The place is open and has an inviting atmosphere. But was overall underwhelming. The staff was friendly, although they were perhaps not as attentive as some of our favorite places (ie cups were empty and not refilled) but to be fair to them, it was pretty busy. While the bacon I had was delicious and the eggs were nice, the prices are outrageous for what we had. Nearly $60 for breakfast for two. I had bacon and eggs with toast and hashbrowns. Hubs had sausage and eggs with pancakes. How was that nearly $60 - no mimosas or any fancy drinks, black coffee and a soda. It is a pass for us next time. We went on a weekend and it was busy. Sat and waited for about 1/2 hour for a table. The service was top notch. Since it was the weekend, the menu was their breakfast menu. Excellent selection, hard to choose! I had the BLUEBERRY LEMON COBBLER FRENCH TOAST. Hand battered french toast rolled in house made oat cobbler (contains pecans and almonds) and topped with vibrant blueberries, scratch made lemon curd, and real whipped cream. Served with warm Birch Door blueberry syrup. My husband had the EGGS KORY. House-ground bacon and cheddar cheese folded into three scrambled eggs and set atop a toasted croissant. Finished with a ladle of mushroom sauce and served with three buttermilk pancakes. Nice open restaurant with big windows for natural light. TBD is a step into a calmer, pleasant time out in the forests. The decor is rustic & cabin / farming themed in a large communal type setting. I was pleasantly surprised - service, presentation & food quality were all on point. I tagged TBD in my cell & began wondering why I was only discovering this gem now!?! TBD opened 7 years ago & is located on Meridian St not far from Bellisfair Mall. TBD will be my new hot brunch spot every time I'm heading south. Our group was extremely happy with our meals. This was my favorite breakfast of the week! And we went to a lot of great breakfast spots! I got the lemon blueberry cobbler French toast. Wow! It's a perfect balance of flavors. The sharpness from the lemon curd and blueberry balances the sweetness of the French toast beautifully. The crunch from the oats gives a great textural layer, which is satisfying and delicious. The blueberry syrup was amazing. Everything tasted homemade/from scratch. I loved it! The restaurant itself was busy but not chaotic. They don't take reservations and it gets busy, so I recommend going on the early side. It has a nice, homey energy. What a great brunch place! We were worried about being turned away as we didn't arrive until 30 minutes before closing. To our surprise, we were seated right away and our food came within 15 minutes! I'm not sure if I would order the same dishes again, but I would be down to come back and try some other ones. Here's what we ordered: 1. freshly squeezed orange juice: 100% freshly squeezed in house 2. apple pancake: similar style to dutch baby pancake, this dish was fluffy and tasty. I did find the pancakes to be quite dense after a while so had to pack half of it for breakfast the next day. 3. My wife and I come here every opportunity we get. The food is simply amazing and the portion sizes are huge. Everything is super fresh, get the orange juice...it's fresh squeezed. The service is amazing. All the wait staff are super attentive and they modify a lot based on your desire or special need. We came to the Birch Door as a party of 8 on a busy Saturday morning. We had to wait 1.5 hours for a table, but that was due to the size of our group. We wish they did reservations! I ordered the Northwestern Benedict for me with a Pomegranate Mimosa. I love this Benedict-they nailed the hollandaise, and the smoked salmon that they use is delicious. The pomegranate mimosa was nice and tart too! This was a solid breakfast. We were there for a birthday, and they were nice enough to bring out a sundae for our friend. It was very sweet. This is the place to be for a wonderful breakfast/brunch experience. No it is not a typical diner, instead you get treated to a homely yet elevated experience for some really good food. Although the prices are a little on the higher end, there really is nothing to complain about. Service was top notch, I think I had maybe 8 cups of coffee and they wouldn't stop! 100% recommend the blueberry lemon French toast special. Great atmosphere, great service but prices are just way to high for breakfast. Went here several times over the years. However an omelette is now $20 with three average pancakes or potatoes. Pick any omlette and it's $20. With a cup of coffee we are talking $25 before tip. $30 for breakfast but too pricey honestly. For $30 you should get sausage or bacon included at a minimum. Side of bacon around $7. Honestly you can get same breakfast or better elsewhere. Was great now just more expensive than Seattle or even breakfast in New York! read more

Stopped by on a Saturday around 11AM, and we waited 50 minutes to be seated, which was less than the estimated wait time according to Google (2.5 hrs). This place was perfectly fine; the food was good but not memorable, and the staff (from hostess to wait staff) were friendly. We ordered a dutch baby, blueberry and lemon curd french toast, side of sausage, side of bacon, a glass of orange juice, and a coffee. The french toast was sweet with nothing to help balance it out, and the egg batter hadn't soaked through the bread so instead of a custard-y or creamy center, the center was just...bread. The dutch baby was fine. The sausage and bacon as a side were $7 and $8 respectively, and were perfectly fine, but not remarkable. The fresh squeezed orange was really good, and they will refill your coffee to your heart's content. The total came out to $80 (with tip), which felt high considering we didn't have any alcoholic beverages. The high price plus the long wait doesn't make this a place we want to visit regularly (or again, tbh). read more

For years I have read the rave reviews written by legions of happy diners. Today I decided I needed to check it for myself. Upon entering, I was struck by the decor and ambience. What an unusually nice and comfortable setting. Then came the nice warm greeting, accompanied by a cheerful, friendly smile. Quickly seated at a nice table for one, my server promptly appeared. Wow, another helping of "warm, cheerful, friendly" greeting. And, he thoughtfully brought the menu, water, napkins and the necessary tools. I ordered and then began looking around, enjoying the pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. This establishment does an exceptional job of creating a very comfortable and pleasing experience. The tables were thoughtfully placed a little farther apart than normally seen in restaurants. Nice touch. The wait people (and there were many) ALL were smiling and nicely joking with their customers. Even when they walked away, returning to the kitchen, they were smiling. I don't know, but it appeared to me that they all really enjoyed working here. In all, this meal was literally one of the most pleasant and satisfying dining experiences I have had in the last 10 years... really! I would, however, offer a few small suggestions: Syrup - The syrup quality should be upgraded. The presently syrup does not do justice, nor support the superior quality of the food (ie.. pancakes, etc) Presentation - This restaurant space is obviously the product of many hours of planning and design. The owners are aware of visual impact. I received my omelet. It looked great and was of a very generous size. But when it arrived, it was alone on a plain white plate. It looked delicious, but lonely, plain, desolate. The food is displayed on a plain white plate with NOTHING else. Many years ago, a fellow Yelper observed this same thing. He did such a fine job describing this, I will now offer his exact quote: "I do hope the owners take this to heart and try to make the food look like a came from a chef and not a cafeteria". Stopped here before heading to the airport and was greeted with a warm welcome. This restaurant makes you feel right at home and the food has a home taste to it. The portions are also really generous. I had the biscuit and gravy and it was massive. It came with a side of eggs any style as well. If i were only rating food, this review would be 5 stars. However, the experience with the service was terrible. We came on a weekend and were expecting a wait, the hostess told us the wait would be 30 minutes, no biggie! After we waited 45 minutes we checked on how much longer it might be. The hostess then said "only a few minutes, were working out the tables for a group of 6 now"...15 minutes later we checked again! The answer was the same. After more than an hour of waiting (when we were only told a 30 min wait)...we ended up being split up and seperated to finally be seated. It was absolutely ridiculous that they were not able to seat us together - and there were empty tables when we were finally seated - it made no sense! They clearly need better management of thier front of house operations. That said, the food was very good and came quickly and one of the servers (again we were split up and put on two different sides of the restaurant) was fantastic. Just expect to more than double the wait time you get when you arrive. read more

The birch door, what can I say. Their sister restaurant in Silverdale, Wa was one of my favorite, I'll be it pricey, places to have breakfast. So it's easy to want to like this place. The wait here is the same as there..... 45 min easily. The staff here is just as nice and accommodating. The decor is disappointing as it's not as magical as the Kitsap location. The front door is a BIG problem. It's crates suction and it impossible to open. Every person walking through it said something. So here is why it's rated less. The food is somehow not as good. I didn't mind paying ridiculous amounts for eggs and pancakes cause they were perfection every time. But not here. I felt like the fineness and flavor was likened to Shari's. I won't go back and wait 30 min for that. read more

I was charged to find the best breakfast/brunch in the Bellingham area since we were in the area. Yelp, as usual, didn't disappoint! The Birch Door offered a beautiful location, friendly staff, an incredible menu, and food that did not disappoint! I read some of the reviews, and we decided to order the famous Apple pancake. OMG!! ... it was still bubbling as it was delivered! It was as fabulous as I expected, and true to the reviews, a massive amount of food. We split it but it could easily serve 4-6 as a side dish! It came with an apple syrup - but that was not needed - it stands by itself - unapologetically! I did use a bit of raspberry jam on the top of my fork that was intended for my toast and loved the contrast! I also ordered the traditional breakfast... every thing in the plate was amazing. Perfectly cooked eggs, and the skillet potatoes were perfect! One of the best breakfasts I have ever had. I called back right after I left to ask for my servers name, and we think it was Mia. She was fantastic. Efficient, there when you needed her, great advice, and so pleasant to interact with. Everyone was fantastic from the hostess to the staff that kept the delicious coffee hot and full. I don't live here, but I'll be back! Birch Door cafe is such a great place to fuel up for breakfast or brunch for those in the area or those who are venturing out to Bellingham for a quick day of shopping across the border. It is hidden right along Meridian Street and quite unnoticeable to the unsuspecting eye. But this is the place to be especially during this holiday season. The restaurant has very warm holiday cabin like feel with stockings, a large Christmas tree and Christmas decorations all around. Their food were delicious and adds to that cozy feel. We chosed a sweet and savoury dish to share and absolutely loved both. I love Sunday Brunch and Birch Cafe doesn't disappoint. I ordered the enticing pancakes with bacon, if my mom was here she would get a slap; they're that yummy! Instead, I will recognize the chef that created the most magical , fluffy pancakes on earth. Service was excellent too.
