderful dinner at the Silverwater Cafe and had a completely different experience. First of all we had patio seating but our dog was not allowed and the heater was mostly in the tent area. My fish and Chips was more like small oily fish nuggets, the French fries were so thin cut they were burnt, had to send it back. The ceasar salad was small portion and not the best. Waitress was polite and service was great, local beer was good.. Overall not a great experience food wise, they can improve learn to make better fish and chips. read more

Since we were in town over a holiday weekend, we were thankful we made a reservation because it was busy. The service was friendly and pretty prompt throughout our meal. We started with the special salad, which was fresh and flavorful -- a great way to kick things off. Then we had the four-cheese pizza with pepperoni, and it was absolutely delicious! The seasoning was just right, and we enjoyed every bite. To finish, we had the Chocolate Bliss for dessert. Was traveling and driving from Olympic Park and were amazed by the pizza - it was one of the best pizzas we've ever eaten. We could taste the quality in ingredients and especially appreciate the organic and local support they give to farms, it means a lot. Customer service and food quality outstanding! Found this wonderful bistro using Yelp! Finished riding the Olympic Discovery Trail and was hungry. Website reservations recommended...earliest reservation was 7:30 pm. It was 5:15 pm and we were hungry. Called the yesterday, they had seating on their outdoor heated patio...we gave them our name and drove right over. I understand the requirement for a reservation it's a small venue that looks like it was once a house. We were seated on the patio, over our table was a heater, it was turned on for us and our chairs had blankets as well. The outdoor spot was warm and cozy. We ordered our drinks and truffle fries for an appetizer. Found that the menu had unique vegetarian options. We ordered them...panell tower and wood fired veggie frittata "lasagna"...both dishes were delicious!! The frittata was beets coated in a batter. Between the two beet frittata was tomato sauce , cheese and an array of seasonal veggies. Have never had anything like it...wow! Flavorful and beautifully presented. Because it was my birthday we ordered the cheese cake, can't remember the flavor, we enjoyed it, every last drop. After eating here , I envied the local community, what a wonderful neighborhood bistro. Our server was friendly, attentive...perfect amount of customer oversight. Found this place on the internet, and it did not disappoint. We were welcomed by an amazing, professional and friendly staff. While reservations are recommended, they were able to accommodate our party of 5 with about a 15-minute wait. We were seated in these beautiful, cozy outdoor seating area surrounded by a lovely flower garden and fire stands to keep us warm. They also provided these cozy lap blankets, if necessary. Once seated, our waitress, Libby, was quick to respond with a carafe of lemon water, menus and review of the day's specials. She knew our group hasn't seen one another in over 10 years, so she was patient with us in catching up while perusing the menu. They offered a plethora of vegan and vegetarian options (something that has been difficult for me to find since being in the Olympic Peninsula). We ordered a Root vegetable Fritter for appetizers (sorry, forgot to take a picture). It was superb and crunchy. For entrees, we ordered the King Salmon (special of the night), Veggie Fritter 'lasagna', Panelle Tower (chickpea polenta), and vegan herbivore pizza. It was absolutely amazing in everything we tried. Can't even describe but worth every bite. We finished up the night with some desserts: raspberry sorbet, a lemon pie (to die for), and a dark chocolate ganache dessert with vanilla bean ice cream. This night was a fabulous way to reconnect with old friends while wrapping up a week-long trek through the Olympic National Park. Thank you, Libby, for helping make tonight's night a great one. Alder Wood is easily the best restaurant in Sequim. The food is consistently fantastic and in the summer, you had best reserve your table in advance, because they get too busy for walk ins. Nourish is often cited as the go to "farm to table" and while they grow many ingredients and have a great drink menu, Alder Wood handles the ingredients with so much more finesse. I don't normally compare, except at these price points, it's important to call out that to me, Alder Wood is great value compared to Nourish. The specials are great go to's. Their calamari is so lightly fried with delicious aioli. I love their carrot cake with the goat cheese frosting. To top it off, the service is so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I was recently out one night in Seattle and mentioned that I was going to Sequim that week. Someone said, " Go to Alder Wood Bistro," so I did with my eight-year-old son. It was the middle of vacation week from school and we didn't have a reservation. The staff was so incredibly kind and sat us out on their heated patio. We had a blast--delicious food and great service. I took my son back up to Sequim this weekend and made it a point to go back. Again, the food and the staff were top-notch! I am from the New York area and I'm very particular about pizza. This place is a gem. The food is exceptional, the staff is personable, and the atmosphere is excellent ... It doesn't matter if you have a little kid or if you're out on a date, it just has a great vibe! Was in the mood for good wood fired pizza and this place did not disappoint! Came by right when they opened and ordered the mushroom and white sauce pizza. It had caramelized onions and was delicious. Also tried a special of the day pizza. It had a red sauce and a bunch of unique toppings (including kimchi) and it was good too! It had purple potatoes on it and that is the only ingredient I would have skipped. Crust was perfect and the pizzas were cooked to perfection as well. We had a reservation, we showed up for said reservation 10 minutes early and the staff seemed put out by that. We waited and watched 3 additional parties come in right after us with reservations. Due to the lukewarm reception and the menu items were some of the same things we had tried 20 years ago (people must love their meatloaf; I was not a fan) when I lived in Sequim, we opted to leave. The hostess thanked us as we exited. People always rave about Alder Wood but I have found it to be mediocre and overpriced at every visit. Went with friends on Thursday night. We had a reservation and were seating promptly upon arrival. Mussels and calamari were great appetizers. The server suggested the special Italian wine and it was very nice. My friend's wife was gluten intolerant and had no trouble eating the appetizers or choosing a beef dish for her main. Between the four of us at the table there was a halibut dish and three beef dishes. All of which were said to be very good to great. It was our second trip to the Bistro and both were equally good. I can't even begin to state how great this restaurant is. We are local residents and It was our first time to visit last night with a couple of friends. We are vegan and we're very pleased with the unique flavor of our herbivore pizza. A dish that sounded delicious couldn't be modified to vegan so our incredible server, Libby, suggested asking Gabriel, the chef, if he could make a 'Panelle Tower' (not on the menu' which I had no idea what that would be but I wholeheartedly agreed! So good!) Bottom line this restaurant is way more than we expected and encourage everyone to go see for themselves. Very high points for the vegan friendly options! I really wanted to like this place. But sadly I am giving it two stars. I got the Sicilian pizza, and my fiancé got the chicken and spinach gnocchi. The pizza was extremely greasy, and very salty. I did like the thin crust of it but it was too greasy and salty I couldn't finish it. I'm not sure how some of these reviews on here are saying it's the best pizza they have ever had. My fiancé got the gnocchi and same thing. It tasted like the spinach and sauce were all tossed in oil. Chicken on it was good, but that was about it. I enjoyed their baby back ribs and rabbit ragu. The ribs were well sauced and the vegetables served with it went nicely together. I don't adore lots of basil or cilantro, so I moved some of it aside, but was an otherwise delicious appy. The ragu was flavorful but didn't hide the rabbit flavor behind sauces. The roasted asparagus paired nicely with the rabbit, the asparagus crema was a rich addition that added depth. I loved the color of the radishes! Alder Wood Bistro is a hidden gem off of the beaten Main Street of Sequim. The menu offered an excellent selection of mouth watering dishes. Every dish we ordered arrived hot with beautiful presentation. Waitstaff was perfectly attentive and friendly making us feel welcome. We were a party of seven and sat on the patio under the grape arbor. A perfect place to end the day after wandering through the lavender farms. The calamari is some of the absolute best I've ever had, the cocktails are always fresh and delicious, and there's such creative and delicious specials! We came here for dinner (had reservations) on a Thursday. We sat outside in the garden on a pleasantly warm evening. The garden is lush with all manner of flowers, vegetables, and a big grape vine. Shaded canopies and the grape vine are placed over the tables. Service was attentive, informative, and quite friendly. My wife and I both ordered the bacon wrapped beef/chorizo meatloaf with mushroom gravy and crispy onions on top of buttermilk mashed potatoes. Served with a side of fresh sautéed vegetables.
