Water Street Oyster Bar is one of those places where the story is as much about what it used to be…read moreas what it is today. Growing up and into my twenties, this felt like one of the nicer restaurants in Corpus Christi. It had a more upscale atmosphere than most places around town, and the menu was extensive. It didn't matter what you ordered because it was all good. Some of my favorite memories are sitting at the oyster bar with my parents whenever friends or family came to town, eating freshly shucked oysters while everyone else enjoyed colorful cocktails. Those days feel like they're gone. The menu has been reduced to a single page and now looks a lot like what you'll find at just about any seafood restaurant along the Gulf Coast. The biggest issue isn't the quality. The food is still consistent, and the service has remained reliable. It just doesn't feel unique anymore. The sense that this was a special destination has faded, and that's the part I miss most. That said, the location is still great, the restaurant is always clean, and the bartenders continue to be one of its biggest strengths. They've always been knowledgeable, make excellent drinks, and add a lot to the experience. I genuinely hope this place finds some of the character that made it special years ago. I'll always have a soft spot for it because of the memories, and I'd love to see it become a destination again instead of just another seafood restaurant.

This is a beautiful bar. In the past, we have sat there and had fresh oysters and drinks.

We found the food to be acceptable, but very slow action out of the kitchen. My guess is they were shorthanded there, because many tables wee not occupied. Fortunately the bar must have been fully staffed, because the drinks came out post haste. Try the crab tower as appetizer, though it could serve as a light lunch too. The soft shell crab Po Boy was good, with two very large ones, but the sauce that came on the side left us wanting something different. We also had the Ahi salad and the fish taco. We waited about 30 minutes for a table, and fortunately grabbed some of the few places to wait sitting down.

I'm actually not sorry to leave a negative review, but this was one of the most disappointing…read moredining experiences we've had. Don't go unless you're prepared to wait FOREVER. We arrived around 8:00 p.m. and waited about 45 minutes to an hour just to be seated. Once we were finally seated, we ordered a dozen oysters, three waters, two cocktails, and mac and cheese for our daughter. The drinks finally came, but they were incredibly weak. The biggest disappointment was the mac and cheese--it tasted like plain boxed Kraft macaroni, which was shocking for a restaurant. We placed our dinner order and then waited another hour and 45 minutes without receiving any food. By this point, it was 10:30 p.m., and our daughter had already finished eating and was exhausted. Our waiter, Kalen, was actually very polite, energetic, and apologetic throughout the night. He kept checking in and apologizing for the kitchen delays, so I don't blame him, he could have had an upper hand- and gotten aggressive and made an impact on timing. Unfortunately, after waiting nearly 2 1/2 hours from the time we arrived, we still never received our meals. My husband had to go to the front twice to cancel our order because we finally gave up and left hungry. The waiter again was nice but he could have done more and the manager competed our water and our daughters Mac and cheese. When we walked out - she had the audacity to give us a sad face - maybe you should have thought about your feelings while trying to get our food. It was truly a disgusting and horrible experience. We understand restaurants get busy, but waiting that long without food or any meaningful communication is unacceptable. We won't be returning. Other tables were being sat after us and actually left while we were still waiting that had received their food and paid. Extremely disappointed and will NEVER GO BACK.

Portions are large. Careful when ordering. The tortillas were amazing. They run your orders out to you. It is an open breeze seated area. And the later in the day it's just hot air. We opted for a table for two. There was a few people in the restaurant, which is always a good sign. We got there closer to 11 o'clock although we want a breakfast tacos we just couldn't get there earlier. The one drawback is that they charge you one dollar per taco extra if you order a breakfast taco after breakfast time. There's really no rhyme or reason to do this. We started out the meal with chips and salsa. The only one problem with that was the amount of salt in the salsa almost inedible. We opted for three tacos each. I had a mix of chorizo and potato., bean and cheese, bacon, and beans . All breakfast tacos were served on flour tortillas, which were slightly more puffy than the average. We also ordered one Carne guisada taco. All in all the tacos were good. Probably not a place we would rush back to. All in price was 54.00 for 6 tacos , chips and salsa.

We thought to give them a try again. Bad Choice! My Wife ordered the Chicken Caldo! Not Good! The chicken looked like it was still somewhat raw, the carrots were not cooked but hard and so was the 1/2 Potato! We had to raise our hands and wave just to get "Wait" Staff attention! We sent it back and she got a "Kids" Chicken Crispy Taco plate ($7.50) with one taco. We had to flag down our Waiter again who appeared to be doing some cleaning behind the Counter. When he took our order there was no greeting no smiles and he appeared not happy that we were there! As a matter of fact all the "Wait" Staff seemed to not want to be there! Bad Vibe! My $3.50 Carne Guisada Taco was very small and was tasteless. It was suppose to come with Lettuce, Tomato and Onion but those three items never showed and neither did our Waiter. We felt lucky to get any service at all. In spite of it all we are always very good "Tippers" and finally got a smile from our Waiter after he realized we had given him a 33% tip. This was our second time there and not a pleasant one. Maybe it's better at night!? We're NOT Going back! We, in Good Conscience, cannot recommend this establishment!
