I love restaurants that are really into BREAKFAST and this place is certainly one of them! Beautiful buildings with an organized waiting area. This place is popular and BUSY (don't come here if you are in a hurry). I was going to down score them for the interior dining area. It is one huge MASSIVE open area that they packed in tables with and just put these tiny "pony walls" to provide a little bit of privacy but I didn't. Just know this.....THIS PLACE IS LOUD. I just loved the food so much they had to be 5 stars! They have a full espresso bar. Menu options are plentiful and delicious. I ordered the Blueberry Lemon Cobbler French Toast and that was impressive. Good thing I LOVE whipped cream because it came with a lot of that! Fresh blueberries went well with the lemon curd and the "cobbler" twist really worked with the French toast. A lot of the food options are big enough to share. I would definitely come back!

First time at Birch Door. Pics in other reviews reminded us of another restaurant that we always enjoy, so we had to check it out. Everyone is super nice and eager to please. Really enjoyed the baked French Ham & Cheddar omelet. Plenty for us to split. They have excellent butter that enhances their already great pancakes. The pancakes were included with the omelet. Pretty proud of their biscuits but we thought ours was overcooked. We enjoyed eating the soft middle inside, but left the crusty outside. And we're not raspberry preserve folks. I love fresh raspberries but just can't do any other raspberry items. Tried the preserves but just not for me. Probably won't order the bacon again either. Good flavor but thick cut and hard to cut/chew. We'll be back!!

This place came up under "gluten free" but after seeing their menu, I am not totally sure why. Their egg dishes are gf, like at every restaurant, but they don't have any gf bread, pancakes, etc. I ordered the salmon scramble. Definitely fluffy and the salmon was good! The side of potatoes was pretty good, a little softer than I prefer, but good. The fruit platter was where I draw the line. It was like $8 for two slices of melon and a strawberry. Insane. I have no idea how they justify that and I was super bummed to see I had paid that much for like 20 cents worth of fruit. The staff is friendly, but almost frighteningly so. They all wear skirts down to the floor and no makeup. It feels like they are all in on some secret, but I can't quite figure it out.

Came in on a Thursday for late brunch, hadn't eaten all morning and was just looking for a close by place to stop. Glad I chose this spot! It was very cute, home town elevated diner vibe. It was quite loud in there, but I was by myself so didn't matter. It didn't seem to impede conversations at tables nearby either. The food was great! My bacon could have been a little crispier, but the French toast was perfect. Completely covered in powdered sugar, and cooked perfectly. 10/10 French toast! The peach mimosa was also good. Parking can be kind of tough here, it's a smaller lot but they do have a lower and upper lot, with the upper lot being bigger. I imagine on weekends, there's a wait bc the food is really good! Service was good, staff was friendly and attentive.

Very impressive menu! Lot to choose from. Expect a line any time after 8:30 am on a weekend. Food here is very good! And they give you a lot of it. Ambiance is Dutch themed which reminds me of my days in Amsterdam! Love it here.

Absolutely delicious! I had the corned beef hash with eggs, sourdough toast, and coffee, and everything was fantastic. The corned beef hash was packed with flavor, the eggs were cooked perfectly, and the sourdough was excellent. Great food, cozy atmosphere, and a perfect breakfast spot. Definitely a 5-star experience--I'll be back!

I went here around 11am on a Friday and there was surprisingly a 30 min wait for a party of 2. So I'd imagine longer wait times for the weekend. We only went here to try their famous apple pancakes which is a little pricy at $21+ but it was a very good, slightly custard-like texture for the fluff, not too sweet, which is great given this is an American breakfast spot. They do have apple cinnamon syrup on the side if you think it's not sweet enough, but we only tried it sparingly just to see how it is. We also got the honey lavender mimosa which was really good. It was more like a cocktail than a simple fruit mimosa, so that was good. Service is okay as water refills were available and they fulfill requests quickly. When we ordered the apple pancakes, they scared us saying it'll be an hour wait for it so we were like, sure let's do it, and it ended up being 20 min. I guess because we only wanted to order the apple pancakes, it's a huge loss of a table for them to make us wait the full hour for the next batch when they could seat other people ordering more food. To be fair, we weren't too hungry and were in a rush so it worked out in the end.

A friend recommended this place to me. The food is delicious and the servings are big! We had great service, our drinks were always full and the waitress was attentive. Definitely would come back if I'm out this way!

The birch door special, buttermilk pancakes with bacon and eggs

Wow! I loved everything about this place. The decor and ambiance welcomes you like grandmas kitchen. And the food is fresh and real! I was surprised at how big the menu is, and if I had the chance I'd try everything on it. The servers were kind ,friendly, and funny!

    Apple Pie Pancake

The apple pie pancake was amazing!! Our group of 8 got there right before closing. It was our last stop before driving to Seattle to catch our flight back home and so glad we did because the food was delicious! We almost didn't get to taste the apple pie pancake because the kitchen had already closed. But our waitress made it possible!!

A very memorable and cute spot! The inside is decorated like a cozy cabin. I went very early on a Sunday morning and lucked out because I heard it can get packed. The buttermilk pancakes are truly special and the mushroom gravy + biscuits was unique!

I will preface this by saying I have a sweet tooth and sometime you just want a chocolate chip pancake, ok? Ok great! It has been a minute since I was here and guys yes there is a wait and yes, it's long but this is such a fun splurge that you can deal with that, but also, you can order your coffee, boozy coffee or whatever you like at the counter and sip as you wait! Fun times my friends. The place is pretty much an upscale barn type building with you guessed it a great big birch door, lots of windows plenty of tables and very down to earth! Service is always on point here and true enough our server was very polite if a bit new but nothing to detract from our time. I ordered the chocolate chip pancake 5/5 and there was plenty to go home with me(6 very fluffy delicious pancakes) the hubby ordered an omelet 5/5 with a side of pancakes. Everything was delicious and  Viennese was an added bonus (YUM!)

    Cute restaurant!

Cute brunch stop on my trip from Seattle to Vancouver! We were seated immediately and the restaurant was definitely lively on a weekday around noon. The interior was super cute and unique. However, I felt that the service was slow and the servers were impersonal. Not sure if it was because of the busy restaurant, but I can only imagine what it's like on a weekend... Otherwise, the food was decent. My over medium eggs were cooked great but just needed a little more seasoning. My mom loved her strawberry blintz, which came with a generous amount of fresh strawberries. The florentine omelette was just okay and also could've used more seasoning. The 3 buttermilk pancakes that came with the omelette were my favorite part of the meal! They were pretty dense and chewy, which is how I like my pancakes.

    Are there any Kosher options?

There are certainly items that contain no pork, and items that could be parve, however, the kitchen isn't kosher so depending on your level of orthodoxy, that could be a disqualifier.

The dog wasn't allowed inside (obviously), so my wife sat at a table while I waited for food. She was told to leave because you must order before sitting. She walked around the block while we waited in line for 25 minutes. At the till they asked our party size (6) and said groups of six incur a 20% auto-gratuity. I said we were four separate groups and wanted to pay separately. They insisted we pay together with the auto-gratuity. Auto-gratuity is fine, but six is small for that, especially when they don't take table orders. You wait in line, they drop off food, yet you can't sit until everyone has ordered. As Canadians we'd sort payments later. They said "we're a small business," and the till worker gave far too much attitude for a take-out coffee shop with auto-gratuity and assigned seating. We finally agreed to pay together. They checked for an outside table. Two guys sat at a "for three or more" table with no one enforcing the rule. The worker returned and said no tables were available. I said we'd take it to go. We got our coffee and left feeling negative. Our friends also ordered to-go sandwiches, and were told it would be a 40 minute wait. While waiting they sat down. When it was ready the server held their food hostage until they stood up to leave (can't sit at a table for a to go order). Cute atmosphere, terrible everything else. Don't expect a pleasant experience.

We were seated promptly by a friendly hostess at a table in DT Fairhaven, and our server was the bartender. After being seated, we waited a long time without anyone taking our order. We eventually asked if we had a server and were told it was him, with no apology or explanation. We ordered drinks and food, but after more than 40 minutes, we noticed two tables seated after us had already been served, finished eating, and were leaving. At that point, we asked for the check and said we would not be staying. About 15 minutes later, the server returned with our food instead of the check. We declined the meal and sent it back. He then asked if we wanted it boxed to go, which we also declined. His reaction suggested frustration rather than understanding. We never got to try the food, so we can't comment on it. The service, however, was well below expectations given the restaurant's reputation. This was lunch on July 15, 2026. We may try The Black Cat again in the future, hoping this was just an off day.

I have been coming to this restaurant since I was a young boy, attending special family dinners or just going to get pizza after soccer practice. Now well into adulthood I still find myself coming here with my wife for an excellent dining experience, any time or day of the week. This week we decided to go in for brunch, and I couldn't think of a better place to spend a dreary Washington morning. When you walk into this cozy little restaurant the smells of fresh breads and fried potatoes invite you into an elevated breakfast experience. Our hostess sat us down at a table almost immediately with the same friendly smile and welcoming attitude that I have come to expect from the staff at the fork. After sitting down and sipping of fresh squeezed orange juice we ordered two of our favorite breakfast plates. Chicken Fried Steak, and Corned Beef Hash. The Corned Beef Hash consisted two poached eggs sitting on a heaping pile of shredded corned beef that was both crispy and tender. Typically this dish is served with peppers and onions, but on this trip my wife opted out and the chef was happy to oblige our request. I can say from prior experiences that the peppers and onions are a fantastic addition to this mix. I went with the Chicken fried steak. A classic breakfast that requires a large appetite to face on your own! The cube steak was breaded and fried with the traditional seasonings, then covered in a house made gravy that was so rich and flavorful I couldn't put my fork down. I ordered mine with over medium eggs that were cooked perfectly, something that other kitchens can rarely get right. If you are a fan of Chicken Fried Steak then you must try this one! Both of our plates came with a large portion of golden brown home fries, and a fluffy biscuit served with honey butter and a peach preserve. Our server was extremely nice and very attentive. Although the restaurant was fairly busy she made sure our every need was taken care of :) I once again left the fork feeling full, and extremely satisfied.
